Deep black panelling and a striking gold ceiling coffer bring drama to the VIP room.

Throughout the area, there is a strong sense of celebrating femininity in a very beautiful and sophisticated way. The gentle green wall panelling is accented by warm pink blush tones in

Attention to detail was key, especially with the materials used. Designers ensured that all elements were rightfully considered. They retained a simple colour palette to keep the salon from feeling overly complicated and busy. Soft green panelling and fresh mosaic marble flooring are offset with the warmth of the subtle pink stone in the onyx bar, bronze metal finishes and blush fabrics.

OFFICE 313’s most recent project is Beautique in Kuwait, a high end salon specialising in hair and nail treatments. This Beautique branch is the second branch created by OFFICE 313. This newest branch aims to serve a new range of clients who want a quieter option to the downtown branch. The second Beautique branch’s design approach was a continuation and extension of the brand’s design identity.

The team as a whole intended to investigate the concept of real separation. A place where consumers may unplug and unwind from the stresses of everyday life.

Beautique’s latest location, located in a relatively peaceful and outlying neighbourhood, aims to offer a new range of clients who want a quieter option to the city branch.Because it is located in a reasonably peaceful neighbourhood, thedesign presents itself as a gentler, calmer experience that blends in with the suburban fabric.

Working with an atypical layout, the key challenge was to create a place that provides harmony and space mobility while still preserving privacy.

The second Beautique branch’s design approach was a continuation and extension of the brand’s design identity. We wanted to investigate the concept of actual separation as a group.

A place where consumers may unplug and unwind from the stresses of everyday life.

The key design issue was to arrange all of the functionality in a way that was both aesthetically pleasing and functional. Because of the peculiar space configuration, this was extremely tough. After several revisions, we created a series of vaults that enhance function while also distinguishing each distinct place. The project’s interior is split by a series of selected vaults. We were able to use the odd layout and offer a sense of fluidi ty and order to a very unorganised area by using the vaults as the defining element. The vaults have storage space, shelving, and hidden lighting that illuminates the space below gently. The salon features curved chairs, shelves, and mirrors.

The project is divided into three major sections: reception, acrylic tables, nail therapy stations, and hair stations. The material palette for the project includes white-cast concrete, Stucco, and natural stone.

Sustainable

Victoria ZAERA

responsible of the industrial and energy department in ASCERTile of Spain, discusses how sustainability is critical to the industry's development.

Sustainability has long been a top concern in the creation of smart cities, aligning with the global push to cut carbon emissions. The Middle East area has made tremendous advances in construction and design, inspiring global creativity in addressing environmental issues.

One area of particular importance in the construction industry is the Spanish Ceramic sector, which is leading the way in producing truly sustainable tiles. These tiles offer not only cost-effectiveness and durability but also environmental friendliness, benefiting both the infrastructure and its occupants. The rising demand for Spanish Ceramic tiles in recent years has been driven by their known durability and energy economy, resulting in a lower environmental impact. However, the pursuit of sustainability does not end there. The Spanish ceramic tile sector has the opportunity to incorporate more characteristics that fit with net-zero goals through continual innovation and design advancements.

Embracing digital innovation and reducing energy usage

The global Ceramic Tiles Market was estimated at USD 227.9 billion in 2023 and is expected to witness a CAGR of 7.1% from 2022 to 2027. Known to be an energy-intensive industry, Spanish manufacturers of ceramic tiles are

harnessing the power of digital innovation to minimise energy consumption. And due to the current environmental situation and the responsibility of the construction market, the ; Spanish ceramic tile makers have a responsibility for sustainability and innovation which is being one of their priority issues.

In the Middle East region particularly, this industry is increasingly leading a trend for integrating interior design to enhance up the sustainable drive. Widely used in residential and commercial projects, Spanish ceramic tiles dominate the design game for their aesthetic appeal, durability, and versatility. With such impressive dynamics, ceramic tile manufacturers are paving the way for a greener future that goes beyond the obvious carbon footprint. The crossover to digital printing is revolutionising the design possibilities by allowing intricate patterns, realistic textures, and replication of various materials like wood and stone without much of a carbon footprint drill. Whether it´s tech-enabled walkthroughs of projects for client previews or the latest technology to offer a variety of choices within the realm of sustainability; the Spanish ceramic tile industry, Tile of Spain, is putting its best plan forward for the Middle East’s net-zero targets.

