PLC Delivers Dallas Highway Project

If you’ve taken a drive through Dallas recently, you may have noticed something different about Interstate 35: it’s wider.

Pegasus Link Constructors, which brought together Balfour Beatty U.S. and Fluor, an engineering and general contracting firm, in a joint-venture, recently completed the massive, $666 million endeavor known as the

Southern Gateway Project.

The design-build project covered 11 mi. of highway, covering I-35E south of downtown Dallas, U.S. 67 between I-35E and I-20 and the I35E/U.S. 67 split. The improvements included the reconstruction of reversible non-tolled express lanes that are open to all users, including

Cat’s CES Experience Focuses On Tech Leadership, More

Walking the aisles of the Las Vegas Convention Center’s West Hall during CES 2023, the sight of the big, 100-ton Cat777 off-highway truck will be a new and welcome addition to the automotive technology area.

Beyond its distinctive yellow iron, there also is Cat MineStar Command for hauling technology inside the truck that allows it to safely haul materials autonomously. It represents more than 560 Cat autonomous trucks that each day travel a distance equivalent to twice the Earth’s circumference, without a driver.

Over the last nine years, trucks equipped with Command have hauled more than 5 billion tonnes of material, and Caterpillar currently has the world’s largest single fleet of autonomous trucks operating at one site, according to the manufacturer.

“CES, the proving ground for breakthrough technologies and global innovators, is the ideal place for us to showcase our high-tech leadership,” said Denise Johnson, group president of Caterpillar Resource Industries. “People have seen us as an equipment company for more than a century, and they are now realizing that we are a hightech company as well.”

Senior Vice President of Caterpillar Resource Industries Marc Cameron added: “We help miners unearth materials found in everything from the smartphone displays to batteries for electric vehicles that are exhibited at CES. Caterpillar and our diverse team of talented people are making a positive impact on our world, and CES gives us a platform to showcase our people and growth opportunities within the company.”

Autonomy, technology and sustainability will take center

stage in Caterpillar’s roughly 6,300 sq. ft. exhibit Jan. 5 to 8, 2023. Beyond autonomous haulage, the company will showcase construction and mining safety, fleet management technologies, equipment health options, high-precision guidance technologies and material tracking solutions.

“Our technologies are changing the world by advancing autonomy, finding new ways to keep people safe, improving fleet productivity and building solutions that manage every aspect of an operation,” Tony Fassino, group president of Caterpillar Construction Industries said.

“In addition to the fully autonomous mining trucks, we offer solutions that automate and provide remote operation of dozers, wheel loaders, excavators, and skid steer and compact track loaders. Along with the productivity and safety benefits, automation is another way we can contribute to helping our customers build a better, more sustainable world.”

Caterpillar Exhibit Experience

The exhibit’s centerpiece, the autonomous Cat 777 truck, dwarfs the size of vehicles in nearby automotive displays. Like

autonomous cars, autonomous mining and construction vehicles operate without a driver on board. Further, autonomous mining trucks operate 24/7 in some of the most extreme environments and safely navigate where there are no lane lines to follow.

Four themed experiences help guide attendees through the booth.

• Big Solutions highlights Caterpillar’s leadership in developing the most advanced technologies in the world

• Big Innovation showcases why Caterpillar is a recognized leader in autonomous mining

• BigResponsibility covers how the company’s technologies help build a better, more sustainable world

• Big Opportunities focuses on the people creating the high-tech solutions

Attendees will stand inside the 777’s truck bed and experience the big impact Cat technologies are making in the mining and construction industries, as well as the positive impact mining makes on our world. iPad stations will offer an augmented reality experience with each iPad focusing on a different subject. They include:

• Cat autonomy and technology

• Sustainability and the environment, incorporating safety and power solutions

• Size and scale of mining machines and how technology makes them safer and more productive

• The results of Cat autonomous solutions

Cat Command technologies will be featured in real time, using two remote operating stations connected to equipment hundreds of miles away. One station will remotely operate a Cat large dozer, while the second — a single universal station that can operate multiple types of Cat construction equipment — will be remotely connected to a Cat excavator. Caterpillar experts will be on hand to help attendees learn more about these technologies.

Attendees also will learn how Caterpillar is expanding autonomy to help lead the energy transformation, launching multiple initiatives with customers to develop battery electric vehicles.

“The next frontier for autonomy is helping mines manage power needs as more assets require electricity to operate,” said Johnson.

ExactShot allows farmers to reduce the amount of starter fertilizer needed during planting by more than 60 percent. Thetechnologyusessensorsandroboticstoplacestarterfertilizer precisely onto seeds as they are planted in the soil, rather than applying a continuous flow of fertilizer to the entire row of seeds.

The electric excavator, powered by a Kreisel battery, will provide construction workers and road builders with lower daily operating costs, reduced jobsite noise, enhanced machine reliability and zero emissions, without sacrificing the power and performance they need in a machine.

ExactShot Details

ï ExactShot will help farmers be economically and environmentally sustainable as they work tirelessly to grow the food, fuel and fiber that we all rely on. With the global population expected to grow from 8 billion to nearly 10 billion by 2050, farmers need to increase production by 60 percent to 70 percent on today’s arable land.

ïExactShotusesasensortoregisterwheneachindividual seed is in the process of going into the soil.As this occurs, a

robot will spray only the amount of fertilizer needed, about 0.2ML,directlyontotheseedattheexactmomentasitgoes into the ground.

ï Across the U.S. corn crop, ExactShot could save more than 93 million gallons of starter fertilizer annually and prevent wasted fertilizer from encouraging weed growth or increasing the risk of running off the field into a waterway.

Electric Excavator Details

ï Deere’s new electric excavator, powered by a Kreisel battery, will improve reliability, performance and safety in

construction. Its use on construction sites will result in fewer moving parts, less noise pollution and fewer emissions.

ï Deere acquired a majority stake in Kreisel Electric, which created battery technology for a wide range of mobile and stationary applications. Kreisel’s immersion cooling architecture provides unsurpassed lifetime, enhanced safety and improved performance for battery-powered equipment.

Hamm’s New Compactor Line Replaces H Series

Hamm’s new small compactors line — the HC CompactLine series (EPA Tier IV/EU Stage V engines) — replaces the predecessor H CompactLine series with immediate effect.

The new compacts offer impressive gradeability, improved driving characteristics and a comfortable, spacious cab, according to the manufacturer. The 11,023 and 15,432 lb. machines are extremely easy to operate and offer ergonomically optimized workstations. This also makes them ideal for machine rental.

