Fat Truck Amphibious Vehicle Revolutionizes Power Line Work
Zeal Motor Inc. announced the official launch of its new high speed capstan drive mounted on the Fat Truck.
The high-speed capstan drive integrated on the back of an amphibious vehicle redefines the safety standards and the productivity level when working in harsh terrain on powerlines, according to the manufacturer.
High-speed capstan drives are usually mounted on much larger equipment. Before today, it was not possible to work efficiently with a high-speed capstan drive with smaller and more affordable equipment.
The integrated solution mounted on the back of a Fat Truck answers the market’s need of working in safer conditions and being more productive in harsh terrains, the manufacturer said.
“By diverting the high flow hydraulic of the Fat Truck we were able to achieve a significant gain of productivity and improve the lifting capacity to install / change insulators, transformers or any other lifting requirements at the pole,” said Amine Khimjee, vice president of sales and marketing at Zeal Motor Inc.
“This new option is totally integrated on the vehicle and was designed with the expertise of the linemen. The utilities now have the capacity of the larger equipment, the lower cost of operation and mobility of the smaller ATV’s.
The synergy of having the utility companies involved in the project was key to have the right tool at the right moment for the right job. The Fat Truck integrated solution with the high-speed capstan drive offers a lifting capacity of up to 1,900 lb., a maximum speed of up to 300 ft./minutes and can handle angles from minus 30 degree to 45 degrees.
Zeal Motor, based in Bromont, Quebec, Canada, manufactures industrial utility vehicles that provide solutions to companies working in infrastructure such as powerlines, pipelines, mining exploration and first responder vehicles.

Tri-State Trailer Sales Fosters Growth Via 12 Manufacturers
TRAILERS from page 59
these companies had a need that a competitor couldn’t meet, or it could explore ways to expand its market.
The answer came when Tri-State Trailer Sales added trailers manufactured by Eager Beaver to its product lines. As Mike Milanovich, sales executive at Tri-State Trailer Sales explained it, Eager Beaver produces trailers well-suited to contractors and startup companies with a need to haul smaller machines.
“Adding this brand of trailers opened up opportunities with smaller companies, allowing us to partner with them and grow along with them,” Milanovich said. “Another key to the company’s ongoing success is listening to the customer, understanding their needs and tailoring our stock and business strategies to address them.”
While Tri-State Trailer Sales provides trailers for general freight hauling, liquid and dry bulk commodity flat beds and tank trailers, the construction industry currently accounts for 30 percent of its business and the segment continues to grow.
In its construction related business segment, the company sets itself apart from competitors in a number of ways; first and foremost is the depth and variety of trailers the company offers.
Tri-State Trailer Sales has developed an extensive inventory of used trailers acquired through trade-ins and direct purchases at auctions and sourced from end users. The company’s leasing and rental branch, TSTL, also is unique in that while it offers longterm leases like other leasing companies, it also offers the option for short-term rentals.
“For contractors, hiring a hauling company to move equipment from one job site to another can be expensive and scheduling to avoid downtime can be difficult,” said TSTL Leasing Manager Drew Hulme. “Instead, the contractor can count on TSTL for a daily trailer rental and move equipment themselves to save both time and money. TSTL also offers a depth of rental inventory that sets us apart from competitors and positions our company to meet a wide range of trailering needs.”
Milanovich, along with Territory Representative Randy Infield, are Tri-State Trailer Sales’ lead representatives for construction-related trailers. Milanovich separates the business into two categories: general construction and specialized trailers.
“On the general construction side, the

company offers Dorsey, Eager Beaver, Fontaine, Landoll, Manac, Transcraft and XL Specialized,” he said. According to Milanovich, Tri-State Trailer Sales’ specialized trailers consist of the 55LCC, a 55-ton trailer with an 18-in. loaded deck height and a 55-ton drop side rail trailer manufactured by Fontaine and a 55-ton low boy trailer with a 15-in. loaded deck height manufactured by XL Specialized. Additional specialized trailers include a 60-ton flat level deck trailer and beam trailer options manufactured by Fontaine along with a mini deck trailer with 12-in. deck height for height sensitive loads and numerous extendable trailers for over dimensional loads manufactured by Fontaine and XL Specialized. The company also has Landoll 35- and 40-ton traveling axles and traveling tail trailers available and 35- and 50-ton paving detaches manufactured by Eager Beaver as well as its 20- and 25-ton tag trailers. Milanovich added that galvanizing is available on many of is trailers and the company also stocks accessories such as flip axles, flip boxes and spreader bars. CEG

Isuzu Commercial Truck of America Inc. announced major running changes that will enhance its 2022 interim model year NSeries diesel trucks.
The trucks — designated as model year 2022i — were announced by the company during the National Truck Equipment Association’s Work Truck Week 2021 virtual trade-show event.
“The positive economic outlook for 2021 suggests that the medium-duty segment will grow this year,” said Shaun C. Skinner, president of both Isuzu Commercial Truck of America and Isuzu Commercial Truck of Canada. “These changes to the foundation of our lineup — our Class 3 through 5 N-Series diesel-powered trucks — respond to our customers’ requests and come at the perfect time to take advantage of growth in this segment.”

