Road construction crews are hard at work across the state of Louisiana on several projects to improve Interstate 10, one of the South’s busiest vehicle and freight corridors. In the Bayou State, the highway stretches 274
miles across the lower third of Louisiana from the Texas border east through Lake Charles, Lafayette, Baton Rouge and New Orleans, before turning northeast to Mississippi. Built in stages throughout the 1960s and ‘70s, I-10 rapidly became an essential road for residents and travelers alike. But the Louisiana freeway also serves as an important part of a coast-
to-coast interstate designed to efficiently move freight across the country from Jacksonville, Fla., to Los Angeles. And when hurricanes move up through the Gulf of Mexico and strike the low-lying state, as has happened frequently in recent years, I-10 becomes an evacuation route for folks trying to see I-10 page 28

Analysis: Nearly 231,000 U.S. Bridges Need Major Repair Nearly 231,000 U.S. bridges need major repair work or should be replaced, according to an American Road & Transportation Builders Association (ARTBA) analysis of the just released U.S. Department of Transportation’s 2019 National Bridge Inventory (NBI) database. That figure represents 37 percent, or more than a third, of all U.S. bridges. If placed end-to-end, the length of these bridges would stretch over 6,300 miles — long enough to make a round trip across the country from New York City to Los Angeles and back again to Chicago. American drivers cross these bridges 1.5 billion times per day — representing onethird of all daily bridge crossings, according to the data. More than 46,000 of those bridges are “structurally deficient” and in poor condition. They are crossed 178 million times a day. An additional 81,000 bridges should be replaced, said ARTBA Chief Economist Alison Premo Black, who led the team conducting the analysis. One third of Interstate highway bridges (18,177 spans) have identified repair needs. The report comes as Congress and the Trump administration continue working on
measures to respond to the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic. ARTBA said once policy makers shift from a rescue focus to economic recovery, robust transportation infrastructure investments have comprehensive benefits. “Economic recovery from coronavirus begins with strategic road and bridge improvements,” ARTBA President Dave Bauer said. “Increased transportation investments support direct job creation and retention, while putting in place capital assets that will enhance U.S. productivity for decades to come.” Bauer noted the transportation construction industry is not seeking federal assistance, but it should be part of the solution. He said the Senate Environment & Public Works Committee’s July 2019 unanimously approved five-year highway reauthorization bill should be the starting point for discussions. “The sooner we invest in robust new transportation improvements the sooner the American people will experience the economic benefits,” Bauer said. ARTBA estimates the cost to make the identified repairs for all 231,000 bridges in the United States at nearly $164 billion, based on average cost data published by
the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA.) The number of structurally deficient bridges declined by 900 compared to 2018. “At the current pace, it would take more than 50 years to repair America’s structurally deficient bridges,” Black, the chief economist, said. “Our bridge network is underfunded and should be modernized. State and local government just haven’t been given the necessary financial resources to fully address the problem.” Rankings States with the most structurally deficient bridges as a percent of their total bridge inventory, are: Rhode Island (22.3 percent); West Virginia (21 percent); Iowa (19 percent); South Dakota (17 percent); Pennsylvania (15.3 percent); Louisiana (13.2 percent); Maine (12.8 percent); Puerto Rico (12.3 percent); Michigan (10.8 percent); and North Dakota (10.7 percent). States with the largest actual number of structurally deficient bridges are: Iowa (4,575 bridges); Pennsylvania (3,501); Illinois (2,407); Oklahoma (2,352); Missouri (2,147); California (1,797); New York (1,745); North Carolina (1,714); Louisiana (1,701); and West Virginia
(1,531). While these bridges may not be imminently unsafe, they need attention. Over 69,500 bridges across the country are “posted for load” which means there are weight restrictions or other measures in place to reduce stress on the structure. Over the last five years, Pennsylvania has reduced the number of its structurally deficient bridges by 1,200. Other states with large decreases: Oklahoma (753); Indiana (467); Ohio (412) and Virginia (391). In 12 states, the number of structurally deficient bridges increased over the five years, including: West Virginia (plus 472); Illinois (260); Florida (131); Missouri (80) and Montana (77). Structurally Deficient Bridges Notable structurally deficient bridges include New York City’s Brooklyn Bridge; Washington, D.C.’s Theodore Roosevelt bridge; the San Mateo-Hayward bridge crossing San Francisco Bay – the longest bridge in California; Florida’s Pensacola Bay Bridge; and the Vicksburg Bridge in Mississippi. disposition services director. “We are working closely with our partners to ensure items get to those that need them. GovPlanet has done an inventory of all items they have acquired from us to find anything that may be useful to the pandemic response efforts.” Ritchie Bros.’ GovPlanet marketplace has been working with the US DoD and DLA since 2014. “Since mid-March, we have pulled more than 12,000 N95 medical masks from our inventory and returned them to the Defense Logistics Agency for redistribution to the frontline employees who need them,” said Doug Feick, senior vice president, government services, Ritchie Bros. “We continue to monitor all incoming inventory to determine additional high-priority items that may be of use.” For more information about GovPlanet, visit GovPlanet.com.

The U.S. Department of Labor’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) announced an interim enforcement response plan for the coronavirus pandemic on April 14. The response plan provides instructions and guidance to OSHA area offices and compliance safety and health officers (CSHOs) for handling coronavirus-related complaints, referrals and severe illness reports. During the coronavirus outbreak, OSHA area offices will utilize their inspection resources to fulfill mission essential functions and protect workers exposed to the disease. The response plan contains interim procedures that allow flexibility and discretion for field offices to maximize OSHA’s impact in securing safe workplaces in this evolving environment. “OSHA is committed to protecting the health and safety of America’s workers during this challenging time in our nation’s history,” Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary Loren Sweatt said. “Today’s guidance out-
lines commonsense procedures for investigating complaints related to the coronavirus, while also ensuring the safety of workers, employers, and inspectors.” The response plan outlines procedures for addressing reports of workplace hazards related to the coronavirus. Fatalities and imminent danger exposures related to the coronavirus will be prioritized for on-site inspections. The response plan contains procedures and sample documentation for CSHOs to use during coronavirus-related inspections. Workers requesting inspections, complaining of coronavirus exposure, or reporting illnesses may be protected under one or more whistleblower statutes and will be informed of their protections from retaliation. This memorandum will take effect immediately and remain in effect until further notice. It is intended to be time-limited to the current public health crisis. Check OSHA’s webpage at www.osha.gov/coronavirus frequently for updates.

