Congratulations on your acceptance to Converse College! As you prepare to enroll at Converse for fall 2013, this Guide will serve as a great resource. Included you will find important dates, information on academics and housing, and forms that need to be completed prior to your arrival.

Enrolling students must complete and return ALL forms included in the back of the enrollment guide and online. If you have any questions or need assistance, please contact the Office of Admission at 864.596.9040 or admission@converse.edu. The Office of Student Life is also available to assist you as you complete the enclosed forms and prepare for your enrollment as a Converse student. Enrollment Checklist For Freshmen WITHIN 30 DAYS OF ACCEPTANCE

Enrollment Deposit Deadline

This is the deadline for freshmen to secure a place in the Converse Class of 2017. Your deposit fee is applied to the cost of your balance. Deposit online at converse.edu/deposit.

Summer Orientation and Advising Program–SOAP

Excursion opportunities follow each SOAP session. Register online by May 24 for SOAP I and by June 28 for SOAP II at converse.edu/soap.

AUGUST 21 Move-In Day

This is the day to load up your gear and move into your new home away from home! Move-In Day at Converse is a family affair. Faculty, staff and students will be standing by to help with the heavy lifting. For a list of suggested items to pack, see page 8.

New Student Orientation

As an incoming student we know you have a lot of questions about life at Converse, and rightly so. New Student Orientation will help you hit the ground running-even before the first day of classes begin. Parents and families are invited to help with move-in day, to meet their student’s community adviser and attend a number of information sessions.

The Orientation schedule is posted in July at converse.edu/orientation.

As an incoming transfer student we know you have experienced college before but may have a lot of questions about life at Converse. Transfer Orientation is designed to get you acquainted with Converse.

Student Financial Services Award Letters

Financial Aid award letters will be mailed beginning March 1. Students will receive two copies. One for your records and one that needs to be signed and returned as soon as possible.

Additional information is required for students selected for verification and all students from South Carolina.

Applying for Financial Aid

Filing the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) is the most important step in the financial aid process. This should be done as soon as possible after January 1 and before March 15 for priority consideration. The form is online at fafsa.ed.gov. Be sure to include the Converse FAFSA code: 003431.

The FAFSA determines your eligibility for all needbased aid programs. The financial aid package may include federal, state and Converse grants, loans and work study.

Payment Plan

Converse offers the option to make tuition payments on a monthly basis through Tuition Management Systems. This is an interest-free alternative to lump sum payments each semester. Tuition Management System offers a 10-month payment plan beginning in July. Families can apply for the payment plan at afford.com. Everyone is approved. Payments will begin in August.

SOAP Overnight Program

Required for all new students, the SOAP overnight program launches your college career in the right direction. You’ll meet other incoming students (including potential roommates!) and several current student leaders to establish connections before college starts in the fall. You will also meet with one of our academic advisors to review course options and learn more about the student advising process. COST: $75

Optional Extended Excursions

Add one of the following excursions to extend your SOAP experience and jump into Converse life! COST: $250 (in addition to the $75 SOAP Overnight Program)

Summer Serve

Converse is deeply committed to making a difference in the world, and Summer Serve offers you a taste of how our community comes together to serve others. Teaming with Spartanburg social service agencies, participants tackle various projects that positively impact quality of life — ranging from building projects to landscaping, and from trail maintenance to outreach. To cap off each day, you will join forces with other SOAP excursion participants for fun nights on the town in Asheville, NC and Greenville, SC.

Summer Tourist

Those ready to explore the Upstate and venture off the beaten path can join the Summer Tourist group for excursions around Spartanburg and nearby cities. From art gallery hopping and visiting historical sites to action adventures such as tubing on the Green River and hiking in state parks, activities span the Upstate and into Asheville, NC and Charlotte, NC (programs vary based on available options). To cap off each day, you will join forces with other SOAP excursion participants for fun nights on the town in Asheville, NC and Greenville, SC.

FIRST-GENERATION STUDENT PROGRAM

Trailblazers Perseverance, resilience, resourcefulness and hard work have helped you make it this far in your success. As a firstgeneration college student, this is a particularly important achievement. First-generation college students are those students whose parent(s) have not attained a four-year college degree. The Trailblazer program at Converse is committed to helping you graduate from college and attain your personal and professional goals.

What is the value of participating in the Trailblazer program?

