UNM Starts Work On Humanities Building...14
James Construction Group LLC (JCG) is building a 6.4-mi. four-lane freeway around the western side of Corrigan, Texas, as part of the Texas Department of Transportation’s (TxDOT) $172.8 million Corrigan Relief Project in Polk County. Construction began in September 2022, with completion expected in summer 2027. The new roadway will divert through traffic from the town, improve safety and mobility and provide a more efficient hurricane evacuation route.

“The Corrigan Relief Route is a new portion of U.S. 59, built to interstate standards, intended to eventually be designated part of Interstate 69,” Tim Monzingo, a spokesman of TxDOT’s Lufkin District, told Construction Equipment Guide. “Its intent is to improve safety and mobility around the town and provide a more efficient hurricane evacuation route. The controlled-access highway offers an alternative route for through traffic, making the thoroughfare through the city — which will be designated as Business Route 59 — safer for residents and visitors.” see BYPASS page 30
University of Nebraska-Lincoln Puts Recycled Plastic Asphalt to Test
A 4,000-ft. stretch of roadway in South Sioux City, Neb., is giving University of Nebraska-Lincoln researchers an opportunity to study how recycled plastic performs as part of an asphalt pavement mixture. Foundry Road was paved in June 2025 with asphalt containing approximately 2 million recycled plastic bags, making it the first roadway in Nebraska constructed with plastic-containing asphalt, according to the University of NebraskaLincoln (UNL).

OTC Approves ODOT’s Eight-Year Highway, Bridge Plan The Oklahoma Department of Transportation released its Federal Fiscal Year 2027-2034 Eight-Year Construction Work Plan on Oct. 5, 2026, after the Oklahoma Transportation Commission approved it, okenergytoday.com reported. The plan is ODOT’s guide for addressing safety, pavement and bridge needs across the state’s highway network. The state’s eight field district engineers update the plan annually with input from stakeholders and approval by the Oklahoma Transportation Commission. The latest plan details more than 1,200 critically needed highway and bridge projects across Oklahoma valued at more than $7.3 billion, okenergytoday.com reported. Ongoing inflation and rising construction costs are limiting ODOT’s ability to address infrastructure needs through the plan, as DOTs nationwide have experienced nearly 18 years’ worth of inflation since 2020. Additionally, growing demands on the highway system are outpacing traditional revenues. That will ultimately impact ODOT’s ability to promptly invest in the state’s highways and bridges in a timely manner, okenergytoday. com reported. “Even as we recognize the many roads and bridges that need attention across our great state, inflationary pressure and fiscal constraints are limiting the department’s ability

to properly address the growing needs of our transportation system,” Secretary of Transportation and ODOT Executive Director Tim Gatz said. “Together these issues certainly support the on-going conversation about transportation funding. It is increasingly important that we continue to examine sustainable, reliable and scalable state and federal funding sources in order to maintain Oklahoma’s transportation infrastructure.” Highlights of the 2027–2034 Eight-Year CWP include: • 596 mi. of rural two-lane highway improvements; • 2,980 lane-mi. of pavement in fair or poor condition addressed; • 188 at-risk bridges repaired or replaced; • 10 structurally deficient bridges addressed; and • 1,229 projects statewide, valued at more than $7.3 billion Major projects included in the plan are the Interstate
40 bridges over the Arkansas River in Muskogee County; widening U.S. 259 between Broken Bow and Hochatown; Interstate 35 and State Highway 74 interchange modifications in Goldsby; I-40 interchange modifications in Elk City; shoulder widening on U.S. 64 west of Jet; widening I-35 between the Red River and Springer; further improvements at the interchange of I-35 and Interstate 240 in Oklahoma City and a new interchange at U.S. 75 and 106th Street North in Tulsa. Also presented at the meeting was the updated four-year Asset Preservation Plan, okenergytoday.com reported. That plan complements the Eight-Year Construction Work Plan, with projects designed to extend the life of state highways and bridges via preventative maintenance and rehabilitation work. The Fiscal Years 2027-2030 Plan includes 287 projects that invest $520 million into Oklahoma’s transportation system, according to okenergytoday.com. Those projects will: • improve 1,916 lane miles of pavement; • address 29 accessibility needs; • rehabilitate six structurally deficient bridges; and • address 53 bridges at risk of becoming structurally deficient.

Hyundai Grows In Okla. With Eubanks
HD Construction Equipment Hyundai North America announced on Oct. 13, 2026, the addition of Eubanks Equipment to its expanding dealer network. The family-owned dealership will sell and service Hyundai’s full line of construction equipment from its locations in Welch and Claremore, Okla., for customers throughout northeastern Oklahoma. In 2008, Bob Eubanks and his son, Craig, acquired an existing equipment dealership. Since then, it has grown from four employees at a single location to nearly 40 employees across three locations. After primarily serving the agricultural market, Eubanks Equipment is expanding its reach into construction equipment, building on its established customer relationships and commitment to service. The recently opened Claremore facility near Tulsa will provide convenient access for Hyundai construction equipment customers. “Adding Hyundai construction equipment is an important step in the continued growth of our business,” Craig Eubanks said. “Many of our agricultural customers also have construction equipment needs, and this partnership allows us to serve them better while reaching new customers in the construction industry.” Eubanks said Hyundai’s reputation for quality, value and reliability played a major role in the dealership’s decision. “We did our homework and spoke with equipment dealers and customers across several industries. Hyundai stood out as the right fit for our business,” he said. “We’ve also brought in an experienced heavy equipment service manager because we’re committed to providing the parts and service support our customers expect,” he said. He pointed out that one of their business partners brings decades of construction equipment industry experience, which will also help build this new part of their business. “Eubanks Equipment has built a successful family-owned business with a strong reputation for customer service,” said Sam Schneider, district sales manager, HD Construction Equipment Hyundai North America. “Their investment in experienced personnel and service capabilities demonstrates their commitment to the construction equipment market. We look forward to working together to expand access to Hyundai equipment and support throughout northeastern Oklahoma.”