Vermeer Makes Positive Impact During COVID-19 Crisis When adversity strikes, it’s easy to see what you can’t control. It’s far more difficult to recognize what you can control. The toughest task of all, however, is figuring out how to respond accordingly. For Jason Andringa and his colleagues at Vermeer Corporation, a concerted effort to remain focused on what can be controlled has been critical to the Pella, Iowa-based equipment manufacturer and AEM member company’s ability to weather the now weeks-long COVID-19 pandemic and its impact on the organization’s operations. And while the circumstances have been challenging, Vermeer’s even-keeled, measured response to the crisis has served the company well during these uncertain and unusual times. “We know this isn’t something that just Vermeer is dealing with, or manufacturers of equipment are dealing with,” said Andringa, the company’s president and CEO. “The whole world is facing this, and it’s our job to stay focused on where we can make an impact, along with abiding by the guidelines that are out there.”
“It’s really helped that we have communicated as much as we have with our team,” said Andringa. “And feels like we’re over that first wave of really imminent concern about COVID-19. Not all that long ago, there were certainly people who really felt as though it was going to sweep through the state of Iowa and Vermeer, and that there was no avoiding it.” The Vermeer president and CEO cited vigilant efforts related to social distancing, hand-washing and sanitization as key measures taken to combat the COVID-19 pandemic and prevent infection among the company’s workforce. So far, the steps taken have been extremely successful. Vermeer has seen only one confirmed case among its 3,500 team members, and — perhaps most importantly — company employees feel as safe, sound and secure as possible in the current situation when on the job. “The one team member has not been on Vermeer’s [Pella] campus, or in contact with any other Vermeer team member,” said Andringa. “And because [the virus] hasn’t been in any of our production facilities, I think it people are responding well and settling into pretty much a normal scenario.”
Stepping Up Vermeer’s impact has been significant. The company’s team members — at work and at home — are working together with RP America to make face shields for healthcare workers fighting COVID-19 on the front lines at Pella Regional Health Center in Iowa.
Prepping cleaning supplies
3-D printed visors
Employing cutting-edge 3D printing technology, Vermeer successfully worked with hospital officials to determine the best design of a visor piece for use on the face shield. The company then worked alongside local 3D printer owners in an effort to spur even more production of personal protective equipment (PPE). “We’re able to help, and we’re happy to do it,” said Andringa. The seriousness of the COVID-19 pandemic became apparent to Vermeer officials when the company’s operation in Tianjin,
China was forced to shut down earlier this year as part of a lockdown in the region. In order to reopen, Vermeer officials were required to implement several measures, from distribution of facemasks and PPE to coordination of employee temperature readings. Due to their prompt and successful response, Vermeer was one of the first companies in Tianjin to open up once government officials lifted the lockdown. “Now America’s dealing with COVID19,” said Andringa. “And the supply chain we cultivated in China, we’re leveraging it for the rest of the Vermeer enterprise. Not only have we been able to procure PPE for our own use, but we’re able to continue to leverage the supply chain in order to provide PPE to the state of Iowa and our local community.”
Embracing Transparency Making a positive difference in the face of a public health crisis has also provided a much-needed boost to organizational morale. Though some amount of fear and uncertainty is still being felt by Vermeer team members, company leaders are working diligently to address concerns by engaging in clear and frequent communication with employees. Vermeer’s communication efforts have been made much easier due to increased adoption of a recently launched company app. Prior to the COVID-19 outbreak, the app was being used by 600 Vermeer employees. Now, just a few weeks later, 2,700 company team members have signed up and are active users. Initially made available just a month and a half ago, the app now serves as the primary means of circulating important information among company employees.
Cautious Optimism According to Andringa, trying to lead Vermeer through the initial days and weeks of the COVID-19 pandemic has been like being “a passenger on a bus.” There’s not a lot about the company’s present situation he can control, and determining exactly where everything is headed in the near term is really anybody’s guess. What he can control, however, is how he’ll respond to the ever-evolving circumstances Vermeer will face in the coming months. And despite all of the challenges he and his company have weathered so far, Andringa said he sees reasons for optimism regarding the future of both Vermeer and the equipment manufacturing industry as a whole. “When we get past this crisis, there will be a lot of potential for recovery for the type of work being done by members of the Association of Equipment Manufacturers,” he said. “There’s going to be a lot of stimulus out there, and I think the need for infrastructure is going to be very strong. So, for those people who were doing something other than being involved in the manufacturing of equipment, support of equipment or end use of equipment, I’m confident the opportunity will exist to secure good-paying jobs in manufacturing or the markets we serve that many folks wouldn’t have considered before this crisis began.” To learn more about AEM’s efforts to support the equipment manufacturing industry, visit the COVID-19 section on the AEM website.