Powerful Drive

With the HC 50i (11,023 lbs., drum width 53.9 in.) and HC 70i (15,432 lbs, drum width 66.1 in.), the HC CompactLine series comfortably meets the requirements for compact earthwork rollers. Permanent all-wheel drive with anti-slip control and drive motors instead of a rear axle form the basis for exceptionally good gradeability and high ground clearance. The developers also have further improved and stabilized the handling with various adjustments to the chassis.

Short Climbers

Both compactors are extremely short. In particular, the HC 70i is the world’s shortest compactor in this weight class, at 14.4 ft. Combined with the three-point articulation and the extremely short wheelbase, this results in very good driving and handling characteristics, ideal for compaction on narrow construction sites.

Easy Operation

No specific language skills are required to operate the HC CompactLine. The logical arrangement, careful design and clear symbols on the operating elements make manual operations straightforward. The back-lit display ensures unambiguous operation, even in the dark. The arrangement of the steering wheel allows a clear view of and easy access to the dashboard.

Good Visibility, Safety, Comfort

In terms of visibility, the small compactors offer very wide fields of vision in the open version or large window areas in the cab. A camera system with a monitor also can be added. High-quality LED work lighting is included as standard in the cab.

All models in the HC CompactLine series offer convenient access to the ROPS/FOPS cab or to the open platform with ROPS, which is available with or without a protective roof and with the option of adding FOPS.

The space offered by the completely redesigned cab with specially curved windows is unique in this market. In terms of ergonomics, the operator also benefits from the versatile

adjustable seat system and a seat that can be moved to the side, wide-opening windows and draft-free ventilation.

There also are plenty of storage areas, an optional USB connection and comfort options such as a tiltable steering column and an air-conditioning system.

CO Mode Reduces Fuel Consumption

On the small compactors, a modern engine powers the drives and power units. The compactors can operate with either diesel or HVO fuel. The sustainable machine concept includes environmentally friendly and economical operation in ECO mode. This achieves savings by limiting the engine speed.

The parameters have been selected so that most jobs can be done in ECO mode, without sacrificing compaction power. In addition, the optional automatic engine stop reduces diesel consumption. It automatically switches off the engine under certain conditions, e.g. during prolonged downtime. At the same time, the automatic mechanism takes into account the requirements of the exhaust gas purification with diesel particulate filter (DPF).

Variety of Drums

Hamm offers compactors with smooth drums and padfoot drums with vibration. Two-piece padfoot shells can be retrofitted for the smooth drum. Accordingly, Hamm also has a specially designed combination scraper in its range.

The HC 70i also is available with a VIO smooth drum that can compact either with vibration or oscillation. All models of the HC CompactLine also can have a leveling blade added.

Options for Compaction Measurement

Hamm offers the HCM compaction meter for all models of the HC CompactLine, including rollers with VIO drums. The displayed Hamm measurement value provides a gage for the compaction progress.

Hamm has developed the “Smart Doc” app for applica-

tions that require continuous compaction control or continuous or layer-by-layer documentation. It is supplied with process data from the machine via a Bluetooth interface. The app displays the compaction status in the form of graphics on a smartphone or tablet. This enables the driver to identify where and to what degree the substrate has been compacted as they work.

Points of Interest, Including for Rental Companies

Due to their simple operation, multiple adjustments and numerous options, HC CompactLine rollers are ideal for rental. For example, the rear view mirrors can be easily adjusted and cleaned from the cab via split windows.

The new HC CompactLine of small compactors from Hamm are never higher than 118 in. — with the ROPS cab and with ROPS plus a protective roof. All maintenance points are easily accessible.

Other options useful for rental companies include connection to the JD Link telematics system, the telematics interface for automated transfer of machine data, and the electronic battery isolation switch that protects against battery discharge and theft.

Wirtgen Introduces Comfort Cabin for Compact Machines

At the beginning of 2022, Wirtgen celebrated the market launch of its completely redesigned generation of compact milling machines. And now, the company presents another innovation. Alongside efficiency and environmental compatibility, the focus is now set on ergonomics again. For the first time, compact class machines can be fitted

with a comfort cabin.

Theoperator’scabinfortheW100Fi–W 130 Fi models sets new standards when it comes to ergonomics. It offers the operator a comfortable, low-fatigue workplace and provides effective protection against noise emissions. At the same time, the cabin protects the operator when working in all

weather conditions —no matter whether it’s windy, raining, cold or sunny and hot.

The cabin air is cleaned by a filter system andthetemperatureiscontrolledbyanautomatic air conditioning and heating system. The cabin also is constructed as a positivepressuresystemtopreventtheingressofdirt, dust, and hazardous materials into the operator’s workplace. Regardless of the weather conditions, the operator’s workplace always stays dry and clean, also when transporting the machine.

Low-Fatigue Working Environment Promotes Better Concentration

The increased comfort andlowerimpactofenvironmental influences insidethecabineffectively reduce stress and fatigue.

The cabin offers the operator an attractive working environment withmoderncontrolelementsandassistance systems that are unique in this class. This assures that important factors that contribute tosafetyandproductivity, suchasconcentration and physical or mental capabilities, are

not impaired in any way.

The consequences of this are motivated operators, job satisfaction and maximum occupational health and safety. All in all, the best prerequisites for making every day a productive working day, Wirtgen said.

Problem-Free Communication

The comfort cabin for compact milling machines also shows another of its unique strengths when it comes to communication.

The ambient noise level is so low that the operator can make hands-free phone calls from the cabin. For communication on the construction site, the operator can either use a radio headset or open the easily accessible side window to talk with the crew on the ground.

Enclosed Cabin Prevents Vandalism

When closed and locked, the operator’s cabin and all control elements are securely protected against vandalism. There is no longer any need to remove and stow protection covers or open up fold-away control panelsatthestartofworkorviceversaatthe end of the working day.

LawCouldDouble,TripleMarketforBattery-ElectricTrucks

Freight trucks, critical to the U.S. economy, threaten public health and the environment. Semi-trucks are by far the biggest polluters, according to cleantechnica.com. Accounting for 10 percent of trucks on the road, they are responsible for about half of all truck emissions.

The new IRAwill create additional federal funding opportunities for trucks and charging stations. That includes a $40,000 tax credit for electric cargo trucks and a 30-percent credit for chargers.

Federal Relief

The landmark law could double or triple the market for battery-electric trucks to as high as 38 percent of the fleet by 2030, claims cleantechnica.

Another $7.5 billion for chargers was included in last year’s Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act.

