To steward a significant transition from a private, residential site to a public one, the Frances Perkins Center’s board and staff sought a comprehensive plan to support the visitor experience of this cultural landscape. The Frances Perkins Homestead was the home of Frances Perkins (1880-1965), Franklin Delano Roosevelt’s Secretary of Labor from 1932 to 1944. The Frances Perkins Center is a nonprofit that operates a small museum in Damariscotta, Maine, and, as of 2020, the historic homestead of the Perkins family in nearby Newcastle, Maine.
