CSC Hosts Annual Athletic Hall of Fame Banquet & Induction Ceremony From the dusty football fields of pre-war Oklahoma to their modern successes, Connors State College has long been a launching pad for extraordinary achievers.On October 19th, the college celebrated that legacy by inducting six distinguished alumni into its Athletic Hall of Fame, each embodying the unique qualities that define graduates of Connors State.

The 2024 class reads like a who's who of athletic excellence and professional achievement. Among them is Vicki Price Hughes, whose journey from Stilwell High School basketball star to leading Jenks to six State Golf Championships showcases the versatility of athletic talent. Hughes, part of CSC's 1985 National Championship basketball team, has gone on to earn national recognition as a coach, recently being named the 2023 National Federation of High School Coaches' Coach

Dewey C. Talley's story particularly resonates with the spirit of service that defines many Connors alumni. From earning All-Conference football honors in 1957 to achieving the rank of Master Sergeant in the U.S. Army Reserves, Talley's 30-year career in education exemplifies the diverse paths Connors graduates pursue.

The class also includes Hunter Harris, whose defensive prowess on the baseball diamond earned him national acclaim.

After leading the Cowboys to the Junior College World Series, Harris continued his success at the University of Texas before finding his calling in philanthropy with the American Red Cross.

basketball and track but his remarkable 37-year career in education, culminating as Superintendent of Schools in Beggs.

Similarly, Ashley Grider Lacefield's softball excellence at Connors became a family tradition, following her sister Amber's path to the Hall of Fame.

Perhaps no inductee better represents the entrepreneurial spirit fostered at Connors than Ken Ogdon. Starting as a student working his way through college in the journalism department, Ogdon built OFG Financial Services into a company managing over $3 billion in assets across 21 states.

The celebration was emceed by Oklahoma Sports Hall of Fame inductee Chris Lincoln. Also in attendance were hall of fame basketball coaches Ken Hayes and Ted Owens.

From its humble beginnings to its presentday success stories, Connors State continues to shape leaders in sports, education, business, and community service. This year's Hall of Fame class stands as testament to that enduring legacy.

CAMPUS LIFE

Connors State College Hosts Annual Patriot Night Basketball Game Connors State College proudly paid tribute to veterans during Patriot Night at the men's basketball game held on November 7th. The event was an expression of gratitude and respect for the men and women who have served in the military.

The evening commenced with a touching recognition ceremony for the veterans in attendance, acknowledging their sacrifice and service to the nation. The highlight of the event was a speech delivered by Blane Newfield, a CSC staff member and proud veteran.

As a token of appreciation, all veterans in attendance were presented with a gift, courtesy of Connors State. The gesture aimed to convey the college's deep appreciation for the dedication and

commitment of those who have served in the armed forces.

"We are immensely grateful for the service and sacrifices of our veterans.

Veterans Night at the basketball game was a small but heartfelt way to honor and recognize their contributions," expressed Blane Newfield.

Connors State College remains committed to recognizing and supporting veterans, and events like Veterans Night underscore the college's dedication to fostering a community that values and appreciates the contributions of those who have served.

Community Gathers for Annual Thanksgiving Feast at Connors State The aroma of traditional Thanksgiving dishes filled the air at Connors State College this Tuesday as students, staff, and community members came together for the college's annual community Thanksgiving celebration. On November 19th, a collaborative effort between CSC Campus Life and the President's Leadership Class, once again proved that nothing brings people together quite like a shared meal.

As guests filtered in throughout the evening, the warmth of the gathering matched the warmth of the welcome they received. Tables filled with conversation and laughter as people from all walks of life – students far from home, local families, and college staff – shared in the festive atmosphere. All in all, well over 500 people attended this year’s dinner.

The event is more than just a meal – it has evolved into an annual tradition that highlights Connors State's role as a community cornerstone. In an age where people often find themselves too busy to connect, this annual gathering offers a moment to pause, share stories, and express gratitude together.

