DAYS OFF

Start 2025 with a Family

Brule’s Last Coal

2024 marked the end of an era, as the last coal was mined at Brule, closing a chapter of hard work and dedication since its opening in 2016 As the Brule prepares to enter Care and Maintenance, many employees have transitioned to the growing operations at Willow Creek and Quintette mine sites. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to our employees for their commitment and resilience and to our local communities and Indigenous Nations for their unwavering support throughout Brule’s journey

January 4th is recognized as Ribbon Skirt Day

The Ribbon skirt is more than just a piece of clothing it is a powerful symbol of cultural resilience and identity.

Rooted in the traditions of Indigenous, Métis, and First Nations peoples, the Ribbon Skirt has evolved over centuries through cross-cultural exchanges. While the modern version may differ from its historical counterparts, its essence

remains a reflection of deep cultural connections and respect for our ancestors. Originally crafted from buckskin and other natural materials, the Ribbon Skirt began to evolve with the introduction of European trade goods such as ribbons, fabric, and beads. These new materials blended with traditional practices, creating a garment that is both beautiful and meaningful.

The Ribbon Skirt represents not only individual identity but also community, spirituality. Across Turtle Island, different communities have their own unique versions of the Ribbon Skirt, each carrying its own cultural significance, patterns, and stories. Whether worn for ceremonies, as part of regalia, or as a statement of resilience and pride in our culture, the Ribbon Skirt remains a living legacy to the strength, diversity, and adaptability of Indigenous cultures.

The Ribbon Skirt’s journey through history, from its early forms to its modern-day significance, is a powerful reminder of the unbreakable connection between past, present, and future generations It honours our ancestors while allowing us to carry forward our stories, values, and traditions.