“The IRA’s incentives for heavy-duty electric trucks could not come at a better time,” according to research organization RMI. “The United States has more than four million heavy-duty trucks that travel over 150 billion miles and create over 260 million tons of greenhouse gas emissions [GHG] per year.”

The primary purpose of these incentives is to encourage buying and using zero- and low-emission vehicles, said the North American Council for Freight Efficiency (NACFE).

Trucking companies considering capital investments in electric vehicle technology have to wonder if subsidies will disappear before their fleet build-out is complete.

NACFE believes that with growth in subsidies combined with the slow adoption rate of commercial electric vehicles subsidies may be around for the foreseeable future

With the IRA in place, the industry can decarbonize, potentially reducing its GHG emissions by 59 percent in 2035, nearly double what would happen without the IRA, said RMI.

With the IRA tax credit, owning an electric truck is actually cheaper than owning a diesel one in most use cases, finds the research firm. In fact, urban and regional electric trucks will become cost-superior to diesel ones as soon as 2023.

Trucks can travel 100,000 miles per year, and electrification creates significant fuel savings.

“Even many long-haul trucks that are the hardest to electrify could be transformed,” said RMI.

Zero-emissions trucks are already market-tested and viable for many uses. NACFE has proven that trucks with routes less than 200 miles a day can be electrified now.

Adoption hinges on vehicle economics improving and available depot and on-route charging extending the truck’s range.

Boom Prediction

RMI analyzed the economics behind the electric vehicle adoption and how that affects fleet-wide transition.

“Once zero-emissions trucks become cheaper than their diesel counterparts, adoption follows based predominately on vehicle and infrastructure availability.”

The IRA will drive down the total cost of electric truck ownership approximately five years sooner than without the law. This stands for trucks traveling locally from 50 to 100 miles a day, regionally 100 to 250 miles per day round trip and long-haul trucks that travel 250 or more miles between cities, recharging enroute.

Afleet’s purchase decision can be based on environmental commitments, fueling access, financial resources and oper-

ating requirements.

“But for most fleets, cost is the driving concern,” said RMI. “Once electric trucks make the most economic sense for fleets, they increasingly adopt them.”

The IRA jumpstarts a virtuous cycle by bringing about cost parity a lot sooner. Truck owners can start adding charging to their depots and look for e-trucks that meet their operational needs.

In turn, manufacturers of both vehicles and chargers can bring new and better products to market. This, then, will further improve electric truck costs and operational viability, driving even more adoption, believes RMI.

The firm projects the IRA will result in even greater electric truck sales.

“By 2030, more than 60 percent of new truck sales could be electric, depending on supply chain issues,” predicts the company.

At State Level

To facilitate the conversion for trucking companies, California has instituted a Hybrid and Zero-Emission Truck and Bus Voucher Incentive Projects. The program has given out $700 million in rebates for approximately 6,000 zeroemission trucks.

Regionally, organizations such as East Bay Community Energy are offering technical assistance to fleets, as well as loans of up to $3 million to support truck electrification.

“Our organization previously helped fund a program to expand EV charging in Alameda County with the state Energy Commission,” said cleantechnica.

Further, utilizing the power market for charging, truck operators can generate maximum credits under California’s Low Carbon Fuel Standard and earn extra incentives to cut emissions.

The state of Michigan has established a grant program through the Department of Environment, Great Lakes and Energy (EGLE).

“This is an exciting milestone into a future of innovation, cleaner air and reduced GHGs,” said Debra Swartz, fuel transformation specialist in EGLE’s materials management division.

The program allocates $30 million over three years to help replace qualifying diesel engines, vehicles, vessels and equipment.

The program emphasizes areas where air quality is a particular concern: designated nonattainment and maintenance areas for the National Ambient Air Quality Standards, urban counties, high asthma burden areas, and Environmental Justice Areas, according to the state.

Taking advantage of the program is transportation company CMAC. The company will invest in an electric truck to haul auto parts within Wayne, Oakland and Macomb counties, all of which are priority areas.

“We really felt that this made sense for us in more ways than one,” said Scott Christie, CMAC president. “We believe we are well prepared to move down this road with our partners involved.”

He said servicing the automotive companies has given the contractor a firsthand look at the progress and movement in the electric arena. CMAC will scrap the diesel truck being replaced, maximizing the impact of the emissions offset.

The state reports that the replacement should reduce GHGs of nitrogen oxide (NOx) by nearly one metric ton and carbon dioxide equivalent (CO2e) by nearly 597 metric tons over the vehicle lifespan.

In Tennessee, the Department of Environment and

Conservation (TDEC) has awarded 24 organizations more than $9 million in grants to replace medium and large freight trucks. Under the Medium Truck Grant Program, awardees will replace a total of 35 diesel trucks with vehicles representing a mix of power technologies.

The list includes 10 new diesel trucks, two all-electric, 14 hybrid, eight propane and one compressed natural gas.

Recipients of grants in the Large Truck program will replace a total of 42 diesel trucks with 33 new diesel, one allelectric, one hybrid and seven compressed natural gas trucks.

Calculating Investment

The EPAhas created a list of tools and resources available to truckers to understand what’s involved in transitioning to electric technology.

Nationally, the agency’s Diesel Emissions Reduction Act (DERA) Program funds grants and rebates that protect human health and improve air quality.

ChargePoint’s Electric Vehicle (EV) Charging Incentives includes a list of tax credits, rebates and grants provided by governments and utilities for the purchase of and investment in commercial electric vehicles and charging infrastructure.

The DOE’s Alternative Fuels Data Center (AFDC) maintains a comprehensive list of federal and state laws and incentives regarding transportation-related topics, including electric vehicles.

The EPA site offers fleet managers access to calculators for figuring cost of ownership.

Atlas Public Policy’s Assessing Financial Barriers to the Adoption of Electric Trucks features a dashboard tool that explores analysis results.

NACFE offers a guidance report, which discusses the total costs of ownership of medium-duty electric trucks. It also addresses the market status, battery technology, regulatory barriers and the power grid.

The organization’s Excel-based cost of ownership calculator compares investment in diesel or gasoline trucks against battery electric alternatives.

Drivetrain supplier Dana provides similar calculators for diesel and electric vehicles.

Resource information is plentiful, as well. The University of California has produced an overview of hydrogen fuel cell electric, catenary electric, and dynamic inductive charging technologies.

NACFE has available its Annual Fleet Fuel Study — North American Council for Freight Efficiency (2020), which analyzes the adoption of various fleet efficiency products and practices.

