Wellness Center on schedule

Vote was not unanimous

Presentation to General Council set for July 22

By the CUJ

MISSION – Alcohol can now be purchased at Arrowhead Travel Plaza following a split decision June 12 by the Board of Trustees (BOT) for the Confederated Tribes of the Umatilla Indian Reservation (CTUIR). The BOT vote was 5-3 with Vice-Chair Aaron Ashley, Treasurer Sandra Sampson, Secretary Sally Kosey, and members Lisa Ganuelas and Toby Patrick voting in favor of the resolution (23-056) approving alcohol sales at Arrowhead. The two votes against were from BOT members Corinne Sams and Boots Pond. General Council Chair Lindsey Watchman was absent. BOT Chair Kathryn Brigham only votes in case of a tie. That same day the BOT approved amendments - with the same five voting in favor - to the 2006 Liquor Tax Code, which includes a 5 percent tax on gross sales of liquor. The amendments make that Code applicable to all Wildhorse businesses authorized to sell liquor. The amendments did not change a provision Conintued on Page 14
