Your Arizona Connection – Sharon Swanson – 1-760-518-4336 – sswanson@cegltd.com Intel Breaks Ground On $20B, 670,000-Sq.-Ft. Chip Factory

Construction is now under way on the largest private sector investment in Arizona’s history.
Intel broke ground on its new $20 billion project on its Ocotillo campus
“This builds on 40 years that Intel has been in Arizona,” Intel CEO Patrick Gelsinger said.
Intel once again is investing in Arizona with its two new leading-edge chip factories. The project spans 670,000 sq. ft.
“If you want to get an indication of how big it is, if you look at this [current] facility, our new facility is three times larger,” said Dominic Greensmith, director of construction. “They're going to go down about 60 feet in the middle and then we’re pouring about 400,000 cubic yards of concrete, 40,000 tons of structural steel going in. That’s about eight Eiffel towers so it’s phenomenal size, but inside the building, we’ll have hundreds of miles of cable and pipe. These are the most advanced buildings in the world.”
Once complete, the Ocotillo campus will house a total of six fabrication factories. This new project is said to create 3,000 new Intel jobs, 3,000 construction jobs and indirectly support 15,000 additional jobs in the state.
“For every job Intel creates, there’s five additional jobs

Intel broke ground on Sept. 25 on its new $20 billion project on its Ocotillo campus, the largest private sector investment in Arizona’s history. Construction of the new facility is expected to be complete by 2024.

from distribution to vendors to supply chain,” Gov. Doug Ducey said. “It’s a good day for Arizona. We’re breaking out nationally and internationally as the place to fabricate semiconductors.”
With this new addition, minimizing their environmental footprint was top of mind.
“The factory that you see here and that we’re building is powered by 100 percent renewable energy,” said Todd Brady, director of public affairs and sustainability of Intel. “So all of the power we use is renewable. In addition, we just built a massive water reclaim facility. Water from our factory goes to the facility, where it can be treated and cleaned and then reused at Intel. That's up to 9 million gallons of water a day we can do that with.”
Construction is said to be complete by 2024.

Flagstaff Bridge Project Earns National Award Recognition
The Arizona Department of Transportation’s Fourth Street Bridge replacement project in Flagstaff is receiving national recognition. The project is among a list of 12 in line for national awards from the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO).
The innovative bridge project has already won western regional recognition. For the national award, the three highest-scoring projects from each regional competition earn a place on a “Top 12” list of projects competing for the national Grand Prize — selected by an independent panel of industry judges — and the People’s Choice Award, chosen by the public through online voting. In addition, those top national winners each receive $10,000 in cash awards to be donated to a charity or scholarship of the state DOT’s choosing.
“This project has provided improved access to our campus for our students and families. It also has created safe and healthy alternatives for students who want to walk to school or ride their bikes,” said David Lykins, superintendent at Northland Preparatory Academy, a charter school located near the southern end of the Fourth Street Bridge.
The new, wider bridge not only benefits the academy, helping students get safely to and from school, but also boosts economic development in the area with better traffic flow and more mobility options.
ADOT State Engineer Dallas Hammit explained the innovative bridge-slide method utilized for the project: “We used a slide technique where the new bridge was built, just east of the old one. That allowed us to move the new structure into place in about two weeks. This greatly decreased the inconvenience to the traveling public.”
After the old bridge was demolished, crews used hydraulic jacks to “slide” the new bridge into place. The method cut an estimated two months off of construction time and saved nearly $7 million over traditional bridge construction methods. This reduced the impact to the local community during construction as well as creating a wider bridge that allows vehicles and pedestrians to safely cross. View a time-lapse video of crews moving the new bridge into place at vimeo.com/442491601.

