CRITFC lands grant for victim advocate on river By Casey Brown of the CUJ

PORTLAND - The Columbia River Inter-Tribal Fish Enforcement (CRITFE) has received an award of $840,000 to fund a Victim Assistance Advocate/Coordinator position over three years and provide direct assistance to victims of crimes thanks to firsttime tribal access to a federal grant. Applications for the full-time position are being accepted until May 3 by the Columbia River Inter-Tribal Fish Commission (CRITFC), which oversees the enforcement arm of the organization, for the full-time Victim advocate on Page 20A

BAAD incident marred 32nd annual By the CUJ

MISSION – Incidents during the 16 to 18-year-old boys’ bracket, including an arrest by Tribal Police, tarnished the 32nd Basketball Against Alcohol and Drugs

(BAAD) tournament, which drew 58 teams and 550 players from across the Northwest. In addition to two people being ejected and banned from the tournament, one other person was asked to leave the gym

for arguing with referees during the opening weekend of games, March 23 and 24, for the older players. Staff and volunteers put in nine days to help with 101 games played at the Nixyaawii Community Gym and the

tournament ended with a Head Start lower-basket exhibition game on March 29 and 6 to 8-year-old co-ed games March 30 and 31. BAAD Tournament on Page 22A