A report by the California Electric Transportation Coalition and the Natural Resources Defense Council compares emissions reductions and the total cost of ownership for various alternative fuel technologies.

The U.S. DOE has created a home page for its Vehicle Technologies Office. Links to research for various technology areas, including batteries, charging and electric vehicles, can be found there. NACFE also has a library of guidance reports on the electric truck market. It features business models as well as topics on charging infrastructure and barriers to adoption.

The Luskin Center for Innovation — Transportation at UCLA develops policy recommendations and research to help advance a transition to zero-emission transportation. Topics include vehicle and truck electrification, shared mobility, grid and infrastructure development, accessibility and safety.

Manitou Presents Hydrogen Strategy OverviewWithFirstPrototypeTelehandler

Manitou Group, a world reference in the handling, aerial work platform and earth moving sectors, presents its roadmap for research and development on hydrogen-powered machines, including the first prototype telehandler running on green hydrogen.

Energy Transition Acceleration

With a target of reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 34 percent per hour of use of its machines in 2030, Manitou Group has set off on an ambitious course, in line with the commitments of its low-carbon trajectory communicated in January 2022 and validated by the SBTi in July.

Following on from the recent electrification of its all-terrain platform and telehandler ranges, the group also is looking to hydrogen as a medium-term alternative for its users.

Manitou Group wants to see its electric and hydrogen ranges side by side depending on each user’s applications, with a target of 43 percent low-emissions products marketed in 2030.

Dedicated Hydrogen Development Plan

Manitou Group has presented its new facilities for making its hydrogen development plan a success to journalists and elected representatives. By kitting its test center out with a green hydrogen station, the group now has the means for testing its brand new prototype telehandler.

The first step of this plan involves guaranteeing range and reliability in real-life conditions, while testing the durability of components. The group based this first prototype on an existing model from its range of construction machines, capable of lifting loads up to 14 m. This machine will be tested and sent out to construction sites by the end of 2023 with a view to collecting valuable feedback from users to improve on this prototype.

Two types of hydrogen technology currently are being evaluated by the market, namely the combustion engine and the fuel cell. The group’s first prototype is built around a fuel cell, but the group will choose the hydrogen solutions that best meet the needs of its customers.

Michel Denis, managing director of the group, said, “We are studying all the hydrogen-related technologies based on what users need. This prototype is only the first step. A second rotating telehandler prototype will be developed in the coming months. There are many benefits of green hydrogen with production possible using wind power that has no greenhouse gas emissions at all. This fits in perfectly with our low-carbon trajectory.”

With this first prototype, the group is showcasing its ability to innovate in order to measure the autonomy of this new energy while offering its customers the hydrogen solution that best meets their needs, but without compromising on performance.

Almost 50 engineers and technicians are dedicated to this approach, which was launched in 2021. To come up with an

innovative solution that can be fully industrialized, the group hopes to rely on the support of the public authorities to develop an emerging ecosystem.

Julien Waechter, VP R&D Manitou Group, said “The green hydrogen sector is gradually becoming more established with the entry onto this market of a number of players. All of the aid mechanisms proposed by the different governments will encourage the transition to hydrogen, and will speed up the development of the distribution network and ultimately the reduction in the usage costs of our machines using this energy.”

With these new facilities, Manitou Group hopes to offer its customers new innovative prospects, with a 100 percent hydrogen-powered telehandler available on the market by 2026.

Innovation in DNA

With more than 350 engineers on its workforce, Manitou Group is constantly innovating by offering its users high added-value solutions. To succeed, the group invests in its 10 R&D centers around the world. The modernization of its production units also is essential to ensure this ability to innovate. This is demonstrated by the recent investment plan announced for the production sites in the United States and France.

The most recent aerial work platform factory opened in 2022 clearly illustrates this willingness. Whether it concerns the choice of components, user comfort, or the attachment on the machine, innovation is everywhere.

An autonomous order-picking robot, electric all-terrain platforms and 100 percent electric telehandlers are all examples of innovation. To support this development, the group incorporates engaging CSR criteria from the design stage to develop machines that are increasingly durable and responsible.

Pegasus Link Constructors Solves Dallas Congestion Issues

from page 1

SOVs (single occupancy vehicles) and HOVs (high occupancy vehicles), and general purpose lanes to improve capacity in the corridor; and building structural elements and accommodations for the city of Dallas’ planned deck plaza between Ewing and Marsalis Avenues.

The purpose of the project was to improve safety issues, provide congestion relief, support traffic operations, address roadway deficiencies and improve system linkage.

Project Construction

Pegasus Link Constructors was awarded the project in fall 2017 and construction began in early 2018, with operations proceeding on a 24/7 basis.

“Crews had no major challenges that were unforeseen,” said Tony Hartzel, TDOT’s director of northeast Texas communications. “The job was very challenging to maintain traffic during construction while building the new roadway lanes in a tight right of way footprint. The TxDOT project team worked very closely with the Pegasus Link Constructors team, which also was the design-build contractor on the Horseshoe project in downtown Dallas that finished about five years ago. Any issues were always resolved in a timely manner. The project was completed on time, thanks to the collaboration among all parties.”

The project expanded the roadway in essentially the same footprint.

“The work space was tight, but manageable,” said Hartzel. “Initially, TxDOT anticipated having to acquire more than 12 acres of ROW along the project corridor. In 2015, however, the proposed ROW footprint was modified in order to limit negative construction impacts to the surrounding community. The design change reduced the additional ROW acquisition to just 3.6 acres – roughly a fourth of what was proposed in the original 2003 schematic. This meant that the contractor team had to develop a traffic control plan that would shift lanes safely and allow for all construction to be completed within this limited ROW width."

Crews built lanes out of concrete.

“All bridges were reconstructed along the I-35E portion of the project and widening of existing bridges along the U.S.

67 portion to accommodate the new lanes,” said Hartzel. “All the cross street bridges on I-35E include widened sidewalks and pedestrian accommodations following the city of Dallas’ complete streets plan.”

The initiative was successful due to serious cooperation.

“The project resulted from extensive collaboration in the community before construction, and the success is due to the close collaboration TxDOT has with Pegasus Link Constructors,” said Hartzel. “At its peak, the contractor was maintaining a locally sourced labor force of more than 600 staff and craft employees during the peak of construction and performing $10-to-15 million worth of work in a month.”

