I’m Don Conyac. I’m running for Mayor of Firestone.

I’d appreciate your vote on April 2.

I’m presently serving my sixth year as trustee on Firestone Town Board. I was born in Boulder and raised in Longmont. I have been married to my soul mate and best friend, Jennifer for 37 years and we have 2 adult children and 2 grandchildren plus a beautiful Golden Retriever named Faith. My wife was born and raised in Dacono. We moved to Firestone 10 years ago. Additionally, I am a retired firefighter having served as a Lieutenant for 37 years at Rocky Flats and Boulder. My wife and I are two of the original and active founders of The St. Vrain Christmas Walk that’s become a tradition in the Carbon Valley.

I’m running for mayor of Firestone because I believe I can bring a different perspective to the position. The last few years there’s been much division created on social media outlets regarding numerous issues about how the town was being governed. I believe that much of this division could have easily been alleviated if there had been prompt communication from the mayor’s office.

My platform for my campaign is “LET’S PUT THE UNITY BACK IN COMMUNITY.”

I will change the way the mayor’s office communicates with the Town manager,

Staff, and most importantly, Firestone citizens. As a citizen you should hear from the mayor at a bare minimum once a month. I promise it will be more than that. I will implement “Park Parties” hosted by the town, designed to go to each of the subdivision parks so that you, the residents can talk face-toface with the mayor and trustees, in a nonformal setting where true dialog can take place. I’ve thought of adding a “Mayor’s Perspective in the monthly water bill or the possibility of bringing the newsletter, “Firestone Voice” back, with added emphasis on what is going on at town hall.

MY PLATFORM PILLARS CONSIST OF: COMMUNITY, COMMUNICATION, SMART GROWTH, CENTRAL PARK, RETAIL BUSINESSES AND SAFETY SERVICES. Each pillar is directly related to putting the UNITY back into community. We have worked tirelessly to implement these plans, ensuring that every step we take is in alignment with our goals and most importantly, your voice. Whether it’s enhancing our parks and recreational facilities, supporting local businesses, or fostering a sense of belonging among all residents, our actions have always been guided by our commitment to building a community that thrives and supports your quality of life.

I am deeply honored to be running

unopposed for re-election as Mayor of the Town of Frederick in April. I thank you for your confidence in my leadership and knowledge that I will always put Frederick first. I am humbled by your trust and support and pledge to continue serving you with the same dedication and integrity that I have demonstrated over the past four years.

I am profoundly grateful to every resident who has shared their love for our community with me. Your passion, your commitment, and your willingness to roll up your sleeves and get involved are what make Frederick truly special.

Your Vote Makes A Difference When I cast my vote for town leadership and the person is elected, I have placed my trust in that person to do the work of the town in a diligent and responsible manner. I have done my homework and voted for those whom I feel share the same core values and goals that I hold dear. I don’t feel that I need to second guess them as they represent me.

As Firestone and other local communities grows, so does its needs.

Here are some items the Firestone town staff will be addressing: (1) Request SVVSD build more schools. (Firestone doesn’t choose the schools, but coordinates with the district) (2) Internet service (3) Water (4) Transportation (5) Affordable housing (6) New businesses As these issues come before us, we as John Q. Public need to get involved. We can make a difference by volunteering to serve on a committee and casting our vote in the upcoming election. Firestone has 11,000 registered voters. Only 1,980 voted in the last election. That’s 18% of registered voters who cared enough about their community to take time to vote. Many

voices in Firestone remain silent. But each one of us can make a difference by voting.

There has already been a fair amount of mudslinging, misinformation and/ or information that has been taken out of context by those who want nothing more than to stall the growth of Firestone.

Spreading misinformation is the only solution the nay-sayers can conger up to try and fire our Town Manager. They often identify problems the town faces, but offer no solutions. I challenge all registered voters in Firestone to become equipped with the facts and ignore “facts” quoted out of context by misguided residents who are trying to promote their personal agendas that will ultimately lead to poor governing for the town of Firestone. A true representative does not have a personal agenda. Everyone who votes should garner the facts on the issues. We don’t need to allow ourselves to join those who have a bad case of “baby bird syndrome”- where baby birds eat whatever mama bird feeds them, but do some research and don’t succumb to more fiction than fact. Truth takes effort; lies take the easy path. Failing to vote is to allow Firestone to be governed without our voices being heard.

