Design features enable operators of all experience levels to routinely attain 10 percent higher bucket-fill factors, compared with legacy designs, to improve production and reduce fuel consumption. Ensuring excellent material retention and increasing efficiency, the loader’s optional ride control improves operating smoothness over rough terrain.

Offering long-term durability in a wide range of applications, the new Cat 966 GC wheel loader is designed for reliable, performing and efficient operation.
Its Caterpillar designed components, on-demand fan, load-sensing hydraulics and intuitive controls keep fuel consumption and operating costs low, making it a versatile machine that also fits the needs of the rental and municipal markets, according to the manufacturer.
The Cat C9.3B engine meets U.S. EPA Tier IV Final, EU Stage V, Korea Tier 4 Final, China Nonroad Stage IV and Japan 2014 emission standards with a gross power rating of 239 kW (321 hp). The engine’s automatic Cat Clean Emissions Module (CEM), including SCR catalyst and diesel particulate filter (DPF) works in the background without impacting the production schedule. The Cat Engine Idle Management System (EIMS), Auto Engine Idle Shutdown (EIS), variable speed fan and load sensing hydraulics help result in low fuel consumption and reduced sound levels on this machine. An optional automatic reversing fan assists in cleaning cooling cores to improve performance in highdebris environments.
The new loader features a 4-speed forward/reverse electronically controlled, automatic planetary powershift transmission with shift protection and single clutch gear shifting for efficiency, durability and smooth gear changes. Ensuring excellent material retention and increasing efficiency, the loader’s optional ride control improves operating smoothness over rough terrain. Optional limited slip differential axle configurations increase traction in poor underfoot conditions.
Front Linkage
Field-proven, Caterpillar’s Z-bar loader linkage with cast crossmember and tilt-lever provides both strong digging capabilities and high breakout forces when the new loader is equipped with Cat Performance Series buckets. The loadsensing implement hydraulic system continuously controls flow and pressure to precisely match requirements of the operating situation, reducing both the load on the pump and overall fuel burn, according to the manufacturer.
Using a system-based approach to balance bucket shape with the machine’s lift and tilt capacity, weight and linkage, the Performance Series buckets are available for a range of applications including general purpose, flat floor, heavy duty rock and light material.
Design features enable operators of all experience levels to routinely attain 10 percent higher bucket-fill factors, compared with legacy designs, to improve production and reduce fuel consumption. The 966 GC also can be equipped with the Cat Fusion quick coupler and controls, and combined with optional third-function auxiliary hydraulics, the coupler allows use of a wide selection of Cat work tools.
An optional Cat Payload kit provides on-the-go weighing* (*Not legal for trade) for precise load targets with proven accuracy, flexible and simple installation, and easy calibration. Bringing payload weighing to the cab, Cat Payload weighs the material while moving to the truck and lifting, so there are no interruptions in the load cycle. It allows the operator to load to exact specification and load more trucks and move more material faster.
Operator Environment, Serviceability
The new 966 GC loader features a simple, intuitive and ergonomic control system with an operator interface display that includes six analog-like gauges, color indicator lights, and an LCD screen all within easy view, so operators can quickly monitor machine systems. Low-effort, pilot-operated implement controls feature a remote transmission kick down switch for operating comfort.
Keeping safety in mind, inclined ladders and integrated handholds are located on both sides of the machine to provide access to the cab and to the engine air filter. A large roofto-floor, distortion-free, flat glass front windshield; standard rearview camera; and exterior mirrors with integrated spot mirrors provide all-around visibility. The standard heating and air conditioning system with 10 louvered vents helps to keep the operator comfortable in all climates.
Ground level access to service points reduces maintenance time and improves safety. Large gull-wing engine hood side panels and a tilt-up rear grill provide unrestricted access to daily service points, fuel and DEF fills, greasing points, filters, and fluid-sampling ports. Further reducing maintenance, an optional Cat Autolube greasing system is available.
With Cat Product Link standard, 966 GC operating efficiency, preventative maintenance and servicing are enhanced. Deeply integrated into machine systems, Product Link captures critical operating data, remotely monitored via my.cat.com, the Cat app or VisionLink.