“As roadway builders, Pegasus Link Constructors presence in downtown Dallas and southern Dallas County in the past decade testifies to our project team’s commitment to working with our client, TxDOT and project partners to get the job done, on time and within budget,” said DanielYoung, Pegasus’ director of construction. “PLC was able to push through during challenging times and consistently maintain a locally sourced labor force and craft employees during the peak of construction and eventually cross the much-anticipated finish line.”

Leon Blondin, Balfour Beatty U.S.’s CEO, is proud of his company's contribution.

“Congratulations to the Balfour Beatty project team and joint venture partners in providing a long-term, transformative highway solution for one of the fastest-growing metropolitan areas in the nation," he said. "The completion of the Southern Gateway is just another example of our team’s expertise in delivering complex construction projects across the country and our ongoing commitment to achieving our client’s, stakeholders and local communities’ transportation.”

Thomas Nilsson, president of infrastructure business of Fluor, was in agreement.

“This is one of the many vital infrastructure projects to improve the I-35 corridor in Dallas in response to business and population expansion in one of the country’s most dynamic regions,” he said. “The reconstruction provides traffic congestion relief, improved safety and increased mobility. This project builds on Fluor’s history of successful-

ly delivering vital infrastructure in Texas and reinforces the strength of our commitment to our state and local partners.”

Prior to the construction, TxDOT estimated that approximately 192,000 vehicles traveled through southern Dallas County daily.

“I-35E in the Southern Gateway corridor is consistently ranked as one of the most congested roadways in Texas according to the TexasA&M Transportation Institute,” states the project web page.

The construction impacted traffic as I-35E and U.S. 67 are both major corridors to and from southern Dallas County and surrounding cities, but through careful planning, TxDOT kept disruptions to a minimum.

Clear Lanes Initiative

The Texas Clear Lanes program was initiated to reduce congestion throughout the state by focusing planning and construction efforts on the Top 100 Most Congested Roads in major metropolitan areas of Dallas, Ft. Worth,Austin, San Antonio and Houston. Funding for it was approved in 2014 and 2015 by Texas voters.

Thus far $61.3 billion in projects have been completed, are under construction, and in the planning stage.

“More than a dozen projects have been completed statewide, and The Southern Gateway is the fifth North Texas project to be completed," states the press release. “The region has completed $1.2 billion in projects to date, with another $5.1 billion under construction and $3.3 billion in planning.”

State Sen. Royce West is very pleased that Southern Gateway is now a reality.

“The Southern Gateway illustrates how a highway project can help reconnect and enhance communities," he said. “Planning for this project began more than a decade ago, and I appreciate the opportunity to have guided TxDOT's effort to give the community and stakeholders a voice on the final vision that we see today. This project, which finished on time and on budget, will serve southern Dallas well for decades to come.” 

All bridges were reconstructed along the I-35E portion of the project and widening of existing bridges along the U.S. 67 portion to accommodate the new lanes.

Successful

Caterpillar Inc. announced a successful demonstration of its first battery electric 793 large mining truck and a significant investment to transform its Arizona-based proving ground into a sustainable testing and validation hub of the future.

Caterpillar completed development of its first battery electric 793 prototype with support from key mining customers participating in Caterpillar’s Early Learner program. Participants of the program with definitive electrification agreements include BHP, Freeport-McMoRan, Newmont Corporation, Rio Tinto and Teck Resources Limited.

“Our global team came together to develop this battery truck at an accelerated pace to help our customers meet their sustainability commitments,” said Resource Industries Group President Denise Johnson. “This demonstration is a significant milestone, and we are excited for these trucks to get to work at customers’ sites around the world in the near future.”

The Early Learner program launched in 2021 and focuses on accelerating the development and validation of Caterpillar’s battery electric trucks at participating customers’ sites. This approach supports the individual commitments each Early Learner participant has made to reduce and eliminate greenhouse gas emissions from their operations. A primary objective of the program is for Caterpillar to collaborate more closely with its customers as the industry undergoes transformational change through the energy transition.

Early Learner customers came together to witness a live demonstration of Caterpillar’s prototype battery truck on a 4.3-mi. course. During the event, Caterpillar monitored over 1,100 data channels, gathering 110,000 data points per second, to validate simulation and engineering modeling capabilities.

Fully loaded to its rated capacity, the truck achieved a top speed of 37.3 mph. The loaded truck traveled 0.62 mi. up a 10 percent grade at 7.5 mph. The truck also performed a 0.62 mi. run on a 10 percent downhill grade, capturing the energy that would

normally be lost to heat and regenerating that energy to the battery.

Upon completing the entire run, the truck maintained enough battery energy to perform additional complete cycles.

Mine Site of Future

The prototype truck was built at Caterpillar’s Tucson Proving Ground, located in Green Valley, Ariz.

In support of the energy transition, Caterpillar is investing to transform the proving ground into a working, sustainable “mine site of the future” by installing and utilizing a variety of renewable energy sources.

The objective is to implement the same sustainable solutions mining companies will use at their own operations to learn firsthand what it takes to run an electrified mine site and effectively support customers through the changes.

“The transformation of the Tucson Proving Ground allows Caterpillar to demonstrate our energy transition commitments and serve as a stronger advisor to customers as we navigate the changes together. We know it will take an integrated, site-level solution for miners to achieve their carbonreduction goals, and we’re here to help as they redefine the way they mine for generations to come,” said Johnson.

As part of the site transformation, the company will install the latest advancements in sustainability technology, including green hydrogen production, natural gas and 100

percent hydrogen reciprocating engine power generation, fuel cell power generation and expanded energy storage systems. The site also will leverage a variety of renewable power sources, including wind, solar and hydrogen, capable of powering the facility and its products as they become electrified.

The transformation of the facility also will serve as a learning platform for optimizing charging and energy management integration.

Kubota Contributes to Carbon Neutral Lineup With D1105-K Emission Compliance

Kubota has responded to the diverse needs of construction and industrial equipment manufacturers throughout the world, including compliance with the latest emission regulations in each country, with the development of the D1105-K.

Building off the D902-K, Kubota developed the D1105-K engine as a power source complying with the latest European, American and Chinese emission regulations.

“Stricter emission regulations not only in Europe but the rest of the world are currently driving decarbonization demand,” said Tomokazu Matsushita, president of Kubota Engine America.

“The electronic control of Kubota engines finely tune fuel injection to create better fuel efficiency than conventional mechanical engines, which reduces CO2 emissions and make exhaust gas cleaner. For these reasons, Kubota strives to broaden its electronically-controlled small engine lineup.”

