Designed to be completed in stages, a complex reconstruction project for NY Route 17 and Interstate 81 in the city of Binghamton, N.Y., is now more than halfway complete. Work is currently under way on the $152 million second phase of Prospect Mountain construction. “The main objective of the project is to address safety, operational and structural deficiencies,” said New York State Department of Transportation (NYSDOT) spokesperson Curtis Jetter. “This work will improve safety by correcting

vehicle weaving and eliminating traffic bottlenecks by limiting merging traffic and lane changes.” The work will enhance the mobility of commerce and safety of the local traveling public and tourists in the region. Jetter said the timing is right. “The existing structures are at the end of their useful life. NYSDOT has taken measures to stay on budget and schedule by progressing work that can be done during the winter season.” The Phase II contract was awarded in 2016. $275 million Saul Centers project is located at the intersection of North Glebe Road and Wilson Boulevard in an effectual 3-mi. stretch of commercial and residential developments. The property is situated across from the Ballston Common Mall and three blocks from the Ballston Metro Station, served by the Orange and Silver lines.

The 2.8-acre site plan approval was granted from Arlington County for the development of a 12-story complex housing approximately 490 residential units and 62,000 sq. ft. of retail space.
