BROADLAND | STANDARD LINE

Drawing on the classic lines and proven design characteristics of a traditional Prospector canoe, the Broadland is a true all rounder and a real workhorse.

We have optimised the chine, camber, and sidewall profile from the original Prospector design to increase both primary and secondary stability – making the Broadland a confidence inspiring canoe to paddle.

A carefully considered rocker profile, and a symmetrical hull form ensure both the Broadland 15 and 16 paddle well either tandem or solo.

BROADLAND | HIGH LINE

For those who push their boats hard with tripping loads in exposed open water or in advanced white water, our Highline boats add additional depth to our already versatile Broadland range.

Our standard Broadland range offers enthusiasts a fine balance of Prospector versatility, traditional virtues, 21st century handling and workhorse capabilities - all of which are retained in our Highline range If you paddle tandem with expedition gear in big waves or like to drive your canoe through the biggest features, the additional freeboard makes this range a little more forgiving.

Our revolutionary duralite material was purpose designed for the demands of tripping with heavy loads or for whitewater use, which is why our highline models are exclusively available in this construction.

STEP 1 - CHOOSE YOUR CONSTRUCTION

The outer skin is made with an incredibly stiff and tough whitewater grade plastic – the best we can find, the foam has been optimised to have a lower density, giving us a thicker core than that used in Duracore, and the material distribution between the layers has been optimised to make the most of the superior materials.

The result? Stiffer, lighter, and yet just as durable!

The noticeable weight saving over our Duracore laminate puts many models made with Duralite into close competition with more expensive canoes produced with composite or Royalex construction methods.

Duracore is a tough and durable three-layer Polyethylene material.

Made to last with a tough, high-density outer skin, a closed cell foam core, and a medium density inside skin to help dissipate the energy from impacts.

STEP 3 - CHOOSE YOUR TRIM VINYL GUNWALES

Our custom vinyl gunwale profile is matched with webbing seats, plastic end plates, ash handles and carrying yoke to give a durable, low maintainance outfitting option.

ASH GUNWALES

Every canoe with ash gunwales is hand finished with pride at our Norfolk production facility. After carefully fitting the ash profiles, the gunwales are planed and oiled by hand, then matched with ash end plates, ash handles, carrying yoke, and webbing bound ash seats. Not only does it give a beautiful, natural finish, but is several kilos lighter than the vinyl alternative.

“At Silverbirch every last detail matters, and our gunwale profile is no exception! Rather than just buying a run-of-themill profile off a stockists shelf we worked hard to develop our own profile. One with a more tactile shape, and one with added corrugation to aid strength. Made exclusively for us these extruded gunwales are made from our own blend of high tensile plastics�

STEP 4 - CHOOSE YOUR SEATING

As standard we outfit our canoes with comfortable wood & webbing seats, however as a no cost option you can swap these for highly durable polyethylene seats. Additionally you can choose to exchange the central carrying yoke for a Silverbirch central seat which is designed to compliment the polyethylene end seats, and makes a fantastically rugged set up for families and professional use. For an additional cost, options such as the curved cane seat shown opposite are also available.

That’s exactly what we did with the Covert!

In development nothing was off limits and nothing was pre-set – we simply sat down in our shaping bay with a blank piece of paper and one simple brief – To create the fastest, most manoeuvrable, and most predictable Open Canoe possible.

At the core of this philosophy is our stepped rocker profile. The step in the tail ensures a clean release of water from the stern, which not only reduces drag, but also helps to reduce the tendency for the tail to bog down on boily eddy lines or when getting bounced around by large lateral waves.

The sidewall profile of the boat is also continually curved. This helps boost secondary stability and is carefully angled to keep the waterline width to a minimum.

As the Covert is made just to slide, spin, grind, boof, and surf its way down the river we have searched the globe for the best materials to build it from.