Doosan Infracore North America is introducing three additional models of its next-generation -7 Series wheel loaders in the United States and Canada. These new 200 size class machines include many of the same features as the larger models and are now available at Doosan dealerships.
Similar to the -7 Series wheel loaders that were launched in spring 2021, this next generation of Doosan wheel loaders offer all-new redesigned cabs with first-class comfort features, increased bucket capacities and new fuel-saving technologies, according to the manufacturer.
The three new models — the DL200-7, DL220-7 and DL250-7 — are smaller than the models launched last year. They have standard bucket capacities between 2.6 and 3.3 cu. yds. All three new models are available with a high-lift option for additional dump height and reach.
“We’re excited to offer a -7 Series iteration of our popular 200 size class wheel loaders in North America,” said Aaron Kleingartner, product and dealer marketing manager, Doosan Infracore North America.
Markets, Applications These smaller models are most commonly used on construction sites, specifically for loading, grading and site prep work. They’re also operated in scrap and recycling applications where they may be paired with a grapple attachment for handling bulk materials. Agriculture producers rely on this size of wheel loader for tasks like feeding cattle and managing manure. Grounds maintenance companies often prefer this size of wheel loader for clearing parking lots with a snow pusher or a bucket for placing snow in trucks for removal.
New Exclusive Technology
Each model of the -7 Series wheel loader can be equipped with an optional transparent bucket, a Doosan-exclusive technology that offers a supplemental view from a monitor inside the cab to improve operator visibility and productivity. The transparent bucket has two cameras with protective guarding, one mounted high and one mounted low on the front of the machine.
“We anticipate that the transparent bucket will be a popular option for our Doosan -7 Series wheel loaders,” Kleingartner said. “Another new technology available in our newest Doosan wheel loaders is situation awareness technology (SAT). The technology helps save fuel by automatically adjusting the engine output in real time to the needs of the drivetrain and hydraulics. It lowers fuel consumption without reducing performance.”
Additional Doosan -7 Series wheel loader technologies available in the 200 size class machines include the following. • The Doosan Smart Guidance System analyzes operator driving habits and provides tips on the Doosan Smart Touch display during operation to increase efficiency. • An improved Load Isolation System improves wheel loader stability while moving, which can reduce cycle times, increase productivity and boost fuel efficiency. • The new Doosan Smart Load weighing system tells the operator the weight of material in the bucket. All menus and settings are integrated into the Doosan Smart Touch screen. • The Doosan Smart Key is a key fob that can unlock the cab and allow push-button engine starting.
DL200-7: Hydrostatic Drive
The new Doosan DL200-7 wheel loader features a hydrostatic drive system for enhanced fuel efficiency, machine positional control and reduced wear on the brakes. The traction control management system allows operators to easily adjust traction force to match jobsite conditions. This helps reduce wheel slippage for more efficient digging, stockpiling and loading.
Doosan DL200-7 operators may choose from the following traction modes. • Max: Provides maximum traction force • Traction control: Allows the wheel loader operator to choose from three levels of reduced traction forces to match jobsite conditions • S-Mode: Helps when operating on slippery roadway conditions
Wheel loader operators may instantly return to the machine’s Max traction mode by pressing the kick-down button on the joystick control.

Volvo Construction Equipment announced new functionality for Load Assist, a productivity program run on the co-pilot tablet in the cab of Volvo CE wheel loaders. Volvo Expands Load Assist Features for Wheel Loaders
Volvo Construction Equipment has launched new functions on its wheel loader productivity software, Load Assist. The updates include new modes within the on-board weighing app, the operator coaching advanced app and quick tips.
“These enhancements will help operators get even more from their Volvo wheel loader, and they add to the existing core functionality of Load Assist, which 10,000 operators have benefitted from to date,” said Eric Yeomans, product manager, wheel loaders at Volvo CE. “We are continuously evolving our Assist programs, and customers can expect further upgrades in the future.”
New Weighing Modes
Load Assist is a suite of apps operated by the Volvo copilot in-cab display. One of the most popular apps is onboard weighing, which provides real-time insight into the bucket’s load within +/-1 percent accuracy. Getting started with the app has never been easier due to the new simple mode, which limits on-board weighing to three core functions: viewing the current load in trip mode, viewing the loaded weight and printing a simplified receipt.
Another new feature of on-board weighing is low load mode, which allows operators to weigh lighter materials and loads than with previous iterations.
Operator Coaching, Leveled Up
As machines become more advanced, the operator coaching app has helped operators understand how their actions influence machine productivity, fuel efficiency and wear, to ensure they are working in a way that delivers optimum results.
Operator coaching now includes a host of advanced features, including two new views. The productivity view allows operators to monitor tons moved per gallon, tons moved per hour and fuel consumed per hour. This can be displayed as a total for the entire work shift, including idle time or only for the active work. It also can be broken down according to short cycles or load and carry cycles.
A new utilization view displays an overview of the time spent, productivity achieved and fuel consumed during different tasks (e.g., the amount of fuel consumed by travel or the percentage of time spent idling).
Another new feature of the advanced package is operator tips. This provides feedback at the end of a shift, including a QR code that links to a relevant instructional video on anything that can be improved.
Quick tips is another new tool that shows messages on how to use specific apps and functions found within the Volvo co-pilot display.
Expanded Tire Pressure
Monitoring System Availability
The tire pressure monitoring system, introduced in 2020 on Volvo L110H to L350H wheel loaders, is now available for the L60H, L70H and L90H models. This system allows the operator to easily check the condition of the tires from the comfort of the cab.
With real-time information on tire pressure and temperature, the operator can ensure that tires are operating within the correct parameters. If not, the operator receives an alert and visual display showing which tire needs attention. The integrated system saves time during machine inspections while also helping to secure the highest levels of tire life, fuel efficiency, machine performance and operator comfort.
