The Parking Spot — Coming Soon to Salt Lake City Airport

The Parking Spot will provide a value-added parking option for Salt Lake City International Airport fliers. The privatelyowned, near-airport parking business is designed for the comfort of air travelers who want a more efficient way to park their cars and get to their flights in an efficient and timely manner.

Groundbreaking for the Parking Spot, located at 123 South, 2400 West, was held in April of this year.

The project is expected to be completed by the end of 2018.

The Salt Lake City Parking Spot is about 2 mi. from Salt Lake City International Airport, just off Interstate 80 and Interstate 215 in the Salt Lake Valley. Travelers can take either freeway to access the Parking Spot location.

The Parking Spot Salt Lake City is part of a fast-growing enterprise.

Since being founded in 1998, the Parking Spot has grown to be the leading near-airport parking company in the United States. “To help guests identify where their vehicle is located, we distribute ticket stubs with the row and spot number on them, or they can

download our mobile app, which includes a car locator feature,” said John Lyon, senior vice president of development and acquisitions for The Parking Spot.

The project’s development team includes Big D Construction of Salt Lake City as general contractor and Kimley Horn Associates of Raleigh, N.C., as project engineer and architect.

The Parking Spot project is not

Campus Undergoing Transformation at U of U Hospital

The campus transformation project will help the University of Utah Health system expand its position as a nexus of collaboration for experts in health professions, technology, and basic and translational science.

University of Utah Health is undergoing new expansions that will let it better serve the growing population of Utah and better train the next generation of health care professionals. The new buildings will improve science, training and care services to bring world-class health to more patients in Utah and beyond.

Ambulatory Care Complex University of Utah Health’s new Ambulatory Care Complex (or ACC) will be a 305,000 sq.-ft. facility that will serve more than 100,000 new patients each year and serve as some of the clinical training grounds for the next generation. It will be located south of University of Utah Hospital, across from the Medical Center TRAX Station. It will be accessible from the main hospital entrance as well as the parking garage.

Once it’s built, the new Ambulatory Care Complex will create more convenient access for patients with seamless transitions between providers. The ACC will mostly serve outpatients — patients who don’t need to be admitted to the hospital for a procedure — and also will house two new floors of inpatient services, creating greater access for patients who need higher levels of care.

Not everyone needs to be cared for in the hospital. The new ACC will allow service to more patients with leading-edge care that, in many cases, will allow them to go

home the same day.

The Ambulatory Care Complex is scheduled to be completed in late 2019.

Craig H. Neilsen Rehabilitation Hospital Patients going through rehabilitation have unique needs. They also need an expert, caring team of health providers giving specialized care to make sure they have the best recovery possible.

The Craig H. Neilsen Rehabilitation Hospital will be the preeminent destination in the Mountain West for patients recovering from and adjusting to lifealtering injuries and conditions.

With 150,000 sq. ft., this advanced facility will be a restorative and healing environment designed to speed recovery and improve quality of life for patients after they

return home.

This new building will provide modern rehabilitation services, including access to renowned physicians, an outdoor therapy terrace, a large therapy gym and inpatient beds with sweeping views of the Salt Lake Valley.

The rehabilitation hospital is scheduled to be completed in late 2019.

Students, faculty and industry partners will come together here to create, test and implement solutions to health care’s most challenging problems The medical education and discovery building is scheduled to be completed in 2022.

Passengers Will Have More Parking Options at SLC Airport AIRPORT from page 1

To keep pace with the demand, the Salt Lake City Department of Airports, along with Salt Lake City, have embarked on a 10-year, $3.1B project to replace the current Salt Lake City International Airport with a new airport that highlights Utah’s beauty, while cutting down on energy costs.

Construction on the first phase of the project, the Airport Redevelopment Program, began in the summer of 2014. Big-D Construction teamed with Holder Construction of Atlanta to create Holder–Big-D, A Joint Venture.

Plans for the Airport Redevelopment Program Project call for a new long-term parking lot, new rental car facilities consisting of new quick turn around and new service buildings; new terminal and concourse; new 3,600 stall parking structure; new central utility plant; new apron paving, taxi lanes and taxiway intersection lighting; extensive site and utility work including removals; lift stations; demolition of existing airport facilities; and sustainable design to achieve LEED Gold certification.

Construction on the Airport Redevelopment Program is expected to be complete in the fall of 2024.

Mayor Urges Residents to Vote on $87M Streets Bond

Mayor Jackie Biskupski praised Salt Lake City Council Members for approving a bond election to let voters decide whether to approve an $87 million bond to repair and replace streets. The bond election will be held in November.

Mayor Biskupski campaigned on a promise to improve city streets. In her January 2018 State of the City address, she laid out her vision and gave a call to action to fix roads to “help us get around better” and “clear the air.”

A 2017 pavement condition survey found two-thirds of Salt Lake City streets are in poor or worse condition. The financial impact of the new bond would be dampened because Salt Lake City will retire two bonds in 2019 for the Main Library and The Leonardo. If voters approve the bond, an average homeowner would pay less than $5

each year in taxes.

Salt Lake City conducted a poll and found 72 percent of registered voters support the bond. The majority of supporters said the biggest reason they want the bond is to improve bad road conditions. After learning more about how the funding would be used, overall support for the bond increased to 79 percent.

“Voters now have the ability to decide whether to pay a little now or pay much more later to improve our deteriorating roads,” said Mayor Biskupski. “I urge residents to study the bond, make an informed decision and then vote on the future of Salt Lake City streets.”
