CDPG Danish Apprentice Exchange Program
We were thrilled to host Danish 3rd Year Plumbing Apprentice, Nicklas Thomson who joined us recently for 5 weeks as part of CDPG’s Apprentice Exchange Program. The exchange program is an excellent opportunity for apprentices interested in learning anddevelopingtheirplumbingskillswhilstworkingabroad.
Nicklas who is completing his apprenticeship with our host plumbing company Finn L. & Davidsen A/S | VVSPlus in Denmark was exposed to all facets of plumbing across both the commercial and maintenance sectors during his placement. Thanks to our team who took the time to entertain Nicklas and showhimtheAussiesights!
Since the program’s inception in 2015, 10 apprentices have had the opportunity to travel and experience the different approaches to plumbing – did you know in Denmark the water rough-ins are continuous pipe runs i.e. there are no connections, teesorbendsconcealedbehindthewall!

BUILDING A STRONG PROJECT TEAM
We have had a strong start to 2024 as our sites reopened in January at full throttle and we have no signs that it will slow down. We welcomed a new Project Administrators to the Victorian team - April Brassey. A fresh young starter into the construction industry, who is showing a hunger to learn. Welcome to the team April. We are looking forward to seeing your growth and contribution in our projects team.
Congratulations to Hayley Porter who recently completed her traineeship and earlier completion of Certificate III Business. Hayley now forms part of our Victorian Project Administrator team, which is a great reflection of her efforts while working on the Frankston Hospital Project. Of our current projects the months of January and February have been particularly challenging due to an above average number of inclement weather days, identified asbestos and various industrial actions causing hold ups to construction programs. However, as we head into April I can report that all projects are in full swing requiringallourcurrentresourcesatthereadytodeliver.
Stage 2 at Ripley Satellite Hospital has seen the majority of inground areas opening up, resulting in two machines and a bobcat operating full time and with the landing of 20 dongas we have seen a massive push on getting the temp facilities/sheds ready for the influx of alltradesstartingonthisproject.

Wangaratta District Specialist School - Joss Constructions
We are now 95% complete including all inground works not limited to gravity drainage throughout discharging into a central sewer pump station and rising main into the newly installed authority connection. The installation of the new below ground PE fire service, booster pumps and tanks are now also complete. This only leaves the internal rough-inandfitoffremaining.
Thanks to all CDA staff involved in this one. The client Joss Constructions - has been an absolute pleasure to work with. Hoping to tidy this neat little projectupbymid-2024.
Wangaratta United Housing D5
It is fantastic to see the progress on our multi-story residential project in the heart of Wangaratta. Ben Nicholls and Jayden Clissold finished up all the below ground works in late 2023. To date 2024 has only required the CDA guys to attend site as required to install the cast-in fire collars in preparation for the install of stack work throughout and reticulation of CU mains back to central meteringarrangementsandtypicalrough-ins. Ryan MacMaster will also be providing great knowledge and skill to this phase of the project under the leadership of Ben Nicholls CDA Site Manager.
Cobram Village – H. Troon
Charles Wyatt, formerly Site Manager at Frankston Hospital, joined the CDA team in late 2023. He has shownrealleadershiptohisteamwithguidanceand assistance by the CDA management. At times it can be tough starting off fresh on a new project and building a mateship with new work colleagues. I can personally acknowledge Charles has now settled in wellandCDAareluckytohavehimonboard.
Charles and his team have had a very busy start to 2024 with 75% of the gravity drainage now complete throughout Coles and surrounding tenancies, including a large chunk of the new site reticulation. Shout out to Luke Hebard who has completed his 4th year of his apprenticeship in January and is now a qualified plumber, he has stepped up and is delivering some real quality workmanship,WelldoneLuke.
Not leaving out the remaining crew Josh Densten Project Manager, Conner Stewart, Jacob Prosser, Ryan MacMaster, Sam Gallagher and Nathan Morris who have also provided real drive January and February throughout the extreme heat conditions thathasbeenthrownatthemthissummer.
Benalla Police Station – Joss Constructions
Gordan Thompson (Flash), Daniel Boswell, Taylah Causby and Jason Ferguson are powering through the installation of the gravitydrainage,thepour1andnownearingcompletioninpour 2 that includes the installation of good old cast-iron drainage with-in the cell areas then connects back into the main drainage system external of the main building. Just to keep Flash and his team on the hop CDA also had a late entry of the Civil drainage package that came our way. Flash showed great leadership and his experience with-in the commercial plumbing game helped plan these tasks. The delivery of both scopes is a realcredittoallinvolved.
This is a two staged project due to maintaining the “live” police station and courthouse in full operation until the new build has been completed. This has also provided some challenging momentsregardinginvertlevelsonaconstructonlyproject.

MARS Pouch Facility Wodonga – Joss Constructions
Blake Helwig, Jimmy O’Brien, Ryan Graham and our local excavation crew have hit some real milestone in the first few months of 2024, by completing a detailed gravity drainage bore beneath one of the existing buildings to provide drainage for the new expansion. This has provided some real challenges for Paul Harrington and Blake coordinating the mass of existing services to get this task completed, as we all know it all looks easy on paperasalinedrawing.
The level of leadership Blake has shown to date must be acknowledged, closely followed by Jimmy and others who are completing the installation of 160mm & 110mm stainless steel drainage through this project which is a great learning experience for this team not to mention the ownership and quality the boys are delivering to dateisacredittoallinvolved.
Jacob Toyota Showroom - Zauner Constructions
The project consists of multi-level construction and will have many challenges including coordinating site works alongside an actively working mechanical workshop. Rhys Palmer and his team kicked this one off in midJanuary by completing the sub drains first off and now have rolled onto the common trenching of the below ground services from a new North East Water site connection that supplies the new complex and new Fire Pumps and Tanks that are located at opposite ends of the project. Working with-in a full operating complex which has been a real challenge regarding staging. Keepupthegoodwork.
Cootamundra Abattoirs - AMG
David Laird's Site Management skills is really pushing CDAtonewheights!
The coordination of the full-time crew, sourcing materials from many suppliers that have stainless steel drainage and cripped pressurized fitting and pipework instockisarealchallengeforDaveandI.Ourtasklistis forever changing due to the plant and equipment coming on line throughout the commissioning phase of thisproject.
Now operations have commenced, and the plant is now running at 45% capacity it has shortened the window to complete the required tasks put forward and has now opened up the need for 2 crews (Saturday & Sunday). Our awesome subcontractors and the Victorian Plumbers who have been lending a hand to our CDA staff to make the two shifts request achievable is a real credit to all involved which is often highlighted by our clientAMG.