• Opportunity to participate in a Trailblazer Orientation Program (TOP) with your parent/guardian • Workshops and socials throughout your first-year to make life in college a little easier • Access to a support network of Converse resources and peer mentors

Trailblazers Orientation Program (TOP) Trailblazer Orientation Program (TOP) gives our first-generation students the support to move onto campus a day earlier than the first-year student move in date. You and your family will discuss topics related to strategies for success at Converse.

After a morning workshop the following day, students will move on to the full orientation program.

First-generation students interested in participating in TOP can review the complete schedule and register online at converse. edu/trailblazers.

TOP begins on Tuesday, August 20, 2013 with check-in at the Montgomery Student Center between 9:00 am–12:00 pm.

Sessions will begin that afternoon and continue Wednesday morning. Family members are encouraged to stay and participate in the College family orientation program Wednesday afternoon and evening.

What should I do when I arrive on campus for orientation?

Residential students should check-in at Wilson Hall between 8:00 am - 1:00 pm.

Tell me about the parking situation.

When arriving on Move-In Day, all cars should enter through the front entrance of the College located at 580 East Main Street. Students, faculty and staff will be available to direct you to specific unloading zones. Please place the name placard that will be mailed to you with your housing information on the dashboard of your car to expedite the check-in process.

How long should my parents/family stay to help me unpack?

Your parents and family members will not want to miss the Opening Assembly when all new students officially process into Twichell Auditorium. It’s a great photo opportunity! Your parents and family will also want to plan to attend Family Orientation before they leave Thursday evening following the President’s Reception.

Where are the nearest hotel accommodations?

Please visit converse.edu/visit for options, directions and accommodations.

What if I am a commuter?

Commuting students should check-in at Wilson Hall between 11:30 am and 1:00 pm.

Be prepared to start four days of orientation and encourage your family members to join us for the sessions Thursday afternoon.

Residence hall and roommate information

Home Sweet Home Living on a college campus may take a little getting used to. But it won’t be long before your are settled in and feel at home.

Converse residence halls are staffed with a Community Advisor (CA), Peers Enhancing Academic Success (PEAS), Resident Directors (RD), Assistant Directors (AD), and the Director of Residential Life. This dynamic support team will help you get the most out of your college life. On or off campus, the residential life staff is here to enrich your academic and social life.

Our residence halls and apartment community have different characteristics that make each one unique. Traditionally, two residence halls are used to accommodate new freshman while transfer students are housed within our upperclass communities.

Residence Hall Amenities

Regardless of where you live on campus, you will find the following in each residence hall: • Student lounge or living room/lobby fully furnished with a television • MicroFridge, two high speed internet ports, cable TV access and phone line in every room • Twin-size bed and mattress, dresser, desk and chair for each student • Security access system and a personalized electronic key card for each resident • FREE laundry facilities • Computer labs or study rooms

General Student Activities and Events

There are many events and activities to connect and involve students. Make plans to stay on weekends and experience all that Converse has to offer.

Students receive calendars at the beginning of each semester.

Connections for Commuters

Commuting students are strongly encouraged to make their “Day Home” in the Montgomery Student Center. There is a Day Student Lounge and access to computers, study space, a work out room, the mail room, campus resources and many of your fellow commuters. The Day Student Association is one of the strongest and largest organizations on the campus.

Roommate Preference Information Roommate assignments are based on the information you provide the Residential Life Office. Every effort is made to place students together with compatible roommates who share a common interest. All roommate information will be sent to your Converse College email account. It is important to be candid when completing this information, as it will be used to determine your roommate. The deadline for completing your Roommate Preference Information is July 19, 2013. Go to converse.edu/roommate.

CENTER FOR STUDENT development and SUCCESS We are excited about the 2013-2014 academic year and look forward to having you with us.

Two of the special services for incoming students are: 1) a personalized first-semester class schedule mapped out for you in advance, and 2) a freshman adviser who will help you with academic questions and decisions. To register you for classes and to match you with an adviser, these forms must be completed and returned by Monday, July 15. You can find these documents and additional information after June 1st at: converse.edu/admitted and then clicking on Forms for Incoming Freshmen.

The three forms that must be completed are: • Registration Information • Course Preferences (not for music students) • First Year Seminar (not for music students) Please return these forms to Converse College, Office of Admission, 580 E. Main Street, Spartanburg, SC 29302.

The forms you submit, along with your SAT/ACT scores, your Advanced Placement scores and GPA, will be used to create an individualized plan of study for you as you begin your first semester at Converse. During Orientation in August, you will have the opportunity to meet with your adviser, review your schedule and make changes if necessary.

