As many of you will a'ware, on May 1st 2007, 32 arrests were made in relation to the SHAG campaign . These arrests were made following a two year operation, involving 700 police officers across several countries, and with FBI involvement. What a coup for the vivisection industry! Or not. The SHAG campaign has continued as strongly as ever, as you can see throughout this newsletter. All these raids have served to do is to unite the global movement like never before.
In the period before and after the raids, Huntingdon and the police have been trying to reassure companies that the SHAG been crushed. At one recent protest, an disgruntled manager was heard to mutter, "The police said this would all be finished ".

On the day of the raids Huntingdon's share price did increase, but only by three dollars. lt would appear that investors aren't quite as stupid as HLS would like to think. As this newsletter clearly demonstrates, the campaign against Huntingdon is far from over. In fact, we see this as a crucial period in the fight against the hell hole. The recent raids happened for a reason: WE ARE WINNING! In order to send Huntingdon's share price back down where it belongs, we have targeted key shareholders. Within a week of us announcing the new share holder targets, the German bank Dresdner dumped nearly 600,000 HLS shares and a short time later, LaGrange Capital Administration followed suit. Intact, until the day before this newsletter went to print, over the page are the details of companies who had invested in the animal cruelty at HLS.

First of all thank you so much to all of you who have written , visited, donated and kept on campaigning. You make all the difference to prisoners' lives. This situation is a bit of a test for the whole movement. Some actions by the police are obviously designed to disrupt and spread 'fear'. Well we are not afraid so neither should any one else be. So far many of you have done the animals proud and kept their hope alive. The way I see it any attack on us is actually an attack on the animals themselves. Why on earth the police, Government, and HLS should hate these animals so much is beyond me and I won't waste any energy trying to fathom it out. The police etc. are sadly mistaken if they think it is only __;;;;;~;;;;;~:;;;;.J those of us in prison who want an end to animal cruelty and for HLS to close. I know I've said it before but they can't touch me and they cant hurt me personally no matter what they do because my heart has already been broken millions of times by every single act of cruelty, murder, torture, terrorism and violence against animals. Every break has made me many times stronger. Be thankful that you are in a position to do so much more than I can. Be thankful that you can speak out for and defend those beautiful animals who have ended up in the hands of the cowards , thugs and bullies who work at HLS . Hi Everyone, I'm back in the gym here at Bronzefield and aiming for new fitness goals. I miss Gregg all day everyday but am strong in spirit as always. lt is really good to hear that it is business as usual as far as SHAC is concerned . Whatever happens, we must not yield to governments, police forces and global companies who are conspiring against this movement at the highest level. We must fight them every step of the way, for what they seek to prevent is dissent in any shape or form. The movement they seek to reduce us to, is a neutralised and ineffective one and their agenda is clear: arrest and imprison a handful of people in the UK and the USA and all this will stop. There are only a few of us in jail and many hundreds of you still out there and free to carry on the campaign against Huntingdon Life Sciences. You have a legal , democratic right to protest and that right has been hand-earned throughout history. You have every right to contact companies and inform them about the disgusting , shocking cruelty and incompetence exposed at HLS six times now. You have every right to demonstrate at companies and highlight their involvement and investments in the brutal, coldblooded mass murder carried out daily behind the razor wire at HLS. So do not even let them tell you different. HLS can and will be closed down. lt is legal in a UK laboratory to burn, electrocute, starve, shoot and poison animals. Your MP & the RSPCA have no right of access to any UK lab and section 24 of the Animal Scientific Procedures Act 1986 states that if anyone publicises what they have seen inside any UK lab they can be imprisoned for up to two years . Stop Huntingdon Animal Cruelty was formed in 1999 to close Huntingdon Life Sciences with the focus on Huntingdon 's finances. Because of the successes SHAC have had against Huntingdon 's financial backers, HLS at present do not have a banker or an insurance company. The UK government with taxpayers' money acts as both. Huntingdon are $91 million in debt and many global companies have dropped HLS including HSBC (the world's second largest bank) , Lloyds TSB, Barclays, Royal Bank of Scotland/Natwest, UBS (the world 's largest private bank), Marsh (the world 's largest insurance broker) and Citigroup (the world's largest financial institution) to name just a few of the many hundreds of companies who have severed links with Huntingdon. STOP HUNTINGDON ANIMAL CRUELTY Prior to the UK SHAG raids, law enforcement in the USA decided to try and clamp down on SHAG USA. Six defendants were rounded up and eventually, along with SHAG USA as an organisation , were found guilty of multiple federal felonies for their alleged role in simply campaigning to close down Huntingdon Life Sciences. The recent UK raids are clearly part of the general plan to smash this (legal) campaign , an observation supported by the fact that the FBI were involved in the UK raids. Hmm ... maybe its just me, but have the UK police been watch ing things over the pond? Far from destroying the campaign , everything seems to have carried on , same as it ever was. But don 't just take our word for it, the United Press International ran an article just days after the UK raids, entitled, "Analysis : Animal Activists Persist in US." The article read:

