Bammann Stained Glass LLC Provides Stunning Custom Stained Glass Designs

A

fter building stained glass works of art as a hobby for 30 years, Joe Bammann and his wife, Colleen started his “official” stained glass business in May 2013 called Bammann Stained Glass LLC. Since then, many beautiful windows and stained glass art have been created, both large and small.

Joe explains what he does in a simple way. “I create works of art, made from glass, solder and lead, designed by the clients with my help.” He continues, “Stained glass is very personal. If you’re thinking about having a piece built, take your time and work with the designer because you’re creating something that will be around for 200 years.”

Having worked in the graphic arts industry for 25 years, Joe has learned design, color and attention to detail. Most of his clients are homeowners that have always admired stained glass or had one in a previous house, but didn’t know how to go about getting one for their new home.

Joe tries to explain and simplify the process by showing his prospective clients styles, glass textures and color combinations. He wants his clients to be part of the process.

Colleen assists in balance, composition, and design since she is an art quilter. She also assists with installing the windows in the customer’s home.

Joe tries to keep his business as local as possible but he will build a stained glass for any location. He’s sent windows to other states and even one to Switzerland.

When Joe see’s the look on the customers’ faces for the first time when they see their finished window in their home, it’s rewarding and a reminder of why he does what he does. It hasn’t always been this way. After initially exploring, discovering and learning how to do stained glass during a long, enduring winter in Illinois, the stained glass passion remained a hobby for many years. After working for IBM for 16 years and taking early retirement in 2011, he found that jobs for a man in his 50s were few and far between. After 6 months of being “retired,” Joe had a stroke. He declares, “After a lot of therapy and the Grace of God, I recovered.”

That’s when he decided that life is too short to postpone one’s passions and began pursuing his love for stained glass.

Survival of the Fittest...Is It?

A

fter reading several articles on surviving different types of scenarios, I don’t believe it is survival of the fittest but more likely survival based on preparedness.

Whether it be a bear attack or falling out of a raft in white water, the steps to survival are basically the same; Don’t panic, always start with the proper equipment, don’t fight but rather go with it...always stay calm.

My cousin, Carma, went on a white water rafting trip and she said she was scared out of her wits. But with lots of prayer, she climbed into the raft and bobbed in the water until they shoved off. Fearful and tense, she forced herself to remember the directions of her guide.

One thing he had promised the rafters was that if they listened to him and did as he said, he would bring them home safe; not necessarily dry but safe. She said, “Our guide made me want to do it again. He gave me directions, I logged the info and remembered it when I needed to and I trusted him.”

Then she proceeded to say, “Kel, it’s the same with our lives. If we would just listen to our Guide, God the Father, and trust Him. He promises to get us home safely, not necessarily dry but safe. Every time we crashed through white water, I got very wet, drenched in fact,” she said.

“It reminded me of when my mom was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. It nearly drowned me with sorrow,” Carma said, “like the white water trying to throw me

into the raging river. In both instances, I held on to what I knew to be true.”

Most of us fight life. We can’t seem to accept providence. That’s what I did for about three years. I fought, kicking and screaming. And life only got harder. The louder I screamed the harder it was to hear the directions of my Guide. I flailed. Like a person drowning, I fought my Rescuer and it nearly got me killed in the process.

They say if you fight a bear, it will fight you back. If you play dead, its tendency is to leave you for dead. If you fall out of the raft in white water, you are to relax, lay on your back and float down river feet first. If you thrash around you are more likely to smash your head into a rock.

Staying calm in the midst of tragedy is more easily accomplished if you have someone holding your hand and telling you it’s going to be okay. There is a tranquility that overcomes you when you know, with all your heart, that you are not alone and that you have an ally who does have your back.

Isn’t that what most of us want...to be taken care of and loved and to know we are never alone? When you ask Jesus to be in your life, that’s what you get, someone who is there through thick and thin. He’s there when you are great and when you are notso-nice to be around too. He’s the one who whispers in your ear, “Stay calm, I’m right here.” When you forget what to do in a bad situation, He reminds you.

