Welcome, as we look back on a Summer Term of achievement, celebration and community.

As another successful year draws to a close, we look back on a Summer Term that truly reflects the ambition, resilience and spirit of Brentford School for Girls.

This term has been filled with experiences that have challenged and inspired our students. From sports leadership opportunities and the Duke of Edinburgh's Award to climbing adventures, humanities trips and drama visits, our girls have demonstrated confidence, curiosity and teamwork beyond the classroom. We have also celebrated important academic milestones, with our mock results days helping students prepare for the next stage of their journey, while our continued focus on women in STEM has empowered even more girls to see themselves as the innovators and leaders of the future.

Our sporting successes have once again been exceptional, with countless wins across a range of competitions and the incredible honour of being crowned Borough Champions. Alongside these sporting accomplishments, we have continued to strengthen the sense of community that makes Brentford School for Girls so special, creating opportunities for students to support one another, celebrate diversity and contribute positively to school life.

As always, the term ended in true Brentford style with unforgettable celebrations.

The Arts Festival showcased the incredible creativity and talent of our students, Sports Day brought out determination, teamwork and house spirit, and Activities Day provided lasting memories through a wide range of exciting trips and experiences.

This term has also been one of reflection and farewell. We have celebrated the Year 11 and Year 13 students as they embark on exciting new chapters, and we also say goodbye to several much-loved members of staff who have made a lasting contribution to our school community. We thank them for their dedication and wish them every success and happiness for the future.

MESSAGE FROM OUR CHAIR OF GOVERNORS Dear Parents and Carers.

It’s been a busy summer term, as ever, and the girls have impressed the governors with their energy, passion and commitment throughout. In particular, we'd like to wish all of our students who’ve taken public exams this term the very best of luck. We'll be thinking of you on results day and hoping you achieve the results you’ve worked so hard for.

A personal highlight for me this term was Year 10’s Mock Interview morning. Every year, I am awestruck by the range of careers our girls are thoughtfully and determinedly exploring: fashion and textiles design, social/youth work, politics, medicine, law, teaching, journalism, psychology, to name but a few... It is always a joy to interview them and to witness the scale of their ambition. I have every confidence they will achieve their goals, and hope they’ll return one day to inspire the next generation of Brentford girls.

It’s been a bumper term for sports, the arts, humanities, stem and community events. Both this magazine and the school Instagram account (@brentfordschool) are filled with sporting triumphs, artistic talents, and brilliant photos from trips and events. The Year 9 History trip to the Old Operating Theatre looked amazing, and I was fascinated to hear about the A-level Politics students’ Cabinet crisis simulation. Talking of cabinets - terrible pun intended - I hear we may also need a new trophy cabinet, given the success of our sports teams this term!

I’d like to finish by saying an enormous thank you to everyone who worked so hard to make the annual Arts Festival such a success, especially in those incredibly high temperatures. It truly is a highlight of the school calendar; what a fabulous way to bring the year to a close!

MESSAGE FROM OUR EXECUTIVE HEADTEACHER Dear Parent/Carers, What a fantastic term it has been! There has been an enormous amount of activities going on across the term, all helping to support our girls to become that ‘women of the future’ in our school vision. It has been wonderful to see so much energy, commitment and pride across the school, with so many opportunities for the girls to shine.

We have had amazing sporting success, with girls in all year groups taking part, and all teams doing exceptionally well this term in competitions. We have been borough champions in so many of the games we have taken part in, and that is a true reflection of their handwork, resilience and competitive spirit. A huge well done to the girls, and thank you to the PE department for their continued commitment to making girls physical activity so high profile at our school.

There have also been so many leadership opportunities for the girls too, including the duke of Edinburgh expedition and the new navy training. I would like to give a special shout out to our amazing student leaders across the school, including our head girl and senior prefects, our sports ambassadors, house captains and prefects. They have been absolutely brilliant this term, helping out at events, supporting our partnership primary school - Worple, at sports days, and helping out in the classroom. I am so proud of everything they do to represent the school so positively, helping out across the school, looking after younger students and supporting staff. What a special group of girls you are!

This time of year is always tinged with a bit of sadness, as we say goodbye to our year 13 students and some of our year 11’s. All of the girls worked so hard in the run up to their GCSE and A level examinations, and we wish them huge success in the future.

Finally, I would like to say a big thank you to all families for your help and support over the last year, and for encouraging your daughters to make a positive contribution to our school community. I feel lucky and privileged to work with such a wonderful group of staff, students and families. Have a fantastic summer.

