In 1990, the U.S. Census counted 468 Mead residents. By 2013, the head count grew by 751 percent to 3,985 residents, according to census.gov.

94th Annual Highlandlake/ Mead Pioneer Day A

s part of our 94th Annual Highlandlake/ Mead Pioneer Day (June 14, 2015) we are having a silent auction. Several items have been donated so far. I'm including photos of two of them here. The main feature this year is a farm show where you can come and see old tractors and other machinery, ask questions, and learn about some of our proud history.

Pioneer Day (formally known as the Highlandlake/Mead Community Gathering) is our our major fundraiser for the year. We have more needs than usual this year, since the church building is in need of painting

We are also having hayride tours of the Highlandlake Community and Pioneer Cemetery. Hands on demonstrations, where you can learn how to churn butter, grind wheat, and shell corn the old-fashioned way, are just a few of the activities. Never fear, our famous potluck lunch at noon is still on the agenda. We will never give that up!

All events start at the Historic Highlandlake Church building. This is a come, eat, enjoy, and stay as long as you like.

Now, one more thing. We are holding a little contest. Not sure what the prize is yet, but I'm sure that I will be able to come up with something good. As most of you know, I wrote a book on the history of Highlandlake and Mead, published by Arcadia Publishing.

In the book, there is one small typo that changed a sentence into one huge mistake.

Get your hands on my book and see if you can find it, then email me your answer, along with the page number to: pauli@ historichighlandlake.org. All correct answers will be entered in a drawing. We will draw a name out of the hat during the potluck (12 noon) on Pioneer Day. You will not need to be present, but if you aren't, you are sure going to miss out on some good eatin'.

Unfortunately, the timing didn’t work out to continue the trail south immediately but this project will resume in the coming months.

llan Glen Kennedy, 88, of Longmont, died April 2, 2015 at Longmont United Hospital. He was born April 18, 1926 in Girard, Kansas to Samuel Gilbert and Jane (Hennessy) Kennedy. In 1944 Allan was drafted into the United States Army. He served in the Philippines and Korea during World War II, being honorably discharged in 1946.

On November 29, 1946 Allan married Irene Ankerholz in Bushton, KS. They moved to Colorado in 1959 where he became employed by Gehl Brothers Manufacturing Company. He was the sales representative for the state of Colorado and portions of Wyoming, Nebraska and New Mexico, retiring in 1989. Throughout the years, even though he was busy with work and raising a family, Allan always took the time to help on the Ankerholz family farm in Kansas.

Memories of Allan will forever be those of a kind, friendly and hardworking man who loved his family dearly.

Surviving are his daughters Denise (Joe) Winslow of Mead, CO and Kathy (Robert) Turner of Avondale, AZ; his sister Florence (Willis) Revel of Longmont, eight grandchildren: Nathan (Shanna) Jessen, Colin (Jessica) Jessen, Tyrone (Jamie) Turner, Robert (Sondra) Turner, Tamara Moore, Beronica Turner, Jennifer Leblanc (Julian Kiss) and Lori (Peter) Arendsen. He is further

andy Hall, 52, was born August 15, 1962, to parents Leona Schreiner, deceased of Rapid City, and Dick (Donna) Hall of Hygiene. Randy died April 10, 2015 from an unknown and unexpected lung condition.

Randy was a long time resident of the beautiful Highland Lake, (Mead, Colorado) community. He was originally from Rapid City, South Dakota where he met his wife of 29 years, Rebecca Turner-Hall.

Randy is the father of two sons, both born in Rapid City, Dustin Turner and Kody Hall. In 1994, the family moved to Mead where he got a job on a drilling rig.

Randy is survived by his wife Becky, two sons and granddaughter Emma. He is also survived by his father, three sisters and many friends who meant the world to him.

Memorial services will be on May 4, 2015 at 4:00 PM at Historic Highland Lake Community Church, 16896 County Road 5, between CR 34 ¾ and CR 36, one mile Northwest of Mead. Cremation entrusted to Ahlberg Funeral Chapel and Crematory. Visit www.ahlbergfuneralchapel.com to share condolences.

The Summer Recreation Program through the Town of Mead will begin accepting registrations for the 2015 Summer Rec program beginning April 1, 2015.

Per Mead Municipal Code Sec. 7-6-310. Dog running at large — Dogs are considered to be running at large when off of the owner’s premises and not restrained, either by leash, cord or chain of not more than six (6) feet in length.

Sec. 7-6-385. Removal of excreta -The keeper of every dog, cat or other animal shall be responsible for removal and sanitary disposition of any excreta deposited by the animal anywhere in the Town. … When accompanying a dog, cat or animal outside of the keeper's premises, the keeper shall carry suitable means for the removal of such excreta, and it shall be unlawful to fail to remove such excreta.