Jesus gives you the ability to be in the middle of a horrific situation and know that, in the end, it’s all going to turn out,

not necessarily perfect, but it will turn out. There is peace in that knowledge and acceptance.

I’ve shared how my faith waivered for several years because of two of my four children dying. I quit turning to God in my struggles. I trusted Him less and less. Then I turned my back on Him, almost completely. I say almost because despite my failings and flailing, out of the corner of my eye, I happened to see His outstretched arm offering to help me up.

And He helped me back to Him...when I needed Him most.

It’s hard to believe that God would do that, take me back, after all I did to Him and against Him. But that’s who my God is...a loving God. Yes, He has rules (the Bible) I need to follow, for my own good.

Yes, He punishes too; but the punishment I’ve experienced thus far is nothing compared to what I deserve. That is God’s merciful love through Jesus Christ.

I am here today struggling with yet another anniversary of the death of Alisha, my nine-year-old daughter. August 7, marked twenty-six years since she died, twenty-six years since I held her hand and stroked the soft skin of her cheek. Tears stream down my face as memories wash over me. The tears are from both sorrow and thankfulness. While I miss her with every part of my being, I do know she is with her brother and they are in Heaven with our Redeemer. I also know, I will see them again.

That is a confidence that can only come by being prepared.

Their 22 year-old Joey just returned from a 2 month mission trip to Ethiopia, where he was blessed to be able to spend time with children and share the Word of God. Their 15 year old son Grant is a sophomore at Monarch HS and their 2 1/2 year old daughter Kellie is at home with them.

One of Tessie’s most memorable experiences was when she and Dave were able to help a client after an accident and help him navigate the claims process so that he could have peace of mind that someone was there for him in his time of need. When asked what Tessie and Dave love most about the business, she responded, “That moment when we know we have really helped someone out and made a friend for life.”

students gear up to get back to school, you can image the overload of feelings and emotions teens will experience; feelings of anxiety, excitement, even confusion. The transition from middle to high school can be an overwhelming yet important experience in life.

If you’ve got a teen entering high school for the first time, you’ve got about three weeks to help them mentally prepare, and hopefully reduce some of their anxiety or even fear. Here are some great ways to help them cross the threshold to the high school experience.

Ask them how they feel about entering high school. Ask open ended questions instead of ones that can be answered by just a simple “yes” or “no.” This doesn’t have to be a big family meeting; some parents say they have their best conversations with their teens while driving in the car.

Remind them they aren’t alone with their concerns or feelings. There are hundreds of teens experiencing the same kinds of feelings.

Encourage them to make new friends that share their interests. After all, what they are interested in during middle school may not be the same in high school. It’s great to keep old friends, but it’s also exciting to make new ones. Ask them to share the characteristics they value in a friend.

Ask what classes they are excited about, and which ones concern them. You might suggest that they do a little research about new subjects online, before school starts.

Remind them that the pressures of high school are different than middle school. They will have more homework, and their grades will have a big impact on their future. Remind them to write down deadlines and homework assignments in a planner or create reminders in their phone or other electronic device to assist with time management and organization.

Encourage them to check out the school website and look at all of the opportunities to get involved with clubs or campus organizations. Since high school populations are generally much larger than middle school, clubs are a great way to feel connected and meet people.

As the preparation for high school begins, it might be a good idea to get your teen on a school schedule or timetable before the first day of school. Have them go to bed and get up earlier so it won’t be such a disruption in routine when school starts. Last but not least, don’t forget to encourage healthy nutrition; breakfast truly is the most important meal of the day!

Find the Best Agent to Sell Your House

W

orking with the right real estate agent can mean the difference between getting prompt, expert representation and feeling like you’re going it alone when selling your home.

Here are 9 questions to ask when you’re interviewing agents.