GAME ON, GO LEAD AT On Friday 24th April, nine students from Years 8 and 9 had the exciting opportunity to take part in the Barclays Game On Go Lead event at Spring West Academy. The day was designed to inspire and empower young people through football, focusing on leadership, teamwork and confidence-building activities.

Throughout the event, students engaged in a range of practical sessions and workshops that developed their understanding of how to organise and lead inclusive sporting activities.

SPRING WEST ACADEMY

As part of the programme, the girls gained valuable knowledge and practical skills that will enable them to take on the role of football activators within our school community. This includes planning sessions, encouraging participation, and promoting a positive and supportive environment for others to enjoy sport.

The experience was both enjoyable and educational, giving the students a real sense of responsibility and achievement. We are proud of their enthusiasm and engagement throughout the day, and we look forward to seeing how they apply these newly developed skills to support and inspire others during the summer term.

MOCK RESULTS DAY Year 11 and Year 13 students recently took part in their mock results day, an important milestone in their academic journey. The event was designed to mirror the experience of receiving official examination results, helping students prepare for the emotions, decisions and responsibilities that come with results day.

Students collected their results in a realistic setting, giving them the opportunity to reflect on their current progress and celebrate their achievements so far. The experience also encouraged them to identify areas for improvement and consider the next steps needed to reach their goals ahead of the summer examinations.

Staff were on hand throughout the day to offer guidance, support and advice, ensuring that students left feeling informed and motivated. For many, the experience provided valuable insight into how to manage expectations, respond positively to outcomes and plan effectively for the future.

Mock results day was not only a chance to recognise hard work and dedication, but also an opportunity for students to build confidence and resilience as they continue their studies.

GCSE PE CLIMBING TRIP Our year 9 and 10 GCSE PE students recently embarked on an exhilarating climbing trip, giving them hands-on experience of alternative physical activities and deepening their understanding of training, performance, and outdoor adventure sport. Our girls displayed remarkable determination and resilience – the true spirit of a Brentford Girl shining through in every ascent.

DUKE OF Our year 9 and 10 students showed excellent determination and teamwork during the Duke of Edinburgh's Award Practice Expedition. Throughout the expedition, they demonstrated resilience, leadership, and problem-solving skills while navigating routes and working together outdoors. The experience helped build confidence, independence, and lasting friendships as they prepared for their qualifying expedition.

YEAR 12 TRIP TO HAMPTON COURT Our Year 12 Students had the exciting opportunity to explore a historic site they had previously studied in lessons, bringing their classroom learning vividly to life.

Walking through the castle grounds helped them connect more deeply with the period and setting they had discussed in class.

One of the highlights of the day was the chance for students to step into the shoes of key historical figures, including Henry VIII and Cardinal Wolsey. This interactive approach encouraged them to think critically about the people and events of the Tudor era, deepening their understanding in a fun and engaging way.

The guided tour of the castle offered fascinating insights into its history, while an education session led by an expert provided a valuable opportunity for students to take part in historical debate. They also enjoyed hands-on activities, exploring the castle’s role in Tudor history in a more immersive way.

Student feedback was overwhelmingly positive. Many shared how much they valued the experience, noting that it strengthened their understanding of topics covered in class and made history feel more real and engaging.

YEAR 11 DRAMA TRIP The Year 11 GCSE Drama students recently attended an unforgettable performance of Stranger Things: The First Shadow at the Phoenix Theatre on Tuesday, 21 April. The live performance, which was attended as part of their Component 3 assessment, proved to be an incredible theatrical experience and gave students a fantastic insight into professional theatre production. As the story of Henry Creel and his chilling connection to the Upside Down unfolded, students were captivated by the outstanding acting performances, immersive sound design, dramatic lighting, and spectacular special effects throughout the show. The production was both thrilling and visually stunning, leaving students amazed by the creativity and technical excellence on display.

The visit was hugely enjoyable and highly beneficial for the students, who now have a wealth of material to draw upon in their GCSE Drama exam responses.

SUPER 8 BOROUGH ATHLETIC CHAMPIONS Our Year 8- 11 students achieved outstanding success at the Hounslow Borough Super 8s Athletics Competition held at Osterley, proudly representing the school with determination, teamwork, and excellent sportsmanship throughout the event.

The school entered both a senior team, made up of Year 10 and 11 students alongside several Year 9 pupils, as well as a Year 9 A team and a Year 8 B team.

Throughout the competition, students consistently supported one another while also encouraging competitors from other schools, reflecting the true spirit of the event.

The Year 8 team delivered an impressive performance, finishing 7th out of 12 teams and outperforming several schools’ first teams — a fantastic achievement and a promising sign for next year.