Kobelco Construction Vet Lumpkins Hangs Them Up
George Lumpkins celebrates a 45year career in the construction equipment business, with more than 26 years with Kobelco.
Kobelco Construction Machinery USA announces that George Lumpkins, general manager of marketing, general service manager and product developer manager will retire at the end of May 2020. Lumpkins is an accomplished professional with a 45-year career in the construction equipment business, with more than 26 years with Kobelco. “George has been involved in every aspect of our business,” said Jack Fendrick, COO and vice president of Kobelco USA. “From sales, service, engineering, marketing, product development and production, George’s fingerprints are on all of our successes. His leadership, work ethic, integrity and passion for the industry have been instrumental in helping to grow the Kobelco brand in the North American and Latin American markets.” Lumpkins has served in his current role at Kobelco since 2013, but over a 12-year period earlier in his career, where his first trip to Kobelco/Yutani was in 1985, he served as a product and service manager, sales application engineer and a sales and service training manager for Kobelco. During his combined time with the company, Lumpkins completed 77 trips to Japan, 15 trips to China, and several trips to Europe, Latin America and Asia to help develop many of the technologies that
make today’s Kobelco excavators the most efficient and powerful machines available. He also led excavator service, quality, safety, and sales trainings for dealers, customers, and manufacturing teams. “The Kobelco USA team is sad to see George move into retirement, but we are grateful to have had the opportunity to work with him. Thank you, George, for your invaluable guidance and extraordinary contributions to Kobelco over the years,” added Fendrick. Lumpkins graduated with an Industrial Distribution degree from Texas A&M University and began his career in 1975 with the Bucyrus-Erie Company. There, he gained experience in service and service training, sales, and quality control. He lived on a customer job site for a one-year field study of a prototype excavator during development, and later became the crane, excavator and dragline, machine erector and sales demonstrator. It was these early years that equipped Lumpkins with the knowledge and understanding to write numerous installation and special procedures manuals for both sales and service-related projects throughout his entire career. Lumpkins went on to hold several seniorlevel management positions with companies
such as Mitsubishi, LiuGong, and Case New Holland, in addition to Kobelco. He was entrenched in design and engineering support, product development of excavators and attachments, and registered U.S. patents on motor grader and dozer control systems currently in use. Lumpkins also served on design teams for the evaluation and development of loaders, motor graders, dozers, skid steer loaders, articulated haulers and more, but his first love continued to be Kobelco excavators. Kobelco will divide Lumpkins’ duties among a team of exceptional qualified employees. The transitions include: Dan Collins, product marketing manager and senior warranty manager; Dave Donneral, assistant product marketing manager; Todd Dohnal, sales training manager; Brittany Swales, warranty manager. Lumpkins will continue to serve as a consultant to Kobelco through December 2020. “The employees on this new team share the same passion for the industry as George does,” said Fendrick. “They will stand on the foundation that George built at Kobelco, continue to develop new solutions and innovations for increased productivity and efficiency, and deliver superior sales, service and product support to Kobelco dealers and customers.”
AASHTO Asks Congress for $50B Fiscal Backstop for DOTs The American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials sent a letter to Congressional leadership on April 6 requesting the immediate emergency injection of $49.95 billion to offset an estimated 30 percent loss in state transportation revenues over the next 18 months. “State departments of transportation are forecasting a significant reduction in state transportation revenues that will challenge their ability to maintain and operate our transportation system in a way that can support the COVID-19 response,” explained Jim Tymon, AASHTO’s executive director, in a statement. AASHTO is requesting that the nearly $50 billion be distributed to state DOTs via formula funding; a figure composed of $16.7 billion to cover revenue losses for the remainder of fiscal year 2020 and $33.3 billion for FY 2021. “This crucial federal backstop will prevent cancellations and delays of projects as well as potential job losses both in the state DOT workforce and the private sector,” AASHTO said in its letter. RG Howard Loves Bergmann C912s After Demo in N.C. By Joe Trinacria CEG ASSOCIATE EDITOR
Down in Lancaster, S.C., RG Howard LLC Operations Manager Ben Crowder has two important tasks to oversee while working on this particular job site. First, his primary mission, is coordinating the construction of a subdivision that involves a complex slope stabilization project. Second is his company’s demo of the German-built Bergmann C912s track dumper, a machine which Crowder was introduced to by friends with Ascendum Machinery in North Carolina, the distributor of the truck. “We were trying to figure out how to get this material up from the bottom of the hill, and Mark with Ascendum presented us with the option that they were carrying these Bergmann trucks now,” Crowder told CEG. “So, we offered to use one, potentially renting it until we get this job done.” The powerhouses on the C912s tracks convince with high transport performance, are low-emission and economical in consumption and offer maximum safety to operators. Two hydrostatic power trains with constant full power, optimal weight distribution with any load and the hydraulic parking brake guarantee secure holds even on extreme inclines, making practically any terrain accessible. These features of the Bergmann C912s have come in handy for the steep climb that the truck makes on RGH’s Lancaster subdivision site. The machine travels approximately 50 yds. from its The powerhouses on the C912s tracks convince with high transport performance, are low-emission and economical in loading point to the dump area, having no issues consumption and offer maximum safety to operators. ascending the 1:1 slope ratio. “It has no problem getting up the hills,” Crowder stated. “It’s actually been really impressive. Even in high gear, it doesn’t hesitate to climb out. When you get into a softer material, it doesn’t bog down, but it throws more power to it. From what they tell me at Bergmann their object is to not lose traction. So far it’s done really well coming out of the bottom.” And Crowder knows a thing or two about what makes quality iron. He’s a third-generation member of the Crowder construction family, branching out to work in the grading business with RGH in Stanley, N.C., as something of a change of pace. It’s not just creature comforts that have Crowder enjoying In use on this current subdivision project, Crowder appreciates the comfortability of the Bergmann C912s cab as well his experience with Bergmann. I-10 Work Continues in Calcasieu, EBR, Ascension Parishes I-10 from page 1
get out of harm’s way. Fitness of I-10 Vital to Louisiana Almost from its beginnings, the interstate has been a congested highway — and not just around the larger cities. That factor, along with the pounding I-10 has taken from massive storms and the hot, humid climate, has meant the freeway is in desperate need of rehabilitation in many areas. Indeed, some parts of I-10 require constant maintenance. Therefore, keeping I-10 in top form is vital to keeping the public safe and preserving the state’s economic wellbeing. Currently, the Louisiana DOTD has contracted with various local builders to make I10 improvements, including increasing vehicle capacity in several locations. At other work zones along I-10, contractors and their subs are performing asphalt resurfacing, pouring concrete, improving drainage, reconditioning bridges and overpasses, as well as handling striping and signing. A closer look at two I-10 building projects — one in the west and another in the east — illustrates the importance the DOTD places on keeping the interstate free flowing for both people and goods. More Capacity Needed in Calcasieu Parish In October, the DOTD announced that work had begun on improving both I-10’s capacity and its roadway in Calcasieu Parish, along the Texas border. Located southwest of Lake Charles, the length of the project is only 2.45 mi. long, but is part of the route that has reached the end of its service life and requires frequent maintenance, explained Tammy York, public information officer of the DOTD’s Lake Charles District. Major construction started in January on the I-10 Calcasieu work zone and encompasses the route just west of the LA 108 interchange and continues east to the I-210 interchange. Road capacity will be achieved by widening I-10 eastbound and westbound to four lanes between the two interchanges, including a new auxiliary lane. Twelve-foot shoulders also will be installed in both directions on the inside and outside lanes. Along its path, I-10 crosses Maple Fork, a stream that flows through the area. Bridge crews are in the process of replacing the twin 200-ft. spans over the water. And, with more frequent hurricanes and heavy rain in the area, each bridge will be raised above the 100-year flood elevation, allowing contin-
I-10 Widening the Goal in Baton Rouge Further to the east, straddling East Baton Rouge and Ascension parishes, is a similar I-10 improvement project with many of the same objectives as the one near Lake Charles. This interstate work, which began construction in February 2018, is currently rounding the home stretch toward the finish line this fall, reported Brandie Richardson, the PIO of the Louisiana DOTD in the area. The concept of this $72 million design-build contract was to widen I10 from four to six lanes on the southeast edge of the city of Baton Rouge, just west of Highland Road (LA 42). From that point, the roadwork extends 6.5 mi. south-southeast to the LA 73 interchange in Ascension Parish. Plans also called for replacing the two bridges that made up the I-10 overpass above Highland Road with a single large overpass, as well as making improvements to two other spans further south. Baton Rouge-based James Construction Group (Primoris Heavy Civil) serves as the prime contractor. Other companies on this I10 improvement project include Sigma Consulting of Baton Rouge, the designer of the roadway; Lafayette’s Huval and Associates, the bridge engineer; Command Construction of New Orleans built the concrete median barrier; and C.E.C. of Lafayette installed the structural steel on the bridges. By the first week of May, an additional lane and wider shoulder had been added to both the eastbound and westbound directions of I-10 from Highland Road to LA 73. The interstate overpasses across Highland Road have been removed and replaced with a 135-ft.-wide by 310-ft.-long bridge designed to carry six lanes of I-10 traffic and featuring widened inside and outside shoulders. The main structure across Highland Road is 190 ft. in width to provide for expanded road capacity in the future. Just south of the Highland Road overpass site, crews repaired the Bluff Road bridge (LA 928) over I-10 to replace a damaged girder and raised the bridge to meet updated interstate standards. Also, at the East Baton Rouge/Ascension parish line, the I-10 river bridges over Bayou Manchac have been widened to accommodate six full traffic lanes.