If you have been invited to participate in the Nisbet Honors Program, you will receive a separate mailing regarding the selection of your fall honors course.

The following will give you an idea of what to expect during your first semester. You will: • Normally be registered for 15-16 hours • Be registered in a required First Year Seminar • Be registered in the Student Success Seminar • Likely be registered in a required Fitness and Wellness course (2 credits) • Likely be registered in foreign language and/or English composition (3 or 6 credits) • Be registered in a variety of other courses depending on your intended major and specific preferences

As a new incoming student, you will not have to register! You will be registered based on the information you submit.

Freshmen What to expect and when for deposited students: June Each year, incoming students participate in the Freshman

Reading Program and book discussions during Orientation.

This year’s book is In the Garden of Stone by Converse professor Susan Tekulve. Information on the book and the program will be available in June at converse.edu/admitted and then clicking on Forms for Incoming Freshmen.

Mid-June–Mid-July

Receive placement exam information for those choosing Spanish, French or German. (Placement exams for other languages are not required.)

Academic Advising Forms due.

Baccalaureate score evaluation for those who participated in one or both of these programs.

Registration for fall classes is taken care of for you based upon the information you provide. First semester freshmen do not register online.

During Orientation, you will: • Meet with your adviser to finalize registration. Schedule changes cannot be made prior to this meeting.

• Turn in your essay and discuss the summer reading selection • Take language placement exam, if needed • Have language oral interview, if needed

Transfer Students What to expect and when for deposited transfer students: After depositing: Submit all official transcripts to Converse as soon as possible.

These must be evaluated by the Registrar to determine what and how much credit you will receive. You cannot receive credit based upon transcript copies sent to you or downloaded.

Beginning Late April Registration: You can initiate your course registration process

beginning in late April. Please contact Dr. Brant Bynum at brant. bynum@converse.edu giving dates and times you are available for a registration conference in person or by phone. After your registration conference, Dr. Bynum will register you for classes.

Orientation: All transfer students are required to participate in a three day orientation program. Transfer students have a special transfer track for orientation and will be in a group with other transfers.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTionS

Technology Where can I check my Converse email?

You are able to check your school email account from any computer by going to my.converse.edu.

Am I required to bring a personal computer to college?

Bringing a computer to college is not required as there are multiple computer labs located across campus. However, we do recommend you consider the convenience of having a personal computer available for your use. Please read our computer recommendations page at converse.edu/campus-technology to find out if your computer meets the existing requirements.

Does the College offer discounts on computers and computer software?

As a student at Converse, you are eligible to receive discounts on computers and computer software. Please see our computer recommendations page at converse.edu/campus-technology to find out more about what is available to you as a student.

Do I need to bring a printer?

While having a printer in your room is definitely convenient, this decision is entirely up to you. Nearly all of our campus computers are setup for printing. And all students receive a print account each semester.

Should I bring an electrical power strip or surge suppressor for my computer?

Yes, we highly recommend the four or six receptacle models made by companies that will reimburse you for any electrical surge damage to the equipment plugged into their surge suppressor. Protecting and ensuring your computer and printer are entirely your responsibility.

Will Campus Technology troubleshoot and/or repair my computer?

Yes, students are required to drop off their computer at the Campus Technology office, located on third floor Kuhn. We will do our best to resolve the problem.

Banking Where should I bank when attending Converse?

There are a number of local and regional banks within walking distance of the campus and all of them extend a warm welcome to college students. On move-in day several vendors, including banks will be available to provide additional information.

Social Life How do Converse students spend their weekends?

Converse women are great at making fun happen. With an active CAB (Converse Activities Board) program, there are a number of weekend activities that occur right on campus and provide students with the opportunity to invite friends for the weekend.

As a College Town, there are more than 13,000 students in Spartanburg and a number of annual events that pull the various campus communities together. Some of the annual programs in the past have included; a cosmic bowling bash, the Sparkle City Showdown that allows for friendly rivalry around powder puff football; and campus concerts – including our own Spring Concert on the back lawn of the College. Converse also sponsors a couple of bus trips each year to nearby cities for shopping, skiing and football games.

What restaurants are in the area?

There are a number of local restaurants and coffee shops in walking distance from the campus. Some of the student favorites are Wild Wings, Delaney’s Pub, Mellow Mushroom and Monsoon Noodle House. Spartanburg has plenty of other options in almost every price range, whether you’re in the mood for pizza, Mexican, Chinese, Thai or German. Several restaurant chains are also close by, including; Moe’s, Applebee’s, Ruby Tuesday’s and O’Charley’s.

