REDWOOD PRIMARY’S SCHOOL GARDEN BLOOMS WITH COMMUNITY SPIRIT AND AGRICULTURAL EDUCATION!

The School Garden at Redwood Primary School in St. Catherine, established by the Ole Farmers Association North America Inc. (OFANA), has quickly become a vibrant centerpiece of the community. This initiative, enthusiastically embraced by locals, promises sustainability and educational growth. The collaborative effort between OFANA, This is Jamaica, the Jamaica Agricultural Society (JAS), the Principal, students, and parents has transformed the school grounds into a thriving garden. The community’s support is evident in their dedication to maintaining and expanding this valuable project, ensuring that it continues to flourish.

The benefits of the School Garden extend far beyond its aesthetic appeal. Students at Redwood Primary are now actively involved in agricultural activities, gaining hands-on experience and learning vital skills at an early age. The produce harvested from the garden will be used in the school’s cafeteria, providing fresh and nutritious meals for the students. Any excess produce will be sold, potentially generating funds to further support the school’s initiatives. This project not only fosters a sense of responsibility and teamwork among the students but also instills in them an appreciation for sustainable farming practices.