The President's Leadership Class students could be seen bustling about, serving meals and helping people feel right at home. Their enthusiasm for service was evident as they helped coordinate the free

"We believe in giving back to the community and the importance of coming together and breaking bread. The annual Thanksgiving dinner is one way of expressing thanks and building connections within the broader community," shared Jake Lawson, Dean of Students at Connors State College.

Connors State Welcomes Students to Campus for Junior/Senior Day Connors State College recently hosted one of its key recruitment events of the year, drawing more than 200 high school juniors and seniors from local schools to explore campus life and educational opportunities. The annual Junior/Senior Day offered students a comprehensive look at what Connors has to offer.

The morning kicked off with a series of presentations featuring CSC faculty and staff, who outlined various academic programs and campus resources available to students. Several alumni also took the stage, sharing personal stories about their time at Connors State and how their education helped shape their careers.

These firsthand accounts gave visitors practical insights into the value of a CSC education.

Campus tours formed the heart of the day's activities, with students exploring academic buildings, checking out classroom spaces, and getting familiar with campus amenities. Tour groups wound their way through campus, giving participants a chance to envision themselves as Cowboys and Cowgirls. The event concluded with lunch, where prospective students had the opportunity to chat informally with current students, faculty, and staff.

CSC Agriculture Students Earn Highest FFA Honor at 97th National Convention Fifteen Connors State College students joined an elite group of agricultural leaders this year, earning their American FFA Degrees at the 97th National FFA Convention & Expo. The degree, awarded to less than one percent of FFA members nationwide, represents the pinnacle of achievement in agricultural education.

Riley Mertz (Barberton, OH), Arden Pittman (Gruver, TX), Kristian Pouncil (Checotah, OK), Gage Slagell (Hydro-Eakly, OK), Shanelle Shepherd-Scott (Checotah, OK), Addison Turner (Morgan, UT), and Katie Zwahlen (Oswego, KS).

These students come from across the nation, highlighting Connors State's draw as an agricultural education destination.

From California to Ohio, Arizona to Oklahoma, this year's recipients demonstrate the college's broad reach in developing agricultural leaders.

The accomplishment requires students to have earned their State FFA Degree, completed their secondary education, and invested significant time and resources in their agricultural projects. Each recipient has documented at least $10,000 earned through their supervised agricultural experiences and completed 50 hours of community service.

SPOTLIGHTS

Student Spotlight: Taylor Moore (Owasso) When Taylor Moore isn't patrolling the pitch for the Cowgirls soccer team, you might find her behind a lens, documenting campus life as one of CSC's student photographers. The Owasso native has found her home away from home at Connors, diving into multiple areas of student life since coming to Warner.

As a member of the soccer team, Moore brings the same focus and precision to her sport that she does to her photography work with the college's communications and marketing department. Her dual roles give her a unique perspective on campus life – sometimes she's in the action, and sometimes she's capturing it.

Her enthusiasm is evident when she talks about the relationships she's built and the memories she's created during her time at Connors State.

Looking ahead, Moore has her sights set on continuing her academic and athletic pursuits. She plans to transfer to a fouryear institution after completing her time at CSC, where she hopes to further develop her skills both on the soccer field and in the classroom.

Through her photography work and athletic achievements, Moore represents the kind of well-rounded student experience that Connors State College strives to foster.

Alumni Spotlight: Ashley Grider Lacefield (‘01) Ashley Grider Lacefield attended Connors State College from 1999 to 2001. A standout athlete, Lacefield's softball prowess earned her both accolades on the field but also her associate's degree from in 2001. Her time at Connors was characterized by a perfect blend of athletic excellence and academic achievement, setting a high standard for student-athletes. Lacefield's contributions to the softball program helped elevate the team's performance and reputation, making her a key figure in Cowgirls’ softball history.

Lacefield's athletic journey didn't conclude at Connors State. She went on to complete her softball career at the University of Science & Arts of Oklahoma (USAO) in Chickasha, where she earned her bachelor's degree in history.

Notably, Lacefield's connection to Connors State College runs deep within her family, creating a legacy of athletic excellence.

