Reed & Reed Awarded Contract to Replace Well-Traveled Maine Span Reed & Reed Inc. has been selected as the design-build contractor for Maine’s largest transportation project this year, replacing the Veteran’s Memorial Bridge. In a press conference held by both the Maine Department of Transportation (MaineDOT) and Reed & Reed, MDOT Commissioner David Cole announced the selection of Reed & Reed as he signed the $63 million contract. The Veterans Memorial Bridge, which connects two of Maine’s largest cities, Portland with South Portland, carries more than 22,000 vehicles per day. Construction is set to begin in May 2010 with completion slated for December 2012. “This bridge is a gateway to Maine’s largest metropolitan area, and is vital to move vehicle, pedestrian and bicycle traffic safely and efficiently between the two cities,” said Cole. “Reed & Reed’s proposal addresses these needs and also is a fitting tribute to Maine’s many veterans who served their country.” see BRIDGE page 9

A cameraman from the Discovery Channel’s show “American Loggers” shoots as officials from Mack Trucks Inc. and customer Gerald Pelletier Inc. tour the Mack Macungie Assembly Operations outside Allentown, Pa. (L-R) are Jeff Pelletier, Mack Regional Vice President Brian Buckley, Eldon Pelletier and Bangor Truck Salesman Eric Dysart. Two Titan by Mack models built at the plant appear in the series.
When the Discovery Channel was looking for a company to feature in its new television series, “American Loggers,” it turned to Gerald Pelletier Inc., a family-owned and operated business that’s been working the rugged and remote North Maine Woods for three generations. When the Pelletier family needed new trucks that could not only handle the rigors of its day-to-day operations but also look good for the camera, it turned to Mack Trucks Inc. Because the work they do and where they do it is so brutal, it was time to call on the biggest of the Bulldogs. Cue the Titan by Mack, its 16-L Mack MP10 engine see PELLETIER page 10
