AGC: Jacobsen Crews ‘Advocates, Problem Solvers’ On Jobs Salt Lake City-based Jacobsen Construction recently took home distinguished honors for its work in the Beehive State.

The AGC of Utah named the local contractor the Utah Division of Facilities Construction and Management (DFCM) Contractor of the Year in recognition of the firm’s work in the public sector.

The award presenters described Jacobsen’s project teams as “advocates,” “problem solvers” and “team players” who go “above and beyond” in their work and demonstrate “great communication.”

“Jacobsen Construction [project teams have] proven to be champions of the state standards and advocates for their clients,” the presentation said. “They understand the need for — and benefit of — building cohesive project teams, which lead to best results for all parties. They manage project costs and schedules with excellent accuracy. Their management of unforeseen and unknown conditions results in little to no impact to project schedules or budgets. Overall, Jacobsen’s teams make projects successful from all points of view.”

Awards for Projects Three projects completed by Jacobsen within the last year also received distinguished industry recognition from the AGC of Utah.

The winning Jacobsen projects are the Mid-Valley Performing Arts Center in the Cultural category, the Architectural Nexus Office Remodel in the Green Building category and the University of Utah NBICU Ronald McDonald Family Space in the Health Care category.

“There is a strong demand in our community for highquality performing arts space,” said Doug Carley, Jacobsen Construction’s project manager overseeing the work at the site. “This venue will enrich people's quality of life for many decades to come.”

Architectural Nexus Office Remodel Category: Green Building Category Winner Location: Salt Lake City, Utah Cost: $5.3 Million Architect: Architectural Nexus The Architectural Nexus Office Remodel was a renovation of 30,000 sq. ft. of office space for the Salt Lake City headquarters of one of Utah’s architecture firms. The project added a sustainable gray water system used to flush toilets and for irrigation of planter walls (“living walls”), a highly efficient HVAC system, photovoltaic roofing and covered parking that provide net positive energy and an interior courtyard to the headquarters. The project is notable for aiming to become the first certified commer-

cial living building in Utah and one of only a few dozen such buildings worldwide, pending a year of proven sustainability performance from the building while it’s in operation.

University of Utah NBICU Ronald McDonald Family Space Category: Health Care Category Winner Location: Salt Lake City, Utah Cost: $1.3 Million Architect: MHTN Architects The Ronald McDonald Family Space adjacent to the NBICU at University of Utah Hospital was designed and built to help the parents of young patients feel at home, and to spend time with their infant child while also navigating day-to-day life. 

Construction Commences On State’s Brand New Temple Construction activity is in full swing at the Lindon Utah Temple site where heavy machinery is clearing and grading the ground ahead of excavation for the temple foundation. A chain-link construction fence has been erected around the entire site and trailers have been set up on the northwest extension of the property.

The temple will be constructed adjacent to Oak Canyon Junior High School and in the vicinity of Rocky Mountain Elementary. It also will be near a Latter-day Saint meetinghouse and a few blocks from the church’s Lindon Shared-Stake Family History Center.

The temple is one of three under construction in Utah County — the others being the Saratoga Springs Utah Temple and the Orem Utah Temple.

A ceremonial groundbreaking for the Lindon Utah Temple was performed on Saturday, April 23, 2022. The meeting portion of the event was held in a nearby meetinghouse where Elder Kevin W. Pearson, president of the Utah Area, presided and conducted.

“May the construction of Thy holy house here in Lindon continue to bless this community with peace, love and unity,” said Pearson.

Shovelfuls of dirt were turned under a tent on the temple site at 800 East and Center Street in Lindon.

The three-story structure will be approximately 81,000 sq. ft.

The Lindon Utah Temple was announced in October 2020 by Church President Russell M. Nelson.

The three-story temple is the seventh temple in Utah County.

Utah, the Church’s world headquarters, is home to 2.2 million members, approximately two-thirds of the state’s population of 3.4 million people. The Beehive state has 28 temples announced, under construction, under renovation or in operation. The other temples include the Bountiful, Brigham City, Cedar City, Deseret Peak, Draper, Ephraim, Heber Valley, Jordan River, Layton, Lindon, Logan, Manti, Monticello, Mount Timpanogos, Ogden, Oquirrh Mountain, Orem, Payson, Provo City Center, Provo, Red Cliffs, Salt Lake, Saratoga Springs, Smithfield, St. George, Syracuse, Taylorsville and Vernal Utah Temples. 

Ground Breaks On Utah’s Second Topgolf Location Construction has begun on Topgolf's newest location in Utah County just south of Salt Lake City.

Located just west of I-15 at the intersection of Mill and 400E, Topgolf's new, twostory venue will join a growing entertainment and restaurant development in Vineyard where players can enjoy all the fun while taking in the beautiful views of the Wasatch Mountain Range.

The Topgolf venue, set to open in early 2023, will include 72 signature outdoor hitting bays and will be equipped with Topgolf's proprietary Toptracer technology to accurately trace the flight path of the golf ball.

Toptracer is the a ball-tracing technology used in the golf industry and is the same technology seen on TV while watching major golf tournaments. The venue also will feature a mini-golf attraction, outdoor patio, and meeting and event space. Conveniently located in the heart of Utah County, Topgolf will be a must-visit experience for families, community residents, local businesses and nearby college students. This will be Topgolf's second entertainment venue in the

state of Utah, as the company known for its high-tech gaming experience and delicious food and beverages also operates in Midvale.

“The growing Vineyard area is such a vibrant community we have been looking forward to serving, and we can't wait to open our doors early next year," said Topgolf Chief Development Officer Chris Callaway.