Responsible resource consumption

Undoubtedly, manufacturers should prioritise eco-friendly practices, incorporating the use of recycled materials and obtaining certifications to validate their commitment to sustainability. Rethinking current manufacturing processes is another crucial step towards reducing environmental impact. Implementing initiatives such as repurposing remnants as raw materials for new products can significantly reduce waste generation. It is also important to recover as much clay waste as possible before firing to minimise the need for virgin raw materials and decrease environmental impact.

In terms of water usage, it is worth noting that 80% of the water used during Spanish ceramic tile manufacturing evaporates, while the remaining 20% can be recycled and reused to achieve zero water discharge. Developing reclaiming methods and utilising slurries and water-based suspensions can be effective in replacing the water previously required in the manufacturing process, thereby minimising dumping.

Study sustainability for enhanced net-zero vision

A product's environmental profile throughout its lifecycle must be examined from a global perspective in order to increase sustainability. When a product uses its raw resources effectively and has a minimal impact on the environment over the course of its life, it is said to be environmentally friendly. Additionally, it must perform flawlessly without providing a risk during usage, and when disposed of or recycled, it must have no negative effects on the environment.

Leading by example, the Spanish ceramic tile industry has analysed the production process of ceramic tiles for decades and pioneered obtaining the first Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs). The Environmental Product Declarations are Type III labels according to the ISO 14020 standard, which provides information on the environmental impact of a product throughout its lifecycle. While the certification system is currently voluntary, it is likely to become an integral feature in promoting the competitiveness and environmental awareness of brands globally.

Advancing sustainability through industry leadership

The Spanish ceramic industry is renowned for its unwavering commitment to sustainability and its remarkable energy efficiency ratios, outperforming other tile sectors internationally. Through dedicated efforts, the Spanish industry has embraced innovative techniques to optimise traditional processes, placing a strong emphasis on eco-friendliness. As a result, it has achieved the highest energy efficiency ratio per unit of output among global tile industries. Spain and Italy are both leaders in energy efficiency in ceramic tile manufacture, outperforming the rest of the European Union. Their commitment to sustainability has enabled them to thrive in terms of reducing environmental impact and optimising resource utilisation.

An environmentally friendly product has low raw material consumption, a small environmental imprint, high functionality, and poses no risks during use or disposal. Tile of Spain, a Spanish ceramic tile company, is an excellent example of a sustainable material that prioritises these factors, assuring a sustainable and responsible approach to product creation.

Turning Vision into

Reality

You have an interesting career path; could you tell me about it?

My desire to create one-of-a-kind dining concepts has always driven me. With my finance degree, I was able to understand the world of hospitality through a business lens, which has given me an eye for developing creative concepts that are successful in the sector today. My career began when I was in university, and I worked in a variety of positions ranging from waitressing to hostessing to bartending. From here, I moved on to work at Bâoli international, Billionaire, and many other venues where I was able to skillfully elevate revenues and manage operations. With time, I moved on to Provocateur in Dubai as a Relations Director, then to Billionaire

NOHM HOSPITALITY is excited to bring and premiere in Dubai the internationally recognised French (Cannes) concept, Bâoli.

CEO OF NOHM HOSPITALITY, TALKS ABOUT HER PROFESSIONAL JOURNEY, THE BRAND'S GOALS, THE LATEST DINING INNOVATIONS, AND HOW TECHNOLOGY IS CHANGING THE GAME.

as the Operations Director, and finally to Vonston Group in Geneva as the Managing Director. Finally, in 2023, I became CEO of NOHM Hospitality.

What drew you into the hospitality industry?

My love of eating and travel has been the main inspiration behind my profession. I enjoy gathering unusual experiences from all around the world and all the cuisine I've had from different cultures, which I can all relate to the brands I've worked on. I've been able to bring my passion for interior design and want to assist the younger generation in achieving their goals to the roles I've held while working to either develop new concepts or the team members.

16 design-middleeast.com DESIGN MIDDLE EAST | SEPTEMBER 2023
Interview

What led to the establishment of NOHM Hospitality?

Dubai is a tremendous hospitality hotspot; new restaurants, bars, lounges, and clubs emerge every day, and we wanted to provide a fresh viewpoint to the business. We intended to deliver new and unique experiences through new venus, thus the Founder of NOHM Hospitality formed this hospitality group, with myself at the helm.

What is your primary design goal for NOHM?

