John Deere is building upon its lineup of compact equipment by expanding its performance tiering strategy with three new models of compact wheel loaders.
The new G-tier models, including the new 184 G-tier, and the 204 G-tier and 304 G-tier machines, were designed to include proven capabilities and are ideal for customers in need of a dependable machine to complete everyday tasks, according to the manufacturer.
The G-tier compact wheel loader models also are practically equipped, providing proven capabilities with the reliability and ruggedness customers expect from John Deere machines.
“As we learned from launching our performance tiering strategy on our utility loader line-up last year, customer’s needs are unique and they require personalized solutions to meet their diverse set of tasks,” said Luke Gribble, solutions marketing manager, John Deere Construction and Forestry Division.
“That’s why we chose to expand our performance tiering strategy with the introduction of the G-tier compact wheel loader models. These machines are not only rugged, but they boast simple and intuitive machine controls that are a great fit for operators of all experience levels, while also offering options that promote operator comfort and productivity.”
The 184, 204 and 304 G-tier compact wheel loaders provide solutions for customers in applications such as landscaping, agriculture, snow removal, site development and rental without sacrificing the world-class John Deere quality, the manufacturer said.
The G-tier models offer optimal performance with lower maintenance costs. With convenience and productivity top of mind, these easy-to-operate models come standard with limited slip differential, which automatically engages if one wheel loses traction, providing enhanced safety for the operator and the machine. The optional ride-control reduces spillage from the bucket when traveling over rough terrain, reducing job site clean-up, and improving ride quality for the operator and also can be set to engage and disengage at certain speeds.
Featured on all G-tier models, the forward-thinking cab design is offered in both a canopy or enclosed cab configuration, giving operators flexibility when working in a variety of different geographies. Built with operator visibility in mind, the redesigned enclosed cab features a frameless, fully glass door, floor-to-ceiling front windshield and remounted machine display, providing a clear line of sight to machine surroundings. The right-side full glass window also swings out 180 degrees to further enhance overall visibility for the operator.
Additional features include an adjustable steering column, slip-resistant steps and an optional LED lighting package. The spacious cab includes amenities such as improved air conditioning systems and ergonomic low-effort controls (when compared to John Deere L Series compact wheel loaders) to keep operators comfortable during a long shift.
All G-tier models offer enhanced serviceability features such as ground-level service and increased capacity fuel tanks to help simplify daily maintenance, keeping machines up and running on the job. This allows operators to spend more time completing the tasks at hand, rather than performing on-site repairs or maintenance. The strategically placed cooling package minimizes contamination from debris build-up, optimizing efficiency and reducing cleanout time (when compared to John Deere L Series compact wheel loaders).
The smaller G-tier models, including the 184 G-tier and 204 G-tier, were designed to provide customers with a rugged, compact design helping the operator maneuver within the tightest areas while maintaining complete control of the machine. With a canopy height of 8 in. and 5 ft. 10 in. in width, these machines are nimble enough to fit through smaller barn door openings or other smaller areas, making them an ideal solution for job sites of all sizes.
The new 0.9- cu. yd. bucket is optimally sized that pairs with the 184 G-tier and 204 G-tier and can be attached to either a Quik-Tatch or hook-style coupler.
The largest of the three new models, the 304 G-tier, deliv-
ers productivity enhancements while also retaining many of its previous features that result in higher productivity (when compared to John Deere L Series compact wheel loaders), especially in applications such as site development, roadbuilding, and snow removal.
In response to customer feedback, the travel speed of the 304 G-tier has increased to 18.6 mph from 12 mph, seen on the 304L model. This enhancement allows the machine to accomplish tasks and move around job sites in less time. The design of the 304 G-tier offers improved operator visibility (when compared to John Deere L Series compact wheel loaders) and overall machine stability with the increased machine size, which is now measured at 8 ft. 8 in. tall with cab and 6 ft. 5 in. wide. This compact wheel loader model also comes equipped with an optional attachment assist package, including proportional mini-joystick 3rd function control with detent, combined creep control & throttle lock, and integrated electrical attachment controls (3- Pin).
The John Deere 184, 204, and 304 G-tier compact wheel loaders are now available for purchase in the United States and Canada.

Kobelco Construction Machinery USA recently introduced the new SK45SRX-7 mini-excavator model for North America.
The next-generation SK45SRX-7 delivers increased performance and productivity from the previous model and follows the Kobelco Performance X Design concept for enhanced design and operator comfort. This reinforces the Kobelco continued commitment to design the smaller machines with the same quality, feel and comfort as the larger excavator models, the manufacturer said.