Planning for Future — Expert Offers 2021-2022 Construction Economic Forecast
The pandemic effectively ended the longest period of expansion in the U.S. economy since World War II and is negatively affecting many industries, weakening the economy, decreasing GDP and causing a lot of uncertainty in the markets.
It can be difficult to be confident in your plans for your company in 2021 and 2022 when you’re not sure how larger macro-economic forces will impact your business.
Looking for Upswing
Everyone wants a recovery in 2021. And, according to Alex Carrick, chief economist, ConstructConnect, there will be a recovery in 2021, but it will be uneven.
For example, travel and tourism will not see a recovery.
“The airline sector is tumbling further,” said Carrick. “Tourism and business travel are far below normal. Security clearances at airports are down by 70 percent. Disney Inc. is reducing employment at its theme parks by the tens of thousands.”
However, technology and entertainment has grown through the pandemic.
“High-tech has come to the rescue of the economy through the pandemic,” said Carrick. “’Big Data’ management and video conferencing have saved the day for many corporations. But Zoom is now being valued by investors at a figure higher than the combined worth of America’s four largest airlines. Is that justified? Apparently, a lot of people think so.”
Money Spent
The Federal Reserve insists it will keep nominal interest rates near zero until 2023 but they may change course as debt rating agencies begin to downgrade some public sector debt.
According to the US CBO (Congressional Budget Office), consumer spending in the fourth quarter of 2021 will increase by just 1.2 percent year over year (YOY) after decreasing by 4.0 percent since the fourth quarter of 2019.
And, business fixed investment (BFI), which is the purchase of new equipment, structures, and intellectual property products, is expected to increase 13.4 percent in 2021 after decreasing by 15.8 percent in 2020, says the CBO. If true, the 2021 figure will be 4.5 percent lower than the same period in 2019.
U.S. exports are expected to grow at a rate of 7.6 percent in 2021 after a 40-percent gain in the second half and a 21percent loss in the second quarter of 2020, said the CBO. This growth, however, will still put real exports in the fourth quarter of 2021 at 1.2 percent lower than their value in the fourth quarter of 2019.
CBO expects labor market conditions will improve in 2021, and the unemployment rate will reach 8.6 percent by the fourth quarter of 2021, which is about 5 percentage points higher than it was in the fourth quarter of 2019.
All Things Construction
In 2020, nearly all construction sectors are down by onefifth.
Although construction has remained an essential service, contractors have reported project postponements and cancellations by owners, while new social distancing guidelines
and COVID-19 outbreaks are causing delays. Many of the mega-projects that were slated prior to the pandemic were rapid transit projects and airport expansions, however, 2019 levels of commuting and flight will not return until 2022. Institutional construction also will see decreases in 2021 compared to 2019. Health care starts, for example, are off by nearly half YOY. “But this is a category of construction where pent-up demand will play an important role post-pandemic,” said Carrick. “Normal visits to the doctor and many elective surgeries are being postponed in favor of dealing with COVID“High-tech has come to the rescue of the economy through the pandemic.”
Alex Carrick
ConstructConnect 19 as the top priority. Eventually, after reliable vaccines have been developed and disseminated, the dam will burst on the demand for traditional medical procedures.” Schools, especially higher education, are seeing decreased enrolment, primarily due to decreased foreign students, and more people learning online, which decreases the demand for repairs, upgrades and expansions of physical properties. Residential construction has been lifted by ultra-low interest rates and increased mobility. “A move back towards ‘old-time’ commuting and sitting at a corporate desk is already being led by real estate development firms and energy companies, however, the outlook for office space construction will remain uncertain, at best, for a couple of years,” said Carrick. However, more single-family housing implies support for roadbuilding, said Carrick, and “roadworks starts” is one of two construction categories that didn’t see big losses in 2020 (only -2.8 percent YOY).
Amazon Effect
Warehouse construction is the other category that didn’t see large losses; it was up 2.7 percent. “As more people shop online, retailers’ needs for warehouses increases. Plus, there’s a move afoot to locate smaller distribution centers closer to customers. City officials want to boast about residents having access to nearly everything within a minimal time frame. Paris, France, for example, is aiming to become a ‘15-minute’ city,” said Carrick. Retail construction, however, saw a loss of 30 percent in actual starts, said Carrick. In 2021 and 2022, empty retail spaces can hamper other types of construction, including warehouse, since companies will move into the empty retail space instead of constructing a new building. Overall, GDP is expected to improve in 2021 but will remain below 2019’s numbers. So, expect more positivity and certainty in the markets in 2021 and 2022, but COVID19 will have lingering detrimental effects for years.