He ended his newscasts with the same statement every night: “and that America is the rest of the story.” Paul Harvey adhered to a code of ethics; a guiding set of principles intended to instruct individuals in a manner that aligns with personal values and becomes beneficial to everyone we encounter.

Think of it as principles that guide our behavior toward making the best choices that contribute in the common good of everyone. Ethics is what guides us to tell the truth, keep our promises and help those in need.

The naysayers are anti- growth.

Smart growth is necessary to pay for and enable the services to benefit the resident’s needs and desires. To find answers to our questions we only need to go to the scheduled debates and read each candidate’s qualifications and platform on the web sites listed elsewhere in this election edition of the CVCR. That’s where we can find ‘the rest of the story.’

The finalized design encompasses an expansive 11,000+ square foot building featuring a full-sized cross-court gymnasium, a versatile multipurpose room, storage space, a reception area, staff offices, and restrooms. Site development plans include paving the alley, installing curbs and sidewalks, creating outdoor spaces, and establishing a parking lot.

Our overarching objective is to maximize the use of the community space, providing a platform for additional services and programs that cater to the community’s diverse needs.  Public Safety: The Mead Police Department is committed to advancing its community policing initiatives to address the evolving needs of the town. To adequately equip the department for future operations, Mead residents were invited to participate in a brief survey. This survey aims to deepen the department’s insights into its connections with the community and improve residents’ understanding of police procedures. Community input is crucial for building a robust, well-informed relationship between residents and law enforcement.

The 3 Lies of Fitness

Health, general wellness, and fitness are topics that I love to talk about. Staying fit or getting fit is generally a top focus for most people. Getting and staying fit is hard enough already but when you factor in the lies we are told it’s even harder. I want to tell you about what I think are 3 key myths of fitness that we are so sadly told as “truth”.

Lie # 1 – The scale indicates your fitness. The scale is not THE indicator of your fitness! You can’t look and someone, skinny or not, and assume they are or are not healthy and fit! The number on the scale is only a partial indicator of fitness.

The scale doesn’t take into account your body composition. Body composition accounts for the underlying components of your weight: how much of your body is fat, how much is muscle tissue, and how much is bone, water, hair, and the like.

As you gain fitness, you may find you weigh more, and yet you feel better in your clothes! When your diet and exercise are in order, muscle begins to replace fat, and your density increases, leading to a higher scale weight despite improved biomarkers and smaller body measurements. So, ditch the scale and focus on how you feel and your body composition.

Lie #2 – You can gain fitness with comfortable workouts. Doing the same “easy” movement day in and day out will not gain you fitness. Don’t get me wrong, any kind of movement is good for you but in terms of fitness and health, you need to “stress” your body.

To improve your fitness, you need to work at it. You must run faster, lift more, and demand more work in less time than before. Your body adapts to what you do – and the more physical demand you put on your body, the better physical adaptation you will get. The bottom line, you need to seek discomfort with your workouts.

Lie #3 – A calorie is a calorie so it doesn’t matter what you eat. Yes, the definition of a calorie is the definition of a calorie but a calorie from chicken or broccoli has a fundamentally different hormonal effect in your body than a calorie from ice cream or chips. Or calories from a handful of nuts has a different glucose response than a glass of fruit juice.

We want to consider the three macronutrients – carbohydrates, protein, and fat. We need protein for muscle, carbohydrates for immediate energy, and fat for slowing digestion and increasing satiety.

What we eat does matter when it comes to: the nutrients we need to heal and repair, to have available energy for exercising, and for our body’s ability to recover after that hard workout. I suggest to forget about counting calories and learn to balance your macronutrient intake – make sure to include a good protein, carbohydrate, and fat source at each meal. Simply put, the closer the food is to its natural state the more health benefits our bodies get.