to Gilchrist Construction, based in Alexandria, La. Six other Louisiana subcontractors are working on the project, as well as one from Mississippi and another located in Arkansas, York said. The I-10 Calcasieu upgrades are anticipated to be complete in the summer of 2021. “The challenges we are dealing with now on the project are the high volume of daily traffic through the work zone and maintaining two lanes of traffic both directions,” she added.

ued operation during high water events. The concrete sections west of Maple Fork to LA 108 will be fully reconstructed and replaced, and the existing asphalt pavement east of the stream will be milled and overlaid to improve the service of the roadway. “With the installation of an auxiliary lane in both directions of I-10 between the LA 108 and I-210 interchanges, motorists can access those highways without having to enter the I-10 mainline traffic,” York said. “The additional capacity will help to alleviate congestion on the already heavily traveled roadway. “By reconstructing the concrete section and rehabbing the asphalt part of the I-10 roadway, everyone — residents, freight haulers and travelers — will experience a much smoother journey with increased capacity and minimal maintenance delays.” The $45.5 million contract was awarded
Project Beginning to Pick Up Speed In the last week of April, York reported that the westbound service road had already been widened and striped for interstate traffic, while I-10 westbound traffic at the LA 108 interchange had been shifted to the service road so that the contractor can begin the reconstruction of the concrete sections. Also, the temporary signals on LA 108 northbound and southbound are operational and the necessary ramps have been closed for the traffic shifts. Pile-driving for the bridge replacements at I-10 and LA 108 are ongoing, too, she said. The job of moving dirt, driving pile and putting down asphalt and concrete on the I10 project includes: • 72,786 cu. yds. of excavation and 25,861 cu. yds. of embankment • 91,724 tons of asphalt concrete • 6,738 tons of friction course • 7,760 ft. of double-faced concrete roadway barrier • 203 precast concrete piles, each 80 ft. long York said Gilchrist Construction is using its own equipment to perform its tasks. The contractor’s rolling stock on the I-10 project includes multiple Cat and Komatsu excavators ranging from 7,500 to 81,900 lbs. On hand, too, are Link-Belt 80- and 200-ton cranes.
Project Listed as a Bayou State Priority Richardson described the widening of I10 in East Baton Rouge and Ascension parishes as a priority project for Louisiana. see I-10 page 62

RICHARDS TRACTOR AND IMPLEMENTS The Association of Equipment Manufacturers (AEM) Hall of Fame recognizes the pioneers whose inventions, ideas, leadership and courage have contributed to the industry and the community’s quality of life. Since 2008, the AEM Hall of Fame has honored pioneering individuals who invented, managed, built and led the off-road equipment industry, and includes luminaries from John Deere and J.I. Case to William Smith Otis and Benjamin Holt. Anyone in the equipment manufacturing industry or the wider public can
submit a nomination. AEM seeks to recognize those who exemplify innovation, industry contributions, leadership, social responsibility and sustainability in the equipment manufacturing industry. In 2019, the Association of Equipment Manufacturers (AEM) inducted its first woman leader, Mary Andringa of Vermeer Corporation, into its Hall of Fame. This year, AEM is expanding the traditional idea of a Hall of Fame member and looking to recognize contributions to the industry from more diverse corners of the
equipment manufacturing world, including those from different roles and positions, as well as from smaller manufacturers. “These are the people who have defined, and continue to define, the equipment manufacturing industry,” said AEM President Dennis Slater. “The ideas, innovations and inventions these leaders have developed, when combined, have created a better life for every single human who sets foot in our world from now until eternity.” Nominations are open until June 12, 2020 and can be submitted online.

