i sat down with Wendell and two other gentlemen and we had an informative and enlightening conversation. I wanted this issue to spread Inclusion and understanding. Those in the LGBTQ+ community are humans. Individuals, mothers, fathers, educated, professional should I go on? No, you get it, I am sure.

My feature focus for this month's issue is Wendel King II. Wendell is Very eloquent, articulate, and has purpose behind his words. The panel was comprised of 3 age groups with someone differing views on topics that we discussed. Wendell king is an Amazing Communications Professional. He has led complex and global projects across a range of clients including The Heller Marketing Firm, Telsource Communications and an extensive number of well-known colleges and universities. His current roles include 2020 Exec. Officer of the International Forensics Association,2019/2020 National Vice President of the National Parliamentary Debate Asociation, Podcast Co-Host of "Truth to Power" and National President of Gamma Mu Phi Fraternity Incorporated. Wendell also served as Assistant Coach of the Texas Southern University Debate Team for eleven years.

As a political analyst I study the development of political systems, research various political subjects and collect and analyze data. Ultimately, I am able to predict political, social and economic trends, evaluate cultures, values and political ideologies and present unbiased reports.

Surviving To Be Me (The Struggle) by: LaRonda Humphrey

Confidence is…. Surviving To Be Me (The Struggle) Every story has a beginning, a middle and an ending, and no one likes to start a book or a movie in the middle, right? Well, that’s where I find myself right nowsomewhere in the middle of this movie named “My Life”.

Our “beginning” is what sets the tone for who and what we are to become, and if you’ve read my previous articles or you know a little about me, you know my beginning was full of pain, turmoil and dysfunction. I’ve struggled with my ‘Being’ for most of my life.

Struggling to understand the why’s and the why-nots. Trying to recant suppressed memories. Struggling to understand the feelings I had.

Being myself meant being true to my core identity rather than my perception of others’ expectations. It meant removing the mask that I thought would be more acceptable and more attractive to otherspleasing to the sensibilities of others. You see, I’ve always lived my life based on how others thought I should think, feel and act- and I still didn’t live up to their expectations! I wanted people to think I had my shit together in life and in love so I looked and played the part.

As a young adult I realized my attraction to both men and women. My attraction to men was always stronger than to women, and I charged my experiences to being young and experimenting, just a phase I was going through. Being a pastor’s granddaughter and having a family full of hypocritical church folks didn’t make it any better! I had a choice to make-accept who I truly was, a sexual being who loved love and longed to be able to love who I wanted to love, or be who and what I was expected to be.

I chose the latter, to keep wearing that mask of deception. But who was I deceiving? Who was I really trying to convince? The people or myself? Everyone, INCLUDING myself!

Instead of trying to be something or someone that I wasn’t, I now embrace the woman I am today. The hardest thing for me to learn was to accept myself and not worry about what others expected of me. I was always the one trying to help people fix their issue. The reality was I’m the one I needed to fix. I needed to deal with my own issues before I could truly help others. A hypocrite is one thing I’m NOT!!

I needed to walk it like I talked it. So I did! I do!

And I always will!. I’m no longer stuck in that place of fear of rejection, doubt and shame that kept me from realizing that everything I’ve been through has brought me to this very place. This place of peace. This place of acceptance of self. This place of SURVIVING TO BE ME.

She Didn’t Quit Tho Summer Body Loading…

E. LeVerne Sampson Someone once told me Summer Bodies are made in the winter. Believing that was all true, I used to work extremely hard (half the time) in the Fall, WINTER, and Spring in hopes I would have that desired body by the summer. There were moments during the process I was very confident that by the next summertime I would have the perfect “summer body”. But each summer I felt like a failure because it wasn't what I thought the world wanted to see. So, I convinced myself to live my best unhealthy life in the summer and start all over in the Fall. My thought process was all wrong. I was working to show my progress on this journey mostly for others and not solely for myself.

I allowed the desire for wanting a summer body as the world saw fit to make me lose focus of what I desperately desired. My true desire is to be able to live as long as the Lord will allow staying mentally strong as well as physically fit. To achieve this, I needed to make the necessary changes to my mindset. I could no longer base my success of this journey on how people viewed me. In fact, people should not be the driving force that drives me to be successful at anything in life.

In the book, “Switch on your brain” Dr. Caroline writes “What your mind creates only your mind can take away”. So in recent years, I redefined my “Summer Body”, it is no longer just the physical appearance. “Summer Body” takes on the new meaning of having confidence in myself to accept all of me no matter what season of life I may be in. I am now able to live my life unapologetically and not employ shame or covering up my flaws because I am afraid of what the world thinks of me. The body I have now is my “Summer Body”. I am the sun to my shine and the heat to my hot degree.
