The writing process in Soy Autor evoques an authentic experience of self discovery. The following piece is the result of the collaborative work between students and teachers to find the heart of the story, through the publication of their first illustrated Memoir.

I knew this would happen someday, but I didn’t know exactly what I would feel.

It was as if a great storm of emotions was slowly flooding my being. At the same time, I was stressed, as if I had a big weight on me.

If I felt like that, how did he feel?

To take a new course and to leave everything behind wasn’t easy at all,

To leave your friends, and most importantly: family.

So much pressure!

Although it was exciting to buy shoes, clothes, and really fancy suits too.

That storm of emotions was slowly dissolving in a single feeling: fear.

Who wants to remain alone?

In those kind of moments you become aware of all the good times that you lived with the most meaningful people.

More than meaningful, essential.

All those moments that we lived with them help us to be who we are today.

If they go, a part of us will be gone too?

The time had come.

The luggage was ready, but my heart wasn’t.

It was the time to undertake a new journey, But in separate paths.

The way to the airport was so long. Silence and sadness accompanied us and they wrapped us up with an intense cold.

The music sounded too loud in my ears. I wanted the noise to drown the storm that terrified me.

At last, We got to the airport.

Saying goodbye to him was hard not only for me, but also for his parents.

To hear: “It’s time”

Seeing him getting close to me to give me a tight hug;

Listening to him saying “be nice”

To feel his arms around me and letting me go slowly and telling me “goodbye” one more time with a big smile in his face.

He said goodbye to his parents and also to those friends that were there with him.

We managed to see him a few more minutes,

until he took his luggage,he raised his gaze and walked away

without looking back.

Although I felt that a part of me was leaving too, It wasn’t a “goodbye for good”:

It was a “see you soon”.

In the bottom of my heart I knew I would see him again.

All that was left was waiting for his return.

The return of my brother.

The darkness of the storm went away slowly as the days went by. At the end, there wasn’t a colorful rainbow, but my parents and I knew that the blue sky promised a better future for all of us - together.

The kilometers stopped being an obstacle.

I’m Nancy I love to see the sunset and the raindrops falling Sometimes, I like to see the night arriving The moon, the stars and the endless blue sky That suddenly turns into black.

I like to wonder what destiny holds for me I would like to live in the countryside Surrounded by trees and flowers And see the wind move them from side to side, I would like to smell the flowers, and the fresh grass And the delicious smell of my mother’s food I look forward traveling and see new places And see the beauty of nature and meet new people.
