PLUMBING ALBURY

THE DIRECTORS

Welcome to the 2023 Easter edition of CDPG Newsletter!

What started out as a one-page internal communication and snapshot of our business over 20years ago has now become a 34-page newsletter with fantastic content which keeps us all updated on our progress across all CDPG entities. I’m thrilled to see the effort that not only Jacqui Besanko and her team put in, but from all of those who contribute to communicating our project updates, contracted and pipeline of work, and images which showcases our business across Australia and New Zealand.

In recent times, the unforgiving, and often challenging industry that we operate in has seen several established competing Plumbing companies’ demise, which unfortunately has a negative impact across the board. It is no secret that the construction industry faces a range of challenges, including rising material costs and a skilled labour shortage. We are pleased to report that our company has been performing well, thanks to the hard work and dedication of each one of our talented team. There is also significant opportunities for growth and innovation, as companies continue to adapt to changing trends and embrace new technologies, the industry is poised to continue evolving in exciting ways in the coming years.

We believe 2023- 2024 will see a greater focus on sustainability and environmental responsibility. With the growing awareness of climate change and its impact on the planet, many construction companies are recognising the need to reduce their carbon footprint and embrace more eco-friendly practices. This could involve using sustainable materials, incorporating renewable energy sources into buildings, and adopting circular economy principles to reduce waste and promote recycling.

The construction industry is seeing an increase in hospital projects due to the ongoing demand for healthcare facilities. The pandemic has highlighted the importance of accessible and modern healthcare facilities, which has prompted investments in the construction of new hospitals or the redevelopment of existing ones.

On behalf of Cooke & Dowsett Plumbing Group, I want to congratulate Scott on receiving a lifetime membership award with the Master Plumbers. This prestigious recognition is a testament to his dedication, hard work, and contributions to our industry.

His commitment to excellence and his willingness to go above and beyond has not gone unnoticed. His exceptional leadership, passion, and expertise have inspired many of us to strive for greatness and to make a positive impact in our industry.

Once again, congratulations on this welldeserved honour.

These hospital projects represent just a few of the many ongoing and upcoming projects in the construction industry. The demand for new and improved healthcare facilities is expected to continue, which will likely result in further investments in hospital construction and redevelopmentprojectsintheyearstocome.

We have recently secured the new Frankston Hospital with prominent client Lend Lease, which will not only bring in additional revenue but also provide us with the opportunity to showcase our expertise and capabilities. Our team has been working tirelessly to prepare for this project, and we are confident that it will be a huge success.

Lastly, we would like to take a moment to thank each member of our team for your hard work and dedication.

We appreciate all that you do, and we are excited to continuegrowingandsucceedingtogetherasateam.

It has been a strong start to the year with several projects coming to a close and others just beginning. We are also currently in the process of final negotiations on a few new major projects, ensuring that we have a strong delivery pipeline of work. This positive start to the year demonstrates the team’s ability to attract and secure valuable business opportunities. It is important to maintain momentum and focus on the successful delivery of these projects, while also continuing to explore new opportunitiesforgrowth.

The Frankston Hospital team are starting to mobilise on site and the team structure is taking shape. We are currently in the process of working through the design phase with Lendlease and hospital stakeholders. Works have commenced within the existing facility.

Our two regional projects – Kmart Bairnsdale and Bunnings Wonthaggi are due for completion in the next few months, and I would like to acknowledge the teams on both projects for their dedication and commitment living away from homethroughouttheproject.

It's always unfortunate to see a competitor close their doors, especially when it can create uncertainty within the industry. However, it has also presented us an opportunity to fill some resource gapsandgainfurthermarketshare. It is a stark reminder that we need to stay vigilant, whilst also continuing to focus on providing a high-qualityservicetoourclients.

As we now start to move into the cooler months please keep up the good work, stay focused on delivering quality projects, and continue to strive for excellence. Your efforts and commitment are greatly appreciated and will undoubtedly lead to continued successforusall.

Well Team Qld have got the year off to a flyer in 2023 securing Coast Luxury Apartments for Multiplex, David Jones Reconfiguration for Scentre Group and Albert St Station forCBGU.

Albert St Station is the natural progression for us as we have been on the project under a day works agreement for 15 months performing anything and everything that CBGU want us to do. This has resulted in some crazy out of hours and high risk work which has come to bear fruit as we have secured the official contract. A big thanks to JezzaandThommofortheireffortsonthisjob.

Our Scentre Group project comes under the Westfield banner, where the major tenant David Jones has vacated thebuildingafterceasingalmost60yearsoftradeatthe centre. There will be a total internal demolition of the existing fit out over 2 huge floors which will now make way for 12 new tenancies. Scope includes new drainage, gas and fire systems. All the best to Luke Villanti who has taken the leap from tradesman to having a crack as a SiteManageronthisproject.