At NOHM Hospitality, we try to bring to life the vision of our clients, or ours, to life through different design elements that reflect the core of the brand, from homegrown concepts such as MEDA and Miss Tess, to world renowned brands like Bâoli. Our next major design project will be the release of Bâoli in the first quarter of 2024. With this project, we are introducing a sanctuary and rainforest to Dubai, where guests may roam from the beach to the pool or restaurant and feel as if they are in another country. It's something that hasn't been done on this size in Dubai before, so we're excited to welcome everyone into this one-of-a-kind experience once it's open.

How will Bâoli differ from other dining concepts in the region?

Bâoli will be offering contemporary Japanese cuisine that includes classic Japanese meals as well as those that are contemporary with a twist. We'd prefer to keep it a surprise for the time being while we work out the fine details, but it'll be something to look out for once it's done.

Where do you find your design inspiration?

I spend a lot of time travelling around the world, so I'm constantly in and out of expensive hotels and restaurants. It keeps me always on my toes, observing how different concepts market themselves, how they utilise design to promote themselves, what food is available on different menus, and so on.

What are the key challenges the hospitality industry is facing at the moment?

What I see happening in Dubai is that even with the fierce competition there is and all the many restaurants or bars that open every day, there is a huge repetition of the same concepts. We see many of them opening with the same menu offerings as their competitors, and each one becomes more overpriced than the last. I think it’s time we start building brands that offer a fresh perspective, and a unique concept that stands out from the rest.

How is technology playing a role in the industry?

In recent years, we have seen an influx of new operators entering the market, offering a range of products specifically tailored to the F&B industry utilising technology in new ways. These technologies have helped to innovate and provide more insight across the sector, from increased consumer outreach and database metrics to better control over inventory management, ordering, and cost control.

NOHM HOSPITALITY based in Dubai, brings together a team of F&B experts with extensive knowledge of the hospitality industry.

Global

Leading the way to dominance

Rami Selo, Chief Operating Officer (COO) of Sedar Global, discusses the design philosophy of his family business, how he was drawn to the business at a young age, the latest offerings, and how he believes strongly that technology can be used to attract potential clients—Gen Z, and his vision of putting the brand on the global map.

It's one of the few companies that is synonymous with the region's advancement, and for Rami Selo, COO of Sedar Global, it's been a fruitful and fulfilling journey, and seeing the evolution of design across residential and commercial spaces over the past several years is a fantastic achievement. When it comes to blinds, curtains, drapes, shades, wallpapers, and folding doors, Sedar Global is the only name that comes to mind. This is the influence it has made in the region with an extensive range of designer products and international collaborations.

Rami's early involvement in the design industry stems from the fact that he was raised in a

business family. His father would take his brothers and him to the factory and several ateliers throughout the world to see how the design and fashion worlds changed. This drew him to the design industry, which he knew he wanted to follow and establish a name for himself in. Rami shares: "I graduated with a degree in Interior Design from the American University in Sharjah. I have been with Sedar since 2006, and since then embarked on various ventures within the company, leading processes such as manufacturing, operations, and strategic planning in addition to leading design innovations. I’m passionate about understanding design variations and global trends within our field. For over 130 years, Sedar Global has been an iconic brand strongly established in the heart of the Middle East. I come from the founding family of Sedar, and since >>>

joining the company, I've seen how our brand transforms residential and commercial places all around the region.

So, one of the most significant questions we asked Rami was, "What is the recipe for this incredible growth and success?" He then quoted: “Our commitment to offering the finest window fashion in curtains and blinds as well wallpapers have set new standards in the industry. We've not just furnished spaces but have significantly contributed to the evolution of interior aesthetics in the Middle East because we have been around for a long time, we are seen as trend setters in the industry by assuring a business model that continues to focus on high quality lifestyle products, stock list of in demand global brands and providing what Sedar have become best known for – their “golden service” with delicate customer care, on-time delivery, follow up and ultimately a customer centric attitude.”

Sedar Global has reinvented itself several times over the past 130 years, matching and attempting to stay ahead of its clients' shifting objectives and tastes. Surprisingly, the company began as a hardware store for spare parts before evolving into its first window covering, the vertical blind. The goal was to provide a practical solution for sun protection as well as privacy. Rami recalls proudly: “Actually, many people in the region referred to the vertical brand as ‘Sedar’ in the same way people nowadays refer to “Kleenex” as a napkin. Later, the folding door and roller blind were introduced and shortly after with customers shifting to focussing more on aesthetic yet practical solutions fabric curtains and blinds were introduced into our product lines.”