The acquisition of H&E’s crane business will expand Manitowoc’s ability to provide rentals, new sales, used sales, aftermarket parts and service to a variety of end market customers.
The Manitowoc Company Inc., a global manufacturer of cranes and lifting solutions, announced that it has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire the crane business of H&E Equipment Services Inc., one of the largest rental equipment companies in the United States.
The wholly owned Manitowoc subsidiary will be called “MGX Equipment Services LLC.”
“We believe this acquisition will allow us to better understand and respond to the market needs, and to more effectively deliver solutions that positively support the customers’ business,” said Ion Warner, VP, marketing and investor relations, Manitowoc.
“For Manitowoc, there is also the benefit of a recurring revenue stream in aftermarket services, new & used equipment sales, in addition to rentals [bare rental]. With this new business, we plan to continue improving these services by investing in best-in-class sales and technical support in the assigned territories."
Under the terms of the agreement, Manitowoc is expected to pay approximately $130 million funded by a combination of cash on hand and existing debt availability. The transaction is expected to close in the fourth quarter of 2021 and is subject to customary closing conditions and regulatory approvals.
The acquisition of H&E’s crane business will expand Manitowoc’s ability to provide rentals, new sales, used sales, aftermarket parts and service to a variety of end market customers. H&E’s crane business operates with 11 full-service branch locations.
“Over the past few quarters, we have communicated that our intent is to grow through four strategic priorities, one of which is acquisitions focused on aftermarket. The purchase of H&E’s crane business is the next step in our journey to grow the less cyclical part of our business. H&E has a long history and excellent reputation for serving the lifting industry, and we look forward to welcoming the H&E crane team to Manitowoc,” said Aaron H. Ravenscroft, president and chief executive officer of The Manitowoc Company Inc. Brad Barber, chief executive officer of H&E Equipment Services Inc. said, “H&E has become one of the largest rental equipment companies in the U.S. by maintaining a commitment to growth. The sale of our crane business to Manitowoc represents a transformative event in H&E’s continued efforts to increase its focus in the equipment rental business, while positioning us for future growth opportunities. “We believe Manitowoc will provide further career opportunities for our crane employees and will also continue to offer first-class service to existing crane customers.” Manitowoc will acquire 11 full-service crane facilities and operations in nine states and will continue to provide product support in the customers' local markets. These locations are: • Norfolk, Va. • Baltimore, Md. • Winston Salem, N.C. • Birmingham, Ala. • Baton Rouge, La. • Belle Chasse, La. • Houston, Texas • Dallas, Texas • Nashville, Tenn. • Phoenix, Ariz. • Salt Lake City, Utah While H&E’s crane business is transitioning with the acquisition, the day-to-day relationships will not change. The new distribution organization will be led by Cary Burr, H&E’s current SVP of Cranes. Burr will report directly to Les Middleton, EVP Mobile Cranes. “Initially acquisition will help make Manitowoc a stronger and more agile company, even during cyclical downturns, which is a positive for all of us,” Warner said. Togal… Construction Tech Start-Up Debuts Its Estimating Product
Artificial Intelligence construction technology start-up Togal.ai has announced it will enter the marketplace in September.
Following months of beta testing and sampling by more than two dozen general contractors and trade partners, Togal offers software that revolutionizes the estimating process in construction, according to the company.
“We are compressing weeks of work into seconds, and nobody has focused on this space yet,” said Togal CEO Patrick Murphy. “This is something every construction company needs, especially now. With construction delays and labor shortages due to the pandemic, the industry is under even more pressure to innovate.”
Togal recently was featured on Cafecito Talk with Miami Mayor Francis Suarez. During the interview Murphy discussed how Togal and artificial intelligence could revolutionize the construction world.
“I’m so proud of the progress that Togal.ai has made,” Suarez said following the interview. “It is so great to see a Miami born and Miami based tech company launch and grow successfully. The use of AI in construction will revolutionize the industry and I’m excited to see what the future holds for them.”
Togal automates the estimating process, which includes measuring the size of each room’s square footage to accurately price the cost of construction. Typically, estimators do this manually with rollers and rulers, or with a click and drag of a computer mouse. Plans for major projects can be hundreds of pages, taking weeks to complete. Togal can finish those jobs in mere seconds.
“Togal is faster than an experienced estimator, more accurate and a fraction of the cost. I haven’t talked with a construction company that wouldn’t use this. It makes them all more efficient,” Togal co-founder Patrick Hughes said.
The goal isn’t to replace humans, but to allow estimators to spend more time helping their clients save money and build better jobs, thus increase their win rate.
The Engineering and Construction sector is ripe for disruption. The $10 trillion industry has grown labor-productivity just 1 percent in the past 20 years, compared to 3.6 percent for manufacturing, according to a McKinsey Global Institute study.
This is no secret to Murphy. When the former U.S. Congressman joined Miami-based Coastal Construction Group as executive vice president, he was struck by the lack of machine learning and technology used across the industry. So Murphy enlisted the help of various PhD’s in mathematics and AI experts to look for ways to improve production with technology. The estimating department stood out as the clear frontrunner because the work is repetitive and time consuming.

