Gov. Phil Scott signed into law two bills on June 14 that will pump more than $615 million into Vermont’s transportation system. Those bills — H.529, an act relating to the transportation program and miscellaneous changes to laws related to transportation, and S.149, an act relating to miscellaneous changes to laws related to vehicles and the Department of Motor Vehicles — include investments intended to reduce transportation-related greenhouse gas emissions as part of its commitment as a signatory to the U.S. Climate Alliance as well as initiatives to make Vermont “more appealing” as a location for research and development of autonomous vehicles. “The investments in this legislation will continue to improve our state’s infrastructure while making transportation safer and easier for all Vermonters,” said Scott in a statement. “This year’s transportation bill continues our commitment to maintaining the state’s transportation system assets, providing safe highways for the traveling public and making investments in efficient transportation options for those traveling in the state by electric vehicle, bus, train, walking or biking,” said Joe Flynn, Vermont’s transportation secretary. “Additionally, we will continue to improve customer service at our DMV offices statewide through modernization efforts such as our new driver’s license and enhanced translation services.” He noted that Vermont’s Agency of Transportation will allocate $373 million for highway infrastructure investments as a result of the newly-signed legislation, including: • Nearly $100 million in bridge investments, including 41 projects under construction and 52 projects under development; • more than $100 million for paving; • nearly $50 million in roadway investments for projects, including the Champlain Parkway in Burlington, Main Street in Waterbury, the Crescent Connector in Essex Junction and continuation of key projects on Route 7 in Brandon and Pittsford; and • $20 million in traffic and safety investments for a new roundabout in Burlington, the Exit 16 diverging diamond interchange in Colchester and numerous highway safety programs. Vermont’s transportation budget also contains $93 million for public transit, aviation, bicycle/pedestrian improvements, as well as funding to extend Amtrak service to downtown Burlington. 

BOSTON (AP) Republican Gov. Charlie Baker has signed a bill providing $200 million to cities and towns for local infrastructure projects. The so-called Chapter 90 funds were given final approval by the Democraticcontrolled Legislature in early June. Baker said in a statement that the state money is critical for cities and towns for highway construction, road paving and other projects.

Under the program, communities submit receipts to the state for reimbursements for costs associated with eligible infrastructure projects. The state Department of Transportation verifies the expenses are eligible for reimbursement. The Baker administration said more than $1.1 billion in Chapter 90 funds have been allotted since the governor took office in 2015. 

machines expanded Marini’s growing business into excavation, site work, drainage and road work projects. At the time, the housing market in Connecticut was booming. In 2003, Marini landed one of his first major projects, “The Rinks at Shelton,” a major two-story skating facility for which he did all of the site and concrete work. After completing college, Gaetano joined the company and brought with him a business savvy that has helped bring the company to a new level. Today, the company has 20 employees, an equipment stable of nine excavators, five loaders, plus various trucks and other pieces of support equipment, and continues to see a pattern of steady growth. According to Marini, “Over the years we have held steadfast to the same motto: ‘Do the right job do the best we can and treat our employees right.’ We have found that if we stick to those basic principles it has been the pathway to success.” For more information about M&L Construction, visit http://www.mlconst.com/. 