As a Health and Wellness coach, it’s my job to educate my clients on fact from fiction. It can be very complicated but I always try and get back to the basics. When you focus on whole foods and include protein, carbs, and fat at each meal, and you include intensity and diversity into your workout routine then you won’t even need to weigh yourself. You’ll have the energy you need, you’ll gain fitness, and you’ll feel great.

Trent John for Firestone Trustee Colorado native, Trent John grew up in the Arvada area, attending Thornton High school and living south of the Tri-town area most of his life. Trent married and brought his two oldest children to Firestone in 1999. He raised all 5 of his children in Firestone and they graduated from Frederick High School.

Trent’s career focused on industrial wastewater treatment.

He worked his way up in the manufacturing side of that business to eventually became the CEO and President of several companies with a focus on gas and oil production water clean-up. His company had a proprietary technology that made it possible to take that water to ground discharge standards. Because of this, the technology was used around the world in multiple industries, from heavy metal removal and gas and oil production water treatment.

Trent left the water treatment industry in 2012 and went into the construction and building industry. His company has a focus on grade A construction upgrades on farms in northern Colorado and a focus on farmland use improvements. Trent is currently preparing to expand into other areas of real estate and property transactions.

Trent worked for Brigham Young University for 9 years as a professional speaker/ teacher for their summer youth program, traveling the country to several university campuses, and working with 200,000 youth and world-renowned speakers and teachers.

Re-Elect Mark Lamach for Frederick Trustee Hello Frederick Family, this is Frederick Trustee Mark Lamach. I am happy to announce my candidacy for re-election as a Frederick Trustee in the upcoming election. Representing the town and you, the residents the last four years as a Trustee, has been an honor and privilege.

My wife, Rhonda and I are life-long Colorado residents and have lived in Frederick since 2014, when we moved here to spend time with our two granddaughters.

I continue to be involved in helping coach their softball teams and volunteering at a local elementary school on a weekly basis. I am retired, with over forty years of experience in management, including increasing responsibilities at store level management and Division level management. I have an MBA, with an emphasis on Human Resources, from Regis University where I was an affiliate faculty member.

During the previous three and a half years of my term as a Trustee, I have focused on helping this rapidly growing community of 16,000 residents plan for continued growth, both short and long term, through the following actions: • Helped Develop a Strategic Plan that guides the Board of Trustees and Town Staff in making decisions that are best for the town, • Worked on helping to update Land Use Codes, while acting as a Board liaison to the Parks, Recreation, Open Space and Trails Commission (PROST), • Worked to update the Comprehensive Plan and Transportation Master plan, • Supported and encouraged the growth and development of businesses such as Agilent Technologies, Toro Robotics, Hirsh Precision Engineering and King Soopers, which will continue to attract more businesses and jobs to the community, • I have made efforts to communicate with residents by attending the Community Tour and Talks, participated in Town sponsored events such as Frederick in Flight, Miners Day, Chainsaws and Chuckwagons and Festival of Lights, • Streamlining processes making it easier for the community to do business with the town using the town app.

• Supported Ballot issue 2C, allowing Open Space funds on Trails and Parks projects.

Within the last few years, Frederick has been recognized as a community on the move, a safe community, a town where government listens to what the community would like to see (Voice of the People Award), a community Built on What Matters.

• Trent graduated in 1996 from the Denver Business College law enforcement academy. Trent went on to a Denver Metro agency as a reserve police officer. Trent volunteered his time in that position for over 26 years of service. Trent is a certified P.O.S.T firearms instructor. He served the City of Golden police department for over 20 years as a reserve police office. Trent was the only reserve in the history of the program that tested out of the training program to be the only solo reserve officer for the city.

• Trent chaired the American Cancer Society Relay for Life event in the Tri-town area. He started that position, and the committee moved the event from the old Frederick high school to Hart Park in Firestone. Working with Tri-town community and local sponsors the event raised a substantial amount of donations for the American Cancer Society.

