As part of our commitment to creating meaningful stories that promote the human good, we’re bringing invigorating genres, beyond those we are more known for, to existing and new partners while elevating the local drama production scene. This is evident in our action-packed series, Incognito. We’re constantly opening up new opportunities for our stories to reach even more viewers, by forging mutually beneficial partnerships and getting more of our dramas adapted in the region. This year, we are also putting a stronger focus on our internationallyrecognized game shows, which we believe have the universal appeal and makings of the next big hit.”

Pia Laurel, Sales Head, OTT and Co-production

Since 1953, ABS-CBN has been a premiere source of high-quality Filipino content and primarily involved in high caliber productions for television, online and over-the-top platforms, cable, satellite, cinema, events and radio, for both domestic and international markets. ABS-CBN’s road to transformation provided not only strong affinity with the local audiences, but also agility in going global, with 60,000+ hours sold worldwide in over 50 territories.

Genres

We have everything from FTV-ready romance and family dramas to exciting action and thriller series, both in long form and compressed 20-hour formats. We’re also building our non-scripted IP slate, adding in the recent winner from MIPFormats Pitch 2025: physical game show Save Your Cash to join our other awardwinning game show Everybody, Sing!

Original production/ co-production

Our new action series INCOGNITO – first seen on Netflix Philippines – has been at the top since its launch. It delves into the lives of seven disillusioned people who unite to engage in high-stakes missions. We pulled out all the stops for this drama, with the powerhouse cast training in martial arts, tactical combat and war games to properly portray the relevant expertise on screen – set against breathtaking shooting locations around Italy, Japan and of course, picturesque Philippines.

SAVING GRACE, our adaptation of Nippon TV’s Mother; launched on Prime Video months before TV release, the drama explores the complexities of motherhood when a school teacher whisks away an abused student in an effort to save her. Our version emphasizes strong familial and community ties central to Filipino culture. As a result, a rich, cross-cultural viewing experience awaits our international audiences. The special 14-episode edit exclusive to the platform also topped the charts.

Our newest co-prod. with Viu, HOW TO SPOT A RED FLAG, just ended its run this February. The romcom follows a spunky barista torn between a quirky nice guy and a confident bad boy who are both catfishing her. Marking the two companies’ 2nd project together, the series touches on youth-oriented insights into topics like the “talking stage” and “ghosting”, while tackling real lessons on cheating and how genuine relationships blossom.

Supernatural horror feature film project HYSTERIA, winner of the ATF x EST N8 Horror Pitch 2024 in Singapore, tells the story of a self-righteous priest seeking to end a wave of demonic possessions in a town trapped in its own contradictory beliefs, only to uncover a dark past and his own role in the dreadful phenomenon. We are currently looking for co-producers for this latest IP.

We are thrilled about what’s ahead for 2025, with a dynamic slate of launches across Asia. Highlights include The Traitors, with local adaptations coming soon in both India and Mongolia and with further territories to be announced. We’re also excited to bring Silverback’s premium natural history series Parenthood, narrated by Sir David Attenborough, to audiences across APAC on multiple platforms and networks. And finally, from the award-winning Two Brothers Pictures comes The Assassin, a gripping new action thriller packed with heart and humour. Keeley Hawes stars as a retired female hitwoman about who finds herself on the run from her past with her estranged son, played by Freddie Highmore.

Trends & Outlook in the next 12 months

First, generative AI and hyper-personalisation will be leveraged on more by platforms to tailor experiences, enabling more dynamic and responsive storytelling. This will not only enhance viewer satisfaction but also open new avenues for data-driven monetisation. Sports remains one of the genres that consistently delivers real-time audience attention but will be the focus of fewer platforms given the costs as well as expertise to deliver that best-in-class experience. Third, we foresee a surge in on-ground experiences that are both un-piratable and monetisable – meet-and-greet events with K-stars, concerts, and fan activations and extensions of big hits eg Netfliux’s K-pop Demon Hunters Sing Along in cinemas. These formats offer unique value propositions for both audiences and brands.”

Agnes Rozario, Chief Content Officer, Astro

Genres

Our content strategy is anchored in a 360-degree content approach, ensuring that every title is designed to thrive across multiple platforms – film, TV, OTT, social media, and immersive unpirateable on-ground experiences. This multi-platform mindset allows us to deepen audience engagement while unlocking diverse monetisation opportunities. Astro produces a wide range of genres including TV shows, films, sports, kids programming, animation, travel, live music competitions, and talent search formats. This genre diversity enables us to cater to different audience segments while maintaining creative and commercial agility.