EvoQuip Celebrates Five Years of ‘Crushing It’
EvoQuip, a compact crushing and screening brand with products that focus on simplicity, easy maintenance, fuel efficiency and ease of transport, recently celebrated five successful years in business via a virtual hour-long celebration attended by almost 100 distributors around the world.
Launched in 2016 to bring a simplified range of equipment to the crushing and screening industry, EvoQuip has grown from strength to strength to become one of the top three compact crushing and screening brands in the world.
Starting out with the Bison 35 crusher, capable of outputting up to 33 tons per hour, EvoQuip continued to introduce innovative products with the Cobra 290R now being the biggest crusher in its range, capable of outputting 320 tons.
On the screening side, EvoQuip’s products have evolved to encompass the Harrier 220, a small yet robust machine designed for recycling, composting, topsoil, landscaping and contract building industries, capable of outputting 90 tons, to the highly aggressive scalping screen Colt 1600, which was built upon the features which have made the Colt 1000 a global success.
The Colt 1600 is the largest screen in the EvoQuip range and can process up to 661 tons, depending on application.
EvoQuip’s range also has developed to include tracked mobile conveyors, high- and low-level feeders and radial stockpilers, designed to work alongside its range of crushing and screening equipment. More recently, hybrid offerings, designed to give customers alternative energy options to operate their equipment and digital solutions, such as T-Link telemetry providing customers with real-time information on the performance of their machine, have been at the forefront of EvoQuip’s evolution to address emerging industry needs.
A strong leader in the compact crushing and screening industry, EvoQuip would not be the success it is without its loyal dealers and customers. While the brand started off in 2016 with just five dealers, this has since grown to 44 dealers from around the globe. This growing distribution network alongside attendance at exhibitions such as ConExpo, bauma, World of
Concrete and Hillhead continued to strengthen the brand, showcasing its offering to global audiences.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, EvoQuip had to change initial celebratory plans for this milestone from an in-person event to a virtual one. Hosted by Northern Irish actor and comedian Tim McGarry, dealers were treated to a personalized EvoQuip song, a timeline of the last five years, a live quiz where some of the team members’ knowledge was put to the test, a raffle and the first ever EvoQuip Dealer Awards.
The EvoQuip Dealer Awards included several categories such as Global Leader in Industry Growth, Customer Support and Rental Business Growth, to name a few. Among the winners were Mobile Screening and Crushing (MSC) from New Zealand who won Global Dealer of the Year. MSC is a strong dealer in all areas and engage extremely well with the EvoQuip team. It achieves sales targets, has a strong online presence and is wholly invested in the EvoQuip brand. It is a partnership that will continue to flourish and grow, according to the company.
Speaking of the last five years, Barry O’Hare, business line director, EvoQuip said, “EvoQuip brings value to customers by providing intuitive equipment that is simple to operate and maintain, fuel efficient and easy to transport. User friendliness is at the heart of our brand and as new products have been developed, the focus has always been on simplicity and entry level customers.
“Since joining EvoQuip over two years ago, I have seen the business grow from strength to strength and we couldn’t do that without our global distribution network. It is with the dedication of the EvoQuip team and the relationships we have built with our dealers that has enabled us to grow and maintain our place at the forefront of the compact crushing and screening world.
“I’d like to thank our dealers and customers for their support over the last five years and together we look forward to the future. There are some really exciting, innovative products in the pipeline and with the help and expertise of our distribution network, we will continue to grow and dominate the global compact crushing, screening and conveying market.”