Sedar has always been a brand that focuses on lifestyle rather than just products or services, which is why, in addition to developing their product and service lines, the entire family and team has focussed their efforts on ensuring that the shopping experience moves with the times. Rami believes in the power of technology, stating, "Most recently, we have rolled out a new look and feel throughout a number of stores across the GCC to give a more friendly and approachable visual identity for consumers." Our e-commerce has also been updated, with the addition of a virtual store and a high-end-to-end shopping realistic VR experience."

The design philosophy of Sedar resonates intimately with the rich tapestry of Middle Eastern tradition. They are inspired by local architecture, traditions, and landscapes, as well as favoured colour palettes, which they then translate into exquisite textiles and finishes. The best part is that their collections are a harmonic mix of old and new. Rami explains: "Echoing the region's preference for opulence but with contrasting lines that offer subtleness and modernity. We always keep up to date with the latest interior trends by attending key exhibitions and talks throughout the world. Our team of skilled designers attend these exhibitions to ensure our products remain on trend and continue to appeal to the progressing tastes of current customers whilst attracting future generation consumers."

Rami believes that GCC clients have high standards and distinct preferences. While meeting their

changing tastes is difficult, it is also rewarding. "With a clientele that has very high expectations, especially those paying for premium products, we are always expected to be at the top of our game, so their deep appreciation for quality and aesthetics drives us to elevate our offerings constantly," he asserts.

worldwide companies."

He then goes on to divulge some details about their historic collaboration. "Our soon-to-be-announced relationship with the MET Museum will be a monumental step for Sedar, incorporating world-renowned art and history into our product ranges. By incorporating aspects from the MET's historic collections into our designs, we've perfectly merged timeless artistry with current interior fashion. These collaborations not only boost our brand's global reputation, but they also strengthen Sedar's commitment to fusing culture, legacy, and luxury in every production, while also expanding our catalogue as a brand synonymous with international standards,” tells Rami. The company is pushing the frontiers of wall covering lines with designs available in wicker, straw, grass-cloths, and silks with practically any design. “We continue to appreciate bringing the outdoors in; biophilic-inspired design is difficult in desert locations, but our wallpaper collections with nature-inspired graphics provide a pleasant reprieve and diversion from cityscape. We are seeing consumers experimenting with dopamine hits of colour within interiors again in 2023, and have added pastel and candy hues to upholstery and fabric lines to tap into a trend that has largely seen a resurgence in interiors due to its coverage on social platforms like TikTok,” observes Rami.

The most recent addition to Sedar Global's product services for summer 2023 is upholstery, which was established due to industry need for sustainable interior choices. When it comes to renovating house décor, consumers can be more eco-conscious by transforming existing furniture.

Rami shares with enthusiasm: “Our new upholstery service pilots in the UAE, and is a natural extension of our commitment to offer comprehensive interior solutions. The new service has been created in part to

the industry demand for sustainable interior choices, reupholstery is the ultimate commitment to recycling and reusing pre-loved furniture. We will soon expand the service to other GCC countries. Customers can stop by our store, choose from a wide variety of upholstery fabrics and then leave the rest to us. We will transform their furniture ensuring a seamless design flow in their spaces."

Rami understands that the market in which he operates is competitive, but he has learned from the best throughout time to thrive and lead. He observes that the Middle East mixes rich culture with rapid growth, resulting in a wide range of interior design needs. This means that there will be a lot of competition as firms try to suit both old and new wants. Sedar Global caters to both. He explains further: “Our main customers are quality oriented individuals with an interest in maintaining levels of aesthetics. Top design companies work with us, and big venues like

hotels, schools, hospitals, and government buildings pick our services. We succeed by mixing traditional values with modern styles. Given this dynamic landscape, competition is fierce as brands strive to cater to both heritage and innovation. What sets us apart from the competition is that we provide comprehensive services ranging from manufacturing to delivery and installation after the sale.”