The Year 9 team’s performance was truly exceptional, securing first place with an extraordinary lead of 91 points, a remarkable accomplishment that highlights the students’ hard work, commitment, and talent.

The senior team also achieved an outstanding victory, winning the overall Super 8 Athletics competition and demonstrating superb commitment, resilience, and teamwork throughout the evening.

This brilliant overall success is thoroughly deserved, and we congratulate all students involved for representing the school with such pride and excellence.

YEAR 9 AND 10 BOROUGH ATHLETICS CHAMPIONS! The Year 9 and Year 10 girls delivered a fantastic performance at the Borough Athletics Championships, being crowned Borough Athletics Champions following a series of excellent individual and team performances.

The Year 9 team collected an impressive eight gold and silver medals. Gold medals were won by Lyla (100m and Long Jump), Leila (200m), Amelia (800m) and Alice (1500m), while silver medals came from Roah (Hurdles), Roxanne (300m), Alice (Javelin) and Amelia (High Jump). The team also secured victory in the Year 9 relay.

The Year 10 team added a further seven gold and silver medals. Charlotte claimed gold in the 800m, while Zoe won the Triple Jump and Zia took first place in the High Jump with a clearance of 1.45m.

Silver medals were earned by Roah in the 300m, alongside strong performances across the track and field events.

Our Champions won a combined total of 15 gold and silver medals, demonstrating outstanding commitment, talent and teamwork. Congratulations to all athletes involved on a superb achievement and on becoming Borough Athletics Champions for both Year 9 and Year 10.

FAREWELL AND GOOD Our Year 11 students marked their final day in school before beginning study leave and preparing for their GCSE examinations. It was an emotional day filled with laughter, memories and a few tears as students celebrated the end of their school journey together.

One of the day's traditions saw students signing each other's shirts with messages of friendship and good luck, while a special video created by Ms Hennessey celebrated their time at school and the memories they have shared.

To end the day, students and staff lined the walkways to form a guard of honour, giving Year 11 a heartfelt send-off as they left the school for the final time.

We wish all of our Year 11 students every success in their examinations and look forward to celebrating their achievements on Results Day.

YEAR 13 GOOD LUCK LUNCH Year 13 students recently came together for a special Good Luck Lunch hosted by Head of Sixth Form, Ms Agnihotri. The afternoon was filled with delicious food, laughter, memories and a few emotional moments as students reflected on their time in sixth form ahead of their upcoming exams.

The event was a wonderful opportunity for everyone to celebrate the achievements of the Year 13 cohort and wish them success for the future. We are incredibly proud of all they have accomplished and wish them the very best in their exams and beyond.

STEM INSIGHTS PROGRAMME Our Year 9 students recently took part in an inspiring three-day STEM Insights Programme, where they explored exciting careers in science, technology, engineering and maths.

Delivered in partnership with the Youth Career Collective, the programme combined career exploration, collaborative project work and real-world experiences designed to broaden students' horizons.

A real highlight was a visit to the West Middlesex Ambulatory Diagnostic Centre, where students experienced STEM in action within a working healthcare environment. From seeing cutting-edge technology to learning how professionals solve complex challenges every day, it was an unforgettable opportunity that brought classroom learning to life.

YEAR 11 ROA Our Year 11 students celebrated the end of their time at school with a special Record of Achievement Ceremony, hosted by their Head of Year.

The event included speeches from the Headteacher and form tutors, who reflected on the students' achievements, growth, and memorable journey through secondary school.

Awards recognised a range of successes, from academic achievement and positive contributions to school life, to a selection of light-hearted "silly" awards that brought plenty of laughter. It was a fitting celebration of the Year 11 cohort, and we wish them every success in the future.

YEAR 12 RSN TRIP On Thursday, 18th June, Year 12 Textiles students had the exciting opportunity to visit the Royal School of Needlework degree show at Hampton Court. The work on display was of exceptional quality. As the only institution offering a degree in hand embroidery, many of its graduates go on to work in haute couture ateliers in Paris. The Year 12 students came away thoroughly inspired, buzzing with ideas on how to creatively incorporate these embroidery techniques into their own work.

NAVY LEADERSHIP TRAINING We were delighted to welcome the Royal Navy Youth Engagement Team (YET) to BSfG. The team delivered engaging STEM challenges, team-building activities, and leadership-focused sessions that inspired our young people while developing their problem-solving skills and confidence. Led by serving Royal Navy and Royal Marines personnel, the interactive workshops encouraged teamwork, communication, resilience, and innovation.