The Coast Luxury Apartments for Multiplex will be one ofthemosthighendfitoutsCDPGhascompleted. These apartments are what most of us can only dream about. Situated literally on the beach, right next to the Northcliff Surf Life Saving club, this project will be an absolute pleasure to be part of, and will be the pinnacle of any project on the Gold Coast. The design phase is well underway.Watchthisspace.

Ofourexistingprojectsonthego, wecanreportthatthe structure has finally hit L8 out of 10 at New Performing Arts Venue giving us some services to finally install. This jobhascertainlyhaditschallengesfromastructuralpoint of view, making it hard for us to get any real traction on the installation of plumbing services. Another congratulations this time to Angus Hill for taking the leap from tradesman to Site Manager. Gus has been with the company since commencing his apprenticeship and it is greattoseetheprogressioninhisplumbingcareer.

Our Queens Wharf team have finished rough in on Towers 2&3 and when you are reading this Easter newsletter,approx.70%offitoffwillbecompleted in both towers. We have a couple of boys moving into the plant room on L17 and have started penetrations to the sky deck which will link all 4 towers. This job is an absolute beast with approx. 1700constructionworkersonsiteaswespeak.

On Feb 20th we conducted our Inaugural Site Managers Training Session. This was a great opportunity to get together as a team and discuss various aspects of the roles and duties that we all face together. The day was conducted by Matt Quick and myself and was very well received by all. Thanks to allthatattendedandallthatpresented.

Westralia Square 2 (WS2) is a Premium grade building located in the heart of the Perth CBD, adjacent to the existing Westralia Square 1. WS2 is the first high rise timber officebuildingconstructedinPerth, encompassingaplethora of environmental benefits to businesses and occupants alike. The property has 9,500sqm of Net Lettable Area over 11 floors of office space, built on top of the existing multi-level car park providing 537 tenant and public car park bays to the WestraliaSquareprecinct.

The steel and timber construction method will result in WS2 being one of Perth’s most sustainable and environmentally friendly office buildings. Designed to achieve a 5 Star NABERS Energy Rating and 5 Star Greenstar Rating, the building’s embodied carbon credentials will substantially exceed that of its concrete competitors. The use of timber flooring, existing thermal plant in Westralia Square 1, the existing foundations and the installation of solar panels on the roof are some of the factors that contribute to the sustainable superiority of WS2. Additional precinct works also being undertaken are expected to reposition the existing WestraliaSquare1toitsformerpremiumgradestatus.

Project Plumbing & Maintenance are continuing with their ongoing works at the prestigious Victorian Parliament House project. Works on this project kicked off in June of 2020 and are expected to continue well into 2024. This involves substantial upgrades to the services infrastructure as well as adding two additional levels to the building above and construction of a basement tunnel network below. This project has thrown up many challenges due to the sheer age of the building. Construction first began on parliament house in 1855 with the first stage opening in 1856 meaning this structure has been standing for 168 years to date.

Ethan Minns is back from his holiday and back on the tools. He is coming in to replace Jordan Purcell with Site Managing the 342-348 Flinders Street project as Jordan heads off to America for 3-months to travel around with friends.

Hello and welcome to another year from Pathway Plumbing Services (PPS), we hope you all had a great break over the Christmas holidays. We have hit the ground running and the team are all safely back on deck and recharged ready for the challenges ahead in 2023. After a labour of love I was able to get my old girl on the road and had an epic week travelling the coast of Victoria. It was not without its challenges when you’re driving a 50-year-old car and towing a caravan of the same vintage, but wegotplentyofthumbsupalong the trip and many of admirers when we ran out of petrol in the main street of Halls Gap on the trip home. The new 80 x 2 air conditioner with water reservoir workedwellonthe38-degreetrip home, 80 km/hr 2 windows down and the spray bottle was working overtime.

PPS has had a steady start to the new year and has seen a lot of work at the North East Link project. Most of the team are onsite working alongside the contractors running all the water line for construction water across the site. The project is in its early stages with eight sites starting at Watsonia and ending at Bulleen RoadnearEastlink.Wehavebeen busy with some services relocation and setting up site sheds and roofing the covered walkway. This is a long-term project and we have secured an additional one year contract which will allow for growth in the team and opportunities for both PPS and CDPG plumbers and apprentices to work together on thislargeinfrastructureproject.

As a company here in NZ we have recently just ticked over 5yrs of working on NZ projects which I think is something worth noting. Like any new adventureinlifetherearetrialsandtribulationsyou have to face and overcome and we have hit some challenging patches in our time here, but we soldier on as always and continue to aim to be betterandgrowfromtheselessonlearnt. As always if any of you out there are are ever in Auckland NZ be sure to get in touch and come see whatweareupto.