Kleemann Introduces MOBICAT MC 120 Zi PRO Jaw Crusher At ConExpo-Con/Agg 2020, the MOBICAT MC 120 Zi PRO jaw crusher plant was one of four innovations from Kleemann on show at the trade fair stand of the Wirtgen Group and by John Deere.
With the MOBICAT MC 120 Zi PRO, Kleemann offers a new mobile jaw crushing system for challenging quarrying operations.
MC 120 Zi PRO: Made for Challenging Quarrying Operations With an output of up to 717 tons per hour, the MOBICAT MC 120 Zi PRO is impressive in natural rock applications. The powerful jaw crusher has a feed opening of 48 by 32 in. and is equipped with an extra long articulated crusher jaw. To ensure the best possible material flow, the continuous feed system (CFS) adapts the conveying speed to the fill level of the crusher. On most jaw crushing systems, the operator has the time-consuming task of clearing the crushing chamber in the event of material blockages. Not so with the optional crusher unblocking system. Should material bridging occur in the jaw crusher, the crusher can be reversed with the aid of the electric crusher drive and in this way the blockage can be cleared in no time. The machines of the PRO line can be operated with the simple SPECTIVE control system via a 12 inch touch panel. All components and functions can be controlled conveniently from the ground. Optimal Combination With MOBICONE MCO 11i PRO Cone Crusher The mobile MOBICONE MCO 11i PRO cone crusher also was on display and is the perfect secondary crushing plant of the MC 120 Zi PRO. Harmonized in size and performance, the MCO 11i PRO has a maximum output of 518 tons per hour. Also part of the PRO line, this crusher is built without compromise in the same sturdy manner and designed for permanent quarrying operation. Rubble Master Celebrates 20 Years of Mobile Crushing in U.S.
The RM 120GO! mobile impact crusher in combination with the RM MSC8500M incline screen.
Rubble Master, a market leader in compact crushing, focuses on the best weight to throughput ratio with maximum efficiency, best service and digital support. At ConExpo Rubble Master exhibited the RM 70GO! 2.0 crusher in combination with its RM HS3500M screen, the RM 120GO! with the RM MSC8500M-2D as well as the RM MTS2010S. RM 70GO! 2.0 — Defined Final Aggregate in a Single Pass With the Mesh Screen Starting this year, a combination that has been available for the larger compact systems for a while is now offered with the RM 70GO! 2.0. The proven integrated mesh screen with refeeding belt is now available with the most compact crusher in the RM GO! series to enable crushing and screening in a single pass. The additional equipment is transported together with the crusher unit. Compact dimensions during operation as well as during transport - combined with high throughput - are the main requirements for the RM 70GO! 2.0. These are fulfilled with a transport width of 7.1 ft. Even with the mesh screen and refeeding belt installed, there are no changes to the transport width. This means that no accompanying vehicles or additional special permits are needed. “Full integration into the system’s control system also provides a high level of safety for the operator, which has the highest prior-
ity for us in all our innovations,” explained Gerald Hanisch, Rubble Master founder and CEO. The mesh screen makes the mobile crusher even more efficient. The final aggregate is screened to the required final aggregate size in a single pass. Precise sorting accuracy and a throughput capacity of up to 132 tph is included. The RM MS 70GO! screen is installed directly on the RM 70GO! 2.0 crusher and no auxiliary equipment such as cranes or diggers are needed for assembly. A closed loop is set up using the refeeding belt to produce a finished high quality final aggregate in a single processing step. Depending on the application, the screen decks can simply be swapped or combined.
RM 120GO! — Quality Right Down to the Smallest Detail The flagship RM 120GO! crusher has a throughput capacity of up to 385 tph and meets the highest specifications in terms of performance, ease of maintenance, efficiency and design. Weighing just 38 tons, the RM 120GO! is the most compact crusher in its class. The diesel-electric drive concept allows location-independent, environmentally friendly, low-noise and low-emission operation. “Everything is so much easier and readily available on this machine. There is no safety that you are risking. RM has designed everything to be as user-friendly as it can be all the way down to changing blow bars. My guys have thanked me time and time again for this

machine vs. the one we had before just because it is so much easier on them,” said Bryce Swain, BTS Equipment, San Diego, Calif. RM GO! SMART — The New Dimension in Service RM GO! SMART represents a new era in human-machine interaction. The infrastructure RM developed for this system not only promotes intelligent operation of the machine, but also enables remote processing and display of real-time trends and historical machine data. A GSM/UMTS connection is not essential because the data can be saved temporarily on the device. You can use any cellular device like a smartphone or tablet to visualize and process the information. RM GO! SMART is an ideal add-on to the proven RM GO! principle, which is appreciated by customers all over the world for its simplicity and intuitiveness. RM Screen Line — Everything From a Single Source As a full solution provider, RM offers a product range that includes screens and conveyor belts. The most compact scalper — the RM HS3500M — is the perfect complement to RM crushers, according to the manufacturer. As stand-alone products, this screen and the RM MSC8500-2D post screen ensures a high throughput capacity even in confined spaces. For more information, visit www.rubblemaster.com.

ported easily and made ready for operation in a short space of time. Moreover, the direct diesel drive concept ensures a high output while simultaneously keeping consumption low. For better capacity utilization and productivity, the system widths of the impact crusher plant open in the direction of material flow. The plant also is operated using the intuitive SPECTIVE control concept. The overall system itself impresses with an output of up to 496 tons per hour.
MOBISCREEN MS 952i EVO Classifying Screen Kleemann’s presence at ConExpo was rounded off by the double-decker MOBISCREEN MS 952i EVO classifying screen. Just like the MOBIREX MR 130 Zi EVO2 impact crusher, the screening plant of the EVO line can be deployed flexibly due to good transport dimensions and short setup times. These advantages make it the first choice for crushing plant contractors not only in recycling but also quarrying.
The MS 952i EVO has a screening surface of 5 ft. 1 in. by 20 ft. and boasts an output of up to 550 tons per hour. The high output is largely attributable to the good material flow through the plant. This starts with loading, which can be carried out both by wheel loader and upstream crushing plant due to the generous feed hopper. The material is then transported on the extra wide feeding conveyor of 3 ft. 11 in. to the screen casing. For more information, visit www.kleemann.info.
The mobile MOBIREX MR 130 Zi EVO2 impact crusher shows its strength not only in recycling but also natural rock processing.
LSG Series Work Tools The Link-Belt scrap grapple is a low-maintenance, highcapacity orange peel grapple designed for high volume scrap yard processing. Available in four models, the LSG features: • Reverse-mounted cylinders protect rods from damage • Multiple tine and spade styles for all types of scrap material • All tine styles feature fully-boxed construction for strength and durability • Overall footprint easily fits inside trailers • A heavy-duty guarding system that completely protects cylinders and internal components yet is easily removed for maintenance • Identical hardened steel bearings with dust seals at all pivot points that protect against external debris • Large bore hydraulic cylinders for maximum clamping force • High-torque continuous 360-degree rotation • Abrasion-resistant steel tips that are easily replaced with a simple perimeter weld LCG Series Work Tools The LCG is available with perforated or heavy-duty ribbed tines that close at a very flat angle to assist in compacting material. Maximum crushing force densifies material while the strong rotation system resists back-driving forces. Available in three models, the LCG features: • Single cylinder with dual drag links minimizes the number of moving parts and simplifies the hydraulic system • Streamlined tine, frame and linkage design with easy-tolocate grease fittings simplifies maintenance • Oversized cylinder design incorporates rod protection, maximum crushing force to densify material, bolt-on gland cap for durability, and easy maintenance • Large recessed side covers provide easy access to internal components while protecting the cover fasteners All LSG and LCG tools are covered by a full 1year/1,800-hour (whichever occurs first) Standard Limited Warranty. The warranty will be honored on tools mounted on Link-Belt excavators only. For more information, visit lbxco.com.