The D1105-K engine consists of an 18.5kW (24.8HP) rated output, 3,000 rpm, 3 cylinders and a 1.123Ldisplacement.Also equipped with theTVCR combustion system, the D1105-K engine combines Kubota’s original combustion system with a unique electronic con-

Industry Debut

JCB Unveils Hydrogen Refueller

JCB, developer of the world’s first working construction machines powered by hydrogen, unveiled another world first for the industry — a mobile hydrogen refueller.

JCB is investing in a project to produce super-efficient hydrogen engines and has already showcased working prototypes of a backhoe loader and Loadall telescopic handler powered by hydrogen.

On Oct. 21, the company announced another industry first — a mobile hydrogen refueller, providing a quickand-easy way for customers to refuel their machines on site. Approximately 97 percent of construction machines have fuel delivered to them while working on site. This means customers are already used to a transportable fuel, allowing refuelling to take place in a matter of minutes.

JCB Chairman Lord Bamford, who is leading JCB’s hydrogen project, said, “Since we became the first construction equipment company to unveil machines powered by hydrogen, many have asked how they can be refuelled.

“Well, today we have an answer with our new mobile hydrogen refuelling system, which allows hydrogen to be taken from on-site tube trailers and distributed to machines by our refueller as they work on the job site. This is no different to today when diesel is taken in bowsers to refuel machines.

trol technology developed specifically for small engines. The engine adopts the unique Kubota TVCR combustion system to realize both greater fuel efficiency and a compact size that makes it easy to use as a replacement to conventional Kubota engines, according to the manufacturer.

The D1105-K also utilizes a large oil pan, extending the period between essential regular oil changes up to 500 hours dependent on operating conditions. Overall, this provides better serviceability to reduce the time required for engine maintenance.

In addition to complying with emission regulations worldwide, the D1105-K complies with China’s national smoke regulations, Category .

The new TVCR combustion method reduces black smoke to an invisible level. Moreover, manufacturers can directly mount the ECU to the engine to reduce the burden on the machine design when swapping out the engine, which is expected to reduce the length of develop-

ment.

Manufacturers can easily replace conventional mechanical engines with the D1105-K because specifications, such as the exterior dimensions as well as the position of the intake and exhaust and power take-off, stay the same. It also can reduce the extra labor placed on the design of the main machine generally necessary to install an engine with an electronic control unit, such as designing the installation position and harnesses, because the ECU is mounted directly to the engine.

Additionally, the Controller Area Network (CAN) allows microcontrollers and devices to communicate with one another without a host computer. The electronic control enables use of the CAN communication protocol, which can control engine rotation and torque through signals sent from the vehicles. The CAN also enables the collection of the engine drive data necessary for telematics technology. This data improves drivability and operational efficiency by aggregating the torque characteristics that mechanical control cannot realize to reduce rotation speed under sudden load.

Kubota will contribute to realizing a carbon-neutral society by bolstering its lineup of not only electronicallycontrolled large engines already under way but also electronically-controlled small diesel engines.

“Fossil fuels are not the future and hydrogen is the practical solution to powering our machines in the decades to come. Our British engineers are doing a fantastic job in developing this technology, and there are many more exciting developments to come.”

Ateam of 100 engineers is working on the project. The first hydrogen-powered machine to be unveiled was a JCB backhoe loader, followed a year ago by a Loadall telescopic handler. The technology went on to be shown in the Green Zone at COP26 in Glasgow as world leaders debated measures to drastically reduce greenhouse emissions.

JCB has manufactured engines since 2004, producing them at plants in Derbyshire and in Delhi, India. Last year JCB celebrated a major milestone with the production of its 750,000th engine.

For construction companies of every size, the pandemic accelerated the shift toward hybrid information technology solutions that facilitate both remote and in-office communications between customers and employees.

In the marketplace today, this has increasingly involved mobile and office phones with integrated software that offer sophisticated voice, video, messaging and workforce management capabilities.

This has augmented the complexity of the phone system requirements and presented construction businesses with a plethora of options. Users usually operate from office phones and mobile devices and are working more in and out of the office, so there is a greater demand for forwarding messages to avoid missing calls.

Also, a host of new services beyond calling are often expected such as Short Message Service (SMS)/ Multimedia Messaging Service (MMS), video conferencing, visual voicemail and call recording. On top of all this, the phone system is increasingly connected through APIs to existing company systems such as contact centers, workforce management, and Customer Relationship Management systems (CRMs), so important data can be monitored and evaluated in various ways.

The challenge for construction companies, however, has been dealing with issues of quality and integration, along with constantly escalating provider prices and add-on fees that can end up costing over $70 per user each month. When managers need the services to stay operational but do not have the time or inclination to sort through complex billing, they can feel like a captive of their technology provider.

“Today, construction business owners feel besieged with all the software-as-a-service fees, which constantly creep upwards, never downwards in cost. They are enticed with low offers to start, and then the price doubles or triples on renewal or any changes,” said Eric Brackett, president of BTI Communications Group, a technology convergence provider serving the business and logistics sectors. The company acts as a single-source provider of complex phone (VoIP), network, and physical security systems, down to installation of wiring and conduit as well as cybersecurity monitoring and protection.

“Bait-and-switch phone system pricing is a huge burden on construction businesses when it becomes overhead and an operating expense,” he added. “Instead, managers want to capitalize the full cost over a few years or own the system with minimal operating expense.”

In addition, construction businesses prefer a phone system that includes access to every service option from the start, whether used or not, at a low fixed monthly rate, which eliminates extra fees and complexity.

“Business owners and managers appreciate having only one line item on the bill that covers everything. When the prices don’t

change for a fixed period, this eliminates the issue of escalating expenses and surprise addon costs,” said Brackett.

He noted that such a system can improve both the customer and employee experience by integrating web services including voice, video, SMS/MMS, smartphone and PC, as well as contact center, CRM and workforce management.

“Today, a construction business phone system needs to enable working from anywhere, whether at the office, at home, or on the go, and offer the full breadth of communication technologies,” said Brackett.

He added that some of the more advanced marketplace options are now easier than ever to incorporate and use. These allow business employeestousetheirownsmartphoneswithout purchasing new equipment since the service functions with almost every cellular provider. To streamline use, a web portal can enable users to take control and easily manage the entire system through a simple interface.

Video conferencing also facilitates collaboration anywhere on any device, and some or all calls can be recorded and retrieved as needed.

Optimizing Business Telecom

Astral Energy of Montvale, N.J., buys energy wholesale and sells it retail to more than 15,000 businesses in the B2B market. Ashton Fox, chief operating officer of Astral Energy, sought a more robust, stable solution than his existing telecom service provided.