The new SK45SRX-7 weighs in at 10,030 lbs. with canopy and 10,300 lbs. with cab and has a 37 hp Yanmar Tier IV final diesel engine.
Max digging height with the standard arm is 18 ft. 10 in., max reach at ground level is 18 ft. 8 in., max dig depth is 11 ft. 3 in. and working width is 6 ft. 5 in.
Performance is key to mini-excavator operators, particularly when project deadlines are tight. The all-new SK45SRX-7 benefits from improved hydraulic performance when compared to the previous 6E series. The new hydraulic system shortens the digging cycle time by up to 7 percent, and this high performance can be maintained without reducing speed, even with a heavy load or when travelling up a slope. In addition, redesigned travel motors increase the travel speed by up to 5 percent.
Other benefits of the new hydraulic system include smoother operation and improved levelling performance.
The integrated flow pump system enables operators to harness extra output from the third pump, which otherwise powers the swing and dozer circuit. This additional output is directed to the arm and boom for added power when digging, resulting in a fast and smooth raising operation, even with heavy loads.
Like all Kobelco short radius (SR) machines, the SK45SRX-7 features a compact tail swing for operation in restricted spaces, such as on urban or residential job sites, allowing for a smaller working footprint. The standard arm is 5 ft. 1 in. and comes with a thumb bracket pre-installed.
A two-way dozer blade with float comes standard and the unique blade

Leica Geosystems, part of Hexagon, announced the launch of the new Leica iCON site excavator, a machine-control solution that enables compact excavators to carry out designs easily and accurately.
When space is limited, compact excavators are required to get the job done right the first time. To increase the efficiency and accuracy of trenching, grading or moving material on a smaller scale, Leica Geosystems further expands its portfolio by offering machine guidance for small excavators.
The iCON site excavator solution introduces three new components: a new software application, a new dual GNSS receiver and an optional communication device. The iCON site excavator application is available as stand-alone software or as an add-on within the existing and well-established iCON site platform.
When used as an add-on, it enables a new workflow for on- and off-machine tasks, empowering construction workers to execute a variety of jobs, leveraging the same tools.
For instance, operators can use the controller unit with a Smart Antenna to stake out or create a design, then immediately mount it in the cab to start grading according to the design. As soon as the excavation or grading to the correct design has been completed, the operator can use the same system to perform as-built checks. This new solution is not only optimizing earthmoving tasks for compact excavators, but due to the iCON site platform’s unique versatility, operators can use it for both on- and off-machine applications, resulting in efficient equipment and personnel deployment, according to the manufacturer.
The iCON site excavator application will be available for a range of iCON field controllers in various sizes. The new GNSS receiver and communication device are designed specifically for compact machines, allowing more flexibility to adjust to different sites and project requirements.
“The Leica iCON site excavator is a very flexible and easy-to-use machine control solution, which opens the door to digital construction for small- and medium-sized heavy construction companies,” said Magnus Thibblin, president, machine control at Leica Geosystems.
“Now, compact excavators can contribute to small or large projects with efficiency powered by Leica Geosystems’ machine control functionality. This sets contractors ona path toward autonomy, enabling them to do earthmoving and detailed grading tasks more efficiently and sustainably.”

Hitachi Construction Machinery Americas Inc. (HCMA) announced the arrival of the ZX50U-5N excavator, a compact machine with full-size features.
With its reduced tail-swing design, the compact, yet powerful, 10,560-lb. (4,790-kg) ZX50U-5N is perfect for working in congested areas. An independent swing boom and 360-degree rotation let you set up and work almost anywhere. Plus, virtually unlimited visibility and precise control make it a great tool for excavating around existing utilities.
This excavator is a smart choice for trenching, excavating, loading trucks and other tasks in wide-open spaces, according to the manufacturer.
The ZX50U-5N offers plenty of height and reach to get up and over truck sideboards with a maximum reach of 19 ft. 7 in. (5.96 m). It also provides a maximum dig depth of 11 ft. 7 in. (3.53 m). A backfill blade allows the excavator to fill or grade while an optional all-hydraulic blade angles 25 degrees left or right, for even more efficient grading and backfilling.
Compact excavators are commonly used as tool carriers with a wide range of attachments increasing job site versatility. A standard quick-coupler-equipped, boommounted auxiliary line makes attachment hookup on the ZX50U-5N a snap. An auxiliary function lever (AFL) is available with an analog switch, trigger switch and horn for running attachments such as a breaker or an attachment with swing.