Our students thoroughly enjoyed the experience and embraced the challenges, gaining valuable skills and insights along the way.

Thank you to the Royal Navy Youth Engagement Team for an inspiring and memorable visit.

YEAR 12 UCAS TRIP The annual UCAS exhibitions have helped students explore a wide range of academic and career opportunities and discover a future that is right for them, and we were delighted to take our Year 12 students to an in-person event in Birmingham.

Students had the opportunity to speak with employers, universities and apprenticeship providers, attend live application clinics and personal statement workshops, take part in course and careers taster sessions, and gain expert advice on how to research and choose the pathway that is right for them.

This was a free and compulsory trip for all Year 12 students.

GUNNERSBURY PARK COMMUNITY PICNIC BLANKET Year 7 students were given the exciting opportunity to take part in Gunnersbury Park & Museum’s 100th birthday giant picnic celebration.

Over the past several weeks, the local community has been invited to contribute decorated squares to create a huge community picnic blanket.

With more than 400 squares already collected, the next step is sewing them together into one spectacular display — and Brentford School for Girls is proud to be part of this special community project.

YEAR 7 POETRY SLAM The Hounslow Poetry Slam is always a popular and enjoyable event. This year, our students had the opportunity to work with visiting poet Cecilia Knapp, who led an inspiring day of creative writing and performance.

Students demonstrated creativity, teamwork, and confidence throughout the day. The event provides a fantastic opportunity to develop writing and performance skills, while also meeting and working alongside students from other schools across Hounslow.

We are proud of our students for their enthusiasm, creativity, and excellent representation of the school.

YEAR 9 OPERATING THEATRE TRIP Our Year 9 historians had an unforgettable trip to the Old Operating Theatre!

Students took part in a fascinating 90-minute education session in the theatre itself, stepping back in time to explore the realities of Victorian surgery. Afterwards, we enjoyed lunch in a nearby park with stunning views of Tower Bridge, where students reflected on their experiences.

Shakira especially enjoyed the opportunity to step into the past as our brave volunteer patient during a mock leg amputation! Many students commented on how seeing the theatre firsthand brought their classroom learning to life, helping them better understand the history they have been studying.

A fun, insightful, and memorable day that truly brought history off the page and into the real world.

YEAR 12 BIOLOGY TRIP Our Year 12 Biology students enjoyed an inspiring and memorable day at Kew Gardens, developing their ecology fieldwork skills.

Despite the weather—and a dramatic thunderstorm that brought the day to an early end— students made the most of the experience. They practised essential fieldwork techniques, including using quadrats and belt transects, and used specialist equipment to measure soil pH, light intensity, soil moisture and soil hardness. They also learned how to identify a range of plant species, helping to bring their classroom studies to life.

The knowledgeable Kew Gardens staff provided engaging and informative sessions, ensuring that everyone came away having learned something new. The day also included some lighter moments, from spotting a friendly fox to Ms Vaughn enthusiastically introducing students to the fascinating creatures they discovered along the way—although not everyone was convinced they were quite as cute as she claimed!

Despite the challenging weather, the trip was a fantastic success, and many students left feeling inspired to return to Kew Gardens in their own time.

YEAR 6 TASTER SESSIONS We were delighted to welcome our incoming Year 7 students for an exciting Taster Evening. The event gave pupils the opportunity to experience a variety of subjects and meet some of the teachers who will support them when they join our school in September.

Students enjoyed engaging lessons in English/RE, Food Technology, Textiles Design, Art, PE, Maths & Drama. They took part in a range of fun and creative activities, from designing and creating in practical subjects to developing their problem-solving skills and confidence in the classroom.

The enthusiasm and positive attitude shown by all the students was wonderful to see. It was a fantastic opportunity for them to explore new subjects, make new friends and get a taste of secondary school life.

THE HUNGER GAMES THEATRE TRIP Our GCSE Drama students recently enjoyed an exciting trip to see The Hunger Games theatre production, accompanied by Ms Marsh, Head of Drama. The visit provided a fantastic opportunity for students to experience a professional live performance and see first-hand how acting, staging, lighting, sound, and set design work together to bring a story to life.

Watching such an innovative adaptation gave students valuable inspiration for their own practical work and helped deepen their understanding of the theatrical techniques they study in lessons. The trip was both educational and thoroughly enjoyable, with students returning full of ideas and enthusiasm for their future performances. A huge thank you to Ms Marsh for organising such a memorable experience and supporting our students throughout the visit.

