Foster Kids & Families Need Support 30th Annual Pig Roast!

The Board of Weld County Commissioners has partnered with the Weld Faith Partnership Council to support our foster community in Weld County.

Church communities across Weld County have come around foster families to provide respite care services or for a parent’s night out to help with supplies that are needed. Sometimes the support requested by foster parents can be as simple as providing one meal a week. Parents caring for our most vulnerable children appreciate the practical support and help. I’ve heard foster parents express that they’re able to share and show the love of Christ with these children and come around the entire family.

We are looking for faith communities to welcome and support children and families involved in kinship and foster care. If your church family or organization would like to be part of the conversation, please contact me or the chair of the Weld Faith Partnership Council, Pastor Rob Thomas, of Dacono’s New Horizons Christian Church. Your faith community can play a valuable role in changing the experience and outcomes for kids in foster care.

Anyone that has a heart for service can help. The Colorado Kids Belong program also seeks community partners to join the foster-friendly movement. Businesses can show appreciation and support to foster families by offering discounts and services.

Hail Damaged Roof?

Roof insurance claims can be cumbersome to navigate. Homeowners filing claims are often confused by the documentation, inspections and dealing with insurance adjusters. Having an experienced local roofing company on your side who can help document the necessary scope of work and guide you through the claims process will provide you peace of mind.

Understanding Your Deductible: This is the portion of a covered loss that you the insured must pay to the company who replaces your roof. The insurance company subtracts the deductible and issues you the claim check. Be wary of contractors who promise to waive your deductible, this is considered insurance fraud in the state of Colorado.

ACV vs RCV: Do you know what type of homeowners cover you have? Your roof loses value over time due to factors such as age and wear and tear. Just like a vehicle, this loss in value is known as depreciation. If the roof needs to be replaced because of hail, only the current value of the roof is covered by insurance. This type of coverage is known as Actual Cash Value (ACV). A homeowner must come out of pocket for a portion of the roof replacement if they have this type of coverage. Unfortunately, some homeowners unknowingly opt for an ACV policy enticed by lower premium prices.

Full Replacement Cost Value (RCV) generally comes with a higher premium, but in the event of hail damage to your roof, your insurance covers your total roof replacement. Hail storms are common in Colorado, it’s beneficial to have full replacement coverage when it comes to insuring your roof.

Be Wary of Out-of State Roofing Companies: Only work with local and established roofing companies. Any company can say they will warranty their work, but if the company is no longer around to stand behind their work, you’ll have little recourse. Rinn United Methodist Church, established in 1905, is hosting its 30th pig roast from 5:00 to 7:00 pm on June 10th this year. Eating will be outside under a big canopy as other years. If weather is bad it will be moved indoors.

Our classic menu includes pulled pork and beef, baked beans, coleslaw, pasta salad, potato salad, dessert and a beverage. The price for the meal is $14 for adults and $6 for children 5 – 10.

The entertainment this year will be Dean Himes. He is a country singer, songwriter, performer, recording artist and voice over and has played at our pig roast and Cowboy Fellowship many times.

Massive Hail Storm Hits Carbon Valley

On Tuesday, May 9, 2023, a massive hail storm descended upon Longmont, Firestone, Frederick, Erie and the surrounding areas. 2 inch hail caused excessive damage to nearly all of the properties in those areas. When you are deciding which contractors to hire to repair the damage, consider the following guidelines: Whether you are replacing your roof through an insurance claim or paying out of pocket, there are a number of factors you should consider when selecting your roofing contractor. Your roof is a very important component of your home; as it protects, not only your most valuable asset, but also most of your possessions. In order to make the right decision when choosing a contractor; take your time, explore the different material options, ask a lot of questions; and don’t make a decision until it feels right in your gut. The following is a list of items to think about and check off your list before you make an informed decision: GO LOCAL - There are so many experienced, quality contractors right here on the front range, that it seems crazy to work with a company not already licensed in your municipality. I mean, what could possibly go wrong?

READ REVIEWS - Look for a company that consistently pleases their clients enough for them to want to tell others about their experience. Avoid the companies that consistently inspire their clients to warn others about them.

EXPERTISE - Ask lots of questions, and more follow up questions. Does it feel like they know what they are talking about, and are they knowledgeable about the products they use? Do they seem experienced, and ready to handle the “what if’s”?

INSURANCE- Make sure that your contractor is well versed in the process of representing you in the claim process, and will work for you to ensure that all of the damage is properly accounted for.