• Just a few years ago Trent brought in “The Women of Global Change” to help raise money for the Firestone police department and the area “Santa Cops” organization. They brought in over $15,000 in cash donations with other items being donated. From that experience Trent assisted taking the program to the Las Vegas police department where over $100,000.00 was raised for the LVPD on the idea that started in Firestone with Trent’s leadership.

Vote Lorna Morton for Firestone Trustee My name is Lorna Morton and I am running for Firestone Trustee. When I retired in 2015, my husband and I moved to Firestone. We love living in this beautiful area and are actively involved in the community.

In March of 2022, Firestone celebrated the Neighbors Point Park ribbon cutting. It took four plus years for the park to became reality. Myself, Arlys Carlson and a core group of residents partnered with Town management and the Firestone Board to bring this park to our neighborhood.

During my career of 24 years in Colorado, I was employed by the Colorado School of Mines Foundation, Johns Manville, Ball Corporation and CoBank. My career covered public accounting, human resources, and management of a wide range of employee benefit plans. I graduated from the University of Wyoming with a Bachelor of Science in Accounting, and was licensed as a CPA in Colorado beginning on November 18, 1992. My license is currently inactive.

If elected, I understand my accountability to the residents of Firestone. I support planned growth, will work to develop Central Park, maintain a balanced approach, focus on fiscal responsibility, and make every effort to leave our community in a better place.

As items are presented to the Board I will listen to the input, become knowledgeable about the issues, seek to understand the pros and cons, and hear the community concerns or support.

I am in favor of identifying ways to develop Central Park without passing tax increases on to homeowners. I believe this approach will make the park a reality.

Firestone is community. Community requires communication to stay aware and informed. Town staff has done a great job providing information to residents that register to receive updates. The Board should look for ways to build on that example of communication to foster more transparency. Communities require a central gathering place, like Central Park, to develop relationships and increase a sense of belonging.

Many families have been in the Carbon Valley area for generations. As our community grows and develops it is important to value and include the past, present and future for all residents of Firestone.

Ray Byrd for Firestone Trustee Hello Firestone community I am excited to announce my candidacy for Trustee of Firestone. I’m proud to be a resident here. I’m originally from Baltimore, Maryland. I relocated to Monument, Colorado in 2014 for work. I then moved to Firestone in 2019 and I quickly fell in love with our town’s small-town charm. In fact, I married my best friend at Barefoot Lakes Peninsula Park in 2023. Our new blended family is made up of 5 wonderful young adults, a Standard Poodle and a Bernedoodle. We all love the parks, trails, and amenities that Firestone has to offer.

So why run for Trustee? Because I have a passion for community service, a proven track record of leadership, and I’m committed to making our town a better place for all. I believe in Balanced Growth and Fiscal Responsibility. I feel strongly about ensuring that we have the right infrastructure to support our growing town and keeping our community safe. Community service is part of my DNA. I currently serve on the Board of Directors for the St. Vrain Metro District (Barefoot Lakes) and the Firestone Finance Committee. I’m also a 4th Degree member of the Knights of Columbus.

Professionally, my background is in Transportation, Fleet Maintenance, and Operations. I worked for PepsiCo for 29 years. I moved here to manage their West Coast Fleet division until my retirement. In October of 2019, I accepted a position as the Vice President of Transportation and Distribution with Pioneer Landscape Centers. I currently serve on the Executive Board of Directors for the Colorado Motor Carrier Association (CMCA) and the National Private Truck Council (NPTC).

I am deeply invested in addressing the pressing issues that matter to Firestone residents. Here are two key areas and more can be found on the social media platforms listed below.

Balanced growth for our community: I’m an ardent supporter of transparency and fiscal responsibility. I will support policies that do not over burden existing residents as we attract new families to our community. I have successfully managed multimilliondollar projects and budgets throughout the United States. I will use that same passion and diligence to pursue economic development for Firestone, while maintaining our small-town feel.