Vehicle Assist Features
Standard on all 2022i N-Series diesel models will be electronic vehicle stability control (EVSC). EVSC monitors the truck’s steering wheel angle, individual wheel rotation speed, lateral G forces and more. When the system senses that the vehicle is at risk of losing stability, it alerts the driver via an ondash warning light and automatically reduces engine output and applies braking pressure as needed to help the truck maintain stability.
EVSC works in tandem with anti-slip regulation (ASR), an advanced traction-control system that works to provide grip when the truck is on loose or wet surfaces. ASR also will be standard on all 2022i N-Series diesel trucks.
Both EVSC and
ASR can be manually deactivated by the driver through switches conveniently located on the instrument panel.
An all-new advanced driver assistance system (ADAS) will be optional on all models in the 2022i N-Series diesel truck range. The ADAS package consists of an automatic emergency braking system and a lane departure warning system. Both of these features utilize a new dual-camera sensing system mounted atop the vehicle’s dashboard.
The optional automatic emergency braking system (AEBS) includes both vehicle and pedestrian detection. The system will warn the driver with both visual and audible alerts and, if necessary, will automatically apply braking force to reduce vehicle speed. AEBS can be deactivated through an instrument panel-mounted switch. The optional lane departure warning system (LDWS) uses the dual-camera sensing system to “read” the lines on the road ahead. If a driver strays too far from the road’s center, both visual and audio alerts will warn the driver. As an added convenience, LDWS allows the driver to adjust the system’s sensitivity through a switch on the instrument panel.
For customers who do not order the optional advanced driver assistance system, Isuzu will continue to offer the Mobileye suite of collision and lane-departure warning systems as optional equipment.
The 2022i Isuzu N-Series dieselpowered trucks will begin production in July 2021, and will be available at Isuzu’s network of nearly 300 dealers in the United States in the third quarter of 2021.

Four-Wheel Disc Brakes
Isuzu will add rear disc brakes to the already-standard front disc brakes on the MY 2022i NPR-HD, NPR-XD, NQR and NRR diesel models. The NPR-HD will feature front and rear 293mm × 40mm discs, while the NPR-XD, NQR and NRR will offer 363mm × 42mm discs up front and 348mm × 42mm discs in the rear.
The discs are part of a new Vacuum + Power Assist Brake System with anti-locking braking (ABS). At the limit point of normal vacuum assist, a hydraulic unit will provide additional line pressure. Vacuum assist is a new standard feature for both the NQR and NRR.
Fuel Tank Improvements
Fuel tank improvements abound in the 2022i N-Series diesel truck. The standard 30-gal. fuel tank will now be constructed of stainless steel rather than conventional steel to improve corrosion resistance. The tank also will be flush mounted to the top of the frame and will feature top-mounted, threeeighths-inch fuel return and fuel supply ports to help eliminate cutting and drilling the tank during auxiliary fuel port applications.
Two aluminum side-mounted fuel tanks will be available as factory-installed options:
• A 35-gal. tank will be offered for standard cab and crew cab models with either the 150- or 176-in. wheelbase. • A 55-gal. tank will be offered for standard cab and crew cab models with the 176in. wheelbase.
Both optional tanks will be left-hand-side mounted. The previous optional 33-gal. right-hand-side mounted tank has been discontinued.
Fuel Sedimenter Upgrade
A larger fuel sedimenter/filter on 2022i NSeries diesel trucks will allow for improved service intervals. The water separator body will feature a translucent red body, making it easy to identify and to determine when water needs to be drained.
A heater will be standard with the fuel sedimenter/filter.
Exterior, Interior
Design Enhancements
Customers will notice a number of design changes both inside and outside the 2022i NSeries diesel trucks.
On the exterior, bi-LED headlamps with signature light will deliver more light and less heat than halogen bulbs in both low- and high-beam modes. These lamps, plus turn signals with a new shape and accent brow, surround a standard matte silver grille, replacing the previous white grille. A chrome grille will remain an option.
Inside Isuzu’s Hexapod cab, customers will see darker gray color schemes on the lower section coupled with darker accents including the steering wheel, gear shift lever, parking brake lever and other controls, while lighter gray components up above create a greater sense of spaciousness. Seating surfaces will now be covered in a gray and blue cross-pattern tricot fabric that adds a modern look and feel while reducing the appearance of stains and scuffs.
Availability
The 2022i Isuzu N-Series diesel-powered trucks will begin production in July 2021, and will be available at Isuzu’s network of nearly 300 dealers in the United States in the third quarter of 2021. Isuzu Commercial Truck of Canada also will distribute 2022i Isuzu N-Series diesel-powered trucks through its dealers.
“We’re excited to introduce our new 2022i N-Series diesel trucks,” Skinner said. “They bring new levels of safety, driver assistance, convenience and comfort to our customers, and they are sure to help us maintain Isuzu’s position as the number-one-selling low cab forward truck in the North American market for the 36th year in a row.”