Fashion is continuously changing, and so are the audience's behaviours. He knows that their biggest task will be to anticipate, adapt to, and lead design trends in order to stay the first choice for their clients. He goes on:

“Gen Z are our next potential clients, and because of their nature, we need to emphasise the personalisation part of Sedar, as GenZ is more concerned with self-expression, personalisation, and art. With the rise of e-commerce, our biggest challenge is to adapt and streamline the journey for our customers, especially because the nature of our products and all the intricate detailing that goes into them, customers still prefer to order online so we are finding ways to bring our store experience to them. The challenge would be translation of the Sedar experience online through a virtual metaverse experience making it difficult due to the nature of our products.”

In future, Rami sees Sedar broadening its horizons even further, influencing global design narratives while remaining true to its Middle Eastern roots." As for me, I wish to continue to nurture innovation, ensuring that Sedar is synonymous with luxury and avant-garde design in the world of interiors.I want to expand the concept of a one-stop shop, with its unique concept of full-service offerings, high-quality products and brands, taking it beyond the Middle East, and advancing the Sedar experience on a global scale," Rami concludes on an upbeat note.

Nefa Architects was tasked with renovating and redesigning the new Yandex Company headquarters.

The five-story building inside a residential block was originally planned as a hotel before being given to the tech company with the requirement of merging the office into its surroundings as seamlessly as possible.

The new workplace can accommodate 470 team members with varying work schedules. The flexible and dynamic environment must be adaptable to a variety of applications, bringing together people who work from home and those who work full-time in an office.

The client developed an elaborate brief representative of the company values and provided for the specific ergonomic and sound isolation requirements. The brief laid the framework for the design of each and every workspace, taking into account the unique features and sizes of each room. To accommodate the growing number of visiting team members, the programme features an extra-large co-working space.

The facility was divided into halves for the convenience of team members with

varying work schedules, with two floors housing the co-working area and the other two reserved for individuals based permanently in Belgrade.

The main workplace areas are open spaces with an understated and minimalistic design aimed at shutting out every possible distraction while prioritising the day-to-day well-being and psychological comfort of the employees.

A teleport corridor runs through every floor, leading to common spaces with a very different vibe: the functional, basic workspace areas are juxtaposed with sci-fi meeting rooms, lounge areas, and coffee points, each featuring different combinations of bright colours, textures, materials, and laid-back design solutions.

These dissimilar areas with their diverse references are connected by the overarching idea of creating fantasy worlds consisting of open, friendly, and vibrant spaces with diverse programmes. Some of the highlights include a meadow lounge room complete with pixel clouds, a spaceship with shiny fittings and ring seats as well as a crazy jungle with striped cosy sacks of every shape and mirrored pillars.

The office provides a range of calm, secluded spaces for individual work, online meetings, and conferences, in addition to workstations, coffee spots, leisure areas, and meeting rooms. >>>

The flexible and dynamic environment must be adaptable to a variety of applications, bringing together people who work from home and those who work full-time in an office.

Software developers' work patterns are characterised by a number of repeating scenarios, including hours spent in front of a monitor, individual or group video conferencing, and offline personal encounters. The complex, flexible environment allows for the construction of "third spaces" within the office, where employees can move between jobs, relax, and

change locations numerous times per day to avoid repetitions.

The office is not only people-friendly: The overriding concept of openness and cordiality includes not only employees or guests, but also their pets. The flooring is stain-resistant, and one of the balconies has been converted into a dog-walking area

In conversation with Compass Project Consulting’s Regional Director Construction Management Richard Cushnan discusses the company's beliefs, exciting projects, sustainability, and how an effective team is the key to success.

DESIGN MIDDLE EAST | SEPTEMBER 2023 38 design-middleeast.com In conversation

How does Compass differentiate itself as an award-winning project development consultancy in terms of its approach and values?

This level of accessibility and dedication is the hallmark of our client-centric approach.

What truly sets us apart is our unwavering dedication to being there for our clients whenever they need us. Our team is at your service 24/7, offering unwavering support throughout the project's lifecycle, from the earliest preconstruction and design stages right through to the culmination of the construction phase and handover.

Our experienced staff specialises at providing complete support across a wide range of industries, including hospitality, industrial, healthcare, and the workplace, as well as anywhere clients want expert construction management control, particularly during the construction period.

Our primary area of expertise is commercial office fit-out, where we specialise in providing costeffective turnkey design and build solutions. We've executed various office space projects spanning thousands of square metres while meeting timelines and financial limits every time. Notably, where possible, we specialise in increasing the value and sustainability of designs. This allows us to precisely personalise solutions to our clients' ethos and budgets.

