M ISSION - V o t in g m e mbers of th e C onfederated Tribes of the U m a t i l l a Indian Reservation (CTUIR) on Oct. 4 recalled David Close, the embattled Secretary of the Board of Trustees (BOT). Members of the General Council voted 312 yesto257 no to recallCl ose,who was elected last November and took office in December of 2016. The General Council is the CTUIR's voting membership, age 18 and older. Of the 2,233 CTUIR eligible voters, 569 cast votes in the Oct. 4 recall election. The recall was effective as soon as the votes were counted. The BOT, which is the policy-making arm of Tribal g will designate a current member to carry out the duties and responsibilities of the office until a special election can be scheduled to fill the vacancy of Board Secretary. In an email and phone conversation, he said, "Given I was up against the largest families enrolled here, and a g public relations campaign, also against me, the disparity between yes and no were few. Thank you to all of my supporters who voted 'no' and stood up for our tribes' integrity and accountability. I will continue to work for my people."