UNM Breaks Ground On $130.5M Humanities Facility The University of New Mexico began construction on its new Humanities & Social Sciences building on Oct. 22, 2026, on the site of the previous Humanities facility. The estimated $130.5 million project is the culmination of academic, space, facility, and capital planning that began in 2020. An initial assessment determined that the more than 50-year-old Humanities building had reached the end of its useful life. Opportunities were identified to bring together academic programs, improve space utilization, and support evolving teaching and learning needs with the construction of a modern, welcoming facility, with spaces that encourage collaboration and informal interaction among students and faculty. Planning began for a new facility in 2022, with needs assessments, requests for funding, and academic programming to assess the new building’s scope. The project’s physical work began in July 2025, with the demolition of the original Humanities building and expansion of utilities and infrastructure. Design is being finalized, headed by Studio Tsien of New York and SMPC of Albuquerque.

Bradbury Stamm Construction served as the demolition contractor, although the general contractor hasn’t been named.
Funding sources include $52 million from General Obligation Bond 3, which was approved by voters on Nov. 5, 2024, and
$40 million from Severance Tax Bonds with another $2 million of General Fund support contributing to the demolition of the old Humanities facility. UNM is contributing 20 percent of the facility replacement costs. “The humanities and social sciences are fundamental to a university education,” UNM Provost and Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs Barbara Rodriguez said. “This new facility reflects our commitment to the importance of these disciplines and creates opportunities for students and faculty to connect ideas across fields of study.” The new building will house eight academic units that will serve nearly all new freshmen at UNM as they complete the core Humanities classes required for most degrees. The space will be open to the public, and designed to support all students across the university, while housing dynamic learning spaces and technology-integrated classrooms. Shared spaces will support student collaboration, cultural programming, and community engagement. Construction is estimated to take approximately 2.5 years, with teaching and research operations expected to begin in 2029 upon completion and opening.
Colo. Begins $806M in I-270 Corridor Safety Upgrades State and federal officials broke ground on Oct. 19, 2026, on the $806 million Interstate 270 Corridor Improvements to improve safety on this busy corridor. These improvements to I-270, span east to west between Adams County and north Denver, and will improve safety, travel time reliability, freight operations and multimodal connectivity on a congested interstate that carries more traffic than it was designed for. Construction will begin this fall with earthwork, followed by major bridge construction in spring 2027. The project is expected to conclude in 2033. Kiewit Corp. is the project’s general contractor “Every day, Coloradans count on I-270 to get to work, get home and keep goods moving,” Colorado Gov. Jared Polis said. These improvements will make I-270 safer, more reliable and faster for travelers, and will create good-paying jobs. By completing this work in phases, we’re working to ensure this important highway gets the upgrades it needs while keeping traffic moving for the Coloradans who depend on I-270.” “I-270 is a road that serves many roles at once,” said Shoshana Lew, Colorado Department of Transportation executive director. It carries commuters to and through Adams County, it carries significant freight, and it is badly in need of investment so that it can do its job safely. With more than 100,000 vehicles depending on it daily, I-270 is a short highway with an outsized role, linking I-25, I-70 and I-76, moving workers to jobs, freight to market and families across the north-metro area.” The I-270 Corridor Improvements project will: • replace 12 aging bridges built in the 1960s; • Add one new tolled express lane in each direction of
safely; • build a new pedestrian and bicycle bridge over I-270 between East 56th Avenue and Quebec Street; • add new sidewalks, multi-use paths and safer crossings at Brighton Boulevard, East 56th Avenue, York Street, Vasquez Boulevard and South Sandcreek Drive; • improve connections to the South Platte River and Sand Creek trails; • add four new RTD bus stops near the Quebec Street interchange; and • add air quality monitoring and reporting, water quality ponds and wetlands mitigation. Construction will occur in three phases: Phase 1 (October 2026 to early 2030): Crews will complete earthwork on the northern edge of westbound I-270 between 60th Avenue and the South Platte River Trail, then begin the replacement of eight bridges in the most critical need in spring 2027. These I-270 bridges are located at the South Platte River, Burlington Ditch, Brighton Boulevard/Union Pacific and Colorado Department of Transportation graphic BNSF Railroads, and 60th Avenue/BNSF Railroad. This phase will also include reconstruction of mainline I-270 from A map of the Interstate 270 Corridor Improvements the South Platte River to the start of the Vasquez Boulevard I-270, free for buses, motorcycles and carpools of three or ramps. Phase 2 (Early 2030 through 2033): Crews will reconstruct more, alongside two general-purpose lanes; remaining mainline I-270, the Vasquez Boulevard/I-270 • rebuild the Vasquez Boulevard interchange; • improve ramps at I-76, York Street and Quebec Street to interchange, and York Street and 56th Avenue bridges. Phase 3 (Early 2030 through 2033): Crews will reduce merging and weaving crashes; • add a continuous auxiliary lane on I-270 between reconstruct the Vasquez Boulevard bridge over Sand Creek, improve Sandcreek Drive/I-270 frontage road and build Vasquez Boulevard and York Street; • widen shoulders and adds emergency turnarounds so a new bicycle and pedestrian I-270 overpass at South crashes and breakdowns can be cleared more quickly and Sandcreek Drive.