Many roofing contractors will upgrade you for free to an impact resistant shingle when your roof is fully covered by insurance.

MFG. AND WORKMANSHIP WARRANTIES - Have them explain in detail their warranties.

Manufacturers warranties sometimes vary depending on who does the installation and whether they install a full, like-branded system.

CERTIFICATIONS AND ACCREDITATION - It’s not a bad idea to see who your shingle manufacturer recommends in your area. If the manufacturer gives them a recommendation, it is because they trust them to do it right. Also, most good roofing contractors are members of the BBB and the Colorado Roofing Association.

If you consider these points, you are more likely to end up satisfied with your property repairs,, and have peace of mind regarding the longevity of your home. Remember: Everyone works for you, including the insurance company and the contractor you choose!

Health&WELL BEING Food for the Soul: What Is The Worst Sin?

O f t e n discussed and 1999-2023 much debated is the area of sin. What exactly is it and why so much concern over degrees of defilement from its practice? I’d like to share with you this month the Biblical conclusion on the matter, and you may discuss and debate freely as you wish.

First some definitions: 1.

Sin is that little three-letter word with ‘I’ in the middle.

2.

An immoral act considered to be a transgression against divine law.

3.

Rebellion against God. Some people categorize sins as ‘lesser’ and ‘greater’. Many people disregard sin as simply a bit of religious jargon, having no bearing on life.

For some sin is a riddle that eludes definition and comprehension. Men and women who are serious about enjoying a personal relationship with their Creator are likewise serious about understanding sin and its implications for quality of life now, and in the afterlife.

The Bible reveals the tragedy of sin, because it represents a fall from the high original status of mankind, who were created in God’s image and originally had direct fellowship with Him in the Garden

of Eden, but were tempted to first question God and then to rebel against Him. Sin ultimately involves a raw confrontation between obedience to God or rebellion against Him, and Adam and Eve chose poorly.

Sin involves the refusal of humankind to accept its God-given position between the Creator and the created, and it flows from decisions to reject God’s way. But why would any creature presume to know more or know better than its Creator? That is where the problem of sin has its roots. We choose ‘to be God’ rather than serve Him. Thus the first definition above, where ‘I’ am in the middle and the world revolves around ME. Choosing rebellion rather than obedience only grew worse and worse, until God had to cleanse the world and begin again in an event called the Flood in Genesis 7. Pretty harsh results, you think? Sin always has consequences, because there truly is a God who created us, and He will not be mocked by His creation. Fortunately for us, this Creator-God is long-suffering and patient; otherwise we would all have been toast long ago as were those in ‘round one’ of the story of mankind, when their rebellion so grieved God that He redeemed the only family left on the planet that still followed Him, and allowed them to ‘start over’.

sent His only begotten Son to this world with one express purpose- to firmly and finally deal with the problem of sin. This had been His plan from eternity past, as He had seen that mankind would fall under sin, and so planned the remedy.

As God in the flesh, Jesus referred often to Himself as the Son of Man. You can (and should) read about Him in the Gospels (the New Testament books of Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John).

The Creator realized we would never solve the problem of sin on our own, and we SURE couldn’t become perfect. So He sent His Son to do what we could not, and become sin for us, and die in our place, because “the wages of sin is death” says Romans 6:23; and “all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God”. So God saw the problem and solved the problem of sin by letting His own Son pay sins penalty when He died on the cross. No magic involved; Jesus just had to live a sinless life and lay down that life as a ransom for many. Which He did. And that is why that same verse in Romans 6 that tells us sins wages is death also tells us that “the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.”

Problem solved. Rebellion against God solved by the very God who named it rebellion.

All one needs do is put their trust in the One who died for them- the One who fully paid sins price and opened the door to Heaven for anyone who isn’t too proud to admit to being a sinner, and put their well-being in the hands of their very

C re a t o r by clinging to Jesus for eternal life. I can personally attest to over half a century of real life with Jesus and the peace that comes with it.

You have choices: you can dismiss sin and hope for the best; you can discuss sin and wonder and wander; or you can turn your sinful life over to the Savior who paid for your sin and join the thousands who KNOW Him in a personal way.

So what is the worst sin? It’s unbelief. THAT will keep you out of heaven and prevent you from enjoying the abundant life Jesus came to offer us.

No other sin is beyond God’s grace and mercy.

Only the sin of “I’ll do it MY way.” Choosing to remain apart from God will be honored by the very God you reject, and you will have eternity far away from Him, but you won’t like the result.

Read and pray and interact with God and His word, and choose life over death.