YEAR 10 GCSE PE CYCLING TRIP The Year 10 GCSE PE students took part in a cycling course, giving them the opportunity to develop their riding skills while enjoying the outdoors. Throughout the course, students learned essential techniques such as bike handling, cornering, braking, and riding safely on different types of terrain. They also explored the importance of teamwork, communication, and resilience as they tackled a variety of challenges together.

The trip was a fantastic experience for everyone involved, helping students build confidence both on and off the bike. It also highlighted the physical and mental benefits of cycling, encouraging an active and healthy lifestyle. The students represented the school brilliantly, showing determination, enthusiasm, and excellent behaviour throughout the course.

Overall, it was a memorable experience that will support their GCSE PE studies.

YEAR 13 GRADUATION AND PROM On 22nd June, our Year 13 students came together for an unforgettable evening at Galata Pera to celebrate their Prom and Graduation.

It was a fantastic opportunity to reflect on their achievements, celebrate friendships, and mark the end of an incredible journey at Brentford Sixth Form. We are so proud of everything our students have accomplished and can't wait to see what the future holds for each of them.

ARTS FESTIVAL Our annual Arts Festival was a wonderful celebration of the creativity, talent and dedication of our students. The event showcased an inspiring range of artistic achievements, including visual art, music, drama and much more, highlighting the incredible skills and hard work of our young people.

We were delighted to welcome members of our local community, who joined us in celebrating and supporting our students. Their enthusiasm and encouragement helped make the festival a memorable occasion for everyone involved.

The Arts Festival continues to be a highlight of the school calendar, providing students with the opportunity to share their talents, build confidence and celebrate the arts together as a school community.

SPORTS DAY Sports Day 2026 was a fantastic celebration of teamwork, resilience and house spirit.

Despite the summer heatwave, students showed incredible determination and enthusiasm, giving their best in every event while supporting and encouraging one another throughout the day.

The atmosphere was electric, with colourful house banners and decorations showcasing the creativity and pride of each team. The friendly competition highlighted not only sporting talent but also excellent sportsmanship, cooperation and a real sense of community.

SPORTS DAY A huge thank you to our PE Department for organising such a successful event, and special thanks to Ms Ward for her dedication and hard work in making the day such a memorable occasion. We are also grateful to all staff who helped ensure everything ran smoothly.

Sports Day was a wonderful reminder of the values we celebrate at Brentford School for Girls, and we are already looking forward to next year's event.

ACTIVITIES DAY This year, students at Brentford School for Girls enjoyed a fantastic range of educational visits and enrichment activities. Highlights included trips to the Museum of London Docklands, the Bank of England Museum, the British Museum, the Clink Prison Museum, the Paradox Museum and Kew Gardens, giving students valuable opportunities to extend their learning beyond the classroom.

Students also took part in a lively drumming workshop, a rowing session and ended the year with a celebration at Syon Park. These experiences encouraged teamwork, curiosity and confidence while creating lasting memories for everyone involved.

PHOTOGRAPHY TRIP Our Year 9 Photography students recently visited the Henry Moore: Monumental Nature exhibition at Kew Gardens, where they explored the striking relationship between sculpture, landscape and light.

The trip gave students the opportunity to develop their observational and photographic skills, capturing inspiring perspectives of Henry Moore's monumental works set within the beautiful surroundings of the gardens.

TRIP TO VALENCIA "We were hot, we walked a lot, but we had a blast! “ Our Year 9 & 10 Spanish trip to Valencia was packed with unforgettable experiences, from exploring the city's vibrant streets and practising our Spanish to soaking up the culture (and plenty of sunshine!). Opportunities for Primary Schools at Brentford School for Girls Information and Communication Technology (ICT) We are a Digital Schoolhouse and have capacity to invite students in to deliver coding sessions as either a one-off session or a series of sessions.

Peer Reading Sixth Form students come out once a week and read with students in primary schools to encourage reluctant readers to develop their reading skills.

Physical Education (PE) We have good facilities to be used for sporting events such as sports days or tournaments. We can also send our sports captains to support your events if needed.

Design & Technology We can offer a rotation of activities for students to develop design and technology skills. We have previously delivered the following in one morning on a rotation, so all students experience each activity: · Food Technology Session · Graphic Session · Textiles Session

Science Labs

Primary students can experience science experiments.

Our team is keen to give opportunities to primary students to utilise their labs. This can be done in conjunction with science week or at another suitable time that can be arranged.

Enterprise Days

Encouraging enterprise and financial management is something that we can support. The school has specialist business teachers and numerous students taking business courses who can facilitate an enterprise day or sessions for your students.