HydrauliCircuit Technology Celebrates 30 Years of Growth

First employees
The company’s 30-year history includes growth, changing markets and economic challenges, but its focus on products, customers and employees has remained the key to its success.
Thirty years ago, HydrauliCircuit Technology (HCT) began with a dream, a garage and a determination to build better hydraulic kit solutions for heavy construction equipment. Founded by David Perry in 1996, HCT started as a small, hands-on operation. Perry designed, built and sold custom auxiliary hydraulic kits with a simple philosophy: Build better products, stand behind them and take care of the customer. That foundation has grown into a company serving customers throughout the United States, Canada, Mexico and South America. HCT has become one of North America’s leading privately owned manufacturers of excavator hydraulic kits, guards, coupler kits and engineered hydraulic solutions. The company’s 30-year history includes growth, changing markets and economic challenges, but its focus on products, customers and employees has remained the key to its success.
aftermath of Sept. 11, 2001, the 2008 global financial crisis and the COVID-19 pandemic. Each period required the company to adapt while maintaining its focus on customers and employees. In 2009, during the financial crisis, HCT moved into a new facility that provided three times the space for manufacturing, installations, engineering and future expansion. “HCT started with a vision in a garage and grew into a much larger operation. As the market and machines changed, HCT adapted to meet the demand,” said Bryan Foote, coupler division supervisor. People Behind Products While HCT’s products and facilities have changed, its employees remain central to the company. The workforce includes employees with experience in heavy equipment, engineering, manufacturing, installation, troubleshooting, sales and product support. Many have spent years or decades with the company. Steve Lindler, product support manager and one of HCT’s earliest employees, joined the company in 2000, when it had six employees. Four of those original six remain with HCT.
Humble Beginnings, Growing Vision In HCT’s early days, nearly every hydraulic kit and machine presented a new challenge. The company grew by listening to customers, solving problems and developing products designed for real-world applications. “By aligning our technical capabilities directly with client needs, we turned every hurdle into a win,” said Dan Fields, sales coordinator and technical sales representative and Perry’s first employee. “We have grown since I started in 2006, and we remain a custom hydraulic kit manufacturer at heart; every project and machine is still a unique adventure,” said Huelon Perry, HCT’s shop manager. As the company grew, its products became more specialized and engineered for specific machine makes and models. Manufacturing processes became more efficient, technology improved and HCT expanded its capabilities to keep pace with increasingly sophisticated equipment. “We have never lost who we are. Our team is tightknit, and we take pride in our workmanship and customer HCT photo experience,” Huelon said. HCT specializes in fully integrated hydraulic kits
“Employees are the company and always will be. More than 35 percent of our employees have been here 10 years or more,” Lindler said. That longevity has helped HCT maintain its close-knit culture as the company has expanded. “We’ve grown and changed while keeping the close-knit family atmosphere that makes us who we are,” said Heidi Dover, purchasing manager, who has been with HCT for 21 years. Employees across the company share responsibility for quality, problem-solving and customer service, helping HCT respond to changing equipment and customer requirements.
Customers First Customer service has been a central part of HCT’s business since its founding. The company works with OEMs, equipment dealers, rental companies, attachment manufacturers, contractors and end users to develop hydraulic solutions for field applications. “We focus on taking care of our employees like family, knowing that when our team is supported, they take outstanding care of our customers,” said Navin Baliga, president of HCT. “We’ve stayed dedicated to being there for them, sunup and sundown,” Foote said. That approach has helped HCT build long-term customer engineered for specific excavator makes and models. relationships by providing components, technical support The kits support attachments including hydraulic and installation solutions.
Growth Through Challenges HCT’s growth has included its share of challenges, hammers, thumbs, grapples, compactors, demolition including recessions, changing market conditions, the shears, magnets, mulchers and processors.

UNL Monitors Nebraska’s Foundry Road Paved With Plastic Asphalt University of Nebraska–Lincoln photo
As monitoring continues, Foundry Road will provide further insight into how the material responds to traffic, moisture and seasonal temperature changes — and whether it can deliver the durability expected of a working roadway.

