elcome to the 8th Annual Pearls of Perfection Cotillion. On behalf of the 66 members of Contra Costa Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated, please accept our heartfelt appreciation for your patronage. On this spectacular evening, we proudly celebrate the talents and accomplishments of 22 extraordinary young women and men from the San Francisco/Oakland Bay Area who were selected for this program based on their academic excellence, exemplary moral standards and active engagement in their communities. Our honorees hail from diverse backgrounds and experience and over the past six months each have excelled personally and professionally. Tonight, we applaud their accomplishments and chosen path in life and commend them on beginning the next step in their journey on the road to success and happiness.

s director of marketing for the largest, non-profit, integrated health system in the United States, which serves over 12 million members and invests over $2 billion in communities each year - Christina serves as a thought partner, strategist and advisor to senior leaders. With thirty years of experience in communications, stakeholder engagement and leadership, Christina drives for results through establishing credibility, demonstrating expertise and developing relationships with key stakeholders ranging from c-suite executives to external partners - including the Center for Disease Control, National Institutes of Health, National Basketball Association, Golden State Warriors and Home Box Office, just to name a few. Christina is passionate about initiatives aimed at ending disparities in health care for people of color that exist within the United States health care system. In 2015, Christina established CMC Communications, a communications and leadership consulting firm, which she still owns and operates. Christina is most devoted to the call that God has placed on her life as a 12-year pancreatic cancer survivor. Despite living with active cancer for the past twelve years, Christina remains determined to “live”. She wholeheartedly believes that her cancer diagnosis is not a curse, but rather an opportunity to share the power of faith, hope, determination and resilience – even in the face of difficulty. She understands that no problem is too big for God. She is committed to inspiring and uplifting her community and other cancer survivors. She shares her cancer journey on Instagram @ tinashealingcancerjourney. Christina holds a Master’s Degree in Leadership and Communications from Seton Hall University, a Bachelor of Arts degree in Business Administration from St. Mary’s College of California and is a certified Nutrition Health Coach. In 2011, Diversity MBA named her as one of the Top 50 Emerging Leaders in the United States of America. She enjoys mentoring others and is honored to serve as Chaplain for the Contra Costa Alumnae chapter of Delta Sigma Theta, Inc. Christina has been married to her husband – her partner in love, life and health for thirty-one years. They share two amazing adult children. In her spare time, Christina enjoys theatre, music, fine dining, Pilates and hiking around the Bay Area. She was born and raised in San Francisco, California.

hartered in 1990 by Regional Director June LaVerne Long, Esq., Contra Costa Alumnae Chapter became the 821st Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated. Our chapter made history by becoming the first chapter chartered at the Fifth Annual California Social Action Conference (Delta Days) held at the State Capitol in Sacramento, California and currently consists of 76 members who are committed to leading change and addressing the needs and challenges that impact the residents of Contra Costa County.

We take pride in the fact that we are empowering the community and improving the quality of life for hundreds of families. Under the current leadership of Jeanetta Minix, we have made a significant and positive difference in the lives of its residents through Social Action. t has been our honor to chair the 8th Annual Pearls of Perfection Debutante Cotillion. The theme for this year’s class “The Courage to Embrace Transformation” succinctly sums up these eleven amazing Debutantes and their escorts journey through this dynamic program. We are humbly grateful to the parents who entrusted us with the responsibility to enhance the gifts and strengths of these young women and men as they devoted their time to become Polished, Poised, and Prepared. It has been a pleasure to guide them throughout the process and tonight, we present the future of our community, showcasing our finest for the world to see. During the past six months, the Debutantes participated in workshops, training, community service and “bonding” activities designed to enhance their personal growth and development. Our goal was to empower our Debutantes to be successful during their transition from high school to becoming a young adult. We hope that the experience was memorable, rewarding and that the seeds of long-lasting friendships were planted. To our parents and guardians, thank you for allowing us to mentor your children. Our promise was to guide them through this process and steer them towards a path that would enrich their lives forever. We took this charge seriously and trust that your child’s participation has been meaningful. Through culminating events, we have arrived at tonight’s unforgettable Cotillion. Without your support, this program would not be possible. We extend our deepest gratitude to each of you and applaud your sacrifice and investment. As Chairs, the 2024 Debutante Class will always hold a special place in our hearts. They are an outstanding group! To the hardworking and dedicated Pearls of Perfection Debutante Committee and Delta Dears we are extremely appreciative and thankful for your leadership, support, and commitment. Throughout the planning and delivery of this program, up to the execution of tonight’s grand affair, you are the backbone of this program and so you should celebrate this evening as well! Parents, Family, Friends and well-wishers of the Pearls of Perfection Greetings 2024 Cotillion Class. Over the past 6 months, these young men have been working diligently in preparation for tonight. In addition to fulfilling their commitments as scholars, athletes, and community members, they have attended workshops and activities in the following areas: College Preparedness, Empowerment/Self Awareness, Etiquette, Project Planning and management, Leadership Development, Community Service and Waltz practices. It was during these Waltz practices and more specifically, during the Escort presentation practice, where we saw these boys become young men. t is with great pride that we celebrate the 2023-2024 Pearls of Perfection Debutantes and Escorts. I am honored to have chaired the workshop committee for this exemplary program in which the sole purpose was to assist the young ladies and their escorts to become Polished, Poised and Prepared. It is our aspiration that by participating in this program they were able to gain skills that they will use for a lifetime.