The ZX50U-5N allows the engine speed to be matched to the job with power/economy work modes, which are usually only available on larger excavator models. The power mode provides higher engine speeds for most general digging work, while the economy mode reduces engine speed for lighter digging jobs. This results in lower noise and decreased fuel consumption.
The excavator also uses the Hitachi Triple H (HHH) hydraulic system, which enables combined operations by adjusting the optimal flow rate for all actuators. This gives the operator the freedom to provide simultaneous control inputs with no impact on machine performance.
A Tier IV Final compliant, direct-injected Yanmar engine produces 36.3 net hp (27.1 kW) while remaining fuel efficient and impressively quiet. The engine provides a high torque level for more pull-through power.
Designed for Comfort Just because the ZX50U-5N can squeeze into a tight space doesn’t mean the operator should. A spacious operator station has a wide entryway. Swing boom and foldable travel pedals are positioned where they are easy to operate yet allow plenty of foot room. Ergonomic short-throw hydraulic pilot control levers provide smooth, predictable low-effort fingertip operation to reduce operator fatigue. To suit operator preference and increase productivity, control patterns can be quickly switched from backhoe- to excavator-style controls with a control-pattern selector located in a compartment beneath the seat. An enhanced 3.5-in. LCD monitor keeps the operator informed of vital information while allowing fingertip control of several functions, including auto-shutdown and power/economy modes. Comfort inside the spacious cab has been maximized with an automatic, high velocity, bi-level climate-control system with automotive-style adjustable louvers to help keep the glass clear. Durability Built In The ZX50U-5N is built to the same durability stanThe ZX50U-5N allows the engine speed to be matched to the job dards as larger Hitachi excavators. Oil-impregnated HN with power/economy work modes, which are usually only bushings are used on the boom, arm and bucket joints available on larger excavator models. for increased durability. Heavy-duty X-frames provide a rock-solid base that resists material and dirt buildup. A single-pin swing post increases the structural integrity of the digging components. The rubber tracks on the ZX50U-5N feature a unique steel core that resists cracking. Large-diameter drive sprockets and track idlers further increase undercarriage durability. A V-shaped cylinder guard provides added protection to the boom cylinder. To prevent damage to the upper structure, a D-section frame skirt improves upward impact resistance by 20 percent over previous models, according to the manufacturer. The ZX50U-5N offers plenty of height and reach to get up and over truck sideboards with a maximum reach of 19 ft. 7 in. (5.96 m). It also provides a maximum dig depth Maintenance Made Easy of 11 ft. 7 in. (3.53 m). Compact machines can be more challenging to maintain, but not with the ZX50U-5N. A hinged door provides wide-open access to the side-by-side oil cooler and radiator core for easier cleanout. Routine checks, such as engine oil level, are quickly accomplished from ground level. A hydraulic fluid sight gauge and see-through coolant reservoir allow the operator to check at a glance. Adjusting proper track tension only requires a grease gun and a wrench. A large fuel tank, 500- and 2,000-hour engine and hydraulic oil service, and 500-hour greasing intervals enable these excavators to work long hours between scheduled service intervals. The operator station tilts forward 50 degrees, simplifying access to the swing motor, hydraulic control valve, engine starter motor and alternator. To reduce the cost of repair, the traditional curved glass used in the cab has been exchanged with more easily obtainable flat glass. For more information, visit hitachicm.us.

The first four excavator models include the zero tail swing DX27Z-7, DX35Z-7 and DX50Z-7, as well as the reduced tail swing DX55R-7. The new DX27Z-7 expands the Doosan mini-excavator lineup with a model that appeals to customers who need a smaller machine.
Doosan Infracore North America recently introduced its all-new line of next-generation -7 Series mini-excavators in the United States and Canada. The initial launch includes four models, with more mini-excavators to be announced in the coming months.
These completely new mini-excavators are designed and manufactured by Doosan. They are equipped with a family of products, including Doosan engines and diagnostics.
“This is a significant milestone for Doosan as we bring an all-new lineup of mini-excavators to North America,” said Aaron Kleingartner, product and dealer marketing manager.
“A few years ago, we expanded our mini-excavator offering and the response from our dealers and customers was very positive. Now we can provide a Doosan-designed family of mini-excavators from 2.7 metric tons up to approximately 9.0 metric tons to match our customers’ needs.” Performance Features
The Doosan -7 Series mini-excavators come with a newly designed platform to improve structural durability and machine robustness. The redesigned models increase productivity by moving material quickly, and they boost efficiency by being able to perform multiple tasks at once.