Rather than treating the project solely as a recycling initiative, researchers are monitoring the pavement under traffic and Nebraska’s wide-ranging weather conditions to determine how the material performs in service. “This is a pilot project, but it is an excellent opportunity to partner with a Nebraska community and test how the mixture will perform under the extreme weather conditions we have here,” said Jamilla Teixeira, assistant professor of civil and environmental engineering at UNL. Teixeira highlighted the South Sioux City project as part of The Science of Transportation, a national showcase of transportation research held in Washington, D.C., in May 2026. According to UNL, her research focuses on incorporating recycled plastics, recycled asphalt pavement and bio-based materials into roadway construction while maintaining pavement durability. From Recycled Bags to Roadway The South Sioux City project developed through collaboration among the city, UNL, the Nebraska Department of Transportation (NDOT) and several privatesector partners. The city constructed the Foundry Road section near Siouxland Freedom Park, along with an extension of the Al Bengtson Bicycle Trail. The project received a $500,000 grant from the Nebraska Environmental Trust, according to UNL. The asphalt mixture incorporated approximately 2 million recycled plastic bags and 25 percent reclaimed asphalt pavement (RAP). While RAP is an established component of asphalt paving,
recycled plastic represents a newer area of research. UNL researchers are investigating how waste plastics can function as polymer modifiers in asphalt binders and mixtures, with the goal of determining whether they can be incorporated without compromising pavement performance. The project brought together the city of South Sioux City, NDOT, the Nebraska Environmental Trust, First Star Recycling, Dow Chemical, Jebro, Barkley Asphalt and Goodwill of the Great Plains, according to UNL. Testing Pavement Performance Laboratory testing allows researchers to evaluate pavement mixtures under controlled conditions, but an operating roadway exposes the material to traffic loads, moisture and seasonal temperature changes. Researchers are particularly interested in characteristics such as cracking, rutting and moisture resistance. Nebraska’s wide temperature variations make Foundry Road a useful location for evaluating the mixture under actual service conditions. The university’s June 2026 transportation research update noted that Teixeira continues to investigate alternative paving materials, including recycled plastics, reclaimed asphalt pavement and bio-oils derived from corn and soybeans. Her research portfolio includes a Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) and NDOT project examining waste plastic as a polymer modifier for asphalt binders. The project runs through 2026 and is funded at approximately $142,000, according to UNL. Another FHWA/NDOT project led by Teixeira examined the feasibility of using recycled plastic in asphalt pavements from 2023 through 2025. see ASPHALT page 36

The freeway will have two 12-ft.-wide concrete lanes in each direction, a median, outer shoulders, drainage infrastructure and 19 bridges. Continuous frontage roads are not planned, although limited frontage road access will be available in some locations. Median configurations will vary, with some sections featuring 2-ft. interior shoulders and concrete barriers. Areas east of U.S. 287 will have 6-ft. interior shoulders and 36-ft. unpaved medians. The route extends approximately 3.4 mi. north and 2.3 mi. south of U.S. 287 in Corrigan. Improving Traffic Flow, Safety Average daily traffic through Corrigan was estimated at 17,000 vehicles in 2025. TxDOT expects that number to exceed 26,000 vehicles daily by 2055. “This project won’t reconfigure the physical road through Corrigan,” he added. “Instead, the existing road will be designated as BU 59 and will better serve the appropriate traffic volumes.” The project was the largest ever let in TxDOT’s Lufkin District at the time of bidding. CivilCorp provided schematic design and preliminary engineering and prepared plans, specifications and estimates for the freeway and bridges. TxDOT targets a 50-year service life for new concrete installations. Earthwork, Site Preparation JCG began clearing and grubbing when construction started, completing the work within a few months. Crews used excavators, dozers, skid steers, loaders and other equipment from John Deere, Cat and additional manufacturers to clear wooded areas and prepare the site. Excavation generated nearly 600,000 cu. yds. of material, primarily clay and topsoil. More than 1 million cu. yds. of embankment was placed, with between 400,000 and 500,000 cu. yds. of additional material brought in. “Where possible, most of the excavated material is reused as embankment,” Monzingo said. “Topsoil would be stockpiled for later use, but any unsuitable material would be removed as soon as possible.” GPS technology helped crews meet grading and site preparation specifications. Precast box and pipe culverts, cross-drainage structures, storm drainage and median inlets