Our Debutantes and Escorts have embraced transformation through their participation in the various workshops. In August, we kicked off the program with the Impeccable Speaking workshop where participants were challenged to define their brand and how to share it through essay writing and public speaking. Our Debutantes demonstrated what they learned during the Mother Daughter Tea in September. In our next workshop Dr. Arika Spencer-Brown and Mr. Micheal Lucus got participants and their families started on their Road to College by sharing information on the college application process and how to strategically pay for college. In October, the focus was on the importance of Mental Health, Self-love and Healthy Relationships as they move forward on their journey. In December, our past Debutantes and Escorts joined us for a College Panel to share their college experiences with current participants. Lastly, Mrs. Tina Hayes of The School of Etiquette & Decorum presented our Etiquette workshop just in time for the Cotillion Ball. Congratulations to the Pearls of Perfection 2023-2024 Debutante and Escort Class, you embraced transformation through your completion to the workshops and the other components of the program.

Symone Bogan

Miss Bré Symone Bogan, daughter of Donald and Shawnta’ Bogan, is a senior at Freedom High School in Oakley, California. She is an active member of the National Honors Society and is on track to graduate with honors. In her sophomore and junior years, Bré served as the Rallies and Activities Commissioner, where she planned multiple events, from decorating spaces to hosting rallies. Bré was elected to Freedom’s All Student Body Cabinet, where she served as Secretary. Recently, she was appointed to Team Captain of Freedom’s dance team. Bré is also an active member of Freedom High School’s Black Student Union. Bré volunteers her time at the Antioch Homeless Coalition. She assists with preparing and disseminating food packages to the unhoused population in Antioch, Brentwood and Oakley, California. The adjective that best describes Bré is ambitious because she is always willing to challenge herself and strives to succeed in each endeavor that interests her. Bré plans to attend college at Clark Atlanta University, where she intends to major in biology. After college, she aspires to become an anesthesiologist. Bré is presented by her father, Donald Bogan. Al’ecia Dozier