Customers can get more productivity from the -7 Series mini excavators due to an increase in counterweight. Integrated into the excavator design, the additional counterweight enhances the excavator’s structural durability while enabling offset digging without the need to reposition the machine.
Lift-over-side capacity also is enhanced because of the machines’ integrated counterweight design. Doosan -7 Series mini-excavators deliver enhanced lifting capacity for moving and placing pipes as well as lifting boulders and hardscape materials.
A long arm design is available as an option for select new models. The longer arm provides operators with greater reach, dump height and dig depth, and operators don’t need to reposition the machine as often, which improves productivity. Some customers prefer to upgrade to a long arm design and avoid purchasing a larger machine for greater dig depth within the same size of excavator. Versatility
Mini-excavators are versatile machines and the new -7 Series models from Doosan maintain that standard. Each new model is available with attachments, including buckets, quick coupler and thumb. The quick coupler significantly reduces the time it takes to switch attachments, which can impact operator productivity and ensure the correct bucket is paired with the digging requirements. Excavator owners can further expand the machines’ versatility by operating approved attachments, such as augers, hydraulic breakers, plate compactors, rippers and grapples.
“All of our -7 Series mini-excavators have a quick-coupler-ready design with auxiliary hydraulics installed to the base of the excavator arm,” Kleingartner said. “Customers won’t need additional accessories to install a quick coupler to the mini-excavator. We also offer adjustable auxiliary hydraulic flow which optimizes the response of hydraulic attachments, including thumbs, hydraulic breakers and augers.”
Flush-face couplers on the end of the hydraulic hoses allow for quick, easy connections when using hydraulicpowered attachments.
Customers can add an optional second set of hydraulics when they need to operate multifunctional attachments that require additional hydraulic flow. For example, secondary auxiliary hydraulics are ideal for using tiltrotator accessories with mini-excavators.
Comfort Features
Doosan -7 Series mini-excavators come standard with enclosed cabs with heat and air conditioning and multiple vents throughout the cab. This is designed to not only keep operators more comfortable, but it minimizes dirt and debris inside the machine for a cleaner work environment. Available for further operator comfort are a heated seat and fold-up foot pedals for additional floor space.
An open canopy is available as an option on -7 Series mini-excavators and comes with a rollover protective structure (ROPS).

The DX35Z-7 mini-excavator features a zero tail swing design with a rounded shape. The DX27Z-7 mini-excavator is a new size class for the North American lineup. For enhanced visibility from inside the cab, the -7 Series mini-excavators are designed with full glass, framed doors for a clear view of the area alongside the machine. This can be important for the operator when working in tight areas or going through narrow openings.
A new rearview camera is available as an option for increased visibility behind the excavator. Note, this option requires the machine to be configured with the 5.7-in. LCD monitor. Standard LED lamps illuminate the work area and ensure the operator can see the excavator workgroup, particularly the attachment, when working in low-light areas.
Joysticks in Doosan -7 Series mini-excavators are now similar to those installed in large Doosan crawlers and wheel excavators. This makes it easy for operators to move from a mini-excavator to a larger machine or vice versa and operate with confidence. On the right joystick, a thumb switch controls the excavator’s auxiliary hydraulic functions. A thumb switch on the left joystick controls the excavator’s boom swing.
Serviceability
A swing-open tailgate and side-access hood provide easy access to the excavator’s engine and pump package, valve bank, cooling system and hydraulic system. Everyday maintenance items like filters, fluids, air cleaner and battery are also easy to reach. A centralized grease bank makes it simple for operators to properly add grease to the machine. Additional maintenance features include the following: • Battery disconnect switch • Color-coded and labeled wiring and hydraulic hoses
Doosan Telematics
Available for the first time on Doosan mini-excavators is a standard telematics system. The DoosanCONNECT Telematics system comes with every Doosan -7 Series miniexcavator model, making it easy for owners to remotely monitor and maintain their machine. This is the same system that is available for larger Doosan construction equipment, and owners can monitor their entire Doosan fleet through a smartphone app or web browser.
Compact equipment, including mini-excavators, is among the most stolen pieces of construction equipment. Now, with telematics, mini-excavator owners can use the systems’ antitheft feature to remotely keep track of the machine. The system can alert owners when a machine is moved outside of an area. Another benefit is the system can notify owners if a machine is being operated during an unauthorized time. DX27Z-7 Mini-Excavator