were installed as work progressed. “Cross drainage structures, such as culverts, were placed throughout the project as prep work was completed,” Monzingo said. “Storm drainage and median inlets were also included. Precast box and pipe culverts are often preferred for drainage structures.” Stormwater management and environmental protection were major considerations as crews cleared previously undisturbed wooded areas. Wetlands and other environmentally sensitive locations had to remain undisturbed, while areas designated for temporary construction impacts must be restored. “The main challenge was containing our runoff,” Monzingo said. “We have a strict set of requirements when it comes to stormwater pollution prevention, and we also maintain communication with our contractor partners to add and augment our prevention plan whenever necessary. “Additionally, as we were clearing lots of previously undisturbed wooded areas, limiting environmental impacts was a top priority.” Felled trees were collected and sold to third-party processors for use in paper, lumber and other products. “Timber is a big industry in this region,” Monzingo said, “and the opportunity to contribute to the livelihoods of our
Crews are constructing several bridges simultaneously, sometimes working from both ends of a structure.
Concrete Pavement, Bridge Construction The main lanes consist of two 12-ft.-wide lanes in each direction. The pavement structure includes 12 in. of cement-treated subgrade, 4 in. of dense-grade hot-mix bondbreaker and 13 in. of continuously reinforced concrete pavement. Crews frequently placed concrete at night, using slipform pavers and other standard paving equipment. Production routinely exceeded 3,000 sq. yds. per night. JCG established a portable concrete batch plant on-site to supply paving operations and store materials. “Concrete was often placed at night,” Monzingo said. “Curing time can vary greatly, but concrete may set and be able to be walked on as soon as eight hours. However, to satisfy TxDOT requirements, concrete is not considered cured unless meeting specified compressive strength of 3,600 PSI at seven days and 4,000 PSI at 28 days. Most operations met 28-day strength requirements at the 7-day mark.” The 19 bridges include structures at U.S. 59 and U.S. 287, Union Springs Road, two Union Pacific Railroad (UPRR) crossings and Dry Creek, along with additional drainage crossings. The U.S. 59 overpass over U.S. 287 is 3,000 ft. long and has 28 spans. The two railroad bridges measure 1,300 ft. and 2,162 ft. long, with 10 and 19 spans, respectively. The Dry Creek bridge is 630 ft. long and has six spans. Bridge construction follows standard TxDOT designs. Most structures use precast, prestressed concrete beams, while steel girders were selected for the railroad crossings to accommodate longer spans. “For the bridges crossing UPRR, we made use of steel girders,” Monzingo said. “Using steel allowed us to span longer distances between bents, though the designs were more complex.” Crews generally install drilled shafts, abutment caps, columns and bent caps before placing beams and constructing bridge decks and railings. Approximately 90 percent of the bridge structures were cast in place. A Manitowoc 2250 crane with a spreader bar lifted large steel beams near the U.S. 59 intersection. Two cranes were required to set beams at the northern UPRR crossing. see BYPASS page 52

Vögele’s Electric Pavers Offer Low Noise, Zero Emissions At bauma 2025, Joseph Vögele AG presented the SUPER 1300-5e, the company’s first fully electric compact paver. Its little brothers, the battery-powered MINI 500e and the MINI 502e pavers with an electrically heated screed, have now also joined the family of machines with zero operating emissions.
Paving With Zero Operating Emissions, Low Noise Whether it be official environmental standards, noise abatement regulations or sustainability goals, the demands for environmental compatibility and carbon neutrality on infrastructure projects are a constant growing challenge for construction
companies. In view of this, electrified construction equipment plays an increasingly important role in the achievement of zero operating emissions in road construction. Vögele has therefore expanded its range in the E-Power segment and is presenting not only the MINI 500e and MINI 502e mini class pavers at bauma 2025, but also is
celebrating the first public appearance of the company’s new, fully electric, compact class paver, the SUPER 1300-5e. All three models feature a battery-electric drive concept and an electrically heated extending screed. As low-noise machines with zero operating emissions, they are ideal for paving in urban settings, enclosed spaces, or in particularly sensitive areas, according to Vögele. SUPER 1300-5e The SUPER 1300-5e is the first fully electric compact class paver from Vögele, and simultaneously the first electric paver of the Dash 5 generation. In combination with the AB 340 extending screed, it has pave widths between 5.9 ft. and 13.7 ft., making it the ideal choice for small and medium scale road construction projects. The liquid-cooled lithium ion battery from Kreisel Electric has a storage capacity of 126 kWh and works with 400 V in the high-voltage range. Depending on the paving method, it provides sufficient power reserves for a full working day. High Performance Meets New Technologies With its powerful battery, the SUPER 1300-5e achieves comparable drive power and paving performance to its conventionally powered counterparts in the compact class. As a Dash 5 paver, it offers an even higher level of operating comfort, automated functions and shorter set-up times than its Dash 3 predecessor, according to Vögele. The new technologies include the ErgoPlus 5 operating concept, new assistance and automatic control systems, additional comfort features and a new lighting system.

BOMAG Names Madden Vice President, Service, Solutions BOMAG Americas, a Fayat Company, announced that industry veteran David Madden joined its team as vice president of service and solutions. In his new position, he will build strategies and lead the company’s team members under the service and solutions umbrella – parts, training, warranty, UPTIME and the Equipment Readiness Center. A technician by trade, Madden has been turning wrenches on equipment since an early age. He offers more than 30 years of service industry experience, spending time with original equipment
manufacturers (OEMs) as well as heavy equipment dealers. He held various service and management roles at dealerships in Kentucky and Louisiana. He also worked as a regional product support manager and North American field service manager for a global manufacturer of construction, agricultural and industrial machinery. Most recently, Madden managed the regional service and aftermarket sales program for 22 states in the eastern United States and Canada for a leading global agricultural and construction equipment manufacturer.
“David [Madden] offers deep, tenured experience for this position,” said Brian Bieller, president of BOMAG Americas. “Plus, his breadth of dealer and OEM knowledge gives BOMAG the preferred skill set to transform our service and solutions program and drive more uptime for our customers. While in this position for only a short time, David [Madden] already has framed ideas on how to enhance parts fulfillment efficiency, increase the robustness of our dealer training program and better involve our service and solutions team in the
sales process.” “Throughout my career, I have helped teams execute strategies that management has developed for us,” said Madden. “This new opportunity at BOMAG Americas gives me the ability to formulate strategic decisions, based on company objectives. A manufacturer can supply the best product on the market, but if it’s not properly supported, this hurts the brand. I’m excited to have the opportunity to lead this team, who’s passionate about optimizing equipment uptime for our customers and dealers.”