Converse is fortunate to have an AmeriCorps Vista professional on campus as a full-time staff member to identify and create a wide range of service opportunities for students. Every year, there are a number of special days and activities planned expresslly for Converse students to get involved and make a positive impact in the local community. In addition, many of our student service groups have long standing relationships with local organizations such as Habitat for Humanity, Safe Homes Rape Crisis Center, Spartanburg Humane Society and Relay for Life. How else can I be involved?

There are over 60 groups on campus that offer ways for students with common interests to connect. The clubs expand each year to meet current trends and interests. Clubs created in the last few years include Garden Variety to raise awareness of vegetarian and vegan dining, the Valkyries Dance Crew to provide a pop-music based dance option, and the Interfaith Council to advance cross faith dialogue and partnership. So where are the guys anyway?

Funny how we get that question a lot! Our students find plenty of ways to meet people while in college. Located in the heart of Spartanburg, Converse is in close proximity to the six other colleges and universities that make up the College Town consortium. From the annual Back to School band party in the fall, to the CollegeTown Fall Fest downtown and Community Service Initiative in the spring, and a variety of events in between, there are ample opportunities to socialize with college students who call Spartanburg home.

Add to that, college football games and collaborative student programs at neighboring colleges, socials and dances here on campus and countless cultural activities around town – well, you get the gist.

UNdergraduate Housing Agreement STATE OF SOUTH CAROLINA COUNTY OF SPARTANBURG This Agreement is made by and among Converse College (College), the undersigned (Student), and the undersigned parent or guardian of student (parent); provided, however, this Agreement does not constitute a commitment of admission of student to the College. By signing and returning this Agreement, student and parent indicate their acceptance of the terms and conditions of occupancy of College housing stated in this Agreement and the Student Handbook, and student and parent acknowledge reading carefully and receiving a copy of this Agreement. This Agreement shall apply for the entire academic year, or any part of the academic year, that student is enrolled at the College.

Terms and conditions—Housing Policy College, Student and Parent agree as follows: 1. Eligibility for Housing. Student must be admitted or currently enrolled and registered for classes as a full-time undergraduate or Converse II student.

In some cases, students enrolled for less than a full academic load may be granted permission by the Dean of Students to live in College housing facilities.

2. Period of Occupancy. For new students, occupancy shall begin on the day of orientation and end within 24 hours of student’s last spring term exam.

For returning students, occupancy shall begin the day before fall term registration and end within 24 hours of the student’s last spring term exam; except students who are housed until 5:00 p.m. on the day of graduation. Specific dates of orientation, registration, examinations and graduation will be announced each year by the College and published in the official calendar of the College. Residence halls must be vacated during vacation periods and term breaks, unless the College indicates otherwise. Food service will not be available when residence halls are closed. If a student withdraws, takes a leave of absence, or is academically disqualified, she must immediately check out of her residence hall room.

3. Residency policy. All traditional, undergraduate, unmarried students are required to live in College housing unless residing with a parent or legal guardian within a 35 mile radius of the College campus.

4. Deposit fee. A nonrefundable fee of $300 must be paid to the College before a student will be assigned a room or allowed to register for classes. This fee applies to new, entering students, as well as to students currently enrolled who plan to return next year. The fee is due in the spring. Reminders are sent to all students.

5. Cancellation or suspension of Housing Agreement. Student may terminate this agreement only for the following reasons: withdrawal from the College; ineligibility to continue enrollment due to a failure to meet academic or other requirements of the College; completion of graduation requirement; failure to register for classes; marriage, or circumstances which are determined by the College to be beyond the control of student. Documentation may be required to show cause for termination. The College may terminate this agreement for the following reasons: student fails to meet all terms and conditions stated in this Agreement; student violates College or residence hall regulations and policies stated herein or in the Student Handbook; student fails to pay fees due to the College; continued residency of the student will pose danger to life, health, emotion or general well-being of student or other member of the College community; or student behaves in a manner which is not conducive to the educational mission of the College. In the event that the accommodations assigned to student are destroyed or otherwise made uninhabitable and the College does not furnish substitute accommodations, this Agreement shall terminate and all rights and liabilities of the parties shall cease. In such event, College shall refund, on a pro-rated basis, a portion of the payments received for the period during which such accommodations were not available.

