The Great Lakes Dredge and Dock Company will complete the eighth of 10 projects to lower the riverbed of the Delaware River in late August, which will allow the Philadelphia Regional Port Authority (PRPA) to increase its cargo capacity and create new

employment opportunities in the area. The $350 million (current estimate) Army Corps of Engineers/PRPA Main Channel Deepening Project began in March 2010 and is expected to be completed in 2017. Last April 29 it was announced that nearly 80 mi. (129 km) of the

Park Service Gets $90M to Fix D.C.’s Memorial Bridge

WASHINGTON (AP) The National Park Service has been awarded a $90 million federal grant to repair the rapidly decaying Arlington Memorial Bridge. Members of Congress from Northern Virginia and the District of Columbia

announced the grant. Without the money, the park service had warned that Washington’s most recognizable bridge would have to close by 2021. The 84-year-old bridge needs to be completely reconstructed at a cost of see BRIDGE page 117
