Floofy Tips & Tricks

• All minky fabrics like Floofy shed when cut. There are several ways of dealing with this. After cutting, use a small vacuum to pull up all the lint; OR toss your cut piece in the dryer on cool for a few minutes with a wet washcloth. (Be sure to clean your lint tray!)

• Sew with a 90/14 Stretch or ball point needle. This will prevent skipped stitches and not cut the fibers while sewing.

• PIN! PIN! PIN! Use long pins or small clips. This will help prevent slipping.

• Use a stiletto or awl to guide the fabric under the sewing foot and needle. Best when used in binding techniques.

• Use a walking foot on your sewing machine. It’s helpful to use a machine that has a zig zag/serpentine stitch.

• We recommend using 50wt polyester thread, but cotton or cotton blend thread will also work just fine.

• Use a new blade in your rotary cutter.

• Decrease pressure on your presser foot.

• Use a pressing sheet and low heat if you need to iron, low heat if you put it in the dryer. Use cool water to wash, no need to prewash the Floofy.

• If using a cotton fabric with project, prewash it to preshrink.

• Do not use fabric softener when washing finished project.

• Use a ½" seam allowance for sewing Floofy pieces together and to sew on binding.

A. BLEACHED C OTTON Same specifications as 100% natural cotton, but made using only 100% bleached cotton fibers. Recommended for light colored quilts to eliminate the shadowing effects of a darker batting through white fabrics.

B. POLY-DOWN Made with very fine white denier polyester that provides a lovely soft drape and makes this batting exceptional for hand quilting. Poly-down is resin bonded to provide added durability and resist bearding and migration. It is machine washable, non-allergenic, and maintains loft.

C. THERMORE The hollow fibers of this 100% polyester (siliconized) batting act as a great insulator. Its surface is treated with a unique process and is designed for garments or where thin batting is preferred. It will not beard or migrate.

D. WOOL This is a magnificent batting made with the very best superwashed wool. The loft from this natural fiber provides excellent definition for quilting stitches and superb insulation while allowing excess heat to disperse away from the body.

E. COTTON WOOL BLEND Created from 80% fine cotton and 20% superwashed wool. The addition of the wool adds loft and lends a nice drape and softness to the quilt without compromising the stability of the batting. Perfect for wall-hangings or bed quilts.

F. COTTON BLEND One of the most popular battings. It offers more loft and less weight than traditional cotton. This blend is made with 80% natural cotton and 20% fine polyester. It is needle punched and has a light resin bonding to provide exceptional strength and durability. It is ideal for hand or machine quilting.

G. BLEACHED COTTON BLEND This batting is recommended for white or very light colored quilts. Same specifications as 100% natural cotton, but made using 80% bleached cotton fibers and 20% polyester. It is lightly needle punched and resin bonded to provide exceptional strength and durability.

H. BLACK Produced by blending 80% dyed cotton and 20% polyester, it provides quilters with a batting that will not generate light fiber lint on the quilt top during the quilting process. It is highly recommended for quilts created in black, navy, or other dark colors.

I. COTTON WITH SCRIM This batting is perfect for quilters seeking extra strength in cotton batting. Soft and gentle, it’s made with natural cotton that has a thin stabilizer (scrim) needle punched into the cotton. This scrim provides superior strength over cotton alone, and prevents the batting from stretching.

J. FUSIBLE COTTON BLEND This batting contains a water-soluble fusing resin that is applied to both sides. Fusible batting eliminates the need for the time- consuming steps of pinning or spray basting. Adhere your quilt top and back to the batting in one quick pressing.

K. COTTON Made with 100% natural cotton and needle punched for additional strength. Ideal for quilters who want a soft batting with a traditional look.
