Land Acknowledgement
We acknowledge that we are in the territory of the Anishinaabe peoples of northwestern Ontario. We work and live on the lands of Fort William First Nation, a signatory to the Robinson-Superior Treaty of 1850. We honour the enduring connection to this land and commit to working together for a sustainable future.
We also recognize that our seven regional campuses cross over multiple traditional and Treaty Territories, the historical presence of Metis People, and that our students come to study from all over Turtle Island.
As part of the colonial history of Canada, nonIndigenous peoples have derived benefits from what the Royal Commission on Truth and Reconciliation defines as the “cultural genocide” of Indigenous peoples in this country. We embrace our role and responsibilities in a national reconciliation process and acknowledge that we are accountable for this tragic history. At Confederation College, we are working to address injustices against Indigenous peoples and to honour our relationships with communities.

Regional Economic Development through Immigration (REDI) Pilot and Rural Community Immigration Pilot (RCIP)
Both initiatives aim to strengthen local economies through immigration and help address critical labour shortages in the region.
The REDI Pilot grants the CEDC up to 200 nominations under the Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program (OINP) Employer Job Offer Stream, supporting employers in attracting and retaining skilled workers.
The RCIP Pilot will further expand opportunities for rural employers to connect with new and existing talent to fill essential roles.
By fostering economic immigration, these programs reinforce Thunder Bay’s position as a welcoming, opportunity-rich community where newcomers can live, work, and thrive.

"Hello! My name is Elizabeth Bellin, but you can call me Beth! I am an International Student Advisor at Confederation College.
I was born in Thunder Bay, though I’ve also lived in several cities across North America. Today, I’m happy to be back in Thunder Bay, where I live with my husband and son and proudly call this community home.
I’ve been with Confederation College for several years, supporting international students as they adjust to college life and settle into the community. It’s incredibly rewarding to see students thrive here and make Thunder Bay their own.

In 2024, 241 students were hired to work in 78 different positions

English requirements vary by program and we accept several academic tests. Some countries are exempt from a test requirement, however an English course with grade is still required. Please visit www. confederationcollege.ca/ department/internationaleducation/programsadmissions/requirements/ english-proficiency for specifics.
In 2024, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has changed several immigration rules and policies, including the limiting the programs in which international students would be eligible to apply for a postgraduate work permit upon graduation. To review what programs are currently eligible to apply for a PGWP upon completion, confederationcollege.ca/ pgwp-programs
3. Wait lists
A program becomes waitlisted when the number of offers has been sent out for the allotted seat available – this varies by program. Applications are still accepted, but a letter of offer is not guaranteed. There is no set timeline to be chosen off the waitlist, as it depends on whether applicants accept their offer or withdraw.
For more details, visit: www.confederationcollege.ca/department/
How do I know what programs are offered in what intake?
You can review what programs are currently open and accepting applications international.ocas.ca/ explore-programs/CONF If the program you want is not showing up, that means it is not available in the chosen term. Not every program runs every intake.
Do I need a Provincial Attestation Letter (PAL)?
Yes, all students require a PAL when they are applying for a study permit. The PAL will be requested on your behalf once the first payment is made, according to the fee structure on your offer. It will be uploaded directly to your OCAS profile.
The program I want is not listed in the choices in OCAS. Why not?
Some programs are not open to international students due to various reasons, including being oversubscribed, international applicants not being able to work in the field upon graduation due to polices around certifications, study permit limitations, or PGWP eligibility. If there is a program that is not listed due to PGWP eligibility but you wish to study it regardless, please contact us directly.
I was waitlisted for my chosen program/intake. Will I automatically get admission to the next available intake?
No, we do not automatically push offers for another intake as we do not want to assume your academic plan. Students have three program choices on one application and if you have not used up all three options, you can add another intake choice to express your interest.

After your tuition fee payment is received and processed, the College will request a PAL on your behalf. Your PAL will be issued to your application portal under supporting documents within five days of the receipt being posted. You will receive an email informing you that your PAL is ready for download. Please make sure that your email address in the application portal is correct and valid.
Note: PALs will only be issued to students whose deposit payment is received on time, and as specified in their LOA.