Retail Development: Attracting the right retailers for Firestone involves developing a strategic approach that showcases our Town’s unique strengths, potential customer base, and business-friendly environment. This can be managed through creative tax incentives, zoning policies, and bringing in a diverse array of businesses from fine dining establishments to boutique outlets. Attracting quality retail developers will also spur small business development, support our local economy, and create well paid job opportunities for our residents.

John Damsma - Firestone Trustee Candidate “Who is John DAMSMA? Out of high school, I enlisted in the US Air Force and served attended Calvin College with an emphasis on Psychology thinking one day I’d be a youth counselor. My career, however, was with United Parcel Service as driver and in management. Since retiring, I have worked for a local RV dealership, an oil field logistics company, a sports car company and currently am the commissioner of a small adult baseball league.

I thoroughly enjoy playing baseball too. I have been a resident of the Town of Firestone since 2008. I lived in the Stoneridge community first and then moved to Barefoot Lakes in 2017. My son and two grandkids live in the area and seeing them every now and then is a real treat.

What values and experience does DAMSMA have? Integrity, honesty, transparency in actions and a profound desire to guide our Town with fiscal responsibility and sustainable growth plans. Serving Firestone is in my DNA as I’ve dedicated time and effort by being involved on the Stoneridge HOA Board, the Firestone Parks and Trails Advisory Board, the Board of Trustees, the High Plains Library District Board and currently the Firestone Planning and Zoning Commission.

My experience has led me to: gain wisdom, be compassionate, be accountable, be humble, be a good listener, and have a good understanding of how the Town government works.

Why be a Trustee? Bobby Matthews for Firestone Trustee My wife, Lou, and I have lived in Firestone for 46 years.

Firestone is a great place to live, raise a family and enjoy life. I would like to keep it that way, and that is why I am running for Firestone Trustee. I feel the current Board has lost their way.

I believe in an open government with fiscal responsibility, and open communication with the citizens. If a citizen asks a question, they should get an answer. If you cannot or will not answer it, they at least deserve to know why you cannot or will not answer it, not just to be ignored.

A brief history: After high school I joined the Army and served 7 years. I did two tours in Viet Nam as a Combat Engineer NDCO. My first tour in 1968 I was awarded the Bronze Star medal for valor. My second tour in 1970 I received the Army Commendation medal. After leaving the Army my wife Lou and I moved back to Colorado. I started in power line construction and became a journeyman lineman for Public Service Company of Colorado, now known as Xcel Energy. I attended Community College of Denver, at night studying electronic technology. I found I enjoyed power line construction much more and made that my career. Working in power line construction, I worked my way up to Construction Coordinator, retiring with United Power. After retirement I consulted as a Project Manager with United Power.

Re-elect David Whelan for Firestone Trustee Hello Firestone neighbors! I’m excited to be running this year for the opportunity to continue serving you as a Trustee for the next four years. I have been a Firestone resident since 2011, and my wife since 2000. We have three wonderful children ages fourteen, eleven, and nine. Professionally, my wife is a Spanish teacher and I have been in the financial industry for eighteen years, with the last eleven years dedicated to 401(k) plans.

Being a Firestone Trustee continues my pattern of service to others which is one of my core values. Since 2009, I have been an MP in the Colorado Army National Guard. Since 2017 I have served on the board for the non-profit Brigit’s Bounty Community Resources.

Over the last four years, you and I have faced national and local challenges together that impacted the Town. Through these challenges, I have done my best as a Trustee to provide strategic governance for both the short-term and generational future of Firestone.

The result is that Firestone has continued to grow and thrive and is positioning itself to withstand future challenges.

When I ran in 2020, I stated several overarching objectives I wanted to work on: infrastructure; business growth; affordable housing; water; and development of Central Park. Due to printing space constraints, I have listed just some of the things I have done over the past four years in advancement of those objectives.  Approved the development of the Firestone Master Transportation Plan, design work for the I-25 Frontage Rd/Firestone Blvd intersection and grant funding for Via Transportation to provide free service to qualifying Firestone residents.  Approved Firestone City Centre/City Centre North development agreements.  Personally developed the new annual Friends of Firestone day of service, in partnership with Brother’s Redevelopment.  Approved financing for the St. Vrain Water Treatment plant; added thousands of acre-feet of water storage capacity and ~1,000 acre-feet of water to Firestone’s existing portfolio.  Approved leasing former Town Hall site to CVPRD for the establishment of a new Senior Center.  Approved affordable housing development and established a baseline of affordable housing units in order to receive funding via Proposition 123.  Approved Central Park master plan development.