Original production/co-production

Co-productions have worked well in the film space enabling us both domestic and regional exposure for our films and well as strong support from sponsors. We place strong emphasis on original productions, with standout titles such as Aadhira, First Wives, and Big Stage Alpha, a boyband/talent discovery format that has already produced two music hits and built a loyal fanbase. We actively produce and co-produce across film, drama and non-scripted formats, including live shows. Our collaborations with clients and partners often involve developing creative solutions tailored to their audience and brand objectives.

Asia

focus in 2026

Looking ahead to 2026, our primary focus in Asia will be guided by relevance and audience behaviour. We aim to champion local IPs and stories that extend beyond Malaysia, unlocking better monetisation and distribution opportunities with regional partners. Live original formats will remain a core offering, while we continue building a pipeline of digital and social-first content designed for engagement and monetisation.”

Half Man will be the iconic scripted show to watch out for in 2025. It is a six-episode drama series from the multi award-winning Richard Gadd (Baby Reindeer, Against the Law), who stars alongside BAFTA award-winning actor Jamie Bell (All of Us Strangers, Rocket Man) with the pair playing estranged brothers. The series is produced by Mam Tor Productions (a Banijay UK company) for the BBC and BBC Scotland in co-production with HBO.

Our factual slate is led by Tribe with Bruce Parry, in which TV, filmmaker and indigenous rights advocate Bruce Parry returns to TV after more than a decade. In this new three part series, he travels to visit extraordinary communities, diving deep into their traditional ways of life – including a rare glimpse of the world’s last megalithic culture, The Sumba in Indonesia. The series is produced by Frank Films for BBC Two and BBC iPlayer.

In our format slate, AI Love You – created and produced by Banijay Nordic label Nordisk Film TV, Denmark for TV 2, seamlessly integrates the much talked about AI tech in a deeply emotional human scenario via a life affirming social experiment.

Trends & Outlook 2025

In 2025, we will witness media businesses looking at hybrid models to explore additional revenue streams. Shorter holdback windows for second screen rights will become the norm with key TV shows coming onto a third-party digital platform within hours of premier broadcasting. There is no doubt that there will be an increase in adopting AI across productions which will form an integral part of new format innovations.

Trends & Outlook 2025

2024 was a turbulent year for the TV industry, and it will be no surprise to see the same in 2025 with potentially more M&A and over-supply of content due to fewer buyers. We may see more co-productions as producers are de-risking investment by sharing rights among partners in different regions. Additional consolidation in the streaming sector is also possible, as the number of SVOD services in each country is expected to peak with some trying to stay afloat.”

Asia focus in 2025

To address all those challenges, we have already expanded into scripted format licensing last year. In addition to formats, we own, we helped broker 3rd party format for our Chinese producers. Our company is also taking a lead in a tripartite co-production that involves partners from Europe and Asia on a new scripted project. We value the importance of our traditional distribution business, but we also see the importance of diversification so we will be creative and innovative, not just in production, but how we operate our business in Asia.”

Trends & Outlook

In 2025, I anticipate three transformative trends shaping the Asian media landscape. First, international co-productions will gain momentum, fostering innovative cross-cultural storytelling and expanding market reach. Second, strategic intellectual property ownership will be paramount as content becomes an increasingly valuable asset, ensuring sustainable competitive advantages. Finally, the rapid evolution of artificial intelligence is revolutionizing content creation – driving the rise of vertical, mobile-first formats and further solidifying the trend toward short-form content, which has already made significant inroads this year.

Starring Jakob Oftebro, this sweeping drama spans the 1970s and 80s, beginning in New York and charting the rise of a visionary who reshaped media and telecoms – real-life Succession meets Wolf of Wall Street.

Trends & Outlook 2026

Asia’s media landscape will be shaped by accelerating cordcutting - with tens of millions of subscribers expected to transition away from linear pay TV, alongside the rise of operator-led streaming bundles. Buyers are increasingly focused on adaptable IP, coproduction opportunities, and format sales that balance risk with creative ambition. Distinctive, character driven storytelling remains in demand, while consolidation, aggregation, and smarter deal structures will define the next phase of growth, creating new opportunities for collaboration across the region.”