Contractors Say PPP Loans Providing a Huge Relief LOANS from page 1

They communicated with us each day as the process was coming around to our getting approval. We’d gotten our submission in within four or five days of when the SBA revised the application. If you were on top of it, you knew what was going on.” Like most business loans, there were questions to be answered, but nothing complicated about the process, said Nix. “To me, it was the easiest loan I’ve ever gotten. I didn’t
“It was a huge relief,” Bortz said. “I don’t know how we would have managed if it was another week.” Ali Mills, executive vice president of Plum Contracting, went to the White House to thank President Trump for signing the second round of PPP funding. Representing the highway industry, Mills recounted how COVID-19 “abruptly halted” all highway work in her state of Pennsylvania. With heavy equipment parked on 11 major highway projects, Plum was forced to lay off about 125 employees. “The Payroll Protection Program was and remains the engine that is carrying our business through this shutdown,” she said during the White House briefing. “We wouldn’t survive without it. With our PPP approval, we anticipate our company running at full capacity when the highway industry is permitted to return back to work,” she added, noting in an interview with CBS station KDKA that when construction in the region is back at it again, Pittsburgh, Pa.based Plum Contracting will be at full capacity. And in Grand Junction, Colorado, Tyler Milyard of Western Constructors Inc., said thanks to the PPP loan, his company hasn’t had to lay off any employees. “It’s allowed us to at least feel secure that they’re going to have a paycheck,” Milyard, vice president of the general contractor and construction management company, told westernslopenow.com.
Congress rejuvenated the program in a second round, released on April 27, when another $300 billion has been set aside for medium-sized community banks and credit unions to dole out loans. Quick receipt of Paycheck Protection Program loans may be helping contractors retain or add staff, despite mounting project cancellations, reports the AGC. A survey the association conducted online just prior to the second funding release drew 741 responses to a question about PPP loans. Of the 74 percent who reported applying for a loan, 44 percent had received funds, 15 percent had been approved but had not received funds, 8 percent were awaiting an answer, and 7 percent had applied but had been told no more funds were available. Those who reported they had added workers rose to 13 percent from 4 percent in AGC’s April 6-9 survey. Members who’d furloughed or terminated workers declined to 35 percent from 40 percent. “These favorable indications occurred even though the share who reported winning additional work held steady at 18 percent of respondents, the share reporting that an owner had halted an ongoing project had risen from 41 percent to 50 percent, and the share reporting that an owner had canceled an upcoming project had climbed from 19 percent to 28 percent,” reported Ken Simson, AGC chief econo- Many construction firms received PPP loan funds quickly after applymist. ing, enabling them to hire or retain employees, reports the AGC, Employed and Safe “The share reporting project delays or disruptions adding that the job-saving measure appears to be successful. In one instance during fighting near Burma (now called Myanmar), he was assigned to crawl in the ship’s propeller shaft tunnel, with the door latched behind him, to monitor oil and water cooling requirements for the 36-inch-diameter revolving shaft. “The ship would shudder and lurch during the fighting,” Mark Nye said of his father’s recollections, “and he didn’t know if the battleship had been hit or what. He began to imagine being locked in the shaft room with the ship sinking. It was very hard on him.” Jack’s father and brother both fought on European soil. By war’s end, all the family members were able to return home unharmed and Jack married Rosalind Harradine, who also had served in the war as a WREN (Women’s Royal Navy Service).

*** The couple settled into a rural area south of London, with Jack blacksmithing and fabricating metal pieces for local farmers. In those post-war days, supplies such as tanks of acetylene and oxygen were hard to come by because of government restrictions. The couple chafed at the red tape. Three years of frustration led to a decision to emigrate to Canada. “Actually, Dad applied to move to South Africa, but his application was denied for some reason … not enough education or finances or something. Thank God for that,” Mark Nye said. “Their second choice was Canada.” Jack Nye did pass muster with Canadian immigration authorities, who also had restrictions on immigrants to ensure they could support themselves. Unable to find metal work right away, however, Jack Nye took a job installing drainage pipe in a field, a process involving a bucket-wheel trencher. What happened next speaks to the confidence of a young man who started work at 15 and fought in a world war as a teenager. “One day the company boss came by and noticed that Jack was working by himself,” recounted Mark Nye “The job foreman wasn’t there. The boss asked where the foreman was. Dad said, ‘I let him go.’ The boss just looked at Dad and asked, ‘You let the foreman go?’ Dad said, “Ah, he was being a bit of a twit, but everything is going just fine without him, as you can see.’ So Dad was made foreman. He was pretty scrappy.” The senior Nye did land some welding work, including for Horton Steel, where he volunteered to work high up in a water tower being built at the jet engine plant for the Avro Arrow. Why opt for the high-up risky work? It earned him danger pay. Finally, he decided it was time to start working for himself. He cut a couple of round holes in the trunk lid of a Pontiac for acetylene and oxygen bottles, added a 200-amp welding unit and launched a mobile welding service. Rosalind Nye kept the books. In 1952, Nye Welding moved into its first shop, which was home for the company until 1970 when it was moved to its current location on Mavis Road. Hydraulic excavators had begun to have a large presence in Canada by then and contractors regularly approached Jack about fabricating sturdier, more effective buckets and other attachments. “Dad was never the type to say no, so before long he was building excavator buckets,” Mark Nye said. Specialized attachments like tilt buckets and rippers soon followed and the Nye name began to be associated exclu-