“Many of our customers work off their smartphones on the road so texting and multimedia messaging is important to communicate with them. If our customers struggle to reach us or we are challenged to reach them because of our phone system, it doesn’t work,” said Fox.

“We were running into some issues with our provider’s call quality, SMS and MMS service, and technical support,” he added. “We also wanted better pricing transparency. We didn’t want to find out that we really needed a certain feature later and be asked to pay more for it every month, which would impact our budget.”

As a solution, Fox and Astral Energy turned to a new option in the business market called GoodPhone by BTI that provides complete web, voice, video, SMS, MMS, CRM, contact center, and workforce management service and integration for customers and employees.

The service functions on smartphones and

office phones, as well as on PCs used as phones.

Complete phone service with all the needed options costs a flat monthly rate of less than $25/user. For the contracted period, each user can utilize an unlimited number of phones as part of the same flat rate. Phones also can be rented or purchased from BTI, or existing VoIP devices used.

When employees use their personal smartphone by downloading the GoodPhone App, they no longer need to give out their personal cell information to handle business calls. Instead, they can provide clients with one office number to reach them, and make or take calls from their web phone, mobile app or desk phone while always displaying the office number.

“Employees only give out one business number and all calls and texts stay within the GoodPhone portal on their smartphone or PC app. If a customer calls their number and they don’t answer it on their smartphone, the call can be routed to the company voicemail, not their personal voicemail,” explained Brackett.

The service also allows businesses to text promotions and contact customers via SMS and MMS messages, as well as track the responses. Employees can monitor messages and set auto-responses with customized text from one account. The service facilitates resolving customer issues by enabling the search of text archives with a 360-degree view of customer interactions.

When video conferencing is required, the service currently allows up to 1,000 people to participate and up to 25 to share a screen.

Fox is very pleased not only with the ease of implementing the GoodPhone service but also its quality and reliability.

“The phones shipped to our office were already programmed, so I just had to plug them in. They essentially handed me a turnkey system,” said Fox.

Fox appreciates that the technology integrator is not just a phone company, which he believes has helped improve system dependability.

“The system is far more global and robust than what we had previously. It is very reliable, and we don’t have any issues. In a year we had less than 20 minutes of downtime, and they were very responsive in getting that resolved,” he said.

Fox credits the telecom service for easing his duties as a manager and COO. GoodPhone facilitates monitoring and managing the workforce from anywhere, and

includes a web phone and smartphone app, a call statistics/call center dashboard, and realtime as well as historical reporting.

“As a manager, the way I can see and manage the whole backend is important. Unlike many apps, the mobile app actually works and does not just direct you to a website or browser. I’m able to do virtually everything I can do on a desktop inside the app,” said Fox.

“I’m able to manage my team more effectively with the service,” he added. “For instance, if there’s an issue with a customer on a phone call, I can quickly pull the recording on my phone to help resolve it.”

Other businesses also are finding value in simplifying the complexity of their phone systems at a low, flat monthly rate.

Market Contracting Services, a construction firm in Chicago, Ill., had remodeled its facility and planned to purchase costly landline phones for the office, but reconsidered when its technology integrator suggested a better option, according to Esmeralda Macias, the firm’s office manager.

“With the new VoIP smartphones BTI has available, we don’t have to pay for landlines. We can see everything online now through a portal, so can view all incoming and missed calls,” she said.

According to Macias, employees no longer have to sit at a desk to take calls since they can do so anywhere they have an internet connection.

“Even after hours, we can transfer calls to our smartphones. This has translated into better customer support and more sales,” she said.

From a budgetary perspective, the VoIP phone system also has a success. The system not only eliminates current carrier bills, but also includes unlimited local and domestic long distance.

“The landline phones and service were going to cost a lot more. By implementing GoodPhone, we are already way ahead financially — and we are just getting started with using the capabilities of the VoIP phones,” she said.

Business telecom systems have long been complex and costly, leading to user frustration. However, with greater choice in the marketplace today, construction businesses that integrate essentially all required telecom services through VoIP phones at a low, fixed cost can streamline their operations and gain a competitive advantage.

Electronic Access

tion offering greater accessibility for its user friendly and cost-effective electronic ticket system. The system employs barcode scanning of material loads at pickup and drop off, with signatures and tickets generated instantly and synchronized for access from a desktop computer in real time.

"We are excited to announce the release of our new Android smartphone app for TicketWatch. This app offers greater convenience, affordability and shorter startup time,” said John Desjardine, president and CEO of TicketWatch.

Every ticket is dated and time stamped,

so there is no more waiting on drivers to turn in tickets, eliminating the need for paper tickets. It provides complete load processing with greatly increased record keeping speed, accuracy and documentation over typed or handwritten tickets.

The TicketWatch system offers improved load tracking and the ability to better manage drivers and analyze data anytime, anywhere. TicketWatch LLC offers system start up and customization with onsite training and technical support at no charge for as long as needed by the client.

“We have used TicketWatch on two successive excavation contracts requiring roughly650,000cubicyardsofmaterialto be hauled offsite,” said a representative

from Earth Builders LP, a TicketWatch client. “In real time we were able to record and verify more than 50,000 loads ensuring that we were paid for every load and weren’t charged for loads that we didn’t haul. This was done using two cell phones syncing to the TicketWatch database in real time. Driver tickets were printed onsite with mobile printers, and we were able to check production in real time from the office.

“Using TicketWatch we were able to give the project owner confidence that they received the material they were paying for and gave us the ability to verify that we were not paying contract haulers for phantom loads. TicketWatch proved to be a simple and effective way to monitor over 500 loads per shift.”

Volvo Unveils Equip. Leases

Volvo Construction Equipment has launched a new financing option for the company’s electric compact equipment that simplifies the ownership experience.

This all-inclusive leasing package bundles charging, maintenance, repairs and more — while also providing a better deal compared with items purchased separately.

How It Works

Available in the United States and Canada through Volvo Financial Services (VFS), the process to set up an all-inclusive lease for electric machines is the same as with other Volvo CE machines. Customers will work with their local Volvo CE dealer and VFS to set the length of the contract, determine how many hours each machine could operate, and negotiate monthly payments.

Then, within the all-inclusive package, customers also get:

• An equipment maintenance plan to help ensure the electric machines stay up and running as they should. Lessees will have the option to bring machines into their Volvo dealer location for maintenance or have a dealer come to them.

• Extended coverage for repairs, beyond the factory warranty period. This helps limit some risk by covering machines for a longer time.