6. Assignment of Housing Agreement. This Agreement may not be assigned or transferred to any other person.

7. Room and Roommate Assignment. This Agreement does not guarantee student a particular room or roommate. The College reserves the right to make and change all room assignments, to fill unoccupied spaces in a room or to relocate student as deemed necessary. All housing assignments are made without regard to race, creed, sexual orientation, religion, color or national origin; room changes will not be approved based on these reasons.

8. Room Changes. Student may change rooms only with the approval of the Director of Residential Life during specified room change periods. Specific procedures and dates for such changes are available from theResidential Life Office . A student may be fined or her Housing Agreement terminated, or both, for changing rooms without following proper procedures.

9. Responsibility for Personal Property. Converse does not assume any obligation or responsibility for the loss of damage to items of personal property of student which occur in College buildings or on College property. Student and parent are encouraged to carry appropriate insurance to cover such loss or damage. College is not responsible for any items left by student in College housing facilities after student checks out, withdraws, or takes a leave of absence from College. Such items will be considered abandoned property and may be retained or disposed of at the discretion of the College.

10. Responsibility for Room and College Furniture. College rooms are furnished with beds, desks, desk chairs, dressers, and MicroFridges. Students are responsible for the condition of the furniture originally assigned to the room, and may be billed for damages incurred during the year. Furniture assigned to a room must remain in that room.

11. Community Areas. Community areas in the residence halls (lobbies, study rooms, bathrooms, elevators, kitchens, hallways, etc.) are the joint responsibility of all students living in that building. Residents should treat community areas as they would their own homes. Damages incurred in community areas will be divided and charged to each resident of a hall or building unless the specific students responsible are identified.

12. Cooking. Fire safety regulations require that cooking equipment with exposed heating elements, such as but not limited to popcorn poppers, hot pots, and coffee pots, may not be used in the rooms, but may be used only in the kitchen areas.

13. Damage Deposit. Student is required to pay a $100.00 room damage deposit the first tuition payment, which will be credited to the balance of student’s account upon graduation or withdrawal from the College if no damages are assessed against student and no other fees or charges are owed by student to the College.

14. Firearms and Fireworks. Student shall not possess or use firearms or fireworks on College property. Fireworks are described as any substance prepared for the purpose of producing a visible or audible effect by combustion, explosion or detonation.

15. Fire Safety. Evacuation of College buildings is mandatory when fire alarm is sounded. Student shall not tamper with fire safety equipment or cause a false alarm. A minimum fine of $100 and suspension from the College may result from violations of this provision. Student shall not set or cause to be set any unauthorized fire in or on College property. No candles, incense, oil lamps, halogen lamps or other types of open flames are allowed in the residence halls. No space heaters, irons, or ceiling fans are permitted.

16. Food Service. All residential students are required to have a meal plan. Food service shall be provided when classes are in session.

17. Guests. Guests of the same sex as student may visit for up to three consecutive nights not more than nine times each semester and should be registered with the Resident Director /Assistant Director. Longer visits must be approved in advance by the Resident Director. Student is responsible

for the conduct of her guests. Guests may not be given the use of Access Cards or room keys at any time.

18. Room Keys. Room keys will be issued by the Residential Life Staff in each residence hall. A replacement fee of $50.00 ($150for buildings using the KABA Core System ) will be charged for any student who loses her key or fails to turn it in during the academic year.

19. Male Visitation. Male visitation, defined as periods when members of the opposite sex are allowed in rooms, will be available in College housing only as specified in the Student Handbook. Specific regulations for male visitation are listed in the Student Handbook, and student is responsible for complying with regulations and for the conduct of all guests, including male visitors.

20. Medical Form. Student will not be permitted to occupy a room in College housing until student’s medical form has been returned and deemed complete by the Director of Health Services. This is a requirement of state law.

21. Pets. Out of consideration of those with allergies and because of damages and health hazards caused by animals, no pets or animals of any kind are allowed in the residence halls nor are pets allowed to visit. Fish are only allowed in aquariums no larger than 10 gallons. A resident determined to be responsible for the presence of an animal is subject to a $300 fine. The residents within an apartment or room where an animal is found are also each subject to a $100 minimum fine for not reporting. Subsequent offenses will result in a doubling of the previous fine. In addition to the fine, the owner of the animal will be responsible for all damage and cleaning costs resulting from the animal. If there is a second violation of this nature, resident(s) will be subject to student conduct action. Animals must be removed immediately from the campus.