The Hoogendoorn family, founders and 2nd generation owners of the Keestrack Group. Keestrack R3e mobile impact crusher for aggregates and recycling applications with advanced innovative diesel/electric drive with plug-in functionality.

Keestrack, a major manufacturer in mining, recycling and construction equipment found a perfect fit with Goldoni, who specializes in agricultural machinery, to enter the agricultural market and to grow even more in the construction segment.
“After decades of organic growth, we’re glad to continue our growth by expanding our business into the agricultural segment” said Kees Hoogendoorn, president of the Keestrack group. “After analysing many opportunities we felt personally drawn to Goldoni for its rich traditional family values which are very close to ours. Our goal is to keep this historic brand alive supporting the local economy and employment rates.”
“We see a lot of synergy between the current businesses, such as production systems, suppliers and dealer network, which will leverage the Goldoni business to bring success to the company,” said Peter Hoogendoorn, vice president of operations of the Keestrack Group operating its own Italian factory for crushers in Ponzano Veneto.
Keestrack already has a clear strategy to restart the Goldoni tractors production as soon as possible, focusing on making the best specialized tractors, transcars and motor cultivators, using Goldoni’s tradition with Keestrack’s innovation. Keestrack has a strong drive to innovate and is preparing for industry 4.0.
“The product portfolio will meet the customer’s requirements. We look to the future and want to introduce the Kseries open field tractors in the near future. The Goldoni dealer network, in synergy with Keestrack’s, will be the key to make the orange Goldoni tractors strong on the fields again,” said Roberto Lopes, Keestrack Italy CEO.
Goldoni, a brand which has existed since 1926, stands for a high technology level with care for the environment, Italian traditions and passion for design, according to the company. From moto cultivators to specialized tractors like 4WD and Equal Wheels dedicated to orchards and vineyards, the Goldoni range is developed to help agricultural operators manage the entire agronomic cycle more effective and sustainable.

Metso Outotec Debuts New Identity Across Whole Offering
To harmonize the visual identity of the existing offering with the Metso Outotec organizational brand and to create a strong, unified and easily identifiable look for the new era, Metso Outotec will update the industrial branding of its whole product and service portfolio.
The new identity will clearly differentiate Metso Outotec’s offering by combining modern design with the powerful Metso Outotec brand colors and typography. Standalone brands in the aggregates business like McCloskey, Shaorui and Jonsson make an exception and will continue with the existing branding.
High customer value, sustainability and safety features are among the key criteria behind Metso Outotec’s industrial design and product branding choices. Metso Outotec’s Planet Positive-thinking also will be visible on the products: the more than 100 products already identified to have sustainability features relating to water or energy efficiency, reduction of emissions, circularity or safety will have a Planet Positive label attached to them.
The main color of the Metso Outotec products will be light grey, replacing the previous industrial product branding of both companies. A darker grey shade will be used as an accent color to bring contrast.
Implementation of Product
Branding in Phases
The main color of the Metso Outotec products will be light grey, replacing the previous industrial product branding of both companies. A darker grey shade will be used as an accent color to bring contrast. The strong and recognizable black and orange brand colors and the Metso Outotec logo will always be visible on the products. Additionally, product names will be visible, marked with an orange stripe.
The new color scheme will be applied in a phased manner throughout all Metso Outotec products, starting with the new product launches in 2021.
“The development of our new industrial brand design derives from our desire to present a strong, harmonized and consistent image towards our customers throughout all touchpoints. With an updated and appealing identity, we can strengthen our image as a leader in our customer industries and the enabler of sustainable modern life,” said Helena Marjaranta, vice president of communications and brand at Metso Outotec.
“We are particularly proud of our Planet Positive labeling, which we will implement in our products hand in hand with the new branding. It is a strong proof of our commitment to sustainable business.”