ASPHALT from page 26
Together, these efforts are intended to help transportation agencies understand how alternative materials affect pavement performance and whether they can meet the durability requirements of conventional roadway mixtures. Putting Research Into Practice The Foundry Road installation also gives researchers and industry partners an opportunity to evaluate how the material performs during an actual paving operation. UNL photographs from the June 2025 project show shredded plastic prepared for incorporation into the pavement, along with crews placing the finished asphalt. Beyond laboratory results, practical implementation requires a mixture that can be produced, placed and compacted successfully using paving equipment and construction methods. Its long-term value depends on how well it holds up after installation. By monitoring the completed roadway, researchers can gather field data to complement laboratory findings and evaluate how the mixture responds to real-world conditions over time. Field Test, Not Complete Answer UNL has emphasized that Foundry Road is

a pilot project, not proof that recycled-plastic asphalt is ready to replace conventional pavement mixtures throughout Nebraska. Instead, the installation provides an opportunity to collect performance data and assess the potential role of recycled plastic in future asphalt construction. For South Sioux City, the project has delivered a completed roadway that also serves as a long-term research site. For paving contractors and transportation agencies, the results could help clarify how recycled plastic can be incorporated into asphalt mixtures and what additional testing may be needed before broader adoption. As monitoring continues, Foundry Road will provide further insight into how the material responds to traffic, moisture and seasonal temperature changes — and whether it can deliver the durability expected of a working roadway. working day. For longer operating times, Vögele offers an alternative, 22 kWh battery option that is good for up to two days of paving without recharging. Both battery options work with 48 V in the low voltage range. In combination with the electrically heated AB 135 extending screed, the mini pavers offer pave widths from 10 in. to 5.9 ft., which enables construction companies to complete even the smallest paving jobs with a machine. Easy Charging, Standardized Battery Technology Both the electric mini class pavers and the SUPER 1300-5e can be charged quickly and easily: The mini pavers can be connected to a household socket or a wallbox. Depending on the battery version, the charging process takes around 5 to 7 hours. The easiest way to charge the SUPER 1300-5e is by using a wallbox or a charging station. With a charging capacity of 22 kW, charging takes about five hours, while the use of a rapid charging station can shorten this to only one hour. As the compact pavers use the same battery and drive technologies as all other compact e-machines from the Wirtgen Group, construction companies also enjoy the added value of synergy effects resulting from common charging procedures, maintenance and service and spare and wear parts. The new Cat D11 XE electric drive dozer is designed to help customers move more material efficiently while helping control fuel consumption and operating costs. Delivering up to 25 percent less fuel consumed per unit of material moved and moving 5 percent to 10 percent more material per hour than the next generation Cat D11. Its electric drivetrain has 60 percent fewer moving parts than a mechanical drive system, helping simplify service and lower owning and operating costs over the life of the machine, according to Caterpillar. Helping drive the D11 XE’s productivity, efficiency and durability improvements are upgrades throughout the machine’s powertrain and major systems. The Cat C32B engine operates at a lower high-idle speed to help the D11 XE deliver up to 20 percent longer life between rebuilds than the D11. The result is the most efficient and productive D11 model to date, consuming up to 20 percent less fuel per hour and producing 20 percent to 25 percent fewer greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, added the company. Designed to improve efficiency while reducing drivetrain complexity, the electric drive system eliminates the bevel gear used in mechanical drive systems. The engine drives a generator that sends power through an inverter to two motors, delivering clean, consistent power to the tracks. “The D11 XE is designed to help customers get more from every hour of operation,” said Luke Fischer, product application specialist for Caterpillar. “By combining the proven capability of the D11 platform with the benefits of electric drive, it delivers meaningful gains in productivity, efficiency and lifecycle value. It also reflects how far dozer performance has advanced, offering up to 25 percent greater efficiency than today’s D11 and up to 40 percent greater efficiency than the first D11N introduced in 1986.” Easier Operation With no gears to shift, the D11 XE electric drive system simplifies operation. A dedicated drive motor at each track provides power-turn capability for strong maneuverability and pryout force. By powering both tracks throughout the turn, the system enables smoother maneuvering and helps operators push more material through the turn, according to Caterpillar. The suspended undercarriage absorbs impact and reduces shock load transfer to the undercarriage by up to 50 percent, added Cat. Accessible, low-effort electronic steering, ripper and dozer controls support precise maneuvering, while the
primary multifunction touchscreen gives operators a clear view of machine performance and convenient access to operating settings. Lower Total Cost of Ownership The electric drive generator and motors are designed to last through two machine lives with only rebearing and resealing, reducing the investment required during every other rebuild. A modular design allows major components to be removed independently, helping streamline service and minimize downtime. “Together, these design choices mean fewer service touches and more time available for productive work,” said Fischer. A new radiator guard and upgraded case and frame help improve durability, extend machine life and reduce maintenance downtime, according to Cat. Larger lift-cylinder trunnion bearings simplify service. Redesigned pin joints with replaceable bearings eliminate the need for line boring and simplify bearing-insert replacement on the ripper, blade and push-arm trunnions. Proven D11 Performance Integrated solutions help D11 XE operators work more efficiently. Available onboard features include: • AutoCarry provides automatic blade control during the carry segment to reduce fatigue, help maintain optimum track slip and increase productivity by up to 15 percent. • 3D Grade Control uses dual ROPS-mounted GNSS antennas and blade-mounted inertial measurement unit (IMU) sensors to precisely position the cutting edge without blade-mounted masts or cables. • Automated Blade Assist (ABA) uses standard dual-tilt capability to automate blade movement to key pitch positions, helping increase efficiency and reduce operator workload. • Automatic ripper control automatically adjusts engine speed and ripper depth to maximize productivity, minimize track slip and reduce machine wear. The D11 XE can also be equipped with MineStar solutions. Command for dozing offers multiple levels of remote control and semi-autonomous operation, allowing the operator to work away from the cab. Terrain capabilities help reduce fuel use and rehandling through automated functions and blade overcut protection. Terrain for grading provides guidance such as bench heights, cycle times and material cut- and-fill volumes to help operators improve machine efficiency.

