Three of state’s 204 rewards received by schools in Conway, seven of arkansas’s 163 ‘A’ Schools Conway Public Schools accounted for three of Arkansas’s 204 Reward Schools, totaling $132,627.60 of the state’s nearly $7 million total. Additionally, seven schools in the district(s) were among the 163 Arkansas schools receiving an ‘A’ on the State Report Cards, based on performance, growth, student success, school quality, and in the case of high schools, graduation rates.

According to the Arkansas Department of Education, “the Arkansas School Recognition Program, Ark. Code Ann. § 6-152107, was created to provide financial awards to public schools that achieve high student performance, student academic growth, and for secondary schools, high school graduation rate.”

The statute authorizes rewards in an amount up to $100 per student for the top 5 percent and up to $50 per student for the top 6-10 percent.

Schools receiving recognition funds must establish a committee to determine the best use of the funds. The committee includes the principal, a teacher elected by the faculty, and a parent representative selected by the local parent teacher organization or another parental involvement group. Schools may use the funds for faculty and staff bonuses, educational equipment and materials, or personnel to assist with improving or maintaining student performance and growth.

Conway Expands Zagster Bike Share Partnership to new Glenrock Apartment community station Engage Management, the new commercial and property management arm of Salter Properties, would like to announce its partnership with Zagster for a new bike share station at the new Glenrock Apartment community. This community is located at 2730 Dave Ward Drive near the University of Central Arkansas. The station of 10 bikes on the Glenrock Apartment community grounds will be the first privately funded station in Conway.

This new fleet will join another network at Centerstone Apartment Homes, soon to be unveiled in this community, which will also include 10 bikes.

“We are excited to see a Conway-based small business incorporating bike-sharing into its offerings and believe Engage Management will be the first of many,” says Adam Greenstein, Zagster’s Conway Market Manager. “With its extensive trail network, Conway is an ideal market for bike share programs to grow and thrive. Now, more people than ever can access bikes as an easy, fun and healthy way to explore everything that Conway has to offer.”

Brent Salter, of Engage Management, says, “We are excited to partner with Zagster at both Glenrock Apartments and Centerstone Apartment Homes for our first act of Engaging People and Places. Engage Management’s goal is to incorporate community involvement and create a sense of place while offering the highest level of property management services.”

Engage Management’s partnership with Zagster was announced on August 29 at the Glenrock Grand Opening, following the Chamber of Commerce ribbon-cutting at 4:30 p.m.

Besides the Glenrock Apartment community, other stations are located around Conway on the campus of UCA, on Tyler St. (near Gatlin Park), and on Salem Road (by the Salem Trail).

Baptist Health, UAMS partner to provide comprehensive orthopaedic services in Conway CONWAY, Ark. – Baptist Health and the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences have partnered to provide comprehensive orthopaedic services with the recent opening of UAMS Baptist Health Orthopaedic ClinicConway.

Seven doctors staff the clinic, and all are fellowship-trained and board certified in orthopaedic specialties like sports medicine and joint replacement. The group includes Drs. Shahryar Ahmadi, C. Lowry Barnes, Paul K. Edwards, Kathryn L. Nance, Lawrence O’Malley, Samuel Overley and Theresa Wyrick-Glover.

Tim Bowen, administrator at Baptist Health Medical Center-Conway, said the clinic acts as a differentiator. Physicians

of different subspecialties provide quality care and work cohesively to ensure the best achievable patient outcomes, he said.

“We’re committed to getting patients in on a timely basis,” Bowen said, referencing the clinic’s ease of access. “We’re keeping care local. This is going to allow all of your orthopaedic needs to be met.”

Bowen said the clinic’s slate of boardcertified doctors and the physicians’ fellowship training – additional studies in a specific subspecialty – helps them stand apart from competitors.

Often, patients can be seen same day if an orthopaedic need arises unexpectedly.

Barnes, consistently named one of the top orthopaedic surgeons in Arkansas, completed fellowship training in total joint replacement from Harvard Medical School and from Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston, Mass. He was also awarded a John Insall fellowship in 2006.

Dr. Kathryn Nance, a family medicine physician who specializes in nonsurgical sports medicine, sees patients of all ages with musculoskeletal issues at UAMS Baptist Health Orthopaedic Clinic-Conway.

“We are very fortunate to have several subspecialties in one place to give patients orthopaedic care to meet their needs,” Nance said. “One advantage of that is convenience so that patients can see a variety of subspecialists in one location.”

Nance, who has been a physician in Conway for nearly a year, said it’s important for Conway, and any community, to have access to such services rather than having to travel.

“It’s great in that if there’s someone who comes, sees me and needs surgery, I can easily can get them to the subspecialist with the expertise in that procedure,” Nance said.

“There’s good communication between us.

We like to make sure that all of our patients get the best care.”

Nance studied at Louisiana State University Health Shreveport’s School of Medicine. She completed a residency in family medicine and a fellowship in sports medicine at John Peter Smith Hospital in Fort Worth, Texas.

The alliance between Baptist Health and UAMS, in which both parties retain their separate organizational structures, was announced in August 2017 as a partnership to strengthen the two institutions’ ability to improve health and care services across Arkansas. The partnership comes as health care organizations transform their business

models through operating agreements and joint ventures to meet the needs of populations.

E.G.O.T. winner to help celebrate minority honorees

Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, and Tony award-winning actress Rita Moreno will help recognize four local minority business leaders.

The annual Minority Enterprise Development Awards recognize the achievements of minority entrepreneurs and business leaders in the Conway area. The Conway Area Chamber of Commerce established the MED committee to foster growth and sustainability of minority businesses and as a way to recognize minority businesses and their supporters.

This year’s honorees will be celebrated on October 23 at an awards reception held at the Brewer-Hegeman Conference Center on the campus of the University of Central Arkansas.

Toad Suck Daze Seeking Committee Members Toad Suck Daze is looking for new committee members to join the festival in 2019.

Toad Suck Daze is one of Arkansas’s largest festivals. The three-day festival focuses on family entertainment while providing funding for education. Toad Suck Daze committee members are an important part of the festival, working year round to help plan and implement activities at the festival.

The committee meets a few times during the year and is onsite during the Toad Suck Daze festival. Committee members are divided into subcommittees, with each subcommittee having additional meetings as needed. Subcommittees include: Toadal Kids Zone, Toad Dome, Entertainment, Vendors, Merchandise, and Logistics.