TRENDS & OUTLOOK 2026 “Over the next year, Asia’s content landscape will be shaped less by individual formats and more by how projects are structured and financed. Crossborder co-productions are requiring clearer creative alignment earlier in the process, while tighter timelines and margin pressure are forcing producers to rethink scale, speed and consistency. These conditions are also accelerating more disciplined use of technology – particularly virtual production and AI – not to replace creativity, but to reduce friction and risk across production and post.”

ASIA FOCUS IN 2026 “Our primary focus is a dual-track expansion, scaling our premium internal coproduction slate while leading a dedicated push into the micro drama space. We are not just testing the waters, we are leveraging our unscripted and scripted expertise to define the premium standard for short form storytelling. This allows us to capture the full spectrum of viewership, from cinematic streamers to mobile first audiences.”

CREATIVE/TECHNICAL INNOVATION IN 2026 “We’re most interested in how virtual production and AI can shift decision-making earlier – helping creative teams resolve look, scale, and world-building before productions become costly to change. The impact isn’t just visual; it’s organisational. Earlier clarity leads to smoother shoots, fewer late adjustments, and more predictable post-production, which is increasingly critical in a fast-moving, multimarket production environment.”

Infocomm Media Development Authority (fixed line / broadband / wireless / mobile in June 2025)

If it didn’t already have 1001+ suit ors lining up for production funding, Singapore ended 2025 with an other S$200 million/approx US$155 million in government backing, locking in its status as the likely belle of the content ball for 2026. All that’s missing are the details, scheduled to be released in the first quarter of 2026.

So what’s the big plan for Singapore as far as we currently know?

The Talent Accelerator Programme (TAP), launched by government agency the Infocomm Media Development Au thority (IMDA) in December 2025, aims to establish Singapore as a co production hub in the region and, among other ob jectives, to “build a more resilient media industry”.

This ambition is layered on top of the made with Singapore initiative, which puts Singapore companies in a clear partnership role.

A key element of the new purse is a dedicated in house IMDA marketing team with a marketing fund “structured for select projects to increase visibility”, and, critically, distribution. IMDA men tioned “global distribution” in its an nouncement, which is ambitious but no harm in aiming high. We think boxes will be ticked and backs patted if regional distribution beyond natural partners in Malaysia is achieved.

Industry opinion is that the IMDA is

increasingly focused on commercially successful projects, so more marketing money and a focus on distribution seems consistent with that direction.

The choice of projects will ultimately prove – or disprove – the perception that IMDA is leaning harder into commercially successful content. Will there be criti cism that indie, art house or culturally significant projects are being sidelined? Probably. But in terms of serving diverse communities, that argument doesn’t hold: Singapore already has substantial public service broadcast funding. As for art house risk taking, much as we value it, this may simply not be the moment. Right now, the strategic priority appears to be scale, reach and sustainability.

Either way, we’re not hearing voices raised against the comments by Singa pore’s Senior Minister of State for Digital Development and Information & Ministry of Health (MOH), Tan Kiat How, in his an nouncement: “In a fast changing media landscape where audiences have more choices and AI is disrupting how content is produced, the Government is com mitted to support our sector and profes sionals adapt and remain relevant and competitive”.

For all that’s still unknown and for every past disappointment that may be tem pering excessive optimism, the “we’ve got your back” messaging is landing well. Now for the details...

Singtel TV

Singapore telco Singtel launched its digi tal pay TV platform Singtel TV (formerly Mio TV) in July 2007. The IPTV service de livers linear TV and on demand content via fibre broadband and set top boxes, together with mobile and streaming ac cess. TV packs cost from S$9.98/US$7.70 a month for the Entertainment pack (over 15 channels) to S$30.98/US$23.90 a month for the Chinese pack (over 25 channels). Singtel also operates stand alone CAST video aggregator app and marketplace. The telco provides mobile services to approximately 4.54 million mobile customers and about 700,000 domestic fixed broadband households (March 2025).

