Mooikloof Project

The Tshwane-based project is up and running, a�er it was unveiled two years ago by President Ramaphosa. Real estate giants Balwin Proper�es secured the contract, and they expect to complete their work by the end of the decade.

A brief update on Mooikloof was published in the 2022 Wealth Report, which was released by Knight Frank this week. They singled out the new city for its ‘strong green creden�als’, and praised it as a pioneering project for Mzansi. “Unveiled in 2020 by President Cyril Ramaphosa, the city is set to be the world’s largest partownership residen�al property development. It has also been designated as one of South Africa’s state-led strategic integrated developments aimed at ensuring inclusive housing for all, as well as having strong green creden�als.”

Mooikloof is expected to provide tens of thousands of jobs and living spaces, and it will occupy a substan�al part of the Gauteng landscape. Here are some of the most remarkable numbers behind the ambi�ous build… The 200-hectare development will be home to educa�onal centres, healthcare facili�es, retail hubs, and vast real estate. • Over 50 000 residen�al units will be built here. • In total, Mooikloof is expected to create a total of 41 000 jobs, offering locals access to outdoor gyms and sport centres. • The es�mated cost stands at $5 billion / R86 billion. • It will cover a space of over two million square metres, at its base in the east of Pretoria. • The ten-year project should be completed by 2030, according to the latest update.

Mooikloof isn’t the only new city that demands the president’s a�en�on, however… A ‘smart city’ is set to break new ground on the Wild Coast. Eastern Cape Premier Oscar Mabuyane confirmed during his recent State of the Province Address that the project is ‘gaining momentum’, and the

which boasts an urban design based on a farming economy. Green energy will power most of the ‘agri-city’, and it’ll be home to about 3 500 individual living spaces. Office blocks, schools, and a new hospital are at the heart of the project. The second of our two new ci�es is slated to be in the Pienaar region of Mpumalnga. To the west, there is the well-frequented Mpumalanga Interna�onal Airport, and to the east, Kruger Na�onal Park sits on the doorstep.