22. Private Rooms. If student occupies a room (either a single or double room) alone for any reason, student will be assessed an additional fee per semester as stated in the Student Handbook.

23. Refrigerators/Microwaves. MicroFridges are provided in all residence hall rooms and are included in student’s room and board fee.

24. Room Entry Policy. The College reserves the right to enter and/or search a student’s room when there is reason to believe an emergency exists, a college or residence hall violation is occurring or has occurred, the health, safety or well-being of the occupant or other persons is at stake, or for purposes of maintenance. In the case of suspected criminal violations to be adjudicated outside of the Converse College judicial system, searches will be conducted by law enforcement officials pursuant to a search warrant. In the case of suspected College regulation infractions, evidence produced during a room search (with or without a search warrant) may be used in college judicial proceedings. Student staff members may search rooms without a full-time College official only for the purpose of opening closets (to conduct a visual inspection), looking under beds and opening and removing items from refrigerators and coolers. A College staff member and/or campus safety officer may enter each room during any fire alarm or drill to make sure that the residents have evacuated the building.

25. Routine maintenance and safety inspections. College reserves the right to enter all College housing facilities to perform maintenance and conduct inspections for reasons of health, safety and condition of College property. If items are found during such inspections which violate College policy or State or Federal law, student will be notified and appropriate action taken.

26. Security. Residence hall security and safety is of utmost importance. Student shall not loan her Access Card to a guest or visitor or allow an unescorted guest to gain access to residence hall, nor shall student prop open locked doors or otherwise compromise the safety of the residence hall.

27. Smoke-free halls. All residence halls are smoke-free. This includes all common areas and student rooms.

28. Soliciting/sales. Soliciting, canvassing or use of College housing facilities as a location for selling or advertising is prohibited unless permission is granted in writing by Office of Student Life. Organizations chartered by the College must register fundraisers with the Office of Student Life.

29. Telephones. Telephones are not provided by the College. Charge for on-campus service is included in student’s room charges.

30. Termination of College Housing. Converse College has the right to dismiss a student from college housing if her presence in the community is a detriment to herself or the community. Dismissal from the College housing can be a result of disciplinary action.

31. Children in the Residence Halls. Residents may not have children living with them in the residence halls. This includes overnight stays and lengthy visits (defined as more than one hour) during the day. If a child will be present in the residence halls for a lengthy visit, the resident must obtain permission from the Resident Director.

32. Babysitting in the Residence Halls. Babysitting for children in the residence halls is not permitted. Babysitting is defined as caring for a child while a parent or guardian is otherwise occupied. If a child will be present in the residence halls for a lengthy visit (defined as more than one hour), the resident must obtain permission from the ResidentDirector. The Visitation Policy, which applies to males and females above age six, is explained in the Student Handbook.

33. Married Students. Married students are permitted to live off-campus (see Residency Requirement). If a married student wishes to reside on campus, she must submit a written request to the Dean of Students.

34. Pregnant Students — If a student is or becomes pregnant while residing in College housing, she must notify the Dean of Students before the second trimester. Pregnant students are expected to meet with the Dean of Students to develop a plan for support.

35. Other Policies. In addition to the policies set forth in this Agreement, the Student Handbook contains other administrative policies and social and residence hall regulations for which student is responsible. The Student Handbook will be distributed to each student and an additional copy may be obtained through Community Advisors or the Office of Student Life. All charges, fees, payments, fines, assessments or sums of any kind for which student is responsible as a result of the terms of this Agreement or the Student Handbook shall also be the responsibility of parent.

Procedure for Requesting Academic Accommodations To declare a disability, a student must provide relevant documentation of the disability and list accommodations requested. Common accommodations include: permission to tape record lectures, extended time on quizzes and exams, quiet testing, use of a note taker in class.

The office for support is located in the Center for Student Development and Success in the Montgomery Student Center.

• Complete a “Request for Academic Accommodations” form from the Director of Accommodations and Tutoring Services. To obtain the form, please contact Tania McDuffie at tania.mcduffie@converse.edu or call 864.596.2028.

• After you have completed the form, please return it to Converse with the documentation that is requested.

• Schedule a meeting with the Director of Accommodations.

• Receive a CAP card (Certified Accommodation Plan).

• Meet with Director of Accommodations to learn how to use your CAP card and how your accommodations plan will be handled with each professor.

While every effort will be made to complete your evaluation quickly, we ask that you allow a minimum of 30 days to complete the process.