Shirley Mae Mullins

Shirley Mae Mullins passed away peacefully on the evening of Thursday November 3rd. She was 86. Shirley was born on May 19th, 1936 in Pennsylvania. There she attended school until she graduated. After graduation, she married her high school sweetheart Don Pacropis. After their wedding, they moved to various cities as they raised their two children Donna and Brian. They ended up in Louisiana, Missouri where Shirley spent a major portion of her life. She was very active in her children’s activities.

Shirley was a pleasure to be around. She enjoyed having a great time and living life to the fullest. People gravitated to her because of her positive attitude.

Unfortunately, her and Don got a divorce. However, this did not keep her from playing an important part in her children’s life. She loved her children very much and did whatever it took to make them successful. Donna became an ER doctor and Brian was a Chemical Engineer. They were “everything” to her.

After the divorce, Shirley worked as a waitress, at the Cardinal Inn in Pittsfield, Il. She was great and all of the customers requested her because of her humor and service. She met her second husband, Harold Mullins, at this cafe. He was a truck driver and he loved Colorado. So, he and Shirley moved to Dacono, Co. Harold bought the house without talking to Shirley about it. Of course, Shirley was not too happy about this. But once she saw the house, she fell in love with it. Shirley enjoyed the yard work while Harold was working and her two “weiner” dogs kept her busy.

She was a great house keeper and welcomed everyone. She enjoyed watching sports and was terribly upset with the Broncos over the past several years. Shirley was a very generous and kind person and did not hesitate to tell you about her family.

Shirley was preceded in death by her husband Harold in January 2002 and her two children, Brian in January 2005 and Donna in December 2005.

Shirley will be greatly missed by all those who knew her.

Charles “Chuck” Edwin Tompkins, loving husband, father, and grandfather, was called home to Heaven on Thursday, March 30, 2023. He was 75 years old.

Chuck was born in Denver, Colorado on July 3, 1947. He grew up in Brighton, Colorado, save for a few years he spent in western Wyoming with his parents, Everett and Nadine Tompkins, while his dad was installing telephone switchboard offices.

Chuck had fond memories of his time there, especially in Thermopolis. He graduated from Brighton High School in 1965 then went on to attend Colorado State University and Metro State College, where he earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Business Management while minoring in engineering. He proudly served his country. He worked as a production planner, mostly in Aerospace. He worked on airplanes, cargo planes, and military jets. He was most proud of being on the space shuttle team.

Chuck only ever had eyes for one woman, Shirley Anne Franklin. He was ahead of her by a year in high school and loved her from the first moment he saw her. He told everyone that he was going to marry that gal. Shirley wasn’t interested in Chuck or dating and she turned him down but he wasn’t about to give up. He remained persistent in his pursuit and his tenacity paid off when they started dating in college. Chuck and Shirley were married in Commerce City, Colorado in 1968 and remained happily so until the day he was called Home. Their family was made complete when they welcomed their only child, a son, Dana. His work took them from Colorado to Alabama to Texas and back to Colorado. They settled in Frederick, Colorado in 2000.

Chuck loved Dana. He was extremely proud of his son who grew to be a hardworking and honorable man and a loving father. There never was a father more proud of his son than Chuck was of Dana. Together, they shared a passion for shooting. He and Dana loved to ski together, as long as Chuck was able. As a family, they enjoyed camping trips, especially when Dana was a little boy. He also enjoyed spending time at the senior center, working with old trains, and was a member of Trigger Time, a shooting club. Chuck really enjoyed driving and though he was a very modest man, he did like nice cars. More than anything else in the world, Chuck loved being with Shirley and Dana.

Chuck was a man of great faith that kept his relationship with his Savior private. He was quiet in many ways; a quiet man that lived a quiet life. He was kind-hearted and good-humored. Though he had achieved much in his lifetime, he was never a bragger. He valued fond memories over flashy things. He was humble, thoughtful, and he was grateful. Chuck loved his family, his country, his military, and his God. He will truly be missed.

Chuck leaves behind his beautiful wife of more than 54 years, Shirley Tompkins, his son, Dana Tompkins, and his granddaughter, Sydney. His parents and his brother, James, welcome him in Heaven.

A Funeral Service was held to honor Chuck on Monday, May 1st, 2023 at Ahlberg Funeral Chapel in Longmont, Colorado. A Viewing took place before the service and an intimate reception occurred after. Chuck was then laid to eternal rest at Elmwood Cemetery in Brighton, Colorado on the same day.