The briefing was for US companies with overseas operations, and it highlighted the animal rights movement as a major threat in Western Europe and the US . Speaking of industry conferences, this spring saw the Biotechnology Industry Organisation conference . Previously this conference has been hosted in Philadelphia and Chicago, but after being hounded m prevtous years they decided to hold it in Boston where... they were
Taken from the Guardian newspaper: "it all started when I was an undergraduate doing a medical degree. We were introduced to it gently ; we started by watching videos of experiments on anaesthetised rabbits and recording the results. Later we carried out experiments on frogs' legs and then hearts. We took it seriously, and 15 years later I still remember the physiolog ical principles we learned in those experiments. So it all seemed worthwhile . When I started my research degree, I had to go on a course about how to look after animals under anaesthesia and how to kill them humanely. Animal experiments are highly regulated in Britain ; you need a licence from the Home Office and have to take exams and practical tests to prove your competence. The course was fri ghten ing. We watched a video on how to kill animals - masked people in lab coats smacking animals over the side of a table or breaking their necks - and then we calmly discussed ethics, as if it all made sense. The trouble was, it didn 't - but I must have missed the bit where we were encou raged to question that. When I started in the research lab, it was my turn to do the deed. We were closely supervised and there wasn't any pressu re to kill animals unless we were confident we could do it properly. But it didn't seem rig ht to do the experiments without doing the killing as well. I could feel the guinea pig 's heart racing when I picked him up; he wasn't the only one who was nervous. And then I did it. I hit his head over the side of a table to stun him, then cut his throat so he'd bleed to death. The sound of skull hitting table will never leave me ; 10 years on , I still flinch if I hear a similar noise. In some laboratories, the psycholog ical damage that th is technique inflicts on staff is recogn ised , and animals are injected with a fatal dose of anaesthetic instead. But this is far more distressing to the animal and can damage the tissue on which you want to experiment. we hit them over the head and live with the sound of cracking sku lls. lt soon got easier. What had shocked me at fi rst was suddenly very normal and mundane. Cracking guinea pigs over the back of the head, then slitting their throats really didn't affect me any more. And it didn 't seem to affect anyone else either. Colleag ues told me it was a perfectly natural coping strategy, that you just couldn 't do it unless you 'd rationalised it in your head. Friends assumed I must be doing some desperately worthy medical research in order to justify such behaviour, and that I was about to discover the cure for HIV or heart disease. The truth is, research can be a very hit and miss affair, and sometimes it is only hind sight that allows us to judge what were the useful discoveries.

Once the ball was rolling , protests contmued at the homes and offices of Merck, Novartis, Transmolecular (who were unfortunate enough to be the local HLS customer) , and at various BIO 2007 related events. No rest for the wicked 'ey?
Meanwhile, the build ing I was working in was under siege by anti-vivisectionists. A prominent animal rights campaigner was in jail and on hunger strike. His supporters had circulated a list of academics they said they would kill in revenge if the hunger striker died. We were surrounded by steel fences and stern-faced policemen on horses. The departmental car had a mirror on a pole , so you could check underneath it for bombs. But sometimes having an enemy to unite against makes it easier not to question what you 're doing. And once yo u're that involved, it 's difficult to get out. When I had done my three-year research degree, I left. I had become someone who thought it was normal to kill animals on a daily basis and not be affected by it, which was somehow not really the person I wanted to be. it was a year after I'd finished before I picked up a guinea pig again. lt was one of those really hairy ones whose front end looks the same as its tail end. I didn 't tell its owner what I used to do. I had an irrational fear that I wou ld suddenly flip and smack the poor animal over the head. I didn 't, but I had to hide the fact that my hands were shaking when I put him down again. "

Around 120 activists met in the heart of the City of London to send a loud and clear signal to the top investors and financial institutions that Huntingdon Life Sciences' shares are a bad investment morally and financially. A loud and vibrant march with megaphones, drums wh istles then made its way th rough the heart of the square mile, directly past some of the most influential institutions and businesses in th e City. After a noisy and passionate rally, the protest split into three groups. Group one stayed in the City and held protests at key HLS and NYS E Euronext investors and shareholders. Group two went to Gl axo and Abbott Labs , while the third group made their way north to hold a protest at the gates of HLS's main site near Alconbury.
