Changing two lanes into four lanes on a 48-mi. (77 km) stretch and constructing 69 bridges is no easy task. This massive project along the Wisconsin 26 corridor was broken into eight segments, stretching from the Interstate 90 intersection at Janesville, on the southern end of the project, north to the Wisconsin 60 east intersection north of Watertown. Wisconsin 26 is an important route connecting communities and major highways in Rock, Jefferson and Dodge counties in the south central part of the state. Feds Obligate $7B in Highway Funds for 2013, So Far

Federal, state and local transportation departments of transportation (DOTs) have so far obligated $7 billion in federal funds during Fiscal Year (FY) 2013, which began last Oct. 1, according to the latest analysis of Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) data by the American Road & Transportation Builders Association (ARTBA). This is an increase of 56 percent over the $4.5 billion obligated during the same time period last year.

Nearly $120B Spent on 2012 Transportation Jobs State departments of transportation (DOTs) and local governments committed a little more than $117 billion in funding for highway, bridge, transit, port and other transportation-related construction projects during 2012, according to new

analysis of the most recent U.S. Census Bureau data by the American Road & Transportation Builders Association (ARTBA). ARTBA’s monthly report, “Value of Transportation Construction Put in Place,” was

compiled by Alison Premo Black, the association’s chief economist. Black noted that while this represents a one percent increase over the $116 billion committed in 2011, real transportation construction activity fell well short of its

2010 peak, when $129 billion worth of construction work was “put in place” during the year, in large part because of the American Recovery & Reinvestment Act. Black’s analysis also found the see TRANSPORTATION page 86