Miss Zoe Al’ecia Dozier, daughter of Thomas D. Dozier and Karen Benjamin-Dozier, is a senior at Saint Patrick Saint Vincent’s Catholic School in Vallejo, California. She is a member of the National Society of High School Scholars, the Black Student Union, and the Spanish Club. Zoe is fluent in Spanish and excels in mathematics and science. Zoe volunteers with the Contra Costa County Child Abuse Prevention Center in Concord, CA, where she assembles informational bags for new parents, teaching them how to care for and treat their children. This work has taught Zoe that life can be difficult for many people, and it makes her appreciate her loving parents who afford her the opportunity to be able to give back to the community. Zoe has participated with the Dr. Betty Shabazz Delta Academy and is a current member of the Jeanne L. Noble Delta GEMS Institute both with the Contra Costa County Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. Zoe has played club volleyball for several years as a forward and center. In her spare time, she enjoys playing the guitar, writing poetry, short stories and spending time with her nieces and nephews. The adjective that best describes Zoe is extraordinary. Zoe plans to attend a California University or College. She has been accepted to Cal State Northridge University and San Francisco State University. Zoe would like to major in English and Theatre. After graduating from college, Zoe hopes to become a movie director or screen writer. Zoe is presented by her father Thomas D. “When you think about quitting, remember why you started.” Miss Ja’Leigh Nevaeh D. Lang, daughter of Leighton and JaWana Lang is a senior at Archbishop Riordan High School in San Francisco, California. Ja’Leigh has exemplified leadership at school as the President of Riordan’s Black Student Union, an executive committee lead on the Student Government team and a student Lead for Riordan’s Sports Medicine Program. For the past 4 years, Ja’Leigh has held a 3.67 GPA or higher each semester of her high school career and was the recipient of the Presidential Award for earning a 4.0 or above GPA last semester. Ja’Leigh loves volunteering to coach and being a mentor for community organizations like Redwood City 49ers Cheer Team, Bayshore Elite Gymnastics and East Palo Alto YMCA. Ja’Leigh’s gymnastic career began at the age of 6 years old with a push from her Great-Great Aunt Claire who instructed her parents to enroll her at Bayshore Elite Gymnastics. The countless hours of training developed a committed, driven, focused, and loyal National Junior Olympic level 10 gymnast! Once Ja’Leigh has set goals; she allows nothing to stop her from reaching those goals and turning them into reality, no matter how tough the battle. Her willingness to persevere and reach for the stars creates her success. The adjective that best describes Ja’Leigh is determined. Ja’Leigh has been accepted and will attend The University of Arkansas in the Fall of 2024 as a student-athlete; “Yes, she will be a Razorback,” and intends to major in Exercise Science and with a minor in Psychology. Ariel McElhaney

Miss Nile Ariel McElhaney, daughter of Maurice and Kellie McElhaney, is a Senior at Alameda Community Learning Center in Alameda, California and is dually enrolled at Laney Community College where she will graduate with her Associate of Science degree in Biology. Currently, she serves as the Senior Liaison for her class, Co-head of the dance committee and assistant yearbook editor. Throughout her high school tenure, Nile has maintained a 4.2 high school GPA and 3.4 college GPA . Nile is a member of the National Society of High School Scholars and has been a member of the National Coalition of 100 Black Women Positive Steps Program since 2018. She has won multiple essay contests including placing 1st place in 2022 in the Madam C.J. Walker Business and Community Awards contest, 1st place in 2022 Positive Step Program essay competition and 2nd place winner of the 2023 Positive Steps Program. Nile also volunteers her time at Kaiser Permanente Health fairs in Oakland and Richmond, California and at the West Oakland Health Center. When she is not studying, writing award winning essays or volunteering, she enjoys baking and reading. Nile always starts her mornings and ends her nights by reading a chapter or more of a book or online story. The adjective that best describes Nile is tenacious. She is still deciding where to attend college because she has been accepted to Howard University, Hampton University, Morgan State University, University of Maryland – Baltimore County, Townson University, and Cal State East Bay most of which with Merit Scholarships. Nakayla Monique Moore

Miss Nakayla Monique Moore, daughter of Mr. Darryl Maurice and Dr. Talia Moore, is a senior at Salesian College Preparatory High School in Richmond, California. Nakayla is an honor roll student and accomplished school leader. Throughout her four years of high school Nakayla has maintained a 3.87 GPA and has received the prestigious $30,000 Minds Move Mountains scholarship for academic excellence. Nakayla currently serves as Student Body Treasurer. Her other leadership roles have included Junior Class President, Events Coordinator, Faith Family Leader and she participates in SLAM, Student Leadership and Ministry. Nakayla enjoys sharing about her own cultural experiences and learning about the experiences specific to other cultures. This is exemplified by her participation in the Diversity Club and the African American Association of Knowledge. Nakayla welcomed and hosted foreign exchange students for one week from Quebec, Canada during her Junior year. Nakayla plays softball for Salesian and holds the positions of pitcher and first basemen on the team. In addition, she is a varsity cheerleader and cheers for both football season and girls’ and boys’ basketball as

well. She is a member of her school theater program and will be showcasing her skills in the upcoming on campus “In the Heights” production.