1. How long have you been selling homes? Mastering real estate requires on-the-job experience. The more experience agents have, the more likely they’ll be able to handle any curveballs thrown during your home sale.

2. Is this area your primary market? Agents who are familiar with your community will likely have many local connections and be familiar with schools and amenities for the area.

3. How many homes did you sell last year? Agents may tout their company’s success. An equally important question is how many homes they’ve personally sold in the past year; it’s an indicator of how active and aggressive they are.

4. How many days on average did it take you to sell homes? Ask agents to show you this data along with stats from their local Multiple Listing Service (MLS).

5. How close were the asking and sales prices of the homes you sold?

Sometimes sellers choose their agent because the agent’s suggested listing price is higher than those suggested by other agents. A better factor is the difference between listing prices and the amount homes actually sold for.

That can help you judge agents’ skill at accurately pricing homes and marketing to the right buyers. It can also help you weed out agents trying to dazzle you with a lofty sales price just to get your listing.

6. How will you market my home?

Look for an agent who provides you with a detailed marketing plan. That plan should include aggressive and innovative marketing, especially on the Internet.

7. How will you keep me informed? If you want weekly updates by email, don’t choose an agent who plans to contact you only if there’s an offer.

8. Can you provide references?

Ask to talk to the agents’ past customers.

Ask if they’d work with the agent again and if the agent did anything that didn’t sit well with them.

Erie’s Lafayette Import Car Care – 36 Years of Satisfying Clients

teve Harriger has been providing area residents with value-priced, dependable, quality auto and truck care for 36 years. Steve had been the manager of a VW repair shop in Denver for five years when he decided it was time to look for a shop of his own. In 1980, Steve bought an existing business in Lafayette and at the advice of his attorney, adjusted the name slightly to Lafayette Import Car Care Inc. The repair shop was there for 20 years when Steve purchased his own building in Erie and became his own landlord in 2000.

The business, located at 1027 Telleen Ave, Erie, was on the outskirts of town. County Line Road was paved and Telleen was a dirt road that ended at the storage units.

Most neighborhoods had not been built.

To entice his customer base to make the journey to Erie, he offered oil changes for $9.95 as a grand opening special. He pumped 300 gallons of oil that month!

Functional Fitness - Training For Life

F

unctional fitness is a type of exercise program that mimics some of the movements in activities of daily life. It focuses on core strength, balance, coordination, adaptability, endurance, joint flexibility, and overall body strength so you can perform your daily activities without injury, pain, or discomfort.

You need to train for your role in life, whether that involves safely picking up your child, climbing stairs, putting groceries in your car or cupboards, playing a sport, exploring the outdoors, or keeping your spine strong and stable while you sit at your desk and work.

In real life you don’t do an activity in a single plane of motion (as if you were standing doing just a bicep curl). The real world is dynamic and always changing.

There are awkward angles, the ground can be uneven, things shift weight, possibly causing improper form and slight compromises; and this is where injury will likely occur.

To remedy this, functional fitness focuses on multi-joint and multi-plane activities as you rotate your body, twisting and reaching just like with every day activities. It uses multiple muscle

groups in an integrated way. These type of workouts challenge your body to work as a whole, firing multiple muscle groups at a time. With the integration of more muscles into your workout, functional fitness can be a great alternative for those trying to lose weight because you’ll burn more calories and build muscle using more muscle groups.

Join us at my ladies only group exercise classes and mobile personal training sessions at Time For Change Personal Training and Fitness Group, where I incorporate functional fitness techniques into every workout by working with whole body moves, not just one muscle group at a time.

Your challenge this month is to get outside of your comfort zone and expand your fitness horizons by participating is functional fitness. As an example, in addition to my regular fitness classes and sessions mentioned above, my fitness group recently did a workout at Red Rocks Amphitheater and we’ve also done group races together. Try renting a stand up paddle board (I try to go SUP boarding once per week in addition to workouts), or enjoy hiking in our Rocky Mountains. So try something new, you’ll be amazed that you really can do it!
