Take note: I recently learned that one of the travel trends for 2014 is a vacation that allows you to detox from technology. Shortly after learning this, I put this travel trend to the test and headed to the mountains of Northern New Hampshire, where cell service is limited or in some areas, non-existent.
My partner and I enjoyed a long weekend in the Moose Alley neighborhood, connecting with nature, wild animals, each other, and many mosquitoes. But don’t fret, the mosquitoes are avoidable with proper protection, but we will address that in the packing list that you can find on page 5.
Without question, I can confirm that unplugging for even just a weekend, left me feeling refreshed and rejuvenated.
Nestled in the White Mountains, we spent three days hiking, photographing waterfalls, off-roading in the jeep, ATV riding, moose viewing, eating, shopping and exploring.
Everything closes early in these small towns, so if you go looking for moose at dusk, make sure to eat dinner first or you’ll go hungry until breakfast. Forget your GPS or phone app, as cell towers are hard to come by. Do yourself a favor and grab one of those old-fashioned paper maps called an Atlas - they still have them at truck stops. :)
