The “Do Not’s” For Fire Safety While Staying In Campus Accommodations

• Do Not use the elevator as a means of egress during a building evacuation, take the stairs.

• Do Not stand next to a building you have just evacuated from. The first responders will be trying to gain entry and you could impede their progress and endanger yourself if you are too close to the building.

• Do Not overload the wall outlets in your room; use a multiple outlet power cord with built-in fuse.

• Do Not disregard the alarm notification of a building’s fire alarm system. When in doubt you must get out.

• Do Not hang anything from a fire sprinkler head, EVER.

• Do Not prop open a fire door. Some fire doors in a building are tied into the building’s fire alarm system and will close upon activation of the building’s fire alarm system automatically.

• Do Not burn candles, smoking materials or similar products in your room.