Looking ahead, I will continue to work on objectives that residents have said are important to them and the quality of life they experience in Firestone. That includes such topics as land development, traffic and infrastructure improvements, accessibility to a variety of business services and recreation, and affordability. I know I can continue to provide strong governance in making decisions about these objectives, which will impact you and my family. It’s a responsibility I take seriously.

My hope is that we can always keep an open dialogue about the Town and work together to find solutions that will benefit our current 19,000 residents and also the future generations who will visit, work and live in Firestone.

Caregiving 101 “This article is entitled “101” because it only scratches the surface of caregiving. There is so much to say around caring for older loved ones and family members, from the caregiver perspective, and the care recipient’s point of view.

Today let’s keep it simple. With an increase in life expectancy in both men and women, the need for care has changed. Caregiving can creep up on people as they gradually see the needs of their loved one increase, or it can hit suddenly with a health crisis or accident.

Family members may start by doing laundry, or bringing over extra meals, or driving their loved one to and from appointments. As needs change, they may find themselves helping out more, and all of a sudden they are a primary caregiver.

Being a primary caregiver brings with it many responsibilities and emotions.

While you see the needs of your loved one increase, you are walking through your own emotions, all while making changes to your own life to ensure that they have their needs met. Sometimes at the sacrifice of your own. We’ll dive into this in a future article.

And then, there’s the dynamics of other family members who may or may not live close. Their need to contribute, or be kept in the loop about conditions and changes can also add stress to the situation.

Let’s take a look at the family caregiver over the next few months, and learn more about ways to better understand the process of caregiving, and best ways to support caregivers.

John Joseph Herman, age 68, of Dacono, Colorado, passed away on Monday, January 8, 2024. His son, John, daughter, Jo, and Ingrid, his beloved partner of 22 years, were at his side.

How does one squeeze 68 years into a short memorial celebration? It can’t be done. But we tried. Memories and life lessons are what we have from John. Some things are small, some things are greater, but altogether, they make up the life of this man. We mourn his passing and we remember his impact on us—those who remain in life’s battle—that will ultimately lead to the day of our own ending.

We’re here to cheer on the living and honor the deceased. Thank you John, for the days you spent with us, and all the memories. Moving forward, let us lift up the words and the conversations that he had with us, which impacted our lives for good. Rest in peace, John Herman, and thank you.

John Herman was an oil field mechanic for K.P. Kauffman Company until he retired. He enjoyed his family, spending time at his cabin, gun shows, car shows, and gambling occasionally.

John was born in Pueblo, CO. A Celebration of Life was February 17, 2024.

Liberta DiSalle Hattel was born October 2nd, 1941, and entered peacefully into rest on December 4th, 2023. She was born to Willie and Gaetana (DiPaolo) DiSalle in Frederick Colorado, and she lived her entire life in Frederick. Liberta was a cheerleader and baton twirler in high school, and she met the love of her life, Michael Hattel while in high school; Liberta and Mike were married in 1960. In July 2023 Liberta and Mike celebrated their 63rd anniversary. Liberta worked for the St Vrain Valley School District as the media clerk for over 35 years. She served on the Town Board of Frederick and was an active member of the Frederick Arts Committee. Liberta was instrumental in creating the Miner’s Memorial Wall and Yearly Celebration. She will be mostly remembered for her amazing cooking and baking skills and sharing her love of food with everyone.

