Vessel (aka, Hudson Yards Staircase) is a public structure and landmark built as part of the Hudson Yards Redevelopment Project in Manhattan. The concept for Vessel was revealed in 2016. Construction started in April 2017. The structure was complete in December 2017 and opened to the public on March 15, 2019.

NEW YORK (AP) New York’s $25 billion Hudson Yards development is open to the public, offering both basic daily life amenities and luxuries that have earned it the nickname “Manhattan’s mini-city.” People lined up March 15 to climb the 2,500 steps to the top of a massive, honeycomb-shaped sculpture called Vessel — the visual centerpiece of a complex of high-rises on Manhattan’s West Side with pricey commercial and residential space, plus about 100 shops and restaurants. CNN’s Anderson Cooper hosted the inaugural ceremony, joined by singer Andra Day, Democratic Sen. Chuck Schumer and a lineup of New York business luminaries. CNN will be a tenant at Hudson Yards along with its parent company, WarnerMedia. Other well-known corporate tenants include the BlackRock money manager, L’Oreal USA, Equinox and Coach. The largest public high school in the state of Maryland is currently taking shape at an estimated cost of more than $150 million. The four-story building will cover approximately 440,000 sq. ft. and will serve as the new Seneca Valley High School in Germantown, Montgomery County. The school is expected to be ready for the start of the 2020/2021 school year and will have the capacity for more than 3,000 students. Ground was broken in September 2017 and completion is set for August 2020. The following year, the current facility will be demolished and the grounds will be completed. Construction of the new building is taking place on the school’s old athletic fields. Upon completion of the new building, the new athletic fields will be built where the current building stands today. The contract for construction management was awarded to Dustin Construction,
Ijamsville, Md. Funding for the project is part of the Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) Capital Improvement budget, as reported by Derek Turner, director of the Department of Communications for MCPS. The project was reportedly divided into in three phases, over the course of four years, including existing utility relocation; the new building, adjacent parking lots and stadium; and demolition, parking lot and field completion. Marc J. Cohen, has been principal of Seneca Valley since 2010. Prior to that, he served as principal of Martin Luther King, Jr. Middle School — a SVHS feeder school — for four years. “Our community has been asking for a new school for many years now,” he said. “This state-of-the-art facility will revitalize and inspire for decades to come.” Seneca Valley High School opened in 1974 with 251,278 sq. ft. on 29.4 acres. see SCHOOL page 30