Unexpected Rock Formation Prompts Unusual Methods BYPASS from page 30
“Placing the beams is typically done quickly, requiring only a few minutes to move it from the ground to the columns by crane, as was the case when installing the steel beams at U.S. 59,” Monzingo said, “however, due to the size of the beams at UPRR north, this operation took closer to an hour, maybe 1.5 hours to complete.” Precast deck panels fill the spaces between beams. Reinforcing steel varies by application, while TX54 beams incorporate prestressing cables. Crews are constructing several bridges simultaneously, sometimes working from both ends of a structure. Railroad coordination is essential to maintaining safe operations near active tracks. “TxDOT’s Construction Engineering and Inspection firm, BGI Inc. and a third-party contractor hired by the railroad, along with the contractor,” Monzingo said, “had weekly meetings to discuss upcoming construction near the railways. If work was to be performed over the railway, the railroad was notified well ahead of time, and flaggers were implemented to ensure the safety of everyone involved.”
Most structures use precast, prestressed concrete beams, while steel girders were selected for the railroad crossings to accommodate longer spans.
Project Challenges, Remaining Work An unexpected rock formation required crews to remove 18,800 cu. yds. of rock using methods uncommon in the region. “During construction, we encountered a large area of rock that we didn’t initially know was a part of the terrain,” Monzingo said. “We had to remove 18,800 cu.
yds. of rock from the project using methods that aren’t common for our region. We’re pretty much right on schedule. Our contractor continues to perform excellently to deliver a quality road, despite challenges that arise with a project of this scale. JCG has completed clearing and grubbing, extensive site preparation and several miles of roadway and bridge construction, including associated drainage infrastructure. Remaining work will focus on completing the freeway, bridges and related systems. The project also includes high-mast lighting, traffic monitoring systems and digital message boards, along with the electrical infrastructure needed to operate them. JCG’s management team includes Project Manager Mark Willis, Project Engineers Nasser Jaber and Emily Hale and Regional Manager Amber Basonic. Major subcontractors include Eagle Construction and Texas Materials. Equipment maintenance remains important during the extensive earthwork, paving and bridge operations. “JCG can usually have repairs done within a few hours,” Monzingo said. “Proactive preventative maintenance can save countless hours rather than letting equipment fall into disrepair and trying to get it going again.” JCG buys and rents equipment through providers including Doggett Equipment Services, Sunbelt Rentals and United Rentals. Case Debuts N Series Dozers With Operator-First Upgrades Case Construction Equipment is launching its nextgeneration 650N, 750N and 850N N Series small crawler dozers in late 2026 with upgrades for cab comfort along with several machine and technology updates. Built on the performance and serviceability of the existing Case dozer platform, the new N Series gives operators more options to customize machine responses for shuttle, steering and blade control, as well as travel speed and rev speed differential. The N Series dozers are also designed to maximize efficiency and fuel savings with EcoMode for fine grading and auto-idle shutdown. Crews can improve high-precision tasks and productivity with electro-hydraulic blade control, now standard on the 650N, as well as integrated machine control with factory options for universal or Case 2D/3D machine control and guidance positioning hardware and software. The dozers also feature Case SiteWatch, including two-way communication with remote update capability to meet a variety of fleet and worksite needs. Cab updates include a new operator station with a touchscreen display and encoder navigation, new keypad and keyless ignition. Ergonomic seat-mounted controls and heated and ventilated seating options provide more operator comfort. Other enhancements also include new sliding windows and four additional air vents. An improved pedal, multiple USB/USB-C ports and lockable storage bring an operator-focused experience to the dozer cab.
A new rear flat panel design improves rear visibility while the redesign of the sweeps, air intake and exhaust provide forward visibility for operators. The N Series also gives operators even greater job site awareness with a rearview camera and ripper up/down notification on the main display. The result is a dozer cab that combines automotive-style comfort while reducing driver fatigue and enhancing safety. For operating efficiency, the 750N and 850N feature a hydraulic reversing fan to keep the engine compartment cool and prevent debris buildup. For more information, visit casece.com.