Liberta is survived by her loving husband Mike, and their three sons Michael (Christy) Hattel, Steven Hattel, and William (Ken Hopping) Hattel, and her 5 grandchildren Michael Hattel, James (Lauren) Hattel, Ryan (Gabby) Hattel, Alexis (Jordan) Martinez, Steven Hattel, Jacob (MacKenzie) Hopping, Nathanial (Ashley) Hopping, and her great granddaughter Ivy Hattel, her brother Dan (Barbara) DiSalle and their children. Liberta is also survived by one aunt, Viola (Don) Miller and their children.

Liberta’s love of her family and her friends is known to have had no limits; she will be remembered, by all who have had the privilege of knowing her, for unlimited generosity and unconditional love.

Memorial contributions may be made to the building fund of the St. Theresa’s Catholic Church in Frederick Colorado.

Loving, gentle, funny, sweet, caring, intelligent, artistic, musician are just a few words that describe Adam. Taken from this world too soon. Born in Pennsylvania where he leaves behind many relatives & raised in Frederick, Co. where he touched many lives.

Adam was last employed at King Soopers pharmacy in Firestone, CO. He was struck by a car walking home on the evening of February 13th.

He leaves behind his heartbroken family.

Parents; Rob and Sheri (Anthony) Chilcott; Sibling; Miles Chilcott (Frederick, CO) Grandparents; Richard & Shirley Anthony (PA), Jean Archibald (PA) Bob & Judy Chilcott (WY) and numerous Aunts, Uncles, cousins and friends.

Preceded in death by his father Stephen James Archibald and Grandfather William Archibald.

He will be forever in our hearts and we will miss his larger than life presence. Loved by many. Fly on sweet angel. Until we meet again. Rest in peace.

A celebration of life will be held in the Spring, with more information to come.

In light of the changing real estate market and the economy, some homeowners have been running into problems paying their mortgage. Some lenders have programs for forbearance or deferment of payments. These may help, but typically they just delay payments, which still have to be paid.

Even though the number of foreclosed homes is fairly low right now, some people still face the problem of getting behind in their mortgage payments. With the market being strong the last few years and prices rising, you may have enough equity to sell the house and make up the back payments and get out whatever equity you have. If you don’t have equity, or want to try to stay in the home, a free hotline provides an easy way for those who may be in danger of foreclosure to talk directly with a trained, professional housing counselor. Counselors can offer free assistance in helping homeowners navigate the foreclosure process and can act as a facilitator between homeowners and their mortgage lenders. The Foreclosure Prevention Hotline is 1-877-601-HOPE (4673).

The Foreclosure Hotline is the first of its kind in the United States. It is the first statewide Hotline - tailored specifically to the legal realities of Colorado - and it is the first to connect borrowers with local counselors in communities throughout the state.

The Hotline is the product of a consortium of private-sector and government organizations, including the Colorado Association of Realtors, that have come together to address the high foreclosure rate in Colorado.

The Colorado Foreclosure Hotline connects borrowers with non-profit housing counselors who can provide information on a borrower’s options when facing foreclosure. Counselors can also act as facilitators for communication between lenders and borrowers.

All assistance is provided to homeowners free of charge.

We encourage any borrowers (homeowners) in the following situations to call the hotline: 1) Borrowers who have not yet missed a mortgage payment but are concerned they may miss future payments.

2) Borrowers who are already behind on the payments.

3) Borrowers who have received a notice of foreclosure.

4) Borrowers having trouble communicating with their mortgage lenders.

The hotline, 1-877-601-HOPE (4673), is expected to help at least an estimated 40,000 homeowners in some stage of foreclosure in Colorado by providing about 60 counselors from about 30 different agencies across the country.

There are often more options available than you may think there are, when you are having difficulty with your mortgage payments. Take advantage of this resource to help you get the best information possible.

The 2023 Coordinated election held in November was the first time ballots were printed on paper stock with new security features that go beyond anything in the industry.

The new, more secure ballots incorporate GHOSTmarkTM technology. The paper stock for ballots includes high resolution images that are only visible under special equipment. Weld County Elections staff were able to be a pilot program for the unique security features. Koppes said, “Election confidence needs to be high because voting is the biggest right and privilege that we have.”