The key to our success lies in a collaborative team approach, involving ourselves, our client, and designers. Together, we work towards collective approval and establish a well-defined plan that not only meets but exceeds time and cost targets. ”

Our strategy involves value engineering materials, leveraging local supply chains, and streamlining designs to generate cost savings. These savings, in turn, provide the flexibility to allocate a greater budget to sustainable solutions within the project. This holistic approach ensures that sustainability is not just a goal but a reality, making a positive impact on both the environment and the bottom line.

What regions are you currently focusing on in the Middle East and beyond, and do you have plans to expand further?

While our primary focus remains on the UAE and Saudi Arabia, the breadth of our knowledge and our globally experienced staff enable us to provide solutions to clients throughout the MENA region and beyond. In fact, we've produced and supported projects in places as diverse as Oman, Bahrain, Seychelles, India, and even the Bahamas! Currently, we're actively engaged in devising solutions for a private villa and Hospitality project in the Seychelles. This experience positions us perfectly in assisting new clients in executing projects in these exotic and challenging locations. Our commitment to excellence knows no bounds, and we're ready to bring our expertise to any corner of the world where ambitious projects await.

Could you elaborate on the core values or principles that guide your consultancy's approach to project development and client relationships?

Teamwork may be an old cliche, but it is the foundation of our success. Compass recognises that our strength comes from the steadfast support of our clients and supply chain partners. We work as a single team, representing our fundamental values of promoting inclusivity, ethical excellence, problem solving, and winning together.

Could you elaborate on how your team's collective attention for precision contributes to defining goals, establishing realistic schedules, and managing budgets throughout the project development process?

At Compass, we work backward from the project's end date, carefully planning each

phase – engineering, design, authority approvals, procurement, and lastly, the construction timeline. We can mitigate construction challenges, however items not within normal parameters for mitigation have to be set in stone and so we maneuver around them.

Our primary drivers are engineering and procurement schedules. Timely placement of long lead items is of paramount importance, and we meticulously track these milestones using comprehensive logs. A delivery register is kept in sequence with the baseline program and as long as we have the financial support of our valued clients we won’t fail on the deliverables or timeline.

We focus tracking project progress through the procurement lens from the start. Material supply is coordinated with the programme, with an emphasis on "just in time delivery" to avoid site clutter with unneeded materials.

This streamlined strategy allows us to align the project's cash flow with the agreed budgets of our clients. The result is a straightforward and pre-approved payment plan that seamlessly aligns with their capital expenditure (CAPEX) requirements. Because of our dedication to transparency and precision, our clients may securely negotiate the financial aspects of their projects.

How do you approach challenges and complexities that arise during the project lifecycle, and how does your team ensure successful project completion?

At the heart of our approach, we circle back to our Compass Core Values of "Solutions Minded" and "Winning Together." Our entire team engages, supporting one another to achieve shared success. No one faces challenges alone; we're all in this together. While we might have the occasional ‘’exciting’’ team meeting, our unity is the real star. We function as a cohesive unit, all driving toward the same goal: timely project delivery, within budget, with a spotless HSE record, and the assurance that our clients receive nothing less than a bestin-class Turnkey service from inception to completion.

Tell us about your journey. How did it all start?

It all started with a deep passion for creating unforgettable experiences for guests. From a young age, I knew I wanted to be part of an industry that could connect people and positively impact their lives. I began my career in hospitality by taking on various roles that allowed me to gain valuable insights into the industry's inner workings. Starting from the ground level, I learned the importance of paying attention to every detail, providing exceptional service, and anticipating the needs of our guests. As my career grew, I had the amazing opportunity to work with renowned hotel companies and engage with talented experts that had the same passion for hospitality. These experiences provided me with a deep grasp of the industry as well as the knowledge and abilities to navigate its ever-changing terrain. This global exposure

has influenced my approach to hospitality, emphasising the importance of cultural sensitivity, adaptability, and acceptance of variety.

This road has undoubtedly been filled with difficulties, but the rewards have been enormous.

My real estate experience has provided me with a solid foundation in property development, investing, and operations. This means I can tackle hospitality initiatives strategically. "INNOVATION IS CRITICAL TO STAYING AHEAD IN THE COMPETITIVE HOSPITALITY INDUSTRY. WE EMBRACE TECHNOLOGY AND INVEST IN CUTTING-EDGE SOLUTIONS THAT ENHANCE GUEST EXPERIENCES."

