SALE INFORMATION
TOWAW BULL WARRANTY Towaw Cattle Co. and Rainbow Red Angus guarantee to sell you a bull that is structurally sound, and a bull that has passed a semen test conducted by a licensed veterinarian.
IN SHORT, WE GUARANTEE TO PROVIDE YOU WITH A SOUND BREEDING BULL. IF HE HASN’T PASSED A SEMEN TEST, HE DOESN’T SELL. Should any animal fail to be a satisfactory breeder, he will be replaced with a bull of equal value. Should this not be possible, an adjustment will be made to reflect the bull in question, as a credit towards the purchase of another bull. In no case shall credit exceed the purchase price of the bull. We however, will not provide replacement or adjustment for physical injury or mismanagement. Bearing this in mind, we stress the importance of insurance on your bulls. Should you have a problem with your bull, please call us right away, and we will work with you to make sure you are satisfied with your bull.

Delivery & Board
We are selling some bulls in this sale as 2/3 interest and full possession. The 2/3 interest part means that the seller wishes to retain a 1/3 interest in the bull entitling him to use the bull through artificial insemination and sharing in any future drawing expenses and revenue of semen on a 1/3 basis. Full possession entitles the new owner to all physical rights to the bull. As in any other information, announcements from the block take precedence over any written information in the catalog.
A rebate of $50.00 per bull will be offered to buyers who bring their trailer and truck their bulls home themselves within one week of sale day. We Will deliver bulls free of charge within Western Canada or closest U.S. port of entry. Bulls will be kept at Towaw, free of charge, until April 20, 2013. If bulls are left longer a fee of $2.00 per day will be charged. Bulls are left entirely at the risk of the purchaser and we recommend that insurance be taken.

WI: Weaning Index - Weaning weight as a % of average WW of contemporaries. YW: Yearling weight in lbs. - calculated as adjusted 205 day weight + (ADG on feed x 165 days) YI: Yearling Index - Weight gain from Weaning to Yearling as a % of average gain of contemperaries. AOD: The actual age of the dam when she calved the bull offered for sale. LMY: Lean Meat Yield NOTE: All Indexes are calculated within herds, as management may differ somewhat.

Expected Progeny Differences
EPD’s are a powerful tool that is available for making genetic progress. EPD’s incorporate the performance of the individual, along with the performance of all its relatives. CE: Calving ease - the higher number predicts more calving ease. BW: Birth. A lower EPD predicts lower birthweights. WW: Weaning. High weaning EPD’s predict higher weaning weights. YW: Yearling. Higher yearling EPD’s indicate greater expected yearling weights. MILK: Milk EPD should be used to predict the milking ability of the daughters of the bulls in question. Higher milk EPD’s project more milk.

Auction Format
This year we will be working with Mark Shologan and broadcasting our sale over the Internet on DLMS.ca. The bulls will be videotaped prior to the sale and on sale day we will have large TV screens set up with the bulls video running while they sell. Two weeks before the sale, videos of every bull will be available at our website www.towawcattle.com or at www.dlms.ca. With this change we will be going with a traditional auction system with Robert Lind auctioneering for us. He will be ably assisted by Ryan Dorran and Bryon Wolters, who will be acting as ringmen at the sale. Please don’t hesitate to contact Robert, Ryan, Travis, as well as our buyer reps to represent you at the sale. Kingman is one of the main herdsires here at Towaw and his son’s were our top sellers in last year’s sale. We purchased him in partnership with Ter-Ron farms as the high seller in Lazy MC’s 2010 bull sale for $21,000. He has an outcross pedigree for our herd and has passed on his thickness, ease of fleshing and calving ease to his sons. He has naturally bred upwards of 250 females in three years of breeding and always stays in great shape. His daughters are easy fleshing with picture perfect udders. We used two of his son’s in our herd last year.

Three winters ago we went down to Benchmark Angus to look at sons of Basin EXT 45T5, impressed with his performance and set of EPDs. We were so impressed with sons and daughters of this bull, a son Better Beef, won Denver in 2012, that we purchased a half interest in him to breed cows at Towaw. He is in the top 1% for most all of the growth and carcass traits and in the top 10% for calving ease. We have a large group of his sons in the sale this year, look for big performance and expect good carcass traits in his progeny. We purchased Excel from Glen and Darlene Glesman in the summer of 2011 to add a little more performance to some of our cows. He is a long bodied, powerful bull that is sound as the day is long and he certainly shows that in his calves. He goes way back to an Expansion son we sold Glen and also has Bieber Design way up in his pedigree. His dam had 16 natural calves in her lifetime including an Indeed daughter they have been flushing in partnership with Miller Wilson Angus. Excel is co-owned with Rainbow Red Angus.

Lancer has done a great job at Towaw over the years. He was a very deep bodied, sound footed and correct bull. Many of his sons will qualify as heifer bulls and now we are seeing his maternal strength as he has daughters with sons in the sale. Longevity is bred in as he bred cows until he was eight years old.

Tenacity has turned into a real reliable herdbull for us since being our high selling bull in the 2012 bull sale to the Gutteridge’s from Spruce Grove. He is incredibly attractive and sound and passes that extra eye appeal on to his sons. Here he is, the first Recoil son we have offered for sale! Recoil has been admired by cattlemen all over the world for his unique muscle shape and dimension. He did extremely well in the show all last year. Though he is not your typical show bull, the quality he possesses is undeniable. He has passed these unique traits very consistently on to his calves, however we believe Defiance is as close to a replica of his sire as one could make. The maternal side of Defiance’s pedigree is just as awesome. His dam is a member of the famed Lois cow family that has done so much for the breed. She is a deep bodied, good footed, great uddered female that has put several productive daughters in the herd and every one of her bull calves have sold through this sale. Defiance himself has been phenomenal since the day he hit the ground. This bull is extremely heavy muscled and carries a hip rarely seen on red angus cattle. He has a moderate birth weight with massive weaning and yearling weights, is big bellied, clean fronted, smooth shouldered, has big testicles and is super sound, just like daddy! In his only trip to town, Defiance was crowned National Intermediate bull calf champion at Farmfair and was very popular with everyone who saw him. 2014 Donation Heifer
This year Towaw will be donating a commercial, March born Red Angus heifer with the proceeds going to a few different organizations that are important to our sale group. We will sell tickets in the Dutch Auction Format, $10 per ticket, just prior to selling the bulls. For example, if you bid $100 you will get 10 chances to win the heifer in the draw immediately following the sale. Tickets will be available right up until the time of the draw as well. This year we will be splitting the raised funds between 3 different groups. First, we will be sponsoring and serving a meal at the Ronald Mcdonald House in Edmonton. This house gives families a place to stay and be taken care of while their children are getting care at the Stollery Hospital. We feel honored to be able to help out others after all the help we received as a family in a very similar situation. Secondly we would like to give a donation to the Lac. Ste. Anne 4-H Council. Both of our families currently have a second generation involved with the 4-H program in this area. We feel it is a very worthwhile program for the youth of our area. We also would like to support the Sabres Cheer Spirit Cheerleading Club. This group serves an area from Onoway to Whitecourt, and is a fledgling group that provides a different athletic option for kids in our area.
Last year the heifer, won by the Harapchuk family, raised nearly $4000 that was donated to the Stollery Children’s Hospital. Thomas was very proud to represent you, our friends and customers, as he presented the cheque to Stollery representatives at the Team 1260 Radiothon.