sively with attachments, mostly for excavators. Demolition tools followed in the 1980s. Mark Nye talked about what distinguished those early Nye products from that of the competition. “Virtually from the start of our efforts in manufacturing demolition attachments, we used the finest steel available and typically used thicker steel than what was used by most of our competitors,” he said. “Every piece is welded using low hydrogen weld flux core wire. This is a smoky process and a difficult process, but it also creates the strongest weld possible. It’s one of the reasons why our demolition attachments have a reputation for being nearly indestructible.” In 1992, Nye was contacted by Scott Guimond of a U.S. distribution firm, National Attachments. After getting to
know Guimond, Nye agreed to let National distribute Nye attachments in the eastern U.S. The Canadian company’s mechanical grapplers and concrete pulverizers quickly found customers south of the border. The alliance continues, with National now distributing across the United States. “In the last year, we expanded our product offering with what I believe is the best engineered and strongest stump harvester on the market anywhere in the world,” said Mark Nye. “National Attachments has done a great job launching that product in the U.S. market.” Sales of Nye products are approaching 50-50 distribution between the Canadian and U.S. markets and the company has no interest in pursuing markets outside North America. *** In 2020, Nye Manufacturing has what Mark Nye believes is the widest range of attachments in the industry. Its most popular tools are mechanical concrete pulverizers, stump harvesters, demolition grapples and various types of stick extensions, along with especially heavy-duty buckets. The company’s attachments average three or four tons in weight, with the largest being a 15-ton bucket for iron ore operations. The tools still are individually fabricated for customers and are, of course, built from computer-aided designs. Nye joked that he didn’t really introduce CAD to the company’s manufacturing process. His father did. “My father’s system was cardboard-assisted design. He would create full-sized cardboard templates of buckets. He spent hours creating thousands of templates. He just loved the idea of having a template in his hands.” A signature product of the company’s was a so-called digital pulverizer with an integrated ripper. It was introduced in the 1990s when the word “digital” was de rigueur. “It had a ripping digit, a ripper shank, so I used digital as a play on words.” The same playfulness is evident in the company’s website content. On the site are found such phrases as T-Rex pulverizer, a Rhino horn “to rip, flip and back-drag,” lower and see NYE page 54

upper “fangs” and tools “chomping through stumps.” Nye owns up to creating the phraseology, but his interest is more than just word deep. He is a fan of biomimetics, or the imitation of biological features in machine engineering. “When you’re sitting in a comfortable, air-conditioned office, eating Cheezies and working on your computer, there’s no excuse for a crappy design,” Nye said. “Some manufacturers will cut out some triangle shapes for gripping points on an attachment, but that’s not the way a tooth looks. angles and corners without a nice radius. We’re after the most efficient and effective designs.” This mimicking of nature is evident in the company’s GSX garbage shear used to reduce the size of solid waste in trucks and landfills. The teeth on the shear are modeled on those of a tropical or subtropical wahoo fish. “We went deep-sea fishing in the Bahamas and I caught a wahoo about three feet long,” Nye said. “I looked at its teeth and they’re not normal. They bypass one another like a serrated tin snip. The teeth can cut through about anything you put in there.” He took photos and replicated the jaw action on the GSX. His bio-mimicking extends to the painting of all teeth on an attachment white, though the rest of the tool is painted whatever color a customer wants to match his machine. “Painting the teeth white is such a pain in the ass,” he admitted, though it does produce some striking-looking attachments. *** Mark Nye looks back on his father’s career and attributes its success to Jack Nye’s iron will and tenacity. “It required hard work and technical sense to do
what he did and he wasn’t afraid to take on new challenges. He almost willed things to be the way he wanted them.” Mark Nye calls welding “a beautiful thing. You can see what needs to be done and visualize how it will look when completed.” He added that the elder Nye’s work was never artwork as such. “What he made always had utility. Some of it was ornamental iron work, but it always was practical. Wrought-iron door knockers. Railings. Fireplace irons. He built an ornamental lamp at the end of our driveway.” Mark Nye’s two sons, Michael and Bradley, are third-generation family members in the company and are working their way into leadership positions as mechanical and technology engineers. On Fridays, the brothers regularly join their father and grandfather for lunch somewhere. Might a larger manufacturer come into the picture someday and disrupt this family scene? “The company is not for sale,” the president said. “It is a legacy of my father that I’ve built upon, doing all I could to honor the family name. My kids are on the road to doing the same thing. I’m proud of the business and of the Nye name and I wouldn’t want it any other way.” CEG

With Its W990 Out Front, No Job Proves Too Big for Hauler When Wolfe House & Building Movers takes on a job, it’s go big or go home. Wolfe recently assisted with the reconstruction of a Pennsylvania Turnpike Bridge by hauling away the older sections — replacing them with pre-built 100-ft. long sections, each weighing upwards of 280,000 lbs. The process, known as “Accelerated Bridge Construction,” was completed over a single weekend. In other jobs, the Wolfe crew moved 200-ft. long gas tanks, a 232,000-lb. drum cooler on its 16axle dual lane trailer, and a modular home to the National Mall in Washington, D.C., for a green building competition in conjunction with Habitat For Humanity. By using specialized technology and industry-leading equipment, featuring a fleet of Kenworth trucks -- including the new Kenworth W990 model -- Wolfe is uniquely positioned to transport the biggest loads safely and securely, according to the company.
“Lifting and moving big and heavy things is the kind of work we do every day,” said Jamin Buckingham, president of the half-
century-old company. “We need a truck that can move and handle whatever size load that we hook up to it.
“The company ran a variety of brands before I reached a position with the responsibility of deciding which trucks to purchase. Being a
former driver, I knew what I wanted,” Buckingham added. “We went with Kenworth because it’s a see WOLFE page 57

