ICUEE 2017 ROUNDUP: By Emily Buenzle CEG WEB EDITOR
Seven Events You Won’t Want to Miss
ICUEE 2017 will be here before you know it, and with a record size of 28 acres to hold more than 900 exhibitors, this year’s show is sure to be a great one. “ICUEE comes around only once every two years, and record exhibit space translates to more product innovations on the show floor, so don’t miss out,” said Show Director Tricia Mallett. “We’ve got plenty of transportation to get attendees around all the lots, a streamlined layout and plenty of rest areas.” Here’s a roundup of some key highlights to look forward to as the exhibition draws near: • ICUEE 2017’s “field classrooms” will allow attendees to see the industry’s best practices up close in a series of education sessions. Ten 90-minute walk-around sessions will center on aerial devices, fleet management, high voltage transmission technology, horizontal directional drilling and vacuum excavation. “Education really ramps up the value of ICUEE for attendees; they have convenient access to a variety of quality industryfocused sessions to gain knowledge that improves their job performance and helps their companies succeed,” said Rick Rodier, ICUEE 2017 chair and vice president and general manager of the Sitework Systems Division of The Toro Company. • The ICUEE Demo Stage will include more than 20 different 20-minute exhibitor demonstrations to show off product innovations and best practices. In addition, the Test Drive Zone features a two-mile track to try out on-road equipment and technologies. • The exposition will host iP Utility Safety Conference and the Utility Fleet Conference, both Oct. 2 to 4; and will provide certification opportunities through the Certified Utility Safety Professional (CUSP) certification program and the National Commission for the Certification of Crane Operators (NCCCO) certification exams. • On Oct. 4, Gretchen Bakke, author of “The Grid: The

Fraying Wires Between Americans” will appear as a featured speaker during a special luncheon to share her views on “the diverse people and ideas that are coming together to build the next generation electrical infrastructure,” ICUEE said. ICUEE’s owner and producer Association of Equipment Manufacturers (AEM) and Terex Utilities have partnered together to host the luncheon. Afterwards, a meet-and-greet book signing with Bakke will take place at the AEM Booth #3340. • AEM will host a series of “Tomorrow’s Topics Today” sessions at Booth #3340. The program is a companion to the group’s “Thinking Forward” series, which focuses on trends and technological developments that are impacting equipment manufacturing in various ways. Sessions include “Women Energizing the Utility Industry,” where a panel of leaders will discuss their thoughts on the opportunities and challenges women face in an industry that is only 23 percent female; and “An Under-40 Success Story,” featuring Ernie Stephens Superior Construction corporate equipment manager of a $60 million fleet, as well as a networking opportunity for young industry professionals. Other topics covered include drone use; live wearables; utility market forecasts; rural broadband and smart

farms; technology and its industry impact; and a look forward at Capitol Hill’s renewed focus on utility infrastructure. • ICUEE 2017 will have exhibit pavilions set up for fleet management, safety and green utilities, Chinese and Korean pavilions and the Lift Safety Zone, a special exhibit from NCCCO. • ICUEE, J.J. Kane Auctions and Call of Duty Endowment (CODE) have partnered together to help connect military veterans with industry jobs. To support the cause, the groups will host a silent and live benefit auction. One hundred percent of the ICUEE Benefit Auction proceeds will support the Call of Duty Endowment, a national organization that helps military veterans find high quality jobs by supporting groups that prepare them for the job market and raising awareness of the value that veterans bring to the workplace. CODE has funded the placement of more than 34,000 veterans, with the goal of placing 50,000 veterans in jobs by 2019. Every $619 raised by the group helps a veteran get a good job. Online bidding will begin on Sept. 5. The auction has no minimums and no reserves. see ICUEE page 12

[ Isuzu Diesel ] The Tier IV engines and power units branded under Isuzu REDTech provide quiet, low maintenance and fuel-efficient solutions for existing and new applications needed today and into the future. From 11.8 to 512 hp, these engines use a unique technology without a DPF (diesel particulate filter). Each engine is precision tuned for its highest efficiency, while reducing oil and fuel consumption. A long-lasting and robust fuel injection system is incorporated for excellent fuel economy and extended service life, according to the manufacturer. Stringent criteria of lowering NVH (noise, vibration, harshness) are engineered into every Isuzu engine. Each application is designed to meet customer specifications and is engineering validated for each environment. Isuzu REDTech engines with reliable performance, durability and high thermal efficiency help eliminate downtime. All of this is supported by the company’s dedicated professionals who are disciplined in engineering, manufacturing, and management to ensure the right solutions for its customers, the company said. A lot of work can be done with just one excavator, or even one loader. Adding in a crushing or screening attachment will give excavators and loaders one more capability. Underground utilities, pipeline work and road work, to name a few, are industries altered by the use of crushing and screening attachments. These two types of attachments have worked in underground areas and around pipelines — where for some contractors, the work proved to be difficult and required several calculated navigation tech-
niques that only skilled operators could manage. In these scenarios, crushing and screening attachments become two more tools that contractors can use to increase work productivity. MB Crusher manufactures a line of jaw crusher and trommel screening attachments that allow contractors to easily move with their equipment and manage material right where they are, according to the company. Contractors also have the ability to reuse materials immediately at the job site and pro-

With our attachments, you can crush and screen right there on-site and reuse the materials,” said Max Ravazzolo, CEO of MB Crusher America Inc. MB products are manufactured with Hardox wear parts to be durable and longlasting. They are ISO 9001:2008 certified — which this certification reassures customers are receiving the best quality products. In addition to crushing and screening attachments, MB offers 360-degree rotation grapples and dual head rotary drum cutters. MB products also are seen in a wide range of industries — besides underground, pipeline work, and road work — including demolition and excavation, quarries, mining and environmental reclamation projects. [ Kasi Infrared Corp. ] Elliott Equipment Company is announcing the development of the company’s newest track vehicle mounted boom truck model, the 34142, featuring a 34-ton (30.8 t) capacity, 142 ft. (43 m) main boom, and a telescopic jib. The 34142 track-vehicle crane was purpose-built to serve the utility transmission construction industry in off-road applications that require a track-vehicle mounted solution with both material handling capabilities as well as the ability to lift personnel to assemble transmission lines. Developed in partnership with Scott Powerline & Utility Equipment and PowerTraxx vehicles, the 34142 is designed to provide more than 207 ft. (63 m) of vertical reach with a two-man work platform, while maintaining a low enough weight to allow for mounting on the PowerTraxx 15-SWH mid-size track carrier that reduces rental and transportation costs, according to the manufacturer. The Elliott 34142 track vehicle’s key features and options include: • 34-ton rated crane capacity • 142 ft. 5-section steel boom with 152 ft. (46 m) tip height • 32 to 49 ft.