What are some of the trends you see impacting the hospitality industry?

Today, consumers are increasingly emphasizing the importance of sustainability, and it’s no longer a "nice to have" credential. Guests are explicitly looking at a brand's green credentials whether that be energy-saving measures, waste reduction initiatives, using renewable resources, and engagement in community and environmental conservation efforts.

Technology is another game-changer in the hospitality industry. Nowadays, guests want seamless digital experiences and personalised services throughout their stay. This means offering features like mobile check-in/check-out, keyless entry systems, automated room controls, voice-activated devices, and customized recommendations based on data analysis.

Blended travel has become quite popular. It's all about combining business and leisure elements during a trip, known as "bleisure" travel. Travellers now seek accommodations and services that cater to both work and relaxation. That includes flexible workspaces, high-speed internet access, meeting facilities, and recreational amenities. “Zeph marks the introduction of a chair tailored to our new ways of working. It’s an elegant, customisable, and colourful addition to Herman Miller’s marketleading portfolio of high-performance seating.” says Ben Watson, President, Herman Miller.

Zeph aspires to bridge the gap between Herman Miller's classic mid-century designs with today's workplace chair ergonomics. As a result, the design is approachable without sacrificing comfort or beauty.

One of the most notable features of this chair is its slim profile and easy-to-adjust design, which makes Zeph a colourful companion capable of accommodating a variety of demands while smoothly blending into the landscape of any area. Its adaptability easily translates into regular workplace settings, giving architects, designers, and consumers a new and versatile option. It's a really nicelooking chair!

Zeph's sleek, uninterrupted silhouette

is intentional. However, customers shouldn’t be deceived by its simple, organic appearance. Hidden beneath the seat is technology designed to provide a smooth ergonomic experience based on human-centered movements. This enables Zeph to provide a natural, flowing movement that is suitable for all body types.

“Our ambition was to create an animated shell chair. What first sounds like a contradiction became possible by utilising the inherent materiality of plastic: being flexible and capable of providing a spring- loaded mechanism. Zeph’s joyful aesthetics provides surprising ergonomic benefits too.” said Burkhard Schmitz, who helms Studio 7.5 with Carola Zwick and her brother Roland Zwick.

mono shell provides a natural recline by utilising the sitter's pivot points to provide the proper counterweight and shift posture fluidly.

The expansive colour palette also took inspiration from the past. “One of the things we wanted to pick up from Herman Miller’s mid-century era was the optimistic and delightful idea of the future. We wanted Zeph to be playful and happy.” adds Zwick. The palette or “the crayon box,” as Studio 7.5 says, is intended to be inviting for a variety of tastes, and to let users have some fun.

The uniform hue design, achieved by pioneering dipped-in colour options, was first introduced to Herman Miller by Studio 7.5 through the launch of the Cosm chair. Through this process, colour is applied purposefully to the entire chair, all the way down to the casters, accentuating the sculptural beauty of its form.

In addition to the bright, dipped-in colour options available for the chair, every Zeph shell can be further customised through the addition of upholstery, either as a seat pad or a unibody (which covers the entire front of the shell).

The unique construction of this upholstery is a first for Herman Miller. The upholstery can easily be mounted and replaced without tools for easy cleaning or changing colours, and it employs breakthrough 3-D knit technology, with each seat option comprised of 50% recycled polyester yarn – delivering sophisticated colour options and cushioned comfort. Another significant benefit of ergonomic office furniture is its capacity to boost employee wellness. When you invest in your employees' well-being and fitness with ergonomic office furniture, you send a message to them that you care about them. >>>

Tell us more about the collaboration with Nikon lens wear?

Nikon and their amazing products need no introduction. They are probably best known for their incredible camera lenses which make them the benchmark in the photography industry, but few know that everything started for Nikon with ophthalmic lenses.

The values that VISION INDUSTRY and NIKON share just made this a natural partnership and today, in VISION INDUSTRY, we are bringing the incredible NIKON ophthalmic technology to the UAE market.

Are there any more future collaborations in the pipeline?

Yes, we have a lot on pipeline, and we will reveal each of them, one by one, in the months to come.

Where do you see the eyewear industry in the next 5 years?

The industry is growing in the Middle east and worldwide, and it will keep growing. From one side eyewear is more and more a fashion accessory and on the other hand more and more people have access to vision healthcare.