Komatsu Launches Two Next-Generation iMC Dozers Komatsu offered ConExpo-Con/AGG 2026 show attendees an exclusive preview of two next-generation crawler dozers engineered to advance productivity and efficiency in earthmoving applications from site development and road construction to mining. The D61PXi-25 dozer with intelligent machine control (iMC 3.0) and the D175AX-10 large production dozer represent the next phase in Komatsu’s evolution of powertrain performance, operator-centered design and integrated technology. From precision grading to large-scale earthmoving and haul road maintenance, contractors are navigating tighter margins, skilled labor shortages and increasing pressure to move material efficiently. The D61PXi-25 and D175AX-10 are engineered to address these demands and to deliver measurable gains in productivity, fuel efficiency and controllability, according to Komatsu.
D61PXi-25: IMC 3.0 in Midsize Class The D61PXi-25 is a fully redesigned iMC dozer built to deliver force, precision and efficiency in a size class widely in demand throughout North America. Compared to the D61PXi-24, it offers up to 10 percent greater productivity and up to 10 percent greater fuel efficiency, along with an 18 percent increase in blade capacity and up to 20 percent more steering power. Key features include: • IMC 3.0 with new 10-in. intelligent

control touchscreen and updated user interface; • auto steering designed to support consistent operation and reduce operator effort; • iMC operation that helps maintain functionality if the GNSS signal is temporarily lost; and • a redesigned cab with enhanced visibility, ergonomic joysticks and centralized controls. With an electronically controlled highpressure supply and EGR-less engine design, the D61PXi-25 is engineered to help increase material moved per gallon while
supporting precise grading performance. The new cab environment is designed to help operators maintain focus and comfort through long shifts, with enhanced visibility and customizable control settings. D175AX-10: Next-Generation Performance in Large Dozer Class The D175AX-10 represents the first of Komatsu’s next-generation -10 large production dozers. As the successor to the D155AX-8, it introduces a new main frame, track frames, powertrain, cab and blade

system — all designed to help deliver high production and control total cost of ownership in demanding applications. Compared to the D155AX-8, the D175AX-10 provides up to: • 26 percent more horsepower, with 450 hp; • 25 percent increase in cubic yards of material moved per hour; • 15 percent enhancement in fuel efficiency (measured in cubic yards moved per gallon of fuel consumed); and • 35 percent tighter turning radius. This new dozer also features a new 4-speed automatic transmission and a redesigned semi-U blade designed for enhanced penetration and reduced material resistance. The next-generation cab delivers comfort and efficiency with exceptional ride comfort, KomVision 360-degree visibility system and user-friendly touchscreen monitor. The new steering system enables pivot, power and spin turns without sacrificing blade load, enhancing maneuverability in side-cutting and scraper-push applications. An eight-roller track frame and updated undercarriage configurations are engineered to deliver durability and ride quality in heavy production environments, according to Komatsu. The D175AX-10 also features Komatsu’s newest offroad engine, the DBA127 EGRless engine. This engine helps produce more power for stronger penetration and is designed to lower TCO by being more fuel-efficient and extending service intervals, reducing downtime, according to Komatsu. “The contractors and mining operations we work with are asking for measurable performance gains without sacrificing operator comfort or long-term durability,” said Paul Moore, vice president for products, marketing and service. “With the D61PXi-25 and the D175AX-10, we focused on integrating higher output, more efficient powertrains and advanced control systems that help move more material per pass while supporting operators in the cab.” Both models are designed to integrate with Komatsu’s broader digital and life cycle support solutions. The D61PXi-25 incorporates iMC 3.0 technology, and both dozers are supported by Smart Construction solutions, Komatsu Care programs, Komatsu Genuine Parts and other service offerings designed to optimize uptime and long-term value. The D175AX-10 is currently targeted for introduction in North America in 2026. The D61PXi-25 is planned for a later launch timeframe. Timing and availability are subject to change and will be fully announced at a later date. For more information, visit komatsu.com.

MDT Announces $65M Post Creek Hill Project for 2027
The Montana Department of Transportation (MDT), the Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribes (CSKT) and Kiewit Construction announce that construction on the U.S. 93 Post Creek Hill project will begin in spring of 2027. The work originally planned for fall 2026 has been rescheduled to allow additional time for project development, including completion of final approvals. This additional coordination will help ensure the project is fully prepared for construction and can safely and efficiently move forward. “This project remains a high priority for MDT and our partners,” said MDT District Administrator John Schmidt. “U.S. 93 safety improvements related to wildlife crossing movement are important to Montanans, and we look forward to starting this work.” The project is designed to enhance safety along this important stretch of U.S. 93 from Post Creek Bridge to the Leon / McDonald Lake Road area and will support wildlife movement through the corridor. Planned construction improvements include a northbound truck climbing lane at Post Creek Hill and a new bridge over Post Creek that facilitates wildlife movement. These enhancements will help address safety concerns and provide a more connected route for wildlife in the area. MDT, CSKT and project partners will provide additional information as construction approaches, including project timing and traffic impacts.