Her sister, Amber (Grider) Purtell, also attended CSC as a softball student-athlete from 1996 to 1998, and was inducted into its Athletics Hall of Fame in 2016. Today, Ashley is a proud mother of two daughters and has been happily married for 20 years. Her family currently resides in Texas. Lacefield's induction into the Connors State College athletic Hall of Fame not only honors her individual achievements but also celebrates the lasting legacy of athletic excellence and family tradition associated with the institution.

ATHLETICS

Cowboys Basketball Dominates Early Season Schedule The Connors State men's basketball team has roared to a 7-1 start in the 2024-25 season, establishing themselves with a high-powered offense and stifling defense. The Cowboys are averaging an impressive 89.4 points per game while holding opponents to just 59.6, demonstrating dominance on both ends of the court.

A balanced scoring attack has been key to the Cowboys' success, with three players averaging double figures. Freshman Kevin Stubblefield Jr. leads the way with 12.9 points per game, followed closely by Aric Walls (12.6 ppg) and Edwin Daniel (12.4 ppg). The team's efficiency has also been remarkable, shooting 51.2% from the field and 35.5% from three-point range.

The team's only blemish came in a close 83-76 road loss to Dallas College Cedar Valley on November 11, but they've responded emphatically with three consecutive victories. These wins haven't been close contests either – the Cowboys handled Fort Scott with a 98-54 victory, controlled North Arkansas 73-47, and took down Allen County 74-56.

Perhaps the team’s biggest strength has been the Cowboys' willingness to work on the glass and their unselfish style of play.

They're out rebounding opponents by a staggering 30.3 boards per game and averaging 21.3 assists, showcasing their commitment to team basketball.

ATHLETICS Defensively, they've locked down opponents, holding them to just 36.2% shooting from the field.

With conference play yet to begin, the Cowboys look to maintain their momentum as they return home to face

Oklahoma Wesleyan and South Arkansas Community College. If their early season performance is any indication, the Cowboys could be poised for a special season.

Fred Williams Arena Plays Host in November The Fred Williams Indoor Arena hosted two events in November, bringing competitors and spectators to the Warner campus.

The Alumni & Friends Timed Event Rodeo on November 15th welcomed current students, alumni, and community members to compete. The event featured traditional timed rodeo competitions open to all skill levels.

The following weekend, November 22-23, the program held its Alumni & Friends Versatility Ranch Horse Show.

The two-day event showcased ranch horsemanship skills with participants from across the region.

Both events brought visitors to campus while offering current students a chance to connect with program alumni and the broader community. The gatherings also contributed to local business activity as participants and spectators visited the Warner area.

ATHLETICS

Cowgirls Building Strong Foundation with Young Talent The Connors State women's basketball program is embracing a new chapter in 2024-25, featuring a young roster under first-year leadership. Following last year's impressive national tournament appearance and regional championship, the Cowgirls are focused on developing for the future under new head coach Jaylen Thompson.

Sophomore leaders Jurnee Williams and Addyson Gream have embraced their veteran roles for the squad. Gream has been a model of efficiency in the post, shooting an impressive 56.3% from the field and averaging 12.4 points per game.

Williams brings valuable experience from last year's successful campaign, contributing on both ends of the floor.

The freshman class has shown exciting potential. Kiaya Davis has made an immediate impact, averaging 16.8 points

per game on a strong 48.2% shooting.

Alexis Fowler has demonstrated her shooting touch with 13 three-pointers through six games, while Allie Anderson and Dashia Johnson have shown flashes of brilliance in the backcourt.

The Cowgirls have displayed their ability in several impressive performances, particularly in convincing victories over Arkansas State Mid-South (79-51) and Mid America Christian (98-58). The team's ability to put up points, averaging 72.2 per game, highlights their potential on the offensive side of the ball.

The Cowgirls continue their season with upcoming matchups against Crowder College and Oklahoma Wesleyan JV before returning home to face Grayson College on November 30, where they'll look to showcase their continued development.
