JOINT VENTURE BULL WARRANTY Towaw Cattle Co. and Rainbow Red Angus guarantee to sell you a bull that is structurally sound, and a bull that has passed a semen test conducted by a licensed veterinarian. IN SHORT, WE GUARANTEE TO PROVIDE YOU WITH A SOUND BREEDING BULL. IF HE HASN’T PASSED A SEMEN TEST, HE DOESN’T SELL.

Should any animal fail to be a satisfactory breeder, he will be replaced with a bull of equal value. Should this not be possible, an adjustment will be made to reflect the bull in question, as a credit towards the purchase of another bull. In no case shall credit exceed the purchase price of the bull.

SALE TERMS

RETAINED INTERESTS We are selling some bulls in this sale as 2/3 interest and full possession. The 2/3 interest part means that the seller wishes to retain a 1/3 interest in the bull entitling him to use the bull through artificial insemination and sharing in any future drawing expenses and revenue of semen on a 1/3 basis. Full possession entitles the new owner to all physical rights to the bull. As in any other information, announcements from the block take precedence over any written information in the catalog.

DELIVERY & BOARD A rebate of $50.00 per bull will be offered to buyers who bring their trailer and truck their bulls home themselves within one week of sale day. We Will deliver bulls free of charge within Western Canada or closest U.S. port of entry. Bulls will be kept at Towaw, free of charge, until April 20, 2018. If bulls are left longer a fee of $2.00 per day will be charged. Bulls are left entirely at the risk of the purchaser and we recommend that insurance be taken.

TERMS AND CONDITIONS TERMS: Unless otherwise previously arranged with Towaw Cattle Co., terms of this sale are cash or cheque, payable in Canadian funds. As soon as an animal is sold it becomes the responsibility of the purchaser.

ANNOUNCEMENTS: Errors in the catalogue will be corrected by announcements from the stand at sale time, and such corrections will take precedence over the printed matter in the catalogue.

DISPUTES: In case of disputes, bidding will be reopened between the parties involved. If no further bid is made, the buyer will be the person from whom the auctioneer accepted the last bid. The auctioneer’s decision in such matters will be final.

CERTIFICATE OF REGISTRY: A certificate of registry duly transferred will be furnished to the buyer by the seller for each REGISTERED animal after settlement has been made.

DELIVERY: We will arrange delivery of the bulls to central points in western Canada and closest U.S. Port of Entry, free of charge.

ABBREVIATIONS CE: Calving Ease, U =Unassisted BW: Actual weight at birth WW: Weaning weight in lbs. Adjusted to 205 days.

WI: Weaning Index - Weaning weight as a % of average WW of contemporaries.

YW: Yearling weight in lbs. - calculated as adjusted 205 day weight + (ADG on feed x 165 days) YI: Yearling Index - Weight gain from Weaning to Yearling as a % of average gain of contemperaries.

AOD: The actual age of the dam when she calved the bull offered for sale.

NOTE: All Indexes are calculated within herds, as management may differ somewhat.

WEIGHTS AND SCROTAL MEASUREMENTS WILL BE AVAILABLE SALE DAY. EPDS: EXPECTED PROGENY DIFFERENCES EPD’s are a powerful tool that is available for making genetic progress.

EPD’s incorporate the performance of the individual, along with the performance of all its relatives.

CE: Calving ease - the higher number predicts more calving ease.

BW: Birth. A lower EPD predicts lower birthweights.

WW: Weaning. High weaning EPD’s predict higher weaning weights.

YW: Yearling. Higher yearling EPD’s indicate greater expected yearling weights.

MILK: Milk EPD should be used to predict the milking ability of the daughters of the bulls in question. Higher milk EPD’s project more milk.

Percentile Tables have been added this year to take some of the confusion out of the EPDs. A trait listed as 5% would mean that bull is in the top 5% of the breed for that trait. 49% would be slightly higher than breed average, while 51% would be slightly lower than breed average.

TO OUR 39TH ANNUAL BULL SALE We have rebranded the Sale this year to be “The Joint Venture” to recognize the partnership and shared values in the breeding programs of both Towaw and Rainbow. Working with the Bablitz family for all these years has been a pleasure and something we hope will last for many more years. Our shared vision of raising cattle that will improve our Customers profits has made our programs successful for a combined 60 plus years.

“Run your cowherd like a business, and your cowherd will take care of your business.”

At Towaw, we raise Maternal Angus Cattle; cattle that will calve easily, have longevity, raise good calves and do it all as economically as possible. Longevity without culling criteria and pressure is nothing. To last in this herd a cow must calve every year, stay sound on her feet, legs and udder, stay in good body condition without supplemental grain, and be a pleasure to work with.

Studies show that fertility is 3 times as important, economically, as growth, and the biggest cost to any operation is winter feeding. So why not buy your bulls from an operation that runs their cows in the real world, without any excuses and no free rides? Without culling pressure in a real world scenario, there is no way to know which cattle can rise to the

top. After culling our bull pen we end up selling less than 50% of our bulls. The rest are steers. Ask yourself, if a bull supplier is selling 80% of their male born calves as bulls, is there any pressure being applied?

“You can’t create a diamond without pressure”.

The bulls are weaned as calves and fed a growing ration until about mid May. They then spend the next six months on pasture, forage developed in a responsible manner. We bring the bulls home and they are fed a high ruffage ration in our 3 acre pens. We feel this will produce a bull that is fit, sound and ready to go to work. All bulls in the sale will have passed a semen evaluation, but we still ask that you observe your bulls and make sure they are getting the job done. In the unlikely event that a problem occurs please contact us so we can work to rectify the situation.

We will be starting the Sale at 2:00 pm MST. We feel this gives folks time to get some chores done at home and still get to the sale and preview the bulls. If you can not make it to the sale in person we have a sight unseen purchase plan as well as a number of Sales Staff that would be available to bid on your behalf. We are also working with DLMS who will have the sale broadcast on the Internet.

Julian has done a great job at Towaw since we purchased a ½ Interest in him in the Spring of 2015. After touring Ter-Ron’s group of two year old heifers, I couldn’t stop marvelling about how good the daughters of Julian were in their herd. After checking out his calving ease numbers and quality sons in the bull pen, we knew we needed to implement him into our program. He is super sound, big testicled and has a good a foot as you are likely to see on a Red Angus Bull. His daughters are awesome and he calves very easily. We lost him to injury in the summer of 2015, so these will be his last natural born sons. We have a bank of semen on him so will have AI sons for years to come.
