Road Expansion Tackles San Antonio Traffic, Growth Due to growth in the San Antonio area over the past decade, the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) initiated a project to improve the State Highway 151 corridor between Loop 1604 and Interstate 410 in Bexar County — specifically designed to increase mobility, enhance safety and reduce congestion. Key aspects of the project include: • increasing the number of travel lanes to six (three in each direction eastbound/westbound); • adding inside shoulders and a concrete median barrier; • improving entrance and exit ramps, intersections and frontage roads; • adding turnarounds on Military Drive West, Westover Hill Boulevard and Wisemen Boulevard; and • adding a direct connector from westbound SH 151 to NB 1604 for easy access to westbound 1604 northbound. In addition to expanding the route with extra lanes, the project will update existing infrastructure. SH 151, also known as the Raymond E. Stotzer Jr. Freeway (district supervisor for TxDOT), is a 10.7-mi. road between Loop 1804 and U.S. 90 in San Antonio that provides access to the western part of the city, the SeaWorld San Antonio theme park,

State Unveils $138B 10-Year Transportation Investment Plan
Gov. Greg Abbott announced on Aug. 26, 2026, a new 10-year transportation plan with a total projected investment of $138 billion. The plan by the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) will improve safety, reduce congestion and strengthen the supply chain. “Texas’ booming economy and growing population demand a transportation system
that keeps people and products moving safely and efficiently,” Abbott said. “This $138 billion investment will strengthen our roadways, reduce congestion, improve safety, and support growing communities across Texas. By investing in critical infrastructure today, we are building a bigger, better Texas for generations to come.” “Working closely with our transportation partners and incorporating input from
