Yet it is in these moments of adversity that we often have the greatest opportunity to shape our future if we choose to respond with resilience and confidence. Our best days are ahead if we have the courage to revisit, refine, and reset our goals, especially when things just have not worked out the way we planned.
HOW TO OVERCOME SETBACKS The scripture encourages us to forget what lies behind and press forward towards our goals. When things don't unfold as planned, it's crucial to acknowledge the setbacks but to not dwell on them. Instead, take it as an opportunity to recalibrate your vision, learn from the experience, and march ahead with renewed determination. Every setback is a stepping stone toward our future if we allow it to be. “I’m not saying that I have this all together, that I have it made. But I am well on my way, reaching out for Christ, who has so wondrously reached out for me. Friends, don’t get me wrong: By no means do I count myself an expert in all of this, but I’ve got my eye on the goal, where God is beckoning us onward—to Jesus. I’m off and running, and I’m not turning back.”

GOOD Moving forward when it feels impossible by Javier Mendoza, Founder of Connect Global Grief is such a strange feeling. It’s not a singular event but a process. A process that seems to have no discernible stages, flow, or pattern. Good grief is what allows us to appreciate the progress and development that we are achieving despite a great loss we have experienced. It allows us to truly feel and realize the loss not as the definition of our life but as a reality of the fact that we are alive. Maybe you have experienced the loss of a loved one or are grieving what never was. If so, I share with you a few truths I have learned and am still learning about grief.
Grief is Not Linear Grief is a new start and the door to feeling. We can’t win against grief, we can only experience it to be fully alive. There are no two stages that are the same between my grief and yours. We have to experience and feel our own grief in our own way. Anger is an armor against feeling what has happened. Denial is a way in which to separate truth from our perceived reality. Bargaining may leave us feeling empty or maybe mad at God or ourselves for our loss. Depression can come in like a flood when you least expect; it is like a smothering blanket that masquerades as a comforter. We can only truly move through these stages of grief if we choose to accept the loss and feel the pain.

You can't talk your way out of grief, and yet it wont be ignored Grief can make the simplest of tasks seem like mountains to scale, and it can topple your greatest moment of joy to dust in just seconds. Grief is not a place you can leave or a waypoint you can rush past on your way to feeling better. It is not something to be ashamed of if you grieve differently than someone else, and it’s not a badge of honor either.
Grief is a doorway to another version of yourself Grief doesn’t care what you have to do today, and it can’t be lessened by distractions. You may be able to hide or mask it for a while or in front of certain people, but the fact remains that grief will not be swept under the rug. It is a not so subtle knock on the doorway to who you will become in the wake of such a terrible loss. A widow, an orphan, a person deeply known only by the person who was lost and who now feels unknown by those left behind. This new chapter of your life may feel as though it is being rewritten and edited over time without any consultation. You had no choice in becoming this new version of yourself, yet you must go headlong into new relationships, possibly a new home, or even a new family altogether. Embracing change is what allows for something new to come along unencumbered: healing. One thing I remain hopeful in is that grief is merely a placeholder for more blessing, for continued recovery, and for future fulfillment.