StarHub TV+

StarHub (launched as a cable platform in 2000) offers one of Singapore’s oldest subscription TV platforms as part of an integrated telco business led by mobile and broadband, with entertainment a small and shrinking component. The traditional cable TV offering has evolved into a hybrid entertainment proposition combining local and international lin ear channels, on demand content and streaming apps with flexible subscription pricing and bundles. StarHub tied up with Mediacorp in October 2025 in what

it calls a “structural partnership” that enables a combined offering. StarHub says this increases reach for content and advertising. This approach reflects StarHub’s broader positioning as a con verged operator, using TV as part of multi play bundles that include broad band and mobile services. StarHub TV+ packs starts from S$5.08/US$3.90 a month (Starter+ pass) to S$30.56/US$23.60 a month (Entertainment+ or Asian+ pass, 24‑month contract). Set top box rentals cost from S$6.00/US$4.60 a month. Star Hub has fewer than 300,000 entertain ment subscribers.

Streaming/OTT

Singapore consumers have access to a broad range of regional and international streaming and online platforms, from NBCUniversal's reality platform Hayu (S$4.99/US$3.90 a month) and Taiwan's Catchplay+ (approx S$10.98/US$14.20) to mobile services offered by the country's two telcos.

Prime Video

Amazon rolled out Prime Video globally at the end of 2016, with its focus in Asia on Japan and India and a broad range of acquisitions from across the region. For example, Studio Dragon drama Siren's Kiss, which Prime Video will air globally from 2 March 2026 in a simultaneous release with Korea's tvN; and Dreamscape Entertainment/ABS CBN Studio’s psychological thriller, The Alibi, which was the top show in the Philippines during its domestic premiere on 7 November 2025. Monthly Prime membership currently costs S$4.99/US$3.90, with a 30 day free trial.

Apple TV+

Apple TV+ launched in Singapore in November 2019 and is available for S$13.98/US$10.80 a month.

CAST.SG

Telco Singtel launched standalone app, Cast, in July 2016, aggregating on demand content and linear channels. The platform also now operates as a digital marketplace

for third party streaming services, including Celestial Tiger Entertainment's CMGO, TVBAnywhere+ VOD Zone, Viu Premium, ZEE5 and iQiyi. Subscription pricing depend on app purchases, with discounts for multiple services.

Disney+

Disney+ launched in Singapore in February 2021. Rates start at S$18.98/ US$14.70 a month.

iQiyi

Mainland Chinese streamer iQiyi offers Chinese, Korean, Southeast Asian, anime, variety and movie content. The service is available in Singapore as a standalone OTT service (or via add on to some telco bundles). A typical subscription in Singapore for the Standard VIP plan costs around S$8.98/ US$6.90 per month.

Max

Warner Bros Discovery launched Max in Singapore in November 2024, replacing the legacy HBO‑branded streaming service. The monthly subscription starts at S$14.48/US$11.20 a month for Standard plan, and some telco‑bundled add‑on offers (e.g. via StarHub) allow access at S$9.00/US$7.00 a month under certain 24‑month contracts.

meWatch

Mediacorp debuted online streamer meWatch (formerly Toggle) in Feb 2013. The service provides free access to a wide selection of Mediacorp content, from local dramas, entertainment, news, live and catch‑up of free‑to‑air channels (for Singapore viewers), plus on‑demand access to regional and imported content where licensing allows. Extra features such as ad‑free streaming, early access to shows, and offline downloads, are part of the paid meWatch Prime tier for S$9.90/US$7.60 a month. meWatch also acts as a video marketplace for third party video services and has a subscription partnership with StarHub.

Netflix

Netflix launched in Singapore in Jan 2016 as part of the U.S. streaming platform’s global rollout. Monthly subscriptions start at S$15.98/US$12.30 for the basic plan.

TVB Anywhere+

TVB Hong Kong launched mobile streaming platform TVBAnywhere+ in Singapore in October 2018, offering classic and recent TVB programmes. TVBAnywhere+ is available standalone as well as in telco bundles. The standard paid plan (VOD Zone/Premium) costs S$7.98/US$6.20 a month.

Viddsee

Launched in Singapore in 2013, Viddsee offers a range of original content – primarily short‑form films – across Southeast Asia, covering all genres, including animation and documentaries.

Viu

Hong Kong telco PCCW’s regional streaming service, Viu launched in Singapore in January 2016 and continues to focus on Korean drama, some of which is offered within eight hours of the Korean transmission, along with titles from Japan, mainland China, Hong Kong, Indonesia and Taiwan. Viu has made significant bets on global rights (ex Korea/China) to series such as Korean drama, Taxi Driver and, before that, Reborn Rich. The platform offers a freemium model; and a paid Viu Premium tier costs about S$8.98/US$6.90 per month.