W990’s Allison Transmission Provides the Needed ‘Oomph’ WOLFE from page 56
WOLFEquality product and we’ve always liked the look and style. Kenworth is also known for its heavier-duty trucks and offers a good variety of options. Among the features that made the Kenworth W990 an extremely effective choice for heavy haul applications was increased cooling capacity — the largest radiator found on any of Kenworth’s onhighway trucks, and the PACCAR 20K front steer axle. First developed for the Kenworth T680 and T880, the PACCAR front axle (available with ratings of 20,000- or 22,000lbs.) uses an innovative tapered kingpin roller bearing, which simplifies the design and delivers enhanced steering efficiency with angles up to 50 degrees. “The majority of our loads are at job sites not set up for trucks and trailers, so turning radius and backing ability are crucial, Buckingham said. “We’ve had very positive feedback from our drivers that they are surprised with how well the W990 turns, Buckingham said. “The transmission is also very smooth, and backing as well as starting off is phenomenal — it’s very precise.
The transmission, which Buckingham speaks of highly, is Allison’s 4700 RDS 7speed automatic transmission with a twospeed Eaton auxiliary. The Allison delivers a lower first gear ratio and a second “deep reduction reverse gives the needed “oomph, particularly on steep grades and in tight settings. A perfect example is the recent move of a 226,500-lb. transformer from a rail siding, up a steep incline, and then five miles to a substation. “The driver can manually select the first gear on the Allison and also be in the low side of the auxiliary transmission and the truck will crawl around at half a mile an hour, pointed out Matt Zelinsky Jr., the account manager with Kenworth of Pennsylvania, who helped in the spec’ing process. Other vocational specs include Dana double reduction 46,000-lb. rears, Holland FW70 extra capacity fifth wheel and Watson & Chalin 20K lift axles. According to Zelinsky, Wolfe’s newest Kenworth W990s are rated to pull 240,000-lb. gross and are set up to the maximum that Kenworth will build without upgrading to a planetary axle.
Wolfe House & Building Movers trims out its trucks with custom fenders and a headache rack. The W990s are fitted with 40-in. sleepers, which are best suited for shorter hauls that do not require multiple nights. Smaller is better from the driver’s perspective. Visibility is at the top of the want list for safely maneuvering oversize loads. The 40-in. sleeper features a 24-in. liftable bunk, ample storage and coat hooks specifically designed to hold hardhats as well as coats. There are two standard toolbox doors and three optional windows available on the back of the sleeper to help provide maximum visibility. The oldest truck in the Wolfe fleet is a 2000 model, but most were manufactured between 2006 and 2020. The majority of the hauls are in regional states east of the Mississippi River, plus Iowa and Missouri, and trucks roll up 60,000 to 120,000 mi. annually. “We don’t have any set rules as to when we trade them in, Buckingham said. “Kenworth are well-built, dependable trucks. They last and don’t let us down.
The team at Wolfe has gained experience by successfully completing thousands of moves and lifts. One could say they are proud to carry the weight of the world on their shoulders. Imagine picking up and relocating a 200-ton brick masonry train station, 100-ft. tall concrete farm silo or an entire five-story timber frame hotel weighing in at 1,750 tons. For its biggest jobs, Wolfe utilizes custom-built and engineered Buckingham Power and Coaster Dollies “drivenâ€? by hand-held remote control. “There’s a significant amount of change with equipment upgrading, integrating new technology into the equipment. Being into heavy haul, there’s just a natural gravitation in that direction,â€? Buckingham said. “Utilizing the newest trucks, such as the Kenworth W990 within the fleet, has allowed us to diversify our market,â€? Buckingham added. “Kenworth definitely provides big advantages in terms of optimal performance and dependability.â€? For more information on Wolfe, visit www.wolfehousebuildingmovers.com. Use These Tips on How to Position Your Construction Business for Any Economy By Brad Humphrey PINNACLE DEVELOPMENT GROUP
Nobody doubts the fact that the past few years have been pretty darn good for most construction contractors. Having said that, the economy is bound to turn south at some point. That’s not being pessimistic. It is being realistic. Failing to plan for the inevitable, cyclical economic slowdown is one of the biggest mistakes a contractor can make. Contractors need to create sustainable businesses that can thrive when times are good —and survive when times are bad. I’m not saying it’s a foregone conclusion that 2020 will be a bad year. What I am saying is that smart business owners watch for various warning signs that the business climate could be changing —and then make the necessary adjustments to begin positioning their companies for a much different economy than they’ve grown used to.
The problem is that no vetting of the client takes place. Later on, the contractor is sorry they took the job because the client is difficult to work with, or maybe the job isn’t as profitable as they’d like it to be. When I speak to contractors and ask how many have ever done a job they regretted taking, at least 60 percent of the hands in the audience go up. Watch for This Sign of a Slowdown Contractors should define who their A, B and C customers Contractors should pay attention to how their commercial customers are behaving. Contractors often deal with one are. What are the characteristics of each? As a given lead propoint of contact at a given client. I-10 Improvements Considered Essential by Louisiana Gov’t I-10 from page 28
“With the full support of the U.S. Department of Transportation and Gov. John Bel Edwards, we’re able to utilize the innovative design-build method to move us one step closer to reducing congestion and enhancing safety along this well-traveled freight corridor,” she said. “Investing in this section of I-10 will improve the safety and efficiency for the more than 95,000 motorists who travel this segment every day. “This roadway frequently experiences slow traffic during morning and afternoon commutes as people travel between Baton Rouge and the growing suburban areas of northern Ascension Parish,” Richardson continued. “I-10 is also part of the main route between Baton Rouge and New Orleans, making it one of the busiest surface freight routes in the state.” Top Equipment, Manpower Leading Effort James Construction and its subs brought
in many pieces of prime heavy equipment to reshape the I-10 project near Baton Rouge. Richardson listed Cat dozers, excavators and motor graders among the equipment on the I-10 upgrade, in addition to a Manitowoc 14000 crane, a Kobelco CK 1600 crane and Gomaco pavers. She also noted a few other construction facts and figures about the project: • 250,000 cu. yds. of earth moving • 11,500 LF of concrete pile driving • 85,000 cu. yds. of concrete poured • Peak manpower was approximately 80 workers in the summer/fall of 2019 “Because I-10 is an essential freight and travel route, all four existing travel lanes must remain open during weekdays,” Richardson said. “This necessitated a good deal of night work, which has additional safety protocols and equipment.” But, she added, “All that remains now is to upgrade the I-10 ramps at Highland Road and LA 73, add and replace some roadway signs and lighting, and install the new roadway striping.” CEG

We are confident that by the end of this WebEd Series, you will be more prepared to grow your talent within your company, expand your client map and continuously improve your processes and strategies.. Part One: Basics of Business Development for the Busy General Contractor – May 12, 2020 In this webinar, we will be discussing processes and strategies that you can apply to your current Business Development initiative. We will also provide tools that will help you improve your current program and organize the way you approach, manage and implement BD as it relates to your employees, software/systems, performance metrics and budgeting. Part Two: Basics of Marketing for the Busy General Contractor – June 23, 2020 The Marketing segment of AGC’s Business Development WebEd Series will cover the various areas of marketing essential to success in a competitive marketplace. The discussion will begin with the strategy and planning of the marketing activities that are imperative to build awareness of your firm and drive value to your existing clients. Once the strategy is developed, the activities you choose should encompass both digital and traditional marketing activities to maximize your brand message and exposure. We will discuss tips and tricks to make the best decisions for your firm, prioritize the best marketing actions to execute and discuss measuring the success of your efforts. Part Three: Basics of Proposals and Presentations for the Busy General Contractor – July 28, 2020 Most proposals and presentations have 3 things in common; a lot of talk about how great we are; a lot of boiler plate language that says the same thing as our competitors; and Boring, boring, & more boring. All 3 are losing behaviors! In this webinar, we will discuss the following: • Gathering the intel needed to craft a tailored message • Creating a compelling offering around the client’s key issues • Flipping the focus from “Us” to “Them”. • Focusing on the “Benefits” we offer, as opposed to the “Features” • Mastering the use of the Executive Summary • And much more!
