Northeast Hardscape Expo Hosts Second Annual Show

T

he Northeast Hardscape Expo hosted its second annual show on March 14 and 15 at the Rhode Island Convention Center in Providence, R.I. With a 50 percent growth from 2016, this show has proven to be a great hit for New England’s Hardscape contractors, dealers and manufacturers.

The Northeast Hardscape Expo is a two-day trade show and educational forum that is designed specifically for hardscape professionals. Attendees had the opportunity to interact with other industry professionals, as well as, manufacturers, dealers, equipment suppliers, stone suppliers, mulch suppliers and other

hardscape/landscape related companies and suppliers.

Certification classes were offered for all levels and professional development seminars featured current trends, best practices and assorted business-building and profitability ideas. There also were demonstrations provided by many local suppliers, allowing attendees and hands-on experience with their tools and products.

The highlight of the show was the Northeast Installer competition. Mike Darling Hardscape, based out of Troy, N.Y., took home the first-place prize of $2,500 and an invitation to represent the region in the 2018 Hardscape North America National Championship, which will be held in Louisville, Ky. The Northeast Hardscape Competition consisted of a two-day New England Regional installer competition.

The Moonstone Demo gave attendees a hands-on experience with an aesthetic resurfacing spray that allows you to resurface various surfaces, including sidewalks, drywall, wood, floors and more.

Mike Darling Hardscapes, located in Troy, N.Y., brought home the 1st place prize in the two-day installer competition. They also received an invitation to the national hardscape competition in Louisville, Ky.

RIDOT Begins Repairs on Series of Bridges in East Providence The Rhode Island Department of Transportation (RIDOT) announced work began March 12, on a multi-bridge project in East Providence and Providence that will make repairs to five bridges, including replacement of two structurally deficient bridges.

The $20.7 million I-195 Corridor Bridges project begins with the Potter, Purchase and Lyon Avenue bridges in East Providence. These bridges span I-195 and are located close to one another, serving local traffic in the neighborhoods north and south of the highway corridor. RIDOT will be undertaking bridge preservation work on these structures, which involves concrete repairs, bridge joint work and resurfacing.

The Potter Street Bridge was the first bridge to close on March 12. The Purchase Street and Lyon Avenue bridges will be available for detouring traffic with very little delay. The closure will last approximately three to four months. After reopening the Potter Street Bridge, RIDOT will then close the Purchase Street Bridge. After another three to four months of construction, RIDOT will move to close the Lyon Avenue Bridge. During the project, RIDOT

will always keep at least two of the three bridges open until all three are done in spring 2019.

The project also includes work on the Parkway Ramp Bridge, which carries traffic from Veterans Memorial Parkway and Warren Avenue onto I-195 West, also in East Providence; and the Blackstone Street Bridge, which carries I-95 over Blackstone Street in Providence, located near the Rhode Island hospitals campus.

As part of the Blackstone Street Bridge work, RIDOT on March 16 will implement a lane shift on I-95 North between Exit 18 (Thurbers Avenue) and Exit 20 (Point Street) and on I-95 South between Exit 19 (Eddy Street) and Exit 18.

RIDOT will announce additional construction and detour information for this project in the coming weeks.
