Metso Outotec Expands Next-Gen 24/7 Metrics Monitoring System

The innovative cloud-based Metrics monitoring system portfolio is one of Metso Outotec’s key digital solutions for customers. Metso Outotec is now expanding Metrics to cover the tools, sensors and dashboard access for monitoring customers’ stationary screening equipment.

With its 24/7 online monitoring capabilities, Metrics offers improved safety, increased uptime and throughput, and reduced unplanned maintenance. It enables operators, controllers and service professionals to see real-time analysis of vibrating screen performance and bearing condition.

Metrics is designed for intuitive operation. An easy-to-read screen dashboard with OEM insights makes it possible to quickly detect potential issues and take corrective action in time.

In June, Metso Outotec announced a global cooperation agreement with Dynamox, which offers an innovative condition monitoring platform. Metrics for screens is the first solution utilizing Dynamox’s easy-to-install instrumentation that can be complemented with comprehensive value-added services and remote monitoring capabilities in the customer’s value chain.

“The customer feedback received has helped us to offer a solution focused on customer centricity and sustainability. Metrics for screens helps customers to optimize their process, as they can easily see how the changes implemented have impacted their screening operations,” said Jan Wirth, technology director of Metso Outotec’s Screening Solutions business.

“In addition, continuous monitoring helps in the avoidance of several potential breakdowns. It also has a positive impact on sustainability, as running the screen in an optimal way enables increased uptime and less consumption of media, spare parts, oil and energy. Our strong development roadmap will enable us to release more data-driven and value-added services soon.”

By combining Metrics with its global service footprint, Metso Outotec and its distributor partners can support customers in making data-driven decisions that impact their screening operations, the company said.

Metso Outotec launched an upgraded version of Metrics for aggregates customers’ Lokotrack mobile crushers and screens in April 2022. The new remote monitoring solution brings significantly better connectivity and optimization benefits, as well as CO2 tracking capabilities to aggregate customers’ crushing processes.

The Metrics solution is part of Metso Outotec’s Planet Positive portfolio.

Metso Outotec Metrics is available for cone crushers, screens, pressure filters, Courier analyzers, primary gyratories and grinding mills. More equipment types and new features are continuously under development. Metrics is a part of Metso Outotec’s digital offering.

LICA Educational Foundation for Veterans Names Eddy S. Mayen as Exec. Director

The Land Improvement Contractors of America (LICA) Educational Foundation for Veterans announced that Eddy S. Mayen has assumed the role of its executive director.

The Foundation’s mission is to train military veterans to become highly skilled heavy equipment operators for the construction industry. Mayen himself is a veteran of the U.S. Army, enlisted as an active duty artillery soldier, then serving in the New Jersey National Guard and achieving the rank of 1st Lieutenant.

Mayen’s grant experience includes nine years at the New Jersey Department of State as Director of the State Trade Expansion Program (STEP), which awarded $7 million to New Jersey small businesses. He then served as National Director of the STEP grant program at the U.S. Small Business Administration headquarters in Washington, D.C.

“Eddy is a great communicator and uniquely qualified to take on this leadership role on behalf of the Foundation,” said the organization’s founder, Gerald Biuso Sr.

“I first became acquainted with him through the New Jersey chapter of LICA. Not only is he a military veteran; he has also worked extensively in grant-writing and has experience in land improvement.”

The LICA Foundation has applied for grant funds to be awarded by the American Rescue Plan Good Jobs Challenge. The grant program, sponsored by the U.S. Economic Development Administration (EDA), has as its goal helping underserved Americans find good-paying jobs through partnerships with employers in

need of trained workers. Mayen wrote the Foundation’s grant proposal, outlining how it will develop an ongoing pipeline of highly skilled heavy equipment operators to help fill the thousands of existing open jobs, while supporting our nation’s veterans.

The Foundation will work with the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) to identify candidates to participate in a comprehensive equipment training program. The curriculum includes simulator training on heavy equipment operation and safety protocols before advancing to field training that will be provided by LICA contractors, equipment dealers and subcontractors.

“In the military, there is no such thing as light equipment,” Mayen said. “It’s a natural career move for veterans to transition to the heavy equipment industry. They’re accustomed to working independently while being part of a team, and have already been thoroughly trained to follow instructions, pay attention to detail, be great problemsolvers and constantly safety-conscious.”

LICA members are committed to the mission by helping prepare veteransfor the workforce, providing good-paying jobs and offering flexibility with the challenges they may face when transitioning into civilian life.

“My role as executive director of the LICA Educational Foundation for Veterans isn’t just a job,” said Mayen. “It’s a personal mission. I immigrated to the U.S. as a child, and I want my children to understand how good this country is, how important it is to me. What’s been remarkable thus far is discovering just how dedicated LICA members are to helping veterans. I’m proud to be a part of the Foundation and am excited to see where we go.”

Mayen can be reached by email at emayen@licaveteransfoundation.org.

Oshkosh Corporation to Acquire Hinowa

Oshkosh Corporation, an innovator of mission-critical vehicles and essential equipment, announced it has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire Hinowa S.p.A., a privately held international company and manufacturer of track-based aerial work platforms, mini dumpers, lift trucks and undercarriages.

Once complete, Hinowa will become part of the Oshkosh Access Equipment segment.

“We look forward to welcoming the Hinowa team into the Oshkosh family,” said John Pfeifer, Oshkosh Corporation’s president and chief executive officer. “This acquisition will accelerate our electrification capabilities and provide growth opportunities across core and adjacent markets.”

Hinowa is well-known for its advanced track designs and electrification expertise as an early adopter and leader in lithium-ion battery technology. Hinowa has produced JLG compact crawler boom lifts since 2010, including electric, hybrid and diesel-powered models.

“We are excited to expand our long-term relationship with Hinowa,” said Frank Nerenhausen, executive vice president, Oshkosh Corporation and president, JLG Industries. “Combining our capabilities will enable us to better serve customers and expand our operational footprint in Europe.”

Hinowa was founded in 1987 in Nogara, Italy, and today has an approximate 250,000 sq. ft. manufacturing facility and 50,000 sq. ft. parts facility with nearly 230 team members. The company has a long history of innovation, offering a diverse line of premium products for work at height and vegetation management applications.

“We are pleased to join Oshkosh Corporation,” said Dante Fracca, founder and owner of Hinowa. “Our successful 12-year relationship with JLG, along with shared core values around culture, safety, productivity and sustainability position us well for the future.”