• Physical damage insurance (currently only available in the United States) in the

event of a covered accident happening that causes damage to the machine.

• The option to finance a charger alongside the lease with a single monthly payment. The chargerispurchased, notleased, butit’sfinanced within the same terms and rates as the complete package. As an example, if you sign up for a 48-month lease, you have the option to pay for your charger in 48 monthly payments as well. And because it’s bundled, you’ll only make one payment per month to VFS.

• Save money on the bundle of electric compact machines. This could be up to 15 percent less on the monthly payment than acquiring items separately, depending on the dealership — and is only available through the all-inclusive lease.

Another benefit is that the leasing packages come with a simplified early termination option at 24 months.

Getting Started

To explore financing options, customers can visit the Volvo electric machine site, select the model they’re interested in, and use the “build and quote” tool to configure the model to their needs. If they select the financing application in the tool, a dealer will follow up with them. Customers also can reach out to their local Volvo dealer for a quote.

Caterpillar Unveils Newest Prototype Batteries for Off-Highway Equipment

As part of the company’s enterprise strategy to support customers during the energy transition to a lower-carbon future, Caterpillar announced the development of 48-volt, 300-volt, and 600-volt batteries for the off-highway industry.

Leveraging expertise across Caterpillar’s global network of technical centers in the United States, U.K., China and India, the program focuses initially on battery solutions for equipment used predominantly in industrial applications.

The battery range uses lithium-ion technology and features a modular design to optimize performance and packaging. Furthermore, they have been engineered with sustainability in mind throughout their lifecycle, with the potential to reuse and recycle at the end of life, according to the manufacturer.

The development program also encompasses inverters, motors, electronic controls, digital services and other critical technologies to deliver the performance, reliability, durability, maintainability and long-term value needed for equipment buyers working in harsh operating environments.

Caterpillar will showcase prototypes of its battery technologies in hall A4, stand 336 at bauma 2022, which will be held Oct. 24 to 30 in Munich, Germany.

“Caterpillar has demonstrated a long-standing commitment to sustainability through improvements in our operations and by helping our customers achieve their climaterelated goals,” said Steve Ferguson, senior vice president Caterpillar Industrial Power Systems.

“Today’s announcement of our battery program is our latest step in combining a wide-ranging inventory of innovations with extensive knowledge of the off-highway industry to offer solutions for a range of power needs, application types, duty cycles and operating environments.”

Caterpillar’s Long-Standing Commitment to Sustainability

Caterpillar has committed that 100 percent of its new products through 2030 will be more sustainable than the previous generation, which is reflected in Caterpillar’s lineup of industrial-power solutions and integrated services finely tuned for owners of third-party equipment powered by Cat engines.

“Improved sustainability is a journey, not a destination, and one size doesn’t fit all in determining the appropriate power solution for equipment owners,” Ferguson said.

“Our offerings can help customers and end users start improving the sustainability of their operations today through high-efficiency engines, fuels and digital solutions now available for the job site, by extending value and reducing waste over the lifecycle of equipment they already own, and by powering the next generation of equipment with innovations precisely configured for the job site.”

Caterpillar supplies a wide spectrum of solutions and expertise that helps customers achieve their goals for a lowcarbon future.

• Caterpillar offers a full lineup of diesel engines from 11 hp (8.2 kW) to 2,100 hp (1,566 kW) that meet EU Stage V and U.S. EPA Tier IV Final emission standards while delivering superior performance and low operating costs.

• Cat diesel engines can run on renewable liquid fuels and have accommodated the use of biodiesel and HVO for over a decade. In June, Caterpillar announced that Cat C-Series engines used to power Sandvik Mobile Crushers and

Caterpillar is developing 48-volt, 300-volt, and 600-volt (pictured) batteries that support industrial-power customers during the energy transition to a lower-carbon future.

Screeners can run on renewable and alternative fuels including hydrotreated vegetable oil (HVO) certified to EN15940 or ASTM D975*. (*Fuels must meet the specifications and characteristics described on cat.com in order to be used in Cat engines and reduce the risk of downtime.)

• Caterpillar offers an integrated suite of connected solutions that provide exceptional visibility and actionable intelligence to optimize engine efficiency.

• The global Cat dealer network provides a full suite of proactive fleet maintenance and services backed by genuine Cat parts to help maximize efficiency and sustainability over the lifecycle of equipment.

• Cat dealers offer a complete range of remanufacturing and rebuild options that return components at the end of their initial serviceable lives to like new condition, reducing waste and minimizing the need for raw materials, energy and water to produce new parts.

• Caterpillar is leveraging proven expertise across the broad spectrum of market segments, applications, and new power technologies including battery-electric and hydrogen prototypes to recommend the ideal low carbon-intensity power solution for equipment owners.

Yoder & Frey Prepares for Its Kissimmee 2023Auction

Yoder & Frey is ready for business and getting set for its 49th world famous Winter Auction in Kissimmee, Fla., on Feb. 15 to 18, 2023.

It’s nearly 50 years since Yoder & Frey held the very first auction in Kissimmee, Fla., which has since become the most iconic yearly event in the U.S. used machinery market. The Florida Winter Sale continues to attract buyers and sellers from not just across the United States, but from a truly global audience.

In 2017, Yoder & Frey merged with the Euro Auctions group, who are leading auctioneers of heavy machinery and construction equipment in Europe, and operate from four European sites, plus the Middle East, Australia, and with Yoder & Frey, the United States.

Since 1964, Yoder & Frey has been conducting unreserved auctions of heavy construction equipment, trucks and trailers right across America. Yoder & Frey was the founder of the Kissimmee Florida Winter ConsignmentAuction, which has taken place every February since 1975, and where up to 500,000 lots have gone under the hammer attracting consignors and buyers from all 50 U.S. states and almost 70 countries.

This is now one of the world’s largest annual heavy construction equipment auctions.

Joe Thurston, the territory manager of the state of Florida, said, “It is amazing to think that we’ve been hosting and attending this auction for nearly 50 years. For Kissimmee #49 and talking to our consignors the inventory is growing. We are consigning an eclectic inventory of all types of equipment and machines to this sale and finding good multiples of late and low hour machines.

“In addition, Yoder & Frey continues to expand the business brand in the U.S., with the acquisition of a new purpose-built auction facility, in Sealy, Texas, 60 miles to the

west of Houston, just off the I-10.

“With a yard totaling of 57 acres total, 25,000 sq. ft. of offices and 32,000 sq. ft. of workshops and buildings, this state-of-theart facility will operate as the main auction site for Yoder & Frey in the south.”
